20 cm x 20 cm. 7.9 in x 7.9 in.Oil on stretched linen canvas" A warm afternoon in October, the sky pure and cloudless and the distant fields are hazy. South Downs 1 1970-01-01 00:59:59 South Downs 115cm x 10cm. 6in x 4in.Oil on canvas board.Framed size 22cm x 17cm This rolling landscape with its wide-open skies and softly folded hills is, for me, forever England. We drove through the South Downs this time last year, on the way to the funeral of a friend. Emotions very raw we listened to Vaughn Williams and watched this achingly beautiful landscape unfold. I wept and drew, loving the hills and dried winter colours.I want to make bigger paintings of this place but I think that I will have to make a special trip, just to drink it in.This little study is one of two; its partner appears tomorrow. Each painting costs:40 pounds (UK) 78 dollars (USA) and 60 euros (Europe). Light Through Trees 1 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Light Through Trees
115cm x 10cm. 6in x 4in.Oil on canvas board.Framed size 22cm x 17cmAnother exploration of light in my favourite place, deep in the forest. I am working towards some watercolours I think. I keep being drawn in by the amount of colour that I can see here. Rich gold's and oranges where the sunlight touches the winter leaves. Soft blues and purples hidden in the shadows. 40 pounds (UK) 78 dollars (USA) and 60 euros (Europe). This includes the postage.
Rust 1970-01-01 00:59:59 SOLD Rust16cm x 16cm. 6.3in x 6.3in.Oil on stretched canvas"Walking across the fields I found this rusty bell, its used by the hunters for their dogs. The metal all rusted and the old green leather strap sodden and faded. Time drawing on the surfaces. It must have lain hidden in the grass for month's maybe even years before I picked it up and moved it on. A little, slow journey. It reminded me of a moment when I lived in Israel. I was working on some illustrations for a book and I was given a roman oil lamp to draw and I could hold it. It was a very simple, pottery lamp but as I worked I saw impressed into the clay the thumbprint of the potter who had made it. Leaping across a thousand years or more, a moment in time lands at your feet or in your hands. A story reveals part of itself and, if you are lucky, you are there when this happens"This is for sale.60 pounds (UK) 116 dollars (USA) and 90 euros (Europe). on Spotted Cloth
20cm x 20cm. 6.3in x 6.3in.Oil on stretched canvasBeautiful pink scented flowers with strong shadows made by early spring sunshine. 40cm x 40cm. 16in x 16in.Oil on stretched canvasSaturday afternoon shopping involves very civilised rest stops in the local bar. It is full of families enjoying coffee, hot chocolate or wine. Breton Horse. 2007-03-07 15:12:00 SOLDBretonHorse
.20cm x 20cm. 6.3in x 6.3in.Oil on stretched canvas.I love these beautiful, huge Breton horses; the solid presence of them is both slightly frightening and comforting at the same time. I adore them, I love the smell of the stables and the peaceful noise of the horses chewing and breathing. This one was standing asleep, perfect, still and lovely to draw.60 pounds (UK) 116 dollars (USA) and 85 euros (Europe). This includes the postage.
Sleeping Giant. 2007-03-09 14:59:00 SOLDSleeping
Giant.20cm x 20cm. 8in x 8in.Oil gesso board.Another Breton Horse. I am still surprised that I like these horses so much, as I said before, I don’t even ride but I am so in awe of them and love drawing and painting them.I am trying out a new surface for painting on, gesso board and so far I like it very much. I have also tried to leave a little space around the edge to accommodate a frame. I had forgotten that people like to frame paintings until one of my friends reminded me. Woops, sorry!
Spring Garden. 2007-03-11 09:39:00 Spring Garden
.17.8cm x 20cm. 7in x 8in.Oil gesso board. This is my neighbour’s garden, he has owned this place for 25 years, he lives in Lorient and comes out here about twice a month to mow his grass and clip his hedge. I sneak in here when he is away because I like clipped in hedges in gardens, they provide good contrasts of dark greens. My garden is a wide-open space, not a hedge in sight, certainly nothing clipped! Yesterday was a beautiful sunny day and in Gerard’s garden the first blue bells and daffodils shone like coloured sparks within the shadows of the trees. The grass is that acid green of spring, it is like a reaction against all the browns and greys of winter.60 pounds (UK) 116 dollars (USA) and 85 euros (Europe). This includes the postage.
