2007 Year In Photos: Skateboarding
2008-03-06 18:39:16
It might be March 2008, but it's never too late to look back on the year that was 2007. 2007 ushered in a lot of growth in the skateboarding community, including two new MTV reality shows about skateboarding, featuring professional skateboarders. This of course doesn't include the MTV show Scarred which features skateboarding bails and injuries in each program that they broadcast. Moreover, the year featured some amazing photography. Hemmy.net compiled a good photo essay of the best photos that came through the lenses of photographers, and while some of them maybe questionable, there was one that stood out to me and the rest of the world in regards to something that we love. Something universal, something pure, something that doesn't need a team or competitive mentality, that something is:

Beanie Sigel Dgk Limited Skateboard Deck
2008-03-06 16:50:02
Remember Ghostface Killah had a collaboration with Zoo York? No one found those decks, as far as I know, but it was hot news for a while. Remember Lupe Fiasco's deal with Element Skateboard s? Well move those over into the "yesterdays news" category of things because Beanie Sigel has his own skateboard deck in limited quantities from DGK! That's right, Beanie and DGK have collaborated on this skateboard and there's only 300 out there, so if you're a fan of collecting rare skateboards, or just like hip hop related skateboarding crossovers, you're going to have to check this deck out. I work at a skate shop, and we don't have them, nor can we get our grubby paws on them. But maybe you can track it down, and if so, get one, 1 in 300 means that they are going to be rare and a hot commodity. Not

Seshn.com - Action Sports Community
2008-03-05 13:21:16
I was recently approached by seshn.com to be a contributor to their growing Action Sports website. While I was reluctant at first, I decided to just roll with it, and am now officially a contributor in their skate department. You can catch up with more skateboarding posts over at seshn.com from me, sir j. Don't worry, this site isn't going anywhere, and I'm still going to bring you top notch posts about the skateboarding world, but I'll also be over at seshn.com dropping bombs of information.I love skateboarding, nothing will change that, but I also love writing, and if I could write about skateboarding all day, then I would. This is just another step in the many steps that come along with writing about skateboarding all day.Now if only I can get paid.

Paper Skateboards
2008-03-05 13:06:25
I remember as a teenager, bored in school, I would make skateboards out of paper, cardboard, or anything I could find lying around, and I would skate like crazy, while at my desk. This of course was before the tech deck revolution that has enveloped younger generations of skateboarders. Well, looks like I'm not the only one that has fond memories of fooling around in school, because over at papercraftparadise.blogspot.com they have a post today about the subject; paper skateboards! They are light, but not necessarily durable, but they look a lot better than the beasts that I was making as a youngster. Check it out here.

Supra Cuban Shoes
2008-03-05 12:59:09
For those of you that are still aspiring to be Tony Montana, here you go: The latest issue from Supra Footwear combines a little machismo with the all out comfort of a boating shoe. The Supra Cuban is a combination of styles melted into a skate shoe for those of you out there that want to be big ballin. I still like the Muskas by comparison...but hey, Supra knows what they are doing.

Structure New Orleans Limited Art Decks
2008-03-04 13:28:31
Structure NOLA has set up some interesting artistic approaches to their latest line up of skateboard decks. These are done quite nicely, and look more like art pieces than skateboards. This is something that I've always enjoyed, as I can't be a professional, I can at least own a piece of art and hang it on the wall in a format that I enjoy more than canvas. You too can own a piece of this action, visit structurenola.com and see the selection of awesome skate decks. Also check out structureskateboards.com a collaboration of art, style, and of course our favorite topic around these parts: skateboarding.

DC Skate Store: Los Angeles
2008-02-29 13:29:50
DC Shoes has been gaining a lot of exposure thanks to Rob & Big, but that's not to say that Dyrdek was the reason for an all Dc Skate store in Los Angeles . It recently opened up in the Melrose district, and the grand opening party brought out the team and some very lovely ladies to hang out and dig the goods. My only problem with this sort of thing is that while living in Los Angeles , I never got to see these events, or meet the professionals, and now that I live in Seattle, the skate community surrounding Los Angeles is setting up awesome destinations; complete with mini-ramp goodness. Check out more photos and info from the event via Complex.com

Solitary Arts: Hand Made Skateboards
2008-02-29 13:25:55
Apparently there is a company out there that is dedicated to making high end skateboards by hand. That means mexican labor, but skateboards made without the use of chinese immigrants pushing buttons and sanding them down, then silk screening them in massive amounts. Higher priced, luxury (if you ask me), but unique skateboards. Solitary Arts has my vote on the concept, but the price tag...I'm not sold on. Link via FormFiftyFive.com

Etnies vs. I-Path
2008-02-29 13:23:24
Etnies has launched a new series of shoes entitled "Etnies Plus" and they are more high end collaborative efforts than their skate shoe line up that has been growing in popularity due in large part to exposure in main stream culture. The latest from them appear to be a hybrid of what I-Path has already done...but then again, maybe Etnies had this concept all along, and I-Path didn't...or maybe Wallabees are coming back in style...I always liked those.

Ed Templeton Emerica Shoe
2008-02-28 17:17:19
The latest shoe from Emerica & Ed Templeton shows that he can do more than just cool drawings on a slip on and low top from last Summer. This one is a skate high, for all you purists, and it features some original artwork from none other than Ed Templeton. Not too bad. They are better than the horrendous new MUSKA's I just saw come through my rss feeds.

Matix recently held a series called Lord of the Lines which had skateboarders from all over attempting to win some serious cash. Zero Skateboards Spring 08 Decks
2008-03-12 11:52:29
Zero Skateboards is one of my personal favorite skateboarding companies. I've ridden four of their decks in the past, and none of them broke on me, they all maintained their pop, and were well worth the cost. I enjoyed my time with those decks, and even though some of the confederate flags weren't exactly so well received in my small Los Angeles city, things were looking alright. I don't know about you, but these graphics are amazing. Considering the trend that is going on in skateboard graphics right now, Zero skateboards is doing something incredible. I'm definitely going to be picking up one of these decks, and maybe a couple more for the wall. If you're interested in getting yourself a Zero Skateboard, check out or online store by clicking here.

Supra Suprano White Leopard
2008-03-11 16:34:49
The Greco shoes, the Supra Suprano just keeps on coming. Just like the Chad Muska collaborations with Supra, these are outlandish, and outside of the confines of traditional skateboarding. Your average skate shoe does not look anything like this, and its interesting to see the design department trying their best to gauge what's going to be good next.I do not know a whole lot of skateboarders that are going to rock this pair of Supra's, but Greco knows best. Supra's Suprano in White Leopard leaves a little to be wanted though.Speaking of Supra, check out Supra in our online store here.

Tony Hawk's Video Game Future Looks Bad
2008-03-11 15:17:16
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater got me to waste weeks at a time playing the original. I even plopped ten bucks down to buy the demo of the game at Best Buy when it originally came out. The game was awesome, and to this day is one of my favorite games to play on my Playstation. That game spawned a ton of sequels, making it one of the best selling game franchises of all time. However, last year the world of video games was shocked to see a new comer, EA's Skate take over the sales chart, dethroning the legendary birdman. What now?Tony Hawk has to come up with a new gameplan, and as of this week, Tony Hawk met with Activision to pen out another way to market the game or to revolutionize the skateboarding formula. Can Tony Hawk bounce back and take over the skateboarding glory? Or will EA's skate contin
