Congress Likely to Raise Minimum Wage By JEANNINE AVERSA AP Economics Writer© 2006 The Associated Press WASHINGTON — Imagine what it would be like to work without a pay raise for nearly 10 years. That's been the plight of some workers who for almost the past decade have been earning the federal minimum wage. Their last pay increase _ to $5.15 an hour _ came in 1997. There could be some relief in sight. Who works for ten years without a pay increase?!?! The only way this happens is if you are job hopping. When the Democrat-controlled 110th Congress convenes in early January, a top priority is boosting the federal minimum wage to $7.25 an hour. The increase is likely to be phased in, perhaps over 26 months. Alice Laguerre is among the millions of workers now earning less than $7.25 an hour. She makes $6.55 an hour driving cars headed for the auction blocks in Orlando, Fla., and says a boost in the federal minimum wage would help her build a nest egg for emergencies. I donâ

Was reading that Pope Pius IX who was pope from 1846 until 1878 then died at age of 85. I then discovered that he is who we have to blame for much of the worlds current ills. For it was he who was responsible for doming up with the doctrine of Immaculate Conception and papal infallibility. I'll give him a pass on the Immaculate Conception. Basically the difference between Catholic and Protestant stands on this is one of semantics. My real beef is with papal infallibility. If the pope say it, it is so. Hogwash. I just pointed this out because from Pius IX on, this was so with the Catholic church. Actually, this is just one of my many beefs with the Catholic church. I'll discuss more at a later time. But since it is Christmas today, that is all. Merry Christmas

Dixie Chicks could bring political edge to Grammys Sun Feb 11, 2007(I'm not posting their whole article, just the first page) By Dean GoodmanLOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The Grammys could take a rare step into the political arena on Sunday if the Dixie Chicks win the coveted album-of-the-year award, as observers of the music industry's biggest honors are predicting. The Texas country trio is reveling in its new outsider status after picking a fight with President George W. Bush in 2003, and watching its popularity plummet as the Republican-leaning country music establishment snubbed the chart-topping group. The Chicks' first album since the brouhaha, "Taking the Long Way," yielded five Grammy nominations, including three for the wry single "Not Ready to Make Nice." The acclaimed album was the ninth-biggest seller in the United States last year, even if its commercial success fell short of its predecessors. Grammy voters love underdogs and comeback stories, which could help the Dixie Ch

New wage boost puts squeeze on teenage workers across ArizonaEmployers are cutting back hours, laying off young staffersChad GrahamThe Arizona RepublicFeb. 10, 2007Oh, for the days when Arizona's high school students could roll pizza dough, sweep up sticky floors in theaters or scoop ice cream without worrying about ballot initiatives affecting their earning power. That's certainly not the case under the state's new minimum-wage law that went into effect last month. Some Valley employers, especially those in the food industry, say payroll budgets have risen so much that they're cutting hours, instituting hiring freezes and laying off employees.Well suprise, suprise. What did you brain dead libs think was gonna happen? I'm sorry I can't conceal my outrage at this economic lunacy. Wake up socialist morons! Let the markets work! And teens are among the first workers to go.Companies maintain the new wage was raised to $6.75 per hour from $5.15 per hour to help the breadwinners i

The real truth about global warming...

Libs love to ignore facts, logic and rationality. Well here is some that is staring you right in the face. I have never been Limbaughesque in that I out and out deny global warming, just that there isnt enough proof that it is caused by man. Well, here is some more proof. Enjoy. From The Sunday Times February 11, 2007An experiment that hints we are wrong on climate changeNigel Calder, former editor of New Scientist, says the orthodoxy must be challenged When politicians and journalists declare that the science of global warming is settled, they show a regrettable ignorance about how science works. We were treated to another dose of it recently when the experts of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change issued the Summary for Policymakers that puts the political spin on an unfinished scientific dossier on climate change due for publication in a few months' time. They declared that most of the rise in temperatures since the mid-20th century is very likely due to m

Why I am a conservative ....not a Republican...and urge you to be the same.

I want to say upfront that I voted for George Bush...twice. But hindsight is, as the well worn cliche goes, 20/20. But he was the lesser of the two evils. But my blanket support of repubs is loooong gone. Why? Well, in my eyes, repubs were always the choice of reason, of logic, of hope and self determination. But as the Years After Reagan(YAR) grow more and more, they have slipped further and further away from his beliefs. Bushy and his admin. used the guise of 9/11 to go and start a monumentally disastrous war in Iraq. The rest of his policy is neither here nor there in regards to his war on terror. Which I don't get too hung up on. The same people who are terrified of wire tapping don't have any qualms about big brothers cameras watching our every move. Yet they pitch a hi

Obama's judgement as commander in cheif
2008-03-17 08:08:00
Obama has always sang from the mountain top that he will have us out of Iraq withing 16 months of taking office. I question the judgment of any presidential candidate who wants to yank us out of Iraq hilly-nilly. I'll beat this drum to death, but you can argue that we should not have gone in to Iraq in the first place, but now that we are and in the mess that we are, you had better realize the disaster that pulling out now would create. This is not Vietnam folks. This one has a whole different endgame. We could bail on Vietnam and the worst that would happen is a country falls to communism. Iraq sits on the second largest known reserves of oil in the world. Who is providing the insurgents with money, equipment and expertise in Iraq right now? That's right, crazy neighbor, nuclear h
