My Transition....with not one day's rest....! 1970-01-01 00:59:59 ..."what's a Diva to do?", one might ask oneself, when you're faced with the task of having to dismantle everything you've sucessfully built over a long stretch of years, only to now have to turn your back and walk away from it all!Well, in many ways, I have been preparing for this moment for a long, long time now. I'm always writing out business plans about one business idea or another. I have notebooks full of this brilliant crap! The beautiful thing is, now when I look back in some of those notebooks, I'm finding that many of those mad scientist-worthy, well outlined plans actually have some meat to them. I'm so glad that any damn business idea, or thought for a product or a design for something that ever came to me on the spur of the moment, or during one of my billion rides on the train, found me with a notebook on hand to jot it all down. Yep, that was me you saw on the subway-- Crazy Chick, scribbling away frantically in a spiral notebook, a pen stuck in my hair....
I've HAD It....!! 1970-01-01 00:59:59 "It ain't easy being the best" -- Fitness DivaI'm going into 2007 on a mission! I'm DONE working for a company that uses me for my talent and doesn't give a damn about me, the person OR the employee. Who else can relate? Who else out there feels pissed on by the company they work for? I'm willing to bet damn near everyone who takes the time to read this knows that sick, trapped feeling. (Unless you're your own boss, and if you're pissing on yourself...you got some problems! lol) Well, they can't piss on me anymore...at least not for long, baby! I will no longer allow it! Enjoy the last few drops, b*tches...I'm bustin' outta this joint!I've been in fitness for 10 years now, and when I step up into a room to teach, I'm a fierce, ruling DIVA, a Diva in the BEST sense of the word. I rise to the occasion, and then some. I don't just put down choreography and moves...I put my soul and my spirit out there on the floor, and everyone who comes into one of my rooms feels it.

....'Does this Double Quarter Pounder with cheese make me look fat?' 'How about the super size fries and the sundae?' Uhhh....do I really have to answer that? How about picking up a new habit or two BEFORE the ball drops and the confetti flies?Try this: Just make a promise to yourself to hop up on that treadmill tomorrow! Or the elliptical. Go buy yourself a Wii system and start smacking some imaginary tennis balls. Or maybe just skip that fatty lunch you usually have, and take a nice, long walk on your break, picking up a couple apples or a banana somewhere along your stroll. Top that off with a pint of milk or soy milk, with maybe some oat bran pretzels for the munchies, and I swear...you just might feel full. The thing is, you don't have to wait for the New Year to begin your resolution to knock off a few. Truth is, the sooner you start, the easier it will be to adhere to your bold, new plan. Instead of using the year's end holidays as an excuse

I am losing my mind!! I am s... 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Where's the Booty?I am losing my mind!! I am so knee deep in work and tasks for my websites, not to mention the fact that I still have a JOB, that I barely have time to breathe! Forget about a social life! That went down the tubes the minute I started this whole process of leaving my job and becoming independent. Yet, I know it will all be worth it in the long run! It had better be! I haven't had a date in forever!! Well, not a REAL date. A couple nice booty calls, yeah. But a girl can't live by booty calls alone! I haven't been in a relationship in a while, but you know what? I don't WANT to be in a relationship. Ha! That's a first! I remember when the one thing I wanted was to hear my loved one's key turning in the door every night. To have someone sooo deeply in love with me, and ALL UP in my life. I was also consumed with the thought of having BABIES! It's so funny how I no longer think that way. So many other things are more important to me at this stage of

weight loss and fitness sourceHow's It Going So Far?...January 19, 2007So, here we are, nearly 3 weeks in with the new plan, the new idea, our newfound resolve....and if you really did dive in, you know that it's not as simple as some make it seem. This is WORK!! However, you gotta look at the bigger picture; your long term goal, and all the goodies you're gonna get at the end of the rainbow. A better body, more energy, feeling better about yourself, or for some, a kick ass shopping spree with all the trimmings......nothing else really compares to the first 3 things, because once you have those firmly in hand, everything else you want becomes easier to get! Trust me when I tell you, IT'S ALL WORTH IT! So keep it up! :) And if you haven't gotten the ball rolling yet, it's still not too late. Make the decision to do at least ONE thing differently today, such as changing what you snack on. Choose fruit, grilled veggies, or an energy bar {check the
