Can You Say "Videophilia"? 2008-02-08 12:39:00 videophilia -The new human tendency to focus on sedentary activities involving electronic mediaThere have been several studies recently, focusing on how much more time we're spending interacting with electronic media such as TV and the internet compared with how much time we spend doing outdoor activities, and the results are pretty grim.It seems that as a society we are spending less and less time in the great outdoors, doing things like biking, camping, fishing, hiking, etc than we are watching TV, playing video games and hanging out online. This is undoubtedly a direct contributor to the obesity epidemic that's plaguing the USA right now. Are you surprised? I'm not. Heck, we're being videophiles right now as we speak, as you sit here reading this, not to mention the time I spent writ
Parade of Champions.. 2008-02-05 23:13:00 I missed the Giants Superbowl Parade
this morning because I had to work! I'm so pissed! I'da been there with blue, white and red paint on, like, "What?!". Seriously! But I guess somebody had to keep the rest of the city running! We're all still basking in the glow of this great win, and talking trash by the minute. You know how we New Yorkers do! ;) Hey, bragging rights are sweet. We're gonna ride 'em til the wheels fall off! ;)Meanwhile, back down on earth, we are experiencing some freakishly warm weather for January! I tried to wear a down jacket today, and ended up sweating my butt off! To tell the truth, this really is getting scary. I have lived in New York my whole life and have never seen weather like this. January is usually bitingly cold. You shouldn't be able to walk a Read more:Champions
Did I Tell Ya, or Did I TELL YA!!! 2008-02-03 21:49:00 GO GIANTS!!!The New York Giants are the NEW Superbowl CHAMPS, baby!!And I never had a doubt! After 4 quarters of what was the hardest damn game of the century, my Boys in Blue TOOK the title. I'm so sore from screaming my head off!GO GIANTS!!!You've done us New Yorkers PROUD!!
Super Bowl, Baby! 2008-01-30 21:14:00 So, my Giants have made it to the big dance, and now my most urgent task at hand this very moment is figuring out where my friends and I are gonna watch the game. I must admit, I've fallen off a bit with football, but from way back I have always been a huge fan. I just have so much going on now that I don't have time to watch all the games anymore. I used to love the Philadelphia Eagles, the Pittsburgh Steelers, my poor NY Jets, and of course, my boys in blue, the Giants. I used to hate the 49ers and the Cowboys, because they were our main rivals. This was back in Joe Montana/Jerry Rice days. Lawrence Taylor, Deion Sanders, Randall Cunningham and Warren Moon. They were also my faves. I have screamed my throat out at many a playoff game, rooting for my guys to get in. Now, I get to do Read more:Super

Winter X Dreams... 2008-01-27 16:10:00 It's another lazy Sunday for me, and after watching my boy Novak Djokovic win his first Australian Open against Muhammad Ali's twin, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, I'm now snuggled up on my couch watching the Winter X Games. As I watch the competitors fly trough the air on skis, snowmobiles and snowboards at back breaking speeds, I feel like I missed my calling. lol My parents should have gotten me some ski lessons, dammit! I can so see myself out on the track hanging tough with the best skiers in the world, beating each of them one by one.....Ok...enough with my fantasies. Back to reality! Haaaaaaaa. Had you there for a minute! I do think the Winter X competitors are awesome with their aerial spins, big air jumps, twists, flips and 1080's, though. That shizzle is bad ass!As I sit here, I fig Read more:Dreams
"That Snowboarding Afterglow" 2008-01-22 14:28:00 Now that I'm back on snowless land, I find myself missing the slopes. That snowboard weekend I just had was awesome, and I am now thinking and plotting on how I can be so much better the next time I go out. I know not to try to rush it, but I'm so used to being good at things, and I guess it's just natural for me to almost overthink things in my attempt to achieve that. So, I'm happy to say, I get my second crack at shredding some mountains in just a couple weeks. Yep, already booked the next trip. So, I've been out here checking out various snowboarding sites and blogs, checking on how to learn and master certain techniques. Here's a great tutorial on doing those turns:-a-Carve-on-a-SnowboardNow, let's just hope all that theory turns into reality the next time I'm out there! ;)Snowbo Read more:Snowboarding
Heel Side, Toe Side, Falling Leaf..... 2008-01-20 22:34:00 Omg...I just came back from my first snowboard weekend at Okemo resort in Vermont, and can I just tell ya...Every muscle I have is killing me!Um.... Learning to snowboard is....HARD. lol! But, by the second day of lessons, I began to get it! If nothing else, I learned how to slow down and emergency STOP. A most important element of any downhill type sport!!! As for pics, I was too busy busting my ass to video and take pics. Sorry. That'll have to go down on the next trip. That's right, the NEXT trip. Cause I'm DEFINITELY doing this AGAIN! It was crazy! I can't wait to go again!I got a long, hot bath waiting for me. This post will have to be short. My arm doesn't want to lift my hand to type anymore!
Stealin' My Thunder.... 2008-01-17 20:10:00 So, I step up into one of my company clubs to teach my usual Wednesday classes, and I notice that there is now a bright orange flyer posted on the glass doors and windows around the studio. "Getting Ready for Skiing and Snowboarding Training", it read. I'm like, WTH?Hmmmmm.....has some trainer in my co been reading my blog?? Coincidence? Or am I just being paranoid? I can't help but to think about the post I did: "Getting Ready for the Slopes Workout", posted about a week ago. My company, while having a full time schedule of fitness classes with everything from Yoga to Tae Kwon Do, and also an army of personal trainers some 5,000 + strong, is always encouraging us (trainers and instructors) to create "small group training" classes. I wonder if one of my co workers stumbled across my Read more:Thunder
The Ten Fattest 2008-01-15 15:02:00 I love this time of the year, because that's when all the list wizards come out with their best and worst lists of everything you can imagine. This list of the 10 fattest states in America caught my eye. Not too many surprises here to me, but props to Pennsylvania for dropping off the list. I distinctly remember when they had Philadelphia listed as the fattest city in the country. Been working out, Philly? ;)The Ten Fattest

