The Heart of A Lover, The Soul of A Champion.
2008-07-22 14:54:46
He never won any medals or ribbons. (Though he could have). He only won my heart. He came to us, 4 weeks old. From a family of 10. Eight brothers and sisters. Mama refused to care for them. Daddy was helpless. That was Max. He stayed with me for 17 years. (Longer than my first husband.) He was with me through the loss of a child, the end of a marriage, the death of my Granny, my Mom and my Dad

Might As Well Be Walkin On The Sun
2008-07-20 08:09:14
I was going to give you all a beautiful post today about life....and death. And then I thought about taxes. And unemployment. And moving. Again. (Almost the perfect country song)  So, instead, I'll just give you this picture. Its what's on my mind.

Mock Me Gently
2008-07-18 15:26:54
O! beware, my lord, of jealousy; It is the green-eyed monster which doth mock The meat it feeds on. ~William Shakespeare, Othello This post is fueled by gallons of coffee, mountains of cinnamon rolls and all other fragrance combinations that make me feel good! Fox News tells me that smells determine some of our moods. Um maybe that's why dirty laundry ticks me off! Twitter is my new favorite

Confessions of A Dot Mom Mogul
2008-07-17 13:07:56
Since I'm feeling the need to expound loquaciously (yeah go look that one up) today, I've decided to share with you my true confessions.  Before you ask, I know the microphone is on (shame Jesse Jackson didn't seem to know that) and some of this could be pretty scary. Butts Are Us I'm a smoker. Not a reformed smoker. Not a quitter. I smoke cigarettes. Fags, coffin nails, what ever you choose to

Instant Karma’s Gonna Get You
2008-07-17 08:44:25
Just a few more words on comments and blogging in general. And a warning about that blogthrax* commenter. (Otherwise known as a troll, impostor or worse). This all comes on the heels of a post over at Barking Mad and some flaming email and comments that Auds wrote about earlier this week. Blogs and comments are great. (How's that for an insightful thesis?) They allow us to socialize with others

Dirty Sexy Comments
2008-07-16 07:54:59
This is not a plea for comments for THIS blog. I talk about my  chronic commentitis here. I use my blog only as a reference point. Instead, this is a reminder that comments are like chocolate, really good if they're rich and  have some substance to them. And that if you can’t comment, you can still help out the bloggers that you like.  A big shout out to Mommie Pie and Bloghernot 2008. I'll b

Weekends Were Made For This
2008-08-09 14:38:48
I got a message last night on my voice mail, that I might just keep forever. It was my grand-son. In his sheepishly shy voice he asked could he come see me and grandpa. Over and Over. I couldn't call him back fast enough to ask what this was all about. He told me "I just want to see you". "I love you". Well, folks let me tell you something right now. If you melted the first time your child said "

Me and Jerry McGuire
2008-08-07 14:54:15
When in the course of human events....no wait that's  the Declaration of Independence. Oh yeah. More post Blogher drama over at Blurbomat. Oh my goodness, will some people just not grow up? Remember what mama used to tell you about sticks and stones. I'm absolutely sure that this woman is human. She's not a mythical hobbit, nor Santa Claus, nor is she Jesus.  Jenny, The Blogess pointed out tha

Give A Sista Some Read
2008-08-03 07:47:39
One of my favorite daily reads is Kristen over at Motherhood Uncensored (she's not kidding folks). Right now she's surviving the long hot southern summer in a very pregnant way. (pun intended) In honor of our country's current fiscal situation and well the heat of the deep south and her husband's currently missing libido (yall remember what pregnancy does to your own libdio don' t ya?), she's d

30 Thousand Pounds of Bananas
2008-08-01 15:25:39
Back in the 70's when we were all a lot younger, (some of you not even born yet), Harry Chapin sang a song about 30 Thousand Pounds of Bananas loaded on a runaway 18 wheeler in Scranton, PA.  I honestly had no appreciation for that until this week! Seems everything that could happen, has. And my days have been like 30 thousand pounds of smashed bananas ! Birds Eye Views has opened today ! In kee

Ok, I'm a tightwad. I own a 1984 mercedes benz.(300 DTD) Bought and paid for in the days when diesel was 50 cents a gallon. (It only went sky high in the last 4 or so) When the cost of diesel fuel went through the roof, along with gasoline prices, I decided that it was more economic for us to park the car that used the expensive fuel and drive the little gas saver. This all worked well until today

Fearless Frugal Fanny Returns !
2008-07-29 12:18:54
For those of you who know me personally and those who have been reading me for a while, you'll already know this. For the rest of you, I've got a confession to make.  I'm no Domestic Engineer. Dust was made for writing in and keeping small children company, when they hide under the bed. Another little known fact about me, (see Confessions of A Dot Mom Mogul for more tidbits) is that, while I love