Smart Sweets for the Sweetie on V Day.... 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Ahhh, Valentines Day....chocolates, truffles, candy hearts, wine, champagne, baskets of naughty but nice goodies....MMMmmmm....Well, you deserve it! You've been absolutely darling, haven't you? If someone wants to show you a little 'candy love', let 'em! No, don't make someone go out and buy you a low fat, sugarless box of candy or some other stripped down semblance of sweetness! Puh-leeze~! Don't take all the fun out of delicious, sinful indulgence! This holiday only lasts one day, so savor it, baby! Enjoy!Just know when to pull back.... ;) Valentine's day candy tip: If you do happen to receive something sweet and caloricious on V Day, don't just hide the box or basket away from yourself; indulge. Just have a few,(like one handful) and the next day, take the rest to work to share with your co-workers. Yes, that's cheating a bit, but who cares? Everyone will love you, and you won't stray so far off your good eating plan that it turns into an all out binge. Trust me on Read more:Smart

Media is Picking on Tyra?? 1970-01-01 00:59:59 I would say so.... As we all know, the tabloids can be a bit mean, and when they find something about a person to pick apart and use to tear them to shreds, they do it gleefully. Such maliciousness really should be outlawed. What I like about the whole situation is how Ms. Banks stood up to it all, and showed herself to be the real, emotion on her sleeve wearing, fearless icon that we all love. Kudos to you, Tyra, for facing this media maelstrom head on! It's not easy being a Diva, and I think I might have mentioned that once or twice before...You get equal measures of love and hate at the same time. What this whole situation points out is that there really IS immense pressure these days to be bone thin, and to hold up to a sick, eating disorder inducing standard of beauty. Here on my blog, I give you all tips, websites, diet sources and all the resources I can get my hands on to promote a healthy version of fitness. But in the wrong hands, all of it can really go too far. I mys Read more:Picking

Talk About Rapid Weight Loss.... 1970-01-01 00:59:59 .....I'm losing lbs by the minute! NO, it's not some cool new diet craze I just heard about, it's called the "I need a root canal and can't chew solid food til I get one CRISIS!!".Yep. I woke up the other night with my entire right jawbone screaming bloody murder. This recurring toothache I've been getting on and off the past few months has reared its' ugly head and now demands my FULL ATTENTION, no BS. I, as a result of this skull wrenching pain, cannot chew anything solid, because if my top teeth even touch the bottoms on the right side, I get these great lightning bolts of pure agony that last until the Motrin kicks in. Damn! So...all I can eat now is soup, or anything mashed or pureed. I have never been so interested in how many varieties of soup exist in all my life. I am soooo over chicken noodle, my childhood favorite, after having had it many times in the past few days. Tomato rice sounds cool, if I can ever find it. Noodle bowls work pretty well, I just gotta remem Read more:Rapid

Ready, Set, GO! 2007-03-26 17:07:00 Spring has sprung, my dears. You know what that means, don't you? Yes. I know you do. Time to get that butt in gear! As the weather fluctuates, we are starting to have more warm days than cold ones. Time to get ready to show those flat stomachs and tight, toned curves. Say what?! You're not yet tight and toned? Well, I must ask, WHY NOT? What have you been doing these past months??? Well...okay. I know all about the winter weight gain, and the preference of curling and cuddling up in front of the TV (or for me, the laptop) on the coldest days. And winter comfort food is the BOMB! But now....it's time to say, "bye bye, baby"! To the extra weight AND those lazy winter habits. Get your butt up and let's get it shaking!Ok...Dr Fitness Diva is gonna give a small, easy to follow, "jump start" prescription today. You follow this, and within a couple weeks you're gonna start seeing your stomach flatten, your arms tone up, and that butt start to lift. You ready? Okay! Here
