2008-07-28 15:33:00
I don't know how I missed this, but I do need to give a big thanks to Sheila from Black Tennis Pros for posting about the Big Mac 40th anniversary party on her blog. 'Else, this might have escaped me completely! Thanks again, Sheila! The Big Mac (two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun!) turned the big 4-0 on July 24th, mere days ago. In all that

Still At It...
2008-07-27 23:39:00
Columns widened! Damn! That was the easiest thing I've done so far, and I didn't even consult a tutorial to do it. I just played with it. COOL!I'm having too much fun tweaking this thing. I have been on it for hours now. I'm still am not happy yet, though! I think that once I put a newer, better header on, that will do it, and then also fill up some of the empty space down the right side.

The Fitness Diva is Under Renovation!!
2008-07-27 21:08:00
NO....you didn't put in the wrong URL. It's still the Fitness Diva Confessional here. I'm just in the midst of learning how to hack my old template and change things up a bit. I was gonna go nuts if I had to look at the old for one more day!Yes, I know it looks strange right now, and I redesigned the whole thing on another blog and transferred it over here only to see things are out of place an

You Are Who You Hang With
2008-07-23 15:05:00
Birds of a feather flock together. How many times have you heard that? Well, for the most part, it's true, isn't it? Take a look at the people you spend most of your free time with. With a few exceptions, they tend to be pretty much like you in many ways. Your likes, dislikes, habits, favorite activities, etc., pretty much seem to line all up. Of course, personal style, personalities and pers

A Fresh New Start
2008-07-21 09:44:00
Yep. Monday means starting off the week with a healthy new set of meals for the next few days. One way to make sure you eat healthy and stick to it is to do some planning. Yesterday, I hit up the old Whole Foods Market and got my supplies. Fresh strawberries (I still have to find that little vacuum seal machine that Model Reicha had mentioned), and also got my flavored seltzer waters, some produ

Well, I had my sushi and sake night, and it was scandalous!!!Fun, fun, FUN! I won't go into details.... ;)Crazier still, was the fact that I got up to to a bit of a distance blade the following morning. My favorite day of the week is finally here, and I'm ready to let my hair all the way down! I've been a reeeaal good girl with my power walks, some roller blading and also consuming NO processed sugar all week (with the exception of that pack of Twizzlers yesterday - my one guilty little treat) and pretty much sticking to my healthier eating plan.I look back and see no errors. SO. Tonight I'm h

Why I Love Hills
2008-08-12 12:32:00
To sum it up quickly: they're better than a stairmaster!I started a power walking group in my neighborhood for people who don't necessarily have the time to go to the gym, or who just aren't into the gym and traditional workouts. Our first few times out have been really good. Late in the evening, with our little wrist weights strapped on, we pick a different route every night and just tear a pat

2008 Olympics Opening Ceremony
2008-08-09 05:59:00
I hope that you all got to watch China present the opening ceremonies of the 2008 Beijing Olympics last night or this morning. I have to say, without a doubt, China ROCKED IT!!! I have watched all the Olympics since I was old enough to know what they were, and China's incredibly spectacular display of pyrotechnics, performance, and purely awe inspiring displays was off the charts. Never has an

My Tasty Little Secret
2008-08-03 21:54:00
So, in my own efforts to stay fit and keep myself in shape, I find that food is my biggest nemesis, and fighting off cravings for the bad stuff can be a full time job. I LOVE to eat! Hell, who doesn't? I've been able to pack it away since way back. My brother and I used to race to clean our plates as fast as we could so we could be the first one to get second helpings, or the last piece of foo

How Novak Djokovic Let Bitterness Defeat Him
2008-09-06 23:22:00
I love Novak Djokovic. Don't get me wrong. LOVE him. Love his personality, his style, his tennis game. From the moment he began to gain prominence on the tennis circuit, I've been on his team. He's likable as hell. Well...at least, he used to be.Flash forward to the 2008 season, and I can't help but to notice that that effervescent, engaging, entertaining, completely appreciative personality

Night Blading...
2008-09-06 13:35:00
So, some of my roller blade buddies and I were out in Central Park the other night, and I just have to say, Central Park is BANGIN'!! It is just one of the most amazing places in the world to me. Once saddled with a bad reputation and thought of as a place where one had to worry about muggings, assaults and other crimes, the past 20+ years have seen our park go through some great changes. For on

Chocolate Is Good for the Soul
2008-09-04 22:25:00
....and good for your body, too. In moderation, of course! The cacao bean, first cultivated and used by the Olmec people, who lived in the tropical lowlands of south-central Mexico, and some time after by the Mayans and Aztecs, has been used in dozens of ways, including medicinal.Chocolate , as we know it today, took a few centuries to evolve into the sweet, delicious, to die for treat that we all

Is Compassion Learned or Innate?
2008-09-02 20:42:00
So, while training my early AM client this morning, we got into a discussion about compassion and considerateness. She was recalling an incident that happened to her one day on the train. She got dizzy, and began teetering on her feet. Another passenger saw her swaying and that her eyes were glazing over, and came to her aid. Seeing that it was mere seconds before the girl would just totally col

Beijing Olympics Hangover...And Ice Skating
2008-08-25 09:17:00
Ugh... I'm kind of sad today. No more Olympic games playing in the background while I'm on the old laptop here, giving me moments to jump up and shout, scream or cheer...I'm a sports fanatic, in some ways, so for me, two weeks of Olympics running damn near 24-7 on TV is like swimming around in a huge vat of Haagens Dazs (Dulce de Leche flavor) ice cream with a big spoon!I watched the closing cere

USA Men's and Women's Relay Team BOTH Drop Baton
2008-08-21 20:20:00
In an unprecedented occurrence, both the men's and women's track and field Olympic relay teams drop the baton during the anchor leg of the race. First, in the men's 4 x 100 meter relay, Tyson Gay takes off in the last leg with his hand outstretched to receive the baton. Darvis Patton, running furiously in the 3rd leg, misses his hand and drops it! Just like that, the US, who was among the favori

Agility and Quickness Drills With the Ladder
2008-08-21 14:03:00
If you want to develop fast foot speed, the ability to cut and run on a dime and improve your agility, then ladder drills are the thing. I've been doing these with some of my clients lately, and it's not only challenging, but also a different and fun way to get in some cardio on top of all of the aforementioned benefits. I also use these in my sports conditioning classes. The only difference is

Fall Fitness
2008-09-21 21:36:00
As the temperatures drop a bit, to me this is a great time for getting out and doing more. In the summer, hot days make you want to just sit in the house or lounge around anywhere that there's some AC. When it's 90 degrees and counting, who really wants to be outside running and playing? Well, I know a few people that stay active no matter what the weather, but exercise nuts don't count! ;) How

Lose Weight and Do Some Good for the World

Ok. That's what I call it, but the actual name of it is Lose for Good, a weight loss and fund raising effort by Weight Watchers to help kill two birds with one stone: reduce the obesity rate and combat world hunger. How's THAT for some real problem solving ingenuity? I think it ROCKS!The premise is, join Weight Watchers FREE online (or at one of the walk in centers), and for every pound of weigh