Where’s Caylee ???
2008-07-26 10:48:07
This is a very special edition of JAMM and I beg you all to link to this story in some way.   This story is just insane, and that doesn't even cover the tip of the iceberg. At the heart of it is 2 year old Caylee Marie Anthony, who has not been seen since June 9th. Her mother, for reasons I guess only known to her, did not report her missing. She says that she dropped her off at a babysitter,

Actions Speak Louder Than Words

Or do they? Here's a little heads-up on two upcoming blog event days that are worth participating in. Blog Day- August 31, 2008 August 31 is  BlogDay. With the birth of BlogDay four years ago, the brains behind the program wanted  to spur bloggers to get to know one another ; become better acquainted with bloggers from other countries, and other areas of interest. So on August 31,

My Big Fat End Of Summer Pool Party
2008-08-15 14:22:18
Summer's drawing to an end. Kids are headed back to school. (yeah!) We didn't vacation this year, we worked, so I'm a little nostalgic for the summer I missed.  Labor day is right around the corner, and every year with only a few exceptions I've thrown my Annual End of Summer Beach Side Pool Party . This year some things will be a little different and somethings won't.  And there are a few things

Logic and The State of Confusion
2008-08-14 13:57:25
Years studying philosophy and logic serve no purpose when it comes to the confusion that is the future of our household. A logical argument would say, if x happens then y will be the future. Clue: it doesn't happen that way in real life. But if we practice our arguments we can get better in the communications department. Now when I say argument, I don't mean the raised voice, I'm right, you're w

Ok, you all allowed me to have a little fun the other day at the expense of my family, well not really. But, you did allow me to have a little fun. So, without further ado, or any ado at all. Let me introduce you to some of the Bird's hatchlings. These are the older kids and their chicks. Meet Beano and TMomma. Beano's the first hatchling of the bunch and my hero. He survived my single parenthood

The Whole Dam Family
2008-08-11 13:24:19
I spent Sunday doing the ubiquitous laundry. Because our machines have gone to storage for the great move, we made the trek to the in-laws yesterday afternoon. Visiting with the folks is always interesting, and yesterday proved to be no different. Nursetobe and her sweetie Deerman came by while we were there and discussion focused on Deerman's latest start-up business venture. Some time during tha

Am I Nuts?
2008-09-13 14:28:54
Could be! You tell me! Anybody who knows me well, knows that I do some pretty weird stuff when I get antsy. (That's southern for nervous)  And this weekend I'm really antsy about that storm in TX. One of those weird things I do is eat. A lot. Anything not nailed down. I'm trying to get that under control. So instead of eating all these gorgeous pecans right now, I'm going to give you a few fal

In this speech, Obama talks about having integrity within himself and his campaign. Among other things. This is the full context of the speech. Yet, look at the following and you try to tell me that there's integrity.   I can't make this stuff up folks, you decide.

Walking In Grace Amid Turmoil
2008-09-11 15:08:25
I threw in my towel yesterday. So tired of all the mud slinging, trash talking and utter nonsense around me. I pulled the plug on my ear-buds, turned off my laptop, turned off the television, the satellite radio and listen to the katy-dids. Oh the pleasures of the small town south! Breathing in the cool night air brought a sense of calm, the din of chatter silenced and I soaked it in. As I reflec

Smarter Than A Fifth Grader!
2008-09-10 14:07:49
Dear Mr (s) Obama and McCain, I'm a mom, a writer and a southerner and I have had it up to my ears with this political season! So, I'm just going to pack up and move to Costa Rica and watch this kindergarten brawl from a distance. I've had enough with the name calling, the blatant lies, the glib comments , and the absolute childishness that this entire campaign has taken on. Mr. Obama  your s

Not Above MY Pay Grade!
2008-09-08 13:41:44
The following article is basis for a letter I have written to Mr. Obama and Mr. McCain. The content within is of course my opinion. I am not asking for consensus, nor am I asking for your vote for either candidate. This article is written in response to a question I asked of my readers earlier in the month. I've frankly stayed out of the political debate, the "mommy wars" and so forth, but I have

Help Me Get My MoJo Back
2008-09-04 11:55:17
Yesterday, I wrestled with the idea of posting on a subject that is part of my core.  I twittered and phoned and emailed and wrestled with it more. I wrote, saved and left over night a post that today, I wonder if I will ever publish. This blog was never intended as a political outlet. Nor were my personal beliefs, morals, ethics or religion intended to be spouted like Vatican Encyclicals. So, I