And The Beach Body Returns.... 2007-04-18 04:30:00 I haven't been really kicking my own ass lately, but I did cut back on my sugar intake some. I have, however, been kicking some gym member butt all during the past month or so. "Did you take a 'Kill 'em' workshop or something?!" one of my Tuesday morning class members asked me today. I did whup up on them especially hard this past session...lol. No, no workshops, my dear. I'm just really inspired lately. Getting back into my martial arts, brainstorming, and designing programs that make it pump and that are Bad Ass! I guess that's melting the pounds offa me too, cause the past few days I keep catching myself in the mirror and realizing...the bikini body is BACK, baby! It's not all the way "ripped" right now, but it's looking DAYUM good! And I ain't even tryin' yet. Hee hee.... Yeah! Right now one thing I'm really enjoying as a quick, on the run snack are the Wendy's salads. The Chicken Mandarin is my fave lately. The Chicken Diet 2007-05-15 04:00:00 Well....that's what it seems like I'm on...lolI have been eating quite a bit of the old bird these days. Just a binge run, I guess.I tend to get these stretches where I can eat the same type of food every day for damn near two weeks or more. The only thing that breaks the streak is to get a bad or not so tasty plate of that particular food somewhere down the line. Then, my taste buds change their mind.I have been making this killer spanish flavor, curry enhanced stir chicken that goes well with rice, noodles, and that I can dump on top of a salad and enjoy. It is to die for.The great thing about it is, I like it so much, I've pretty much just been eating it straight....no carbs to interrupt the flavor. From time to time, I do this quasi-Atkins type of eating pattern where I just eat meat, fruit and veggies. After a week of that, the musculature that is ever present on me really starts to stand out. When I lift up my shirt, I can actually see a couple cans of the six pack coming Read more:Chicken
Kung Fu Diva 2007-05-21 21:23:00 Well....I'm on a new mission, and I'm excited! After having studied martial arts (Tae Kwon Do, Jiujitsu, Boxing, Kickboxing, etc...and having left that all alone for a few years--except for teaching the boxing and kickboxing and all the variations thereof), I'm itching to get back into the dojo! However, I'm not so much wanting to fight this time....I am looking for the more spiritual side of the arts, and also to enjoy and embody the beauty and fluidity of the katas. My body is itching to sweat, train, focus, and contort itself into those beautiful shapes, stances and poses that you see in martial arts forms. Since I already finished my affair with TKD, ending in my blackbelt so many years ago, I now want to explore something different. At this point, I know that Shaolin Kung Fu is it. That is going to be my next martial arts disclipline. The forms I've seen from Kung Fu (Shaolin style) are the most gorgeous, fluid, acrobatic, amazing ones I've seen, and I've seen a boatload
Congratulations, Venus!! 2007-07-07 10:56:00 MY girl! The Williams sisters are SO inspiring, and in my opinion, prove that will, self determination and unstoppable confidence are key in achieving your goals. For the past couple years, people have been saying they're washed up, Serena's out of shape, their dominant run is over, etc...la la la. Come again??After recovering from injuries, this year Serena's been decimating opponents left and right, and if not for her sudden calf injury in the quarterfinals, we'd have had a Williams vs Williams final. I'da bet the house on it! ;)After it was all said and done, Venus
won her fourth Wimbledon championship!I was hoping for Serena to complete her vicious and stellar comeback after winning the Australian and jumping back up in rank, but seeing Venus make it all the way back is just as good! Well done, ladies! Keep up the inspiring work!I am now on my way out the door to hit the tennis courts...:). Yeah, I've been working on my game this summer, just like the last. Ughhhh....the lazy Diva....! 2007-08-14 12:59:00 I know I have been neglecting my blog here!! I have been more absorbed in enjoying my summer! Forgive this oversight, okay? Okay! Thanks!I have been busy working on my tennis game, and for the most part, blading my self ragged every day. I am soooo addicted to rollerblading right now! Uhhhhh! Me and the blades up at 7:00 am to hit the streets and the park to avoid all the street and pedestrian traffic. Me skating the loop around my favorite park for like 15 to 20 miles (2x around is a mile....I've done as much as 46 loops, my record thus far). You can't tell me dip! I am one bad azz bee-ach on my blades!!! Music strapped into my ears; my own mixes of jazz, Italian music that I bought in Florence a few years ago, old house mixes and such....my fierce gear with matching shorts, t strap tops and/or capris, blades BLAZIN'...! Yes! I am the Queen of Blades when I'm on my wheels! And the results are in; my core and lower body strength is fierce right now! Everything is soooo t