Pole Dancing the New Fitness Craze - In China 2008-03-12 23:05:00 Well, is nothing sacred? Everywhere in the world now, you can find striptease dance classes, erotic dance workshops, and that old strip club staple, pole dancing. "Pole dancing. It's not just for strippers anymore!"In the past couple years, the stripper pole has become such a pop culture item, that people have begun having them installed in their houses. You no longer have to go to the Jiggly Room to find a woman swinging and undulating on a pole. Just go home. The Chinese, who tend to follow popular American trends closely, are now mad about pole dancing. Pole dancing classes have popped up in all the major cities like Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong, and membership is exploding like crazy.Luo Lau, a Chinese dancer who caught the fever after seeing her fist pole dance in Paris, came Read more:Dancing

The King is Toppled From His Throne... 2008-03-23 23:38:00 Well, 3 months into the new season, and it's official. The dominant reign of Roger Federer in men's tennis is over. Or at least at a pause. It's shocking how quickly this has happened. Just last year, R Fed was his usual excellent self, assassinating opponents left and right, instilling fear in all from the locker room on. At one time he really was unbeatable. Now, the list of guys achieving that on the circuit is growing. It's actually becoming its own new club. He's now being beaten by not only the top seeds, but surprisingly this weekend he also got wiped out by 98th ranked America Mardy Fish (in straight sets!!!). I'm sure we all fell off our collective chairs the moment THAT match ended! What the hell is happening here?Whatever it is, I hope he shakes it off soon, and gets back Read more:Throne

Mariah Does the Damn Thing! 2008-04-04 00:03:00 Say what you want about her, but Mariah
Carey is still at the top of the music game, and I must admit, I'm lovin' it! I've always been a big Mariah fan, and through all the ups and downs, I've been sitting here with my "Go, Mariah!" sign, big, bold and bright. With the launch of her latest CD, Carey just scored her 18th #1 single with the hit "Touch My Body", with which she has now surpassed Elvis Presley as the 2nd artist with the most number one hit records of all time. The only other artist still in the top spot is The Beatles, who have an impressive 20 #1 singles. I'm thinking that Mariah is going to be on the very top of the pile by the end of the year. It's just a matter of time.So to all the haters out there, busy trying to say she's crazy, and talking crap about her impressively Read more:Thing

