Storm Deep Thunderstick
2008-03-14 19:34:00
Deep Thunderstick vs contour trollingIn the summertime, walleyes tend to spread out along rock structure, reefs or shoreline. They are not crowded anymore like they are during the spawn season. They aren't hanging out in predictable places like cups and tips but are dispersed along the whole structure. You will need some good fishing skills and a good fishfinder to find them. Trolling a Storm Deep Thunderstick over structure in water 20 feet deep or less is a great way to catch these scattered fish. This unique method of fishing is called "contour trolling" because you want to keep the lure at one depth -- typically right off a rocky bottom, or reef edge. This is the favorite fishing strategy of by good fishing partner "Pat Malservisi".While "contour trolling", make sure you follow th

rattle rings
2008-03-21 10:04:00
Rattle rings from Northland is of the best kept walleye fishing secrets! With those rattle rings, you can add sound to jigs so walleyes can locate them, even in stained waters line in the spring. Those rattle rings are designed to fit all hook shafts and they are made in USA.The rattle rings are the most versatile and deadly rattle ever developed for walleye fishing. They are designed with a patented "silicone ring" and they emit a sonic "rattlin" vibrations to attract walleye and most important to trigger strikes! "It rings the dinner belt!"This is a great walleye fishing accessories that can make the different when the fish are not really active. Make sure you will have several units in your tackle box since you will need to share that fishing secret with your fishing bodies ;)

Where to locate walleye
2008-03-23 20:26:00
Know how to locate walleyeIn order to catch trophy walleye, the most important tip is to know how to locate walleye. When you get to a lake, you must be able to map the water. You must understand the lake structure. First, you should locate all the fishing areas that can hold fish. Built a route to cover all the selected areas and always start fishing by trying to cover as much water as possible: trolling strategy! When you identify the potential fishing spots, keep in mind your preferred fishing style. I can't hide here that my strongest technique is: vertical jigging! Study the lake mapOne of my private strategy is to study the lake map several days prior to the fishing trips. If I'm planning to fish for walleye right at the beginning of the season, I will try locate any potenti

Some anglers might think that they had caught a blue walleye since then but they were not true blue walleye. Here is a good hint to validate if it's a true blue walleye: wrap your blue walleye in newspaper and the slim will come off and the newspaper will turn blue; it's not a true blue walleye!Walleye closest relative: the saugerThe closest relative to a walleye is the sauger, a fish often mistaken for the walleye. Pre-spawn
2008-03-28 13:13:00
Understanding the walleye pre-spawn periodAs soon as walleyes start assembling in their spawning area, this is a good indicator of the beginning of the pre-spawn period. Every year is different, it's the water temperature that triggers the walleye's biological clock that will tell them to move towards their spawning areas. Biologists have identified that walleyes will usually begin spawning when the water temperature is somewhere between 40˚f and 50˚f. Males are just like military, first ones in and last ones out of the spawning location! Since the pre-spawn period is mostly related to water temperature, it could start even if the lake, river or reservoir is still covered with ice!Walleyes will usually stay in there pre-spawn location for about a month. Their preferred locations f

Walleye Reel

Best Walleye ReelsHere are some key features that you should evaluate when you are looking for a walleye reel. With this first post on walleye reel, we will cover all the feature that you must look for a spinning reel that you could use for walleye jigging.Line capacityLine capacity is the key consideration in selecting the best walleye reel. If you are planning to use a spinning reel mainly for jigging, you won't probably need more then 125-yards. 125-yards, that's exactly the length of my preferred walleye fishing line spool : Berkley Fireline Crystal-Line 8 Lb test.Gear ratioThe gear ratio will tell you how quickly the reel will retrieve line per revolution of your reel's crank. A lower ratio will provide more power when bringing fish from deeper depths. Higher gear ratio will be

Spawning conditions
2008-04-14 09:36:00
Walleye spawning water temperatureI’ve experienced that all walleyes do not spawn at the same time, some start early with the majority spawning during the ideal conditions and some will spawn extremely late in the spring, especially the younger females. The males arrive on the spawning beds first with the females following when the water conditions are ideal. Remember, males are always first in and last out!Walleyes spawn in water from one foot to over 20 feet deep. . An abundance of broken rocks and gravel in water three to 10 feet deep will normally attract the largest concentrations of fish. Winning conditions for spawning activity are water temperature, rock or rubble shore lines. A spawning temperature of 40 degrees Fahrenheit will start the spawning action and 52 degrees is the

Night Walleye
2008-04-22 20:17:00
Walleye anglers will always recommend that if one wishes to have a good bite it is best to begin walleye fishing 2 hours before sunrise or after sunset. Sometime, "the night time is the right time" for walleye.I would recommend you to troll and cover some water to find walleye feeding at night. Prime night walleye locations include weedlines, large feeding flats, main lake points, narrows, wind-bashed shorelines, sunken islands and reefs and river inlet areas. In the spring, I prefer weedlines and wind bashed shorelines, while in mid to late summer I choose sunken islands and reefs. In the fall, current areas and shallow to steep shorelines, which have had daily wind and wave activity, can be hot spots for night walleye. Lucky Craft Staysee

Lucky Craft :: StayseeThe STAYSEE is jerk-bait initially build for bass but very good for walleye fishing. Unlike many jerk-baits that are ripped across the surface of the water, this bait is fished 8-10 feet below the surface with a perfect nose-down and suspend retrieve. The STAYSEE is equipped with a unique combination of rattles, which create the gravity suspending action and permits long casts. This walleye lure is available in eight colors making this suspending jerk-bait a very effective and exciting lure. My preferred color are Nishiki and Black & Gold. The STAYSEE is equipped with a unique combination of rattles, which create the gravity suspending action and permits long casts. With a rated running depth of eight to ten feet, this is a great walleye lure!