Go Diva, It's your birthday, Go Diva.....! 2007-09-01 11:07:00 Ahhhhhh. Yessss! I woke up today feeling FABULOUS!!! Got myself a good night's sleep after watching the US Open night matches, and since I took off work today, I got to sleep without worrying about being up on time! Yum!I am having a "do whatever the hell I feel like" day, and haven't yet decided how the day will unfold. I'm starting it off with a Godiva Mocha flavored coffee (my newest little sin...yummy!) and relaxing here watching the morning matches of the US Open. You know I love tennis! The only thing stopping me from getting a US Open ticket is that the crowds there have multiplied fourfold since the last time I went to Flushing Meadows, and I HATE crowds. I got to see the very first Williams vs Williams final a few years ago, and also attended matches the following couple years. Now, tennis as a whole has become SO popular that the people quotient there has gotten a bit out of hand. The Williams' are back, and Sharapova, Roddick, Nadal, the Serbs (love them!, especia
Keepin' It Young, Baby....Soulja Boy Style! 2007-09-22 19:01:00 Today I went and visited my nieces and nephews, ages 6, 8 and 11. It was the little one's birthday, and she wanted me to bring her a Barbie (of all things...lol). I instead got her a "That's So Raven" hairstylin' doll, complete with accessories. Can I first interject that the doll doesn't look like Raven Symone, but instead is a dead ringer for Beyonce? I swear. Check the photos on the package AND the doll. There must have been a doll head mold mixup back at the factory!Anyway, she loved it, along with the Dora the Explorer set I got her. So, we spent an hour or so creating little scenarios for the doll, along with one of her Barbie's, to experience, like getting their hair done, dressing up, going to the club, going to the doctor, going shopping....you know, GIRLY stuff. I must admit, I was a bit TOO into it! lolThen I noticed my other niece and nephew online playing around on Myspace and YouTube, and all of a sudden when this song came on, they jumped up and started doing Read more:Keepin

Fitness in the Fall - My Kick Ass Routine 2007-09-17 11:46:00 Where the hell did the summer go? It seems like I just went to sleep one night, and when I woke up the next morning, it was fall. Bam! Just like that! No gradual cooling off of temperatures these days. Welcome to the new globally warmed world!Anyhow, my tennis permit is gonna run out soon, so, if I'm going to still play, I'll have to go renegade, climbing over fences, and going to areas way out of my range. That is not very likely to happen, for real. But rollerblading in the fall is still the sh*t. After blading for about 5 to 10 mins in even the coldest temperatures, your body really warms up. Blading when it's colder is also more enjoyable because there tend to be less people outside and in the parks, the wimps! I like cold weather. In this city, most people stay off the streets when it's cold. Better for me! I no longer have to skate around you! ;)Besides my blading, I'm adding some outside jumprope to my regimen. I bought myself a mini boom box to play my favorite ae Read more:Routine
My 9/11 Class Remembered.... 2007-09-11 14:59:00 Today is not only the sixth year anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy, but also the anniversary of the exact day of the week that this madness happened.6 years ago today, I got up and went to teach my 9:30am Cardio Kickbox and 10:30 Total Body Conditioning classes as I usually did every Tuesday morning. Like most, I saw this as just another day to get through, another task to accomplish, another day of work to complete, and as always, was looking forward to the weekend. I, like we all, had NO idea of the calamity that was to follow. While getting ready for work, I heard something about a plane crashing into a WTC tower on the radio. I turned on my television, and saw the afermath; a fiery, gaping hole in the tower. I remember saying to myself "They're gonna have a hard time fixing that". I then went out the door and on to work. The gym I worked in that day had 4 floors, and our aerobics class was on the top one, pretty much isolated from the rest of the gym members on the lower 3 floors Read more:Remembered