Sereenaaaaaa!!!!!!! 2008-04-05 14:21:00 OMG. She just killed me here. That Serena!! Having made it to the 2008 Sony Ericsson Open in Indian Wells, Miami, Serena Williams today faced Jelena Jankovic to battle it out for the title. They split the first two sets, and thus went into a deciding third. That's when all hell broke loose! Serena crushed Jankovic in the third, and had her down 5 games to 0, and it was now her serve, the match on her racquet. Then the MELTDOWN began. Serena started making some of the craziest errors you've ever seen!! Moon balls into the stands, crazy misses of what should have been an easy return, and all over erratic play like you won't believe. Jankovic, having gotten a second wind, capitalized on it, breaking Serena twice. Before you knew it, it was 5 games to 3, Serena. Serena just let that l
Say Hello to Miss England Bikini, 2008 2008-04-05 14:00:00 Um...not bad, but not all that great either. I'm so not impressed. Don't know what the Miss EnglandBikini
contest entails, but I'm thinking somebody knew a judge or two!No, no sour grapes here. Anyone doing what it takes to keep that body fit gets my vote. It's just that I see better bodies than that every day. I work at the gym, remember? I also live in New York, and I must say, you see some of the most incredibly bodied females here! The ones here that work out and take care of themselves win hands down, 24-7! Mucho competition out this way, Yo! I'm even not lying! So, my standards tend to be pretty high when looking at bods.Well, maybe she won for that winning smile! ;) A beautiful face she has, no doubt. Bad Boy Canseco is At it Again 2008-04-05 13:09:00 Not quite satisfied with exposing Mark McGwire and alluding that McGwire and Sammy Sosa's famous homerun duel was a completely steroid fueled endeavor in his first tell all book "Juiced: Wild Times, Rampant 'Roids, Smash Hits, and How Baseball Got Big", Jose Canseco is back yet again to spill a few more beans. In his no holds barred, unapologetic, tell all new book "Vindicated: Big Names, Big Liars, and The Battle to Save Baseball", Jose now shines the light of guilt on ex Yankee player, Alex Rodriguez, who is also rumored to be having an affair with Canseco's latest wife. He also pulls player Magglio Ordonez into the mix.Any that read the first book remember that Canseco claims that he introduced Mark McGwire to steroids in 1988 and that he often injected McGwire while they were teammates. Americans Have Way too Much Time On Their Hands... 2008-04-11 11:35:00 And too much disposable income also, apparently. Either that, or we have let ourselves become soooo bored that we invent and create silly stuff just for the hell of it.Look, I love dogs too, but since when do they need YOGA? Let your dog run around in the yard, chase a few birds and squirrels, and call it a day. That's what a dog needs.I think these folks are totally whacked. lol. Can somebody please ask one of the dogs what HE thinks? They definitely do not look thrilled! What do you guys think about "doga"?. Legit mind/body therapy for dogs or complete BS? Prime Time Love! 2008-04-15 22:12:00 I am a BIG Deion Sanders fan. Have always loved and admired his talent, his style, and his larger than life personality. Like Bo Jackson, Deion played for the NFL and major league baseball. Of the 5 NFL teams he played for, he won his Superbowl rings with the Cowboys and the 49ers. Becoming an NFL commentator as his career was tapering off was a natural for Deion with his megawatt charisma and charm. Appearing on the Sunday night highlights show NFL GameDay and NFL Total Access, he's easily the most enjoyable sports personality on these shows. Does anybody remember his "Sanders Clause" bit he'd do at the end of the year? Damn funny! So now Deion and his wife Pilar have thrown their hats into the reality show pool, which these days seems to be endless. I just have to say, his wife is HELL Read more:Prime Time
Stop Smoking Now ..... A Little Incentive 2008-04-17 19:56:00 I was sitting and watching TV after a sumptuous little meal, and then this commercial came on, causing me to almost lose my lunch. You don't have to tell me to quit smoking. It's something I did quite some time ago. It wasn't easy, and it took me a few times to do it, but one really severe lung infection was finally enough to scare me out of my love for beadies and cigarillos (those little brown cigarettes). Warning....this video is just a bit gross! But if it helps you quit, then I'm all for it! :) Read more:Smoking

St. Pierre
and Matt Serra, we've all been waiting with bated breath to see what the outcome would be. Well, this fight did NOT disappoint! I swear, it takes a lot to make me buy PPV these days, but I could not miss my man, that's right, MY MAN GSP, take back his title, which he did in true champion form. He completely DOMINATED Matt Serra, totally taking Serra off his game from the jump by completely flipping the script on him! GSP is known as an all around MMA fighter; awesome stand up, amazing takedowns, great jiujitsu and submissions, and let's not forget, he's as strong as a damn bull. My Whole Foods Addiction - Full Blown!!! 2008-04-20 12:54:00 Oh. Me oh my. I thought I had it licked, or at least in control. Thursday past, I discovered the WholeFoods
Market on Houston St. and Ave A (?) in The Village. I was down there looking for a dread stylist I found on the net, since I'm rocking dreads now. Anyways, as I was walking up Houston, trying to find the address of this dread diva, there before my eyes it rose up from the concrete...WHOLE. FOODS. MARKET!!!!O.M.G.!!! Ok, you all know I'm a fiend for that place! Here I was on a whole other mission, and out of nowhere I'm greeted by this lovely surprise! :DSo, I went in and completely luxuriated in my WF fixation, still tickled to death by the spontaneity of it all. Locked Up Abroad 2008-04-22 13:28:00 This show is my latest obsession. I am riveted to these stories, and you won't believe how my heart races when these poor, unfortunate fools get stopped by the customs agents at some airport in Thailand, Costa Rica, or Hong Kong carrying drugs. I'm like, WTF?I don't care how desperate and penniless I am in some foreign country. I'd sell a kidney before hopping on a plane as a drug mule. The consequences are far too great.By the way, jail in other countries SUCKS!!! You think prison is bad here? At least they feed you, and you get a bed. On this program I have seen prisons where you sleep on dirt floors packed in with 12 other people in a tiny cell. In some they don't have plumbing or toilets. You go in a bucket that you have to share with all your cell mates (some of whom are cockr Read more:Locked
It's In the Bag! 2008-04-25 11:54:00 Wordless Friday! My little sweetie pie! Get outta there!
Sugar, Sugar... 2008-04-25 11:35:00 I have been cutting my sugar and carbs so that my ab muscle definition can be seen more clearly when I start wearing my midriff shirts in the warm weather. I don't know if this works for you, but cutting sugar and carbs really curbs my appetite. It just balances out my insulin levels to the point where I don't eat needlessly. A few days of no sugar, save for a handful of grapes, strawberries or a banana, and little to no carbs, and I can go without eating again after a meal for hours with not one hunger pang. Cute, amazing little trick that I pull out of my bag every so often!I up my protein (grilled chicken or fish), consume a ton of veggies, and leave the starchy stuff like rice, potatoes and pasta alone, and within a week, "voila!".