Rock it Like Federer.... 2007-09-06 23:21:00 ....That's my new catch phrase. You know, as in "Bend it like Beckham"? After watching Roger Federer wipe pretty much everyone else in sight off the court with such precision, mastery, and at times, effortlessness, I have now dubbed the word 'Federer' an adjective (and a verb!). Who better to deserve this honor? Here is the complete definition:fed*er*er 1. strong, dominant, masterfulfed*er*ate 1. to demolish, conquer or annihilate fed*er*ize 1. to endow a person, place or thing with superior quality or abilityfed*er*es*sence 1. complete dominance and mastery of a situation 2. flawless precisionJust as with Spanish and Italian verbs, you drop the er (r/re) suffix to conjugate.Ok. I think that sums it up! Let's use each of them in a sentence!Dude, I'm about to go completely Federer on this project pitch. We are going to GET that client! My abs are killing me today! I totally federated my entire body during that last workout! My apartment layout sucks! I'm going to
Staying On a Roll.....and Bounce 2007-09-30 19:51:00 Is it really September 30th already?? DAMN! Where the hell does the time go? I guess losing track of time is a sign of you've been pretty busy, which I have been.I have unfinished websites coming out of my azz, but the good news is that two will be ready for launch tomorrow. Don't piss this Diva off...she comes out WORKING!Ok. Y'all know I'm crazy, right? Yeah. I am. When it comes to fitness, I'm like a junkie in a crack store. I saw an Urban Rebounder in my studio at Wall St the other day after teaching class, and started jumping on it. Mind you, this is not the first time I've seen a rebounder. I actually took the Urban Rebounding workshop and got certified to teach it umpteen years ago, but never bothered to get myself a rebounding class. Anywhoo.....guess who went right home and ordered an Urban Rebounder? Yep. You got it! Now this mini trampoline is sitting in the middle of my living room, and I've had to figure out quick where to store it without having to clos Read more:Bounce
The Web Diva Gets Jacked!!! 2007-09-27 16:41:00 Yep. Just like getting knocked over the head on a dark street and having your wallet taken while you lay bleeding on the cold, hard pavement. As I mentioned in earlier posts, my main mission this year and beyond is to establish myself as a web entrepreneur and independent businesswoman. I have been out here building websites, buying domain names to build on, and learning to work the web from every angle possible. So far, it's been a great education! Now, I own about 30 domain names, on everything from business to fitness to doggywear, and my registrar, GoDaddy was holding the brunt of them. Since I registered with them, I decided to take part in their cash parking, which is where you can make $$$ off your parked domains (domains that you haven't put a site on yet). So, being the quick learner that I am, I figured out that the way to make $$$ on cash parking is to market the domains just like a website. In the past few months, me and cash parking became one happy couple, me loggin
Teaching With No Voice... 2007-10-12 11:58:00 I think it was pretty damned amazing of me to knock out two classes this morning with absolutely NO voice whatsoever, since I now have full blown LARYNGITIS.Imagine yourself trying to teach a step class without verbal cuing. Yep, that was me today, the Marcel Marceau of aerobics! But I made it easy (for myself) and turned it into a step circuit where the class rotated through different exercise stations, performing each for a minute and a half. 4 step stations, 4 weight stations and 4 jump rope stations. Truth is, they got a better workout than usual, cause step, weight and jumprope together in one class usually kicks some series butt! I could tell by the collective exclamations of relief when I finally signalled "class over". ;)Cuing the toning class afterwards was easier, I just basically did a Simon Says bit: "Watch me, and do everything that I do". I was pretty happy with being able to get thru teaching both classes minus my voice...it takes REAL talent to be able to do that Read more:Voice
Dealing With Difficult People - The Series 2007-10-11 02:17:00 I am having a "really can't wait until I'm working totally and entirely for myself" moment. For real.My life is basically broken up into a series of weeks, like most people, I guess. There are good weeks, and there are bad weeks. Funny thing is, you can be having an awesome week, and one or two bad incidents back to back can wreck it all. Then you have to regroup and start all over again. One thing I need to admit up front: I'm not that tolerant and understanding of this planet's "less centered and less enlightened" people. I was raised to be courteous, considerate and polite, and when I encounter people that are NONE of those things, and have a personal interaction with them in their negative cycle, it causes me problems. My own little cross to bear, I think. That's the main thing I am meant to work through in my time on this earth. I truly believe that. Because I'm soooo sensitive. More than most people would believe. I think I'm overly sensitive like that for a reaso

Wedding on the Horizon..... 2007-10-05 20:46:00 Ughhh....as fun as they are, I am not looking forward to it! No, it's not MY wedding, but I still feel the pressure to show up looking exceptionally good, since everyone knows I'm a fitness queen. It's a pressure I put on myself, because I'm such an anal perfectionist. Yes, I am! And also, it's FAMILY (ones I haven't seen in years), so they all wonder what the hell is happening to me up in old NYC. (the wedding is in North Carolina, home of fried everything, thick gravy, fat and REAL butter). I just always feel like I gotta represent. I have to show them how great it is to be fit, down there in that land of XXXX sizes and all you can eat buffets. Most of my family in the south is overweight, and loving it! I need for them to see that it's worth it, all the sweat, toil, muscle ache and sacrifice I go thru to look and be trim and fabulous! Yep! That's why I live!Anyhow, I am looking forward to seeing the fam, dancing, laughing and drinking to exhaustion, and trying to avo
I'm Back! 2007-10-17 14:05:00 Got my voice back, although it's still a bit raspy. One thing I am going to do after this scare is to go back to using a mic when I teach my classes. I stopped using my mic about 2 years ago or so, because it was just a bit cumbersome to hook and unhook the system every time I taught. I taught with a mic for a good six years, and when the power adaptor broke, I just stopped. That's when I discovered the joy of yelling and screaming! ;)Well, that little party is over now...I'd rather be able to use my voice for many years to come, and to do that, I'm gonna have to save the screaming for other occasions! ;)The cool thing is I get to go back to being the social butterfly that I am...I missed out on a cool party with this laryngitis! Gotta make up for lost time...
Day of Silence 2007-10-13 09:05:00 Having taken the day off to rest my voice, of course I'm out here on the net early, surfing, searching, reading blogs I like, and always finding new ones. It's staggering to fathom the sheer numbers of people out here writing these days! Seems like everyone and their dog has a blog. I'm not kidding, there are DOGS out here with blogs!Great thing is that more people are exercising that writing muscle. Only good can come from that. Well....hopefully! ;)I also sit here watching the Sundance, IFC, History and Science channels. In between those I click on Current TV to see what I can learn, and also to see what amateur filmmakers and journalists are putting out. I love Current, and one day you'll see one of MY pods on there. Just as soon as I learn how to work a movie camera (and buy one...dont worry, I've been saving for it. Already know the one I want). Making films is something else I'm trying to learn about and prepare for in the midst of everything else I do. The learn
The Politics of Politeness 2007-10-23 11:38:00 Back from the wedding weekend, and I must say, I didn't go too crazy on the southern food. I love North Carolina, though, and the way they try to make you feel comfortable and welcome everywhere you go. It's something that you don't experience as much in New York. Every store I went into, the cashiers and floor people spoke to me, saying "how are you doin' today?" and "how are you", and sometimes just "Hi-iii" in those lovely, cushiony southern accents they have. And these are folks that have never seen me before in their life. I love the way people are so friendly and open in the south. Southern hospitality is alive and well, I'm telling you!Flash forward to the streets of NYC, and I'm surrounded by a brashness and rudeness from strangers that I can't even begin to explain. People refusing to move over as they walk straight at you on the sidewalk, this never ending game of chicken that New Yorkers like to play, better known as "who's gonna move first?". I've driven my
I've Been Soooo Bad......Naughty, Naughty! 2007-10-28 13:56:00 It ain't easy bein' cheesy.....My social calendar has been jumping a bit lately, and this Diva has been hitting some bars, lounges, parties and the like. I totally subscribe to the "work hard, play harder" ethic...simply because I know how to come back and perform any damage control necessary after the dust settles. I know that I still should rein it in, though. Just a bit! What I'm talking about is the massive amount of alcohol calories I've consumed in the past week or so. We're not even mentioning food. I was at an all you can drink Mexican brunch yesterday, and mimosas were my poison. I can try to pretend that since there was orange juice in them (with good old vitamin C), I wasn't being TOO bad a fitness diva.
