Daughter 2008-03-08 02:15:00 I's not a version of my daughter, I didn't do anything to the picture, thought it was nice the way it is. So this is my daughter with a typical bedouin head decoration, we were in Dahab a little town on the Red Sea "Sinai" in Egypt. you have 2 options in Dahab => either to Dive or to relax and sit in cafe's by the carpet like Red Sea. We had a really good time.Other artists with versions of their Kids :Bill EvertsonJafabrit

I've been tagged ! its my first time !! 2008-02-15 02:06:00 I really like painting and drawing with Ink => Encre de chine, this is another Andalusian small alley.I was tagged tag by Mellanie Collins on See it. Draw it. Share it. This is my First tag so I am not really sure what to do…. I must tell 5 things about myself I guess. So here it is :1- My name is Nader, so "doudy" is the nick name that all my friends and family members call me. I work as an Internet developer for 3 years now although my education was in accounting, I taught myself and took several programming languages modules.2- I always liked to draw, sketch and paint but I realised lately that I wanted to this for the rest of my life.3- I am married to the love of my life and have a 3 years old daughter who seems to adore painting with watercolors too. 4- Yesterday was the Saint Val
Painting a house in watercolors 2008-02-10 01:46:00 I am publishing my first colour trial for this house...I think I am going to change the colour of the tiles, and use a mixture of light red and Raw sienna to give it a more hot colour. As for the walls of the house maybe i'll go for a gray colour leaving the walls facing the light in white and the walls in the shade with a mixture of French Ultramarine and Burnt Umber.

Oak Trees wet into wet in watercolors 2008-02-06 14:08:00 I felt that I needed to just paint something without composition, so since I love to paint landscapes, I thought that painting trees will be a good starting point. These trees were painted very rapidly without giving the various layers of colours enough time to dry.... wet into wet painting enable the colours to merge.

Hollyhocks in Watercolor 2008-02-03 08:23:00 I had to pull my strengh very hard to publish this.. the first trial for painting these flowers is a total disaster, I made one deadly but tempting mistake is to put a lot of colors, result is FAILURE :), I tried to choose colors from my imagination...I think this time I will search for real Hollyhocks pictures on the internet and try to be inspired. Promise don't laugh!!!

Sketch before painting in Watercolors 2008-01-29 04:41:00 I never realised the importance of a pencil sketch as a study before doing a painting in watercolors or any other medium until now. After visiting different artists’ Blogs I realised that the majority of artists start with a sketch depicting the outlines, the composition and far more with testing different colours and how they blend together. I will start from now on to better study my work before starting my paintings. So this is a sketch I made as a study for a painting in watercolours. The sketch turned up fine, But I am a little afraid of starting it in watercolours… I guess I will make various tests in Aquarelle too. So wish me luck, I will try to post the different steps so that I can read your comments and improve it along the way.Recommended Blogs :See It. Draw It. Share It. Is

3 Blessings a Day 2008-01-24 01:43:00 I was tired, had a very hectic week (btw I still do :) ), and I came on a Blog and I see 2 pictures of a cat named Miss Kitty and her favourite sleeping position was on her back…The post amused me, so I decided to leave a comment on how things are not going for me as they should be, I was just kind of leaving a message in the void, I didn’t expect any reply…But one day later, I visit this Blog again and I see this message entitled “ Support for a striving Artist “ and it reads :“ We all have those days when nothing seems to go right. We are not alone! From personal experience, when I am feeling this way I know I need to dig to look for the goodness and blessings that are in my life (right now, today). I always find that I do not need to dig deep...in fact, I have never needed a Read more:Blessings
Trees in Watercolors 2008-01-21 03:33:00 Thanks to the book called “de l’esquisse à l’aquarelle” by Peter Woolley, I somehow succeeded in this aquarelle painting…the book explains each step of the painting with many valuable details, such as the mixture of colours (which I will not say unless you insist), the brushstrokes forms and most importantly the thinking behind choosing a certain colour, for example why use a dark blue colour near the extremities of the trees…because by painting the tree leaves in negative it give them a natural feeling…Of course the painting in Peter’s book is much more explaining than mine, he is a great artist especially when it comes to painting in NEGATIVE.I am satisfied of this painting because when I semi-close my eyes I have the impression of seeing real trees…..and that’s for Read more:Trees

Sky dry with Aquarelle 2008-01-17 06:56:00 My first dry Sky, done by dry applications meaning before applying the grey color, the initial blue color was totally dry (in case you are a beginner like myself). colors used: Sky => Blue Winsor, Clouds => Grey ( mixture of Ultramarine Blue + Burnt Umber ). The HARDEST part was to apply the Blue "lavis" while drawing the clouds in NEGATIVE while leaving minimum traces of brushstrokes of Blue in order to distribute light smoothly. I think I pulled it off by 40%......Drawing negative is by applying the blue color, the blank spaces that are left white, are forming the clouds. I first did a sketch in pencil to prepare it, actually I did quite a few, but this was the nicest.

Wet landscape 2008-01-16 03:18:00 The background grey is:Ultramarine French Blue + Burnt Umberthe result is a cold background, I learned that the highly diluted background as a contrast to the heavy colour of the tree gives tonal difference and in turn gives depth.... Hurrrrray :)This reminds me of a great site called Acuarela where I saw a post about the palette that the artist use, and the different colour names with abbreviations ex: PBr7 is for (Burnt Umber), very interesting site... !!When I worked the foreground (the grass under the tree) wet on wet it gave it a cold allure, although the yellow and orange used aren't cold colours...... so I think, I could be wrong....I followed a Watercolour class book, and I enjoyed it.

How to create depth in a painting 2008-01-13 04:39:00 Unlike what I thought for years, that depth in a drawing is create
d by the size of different forms, this is part true but I think that isn't everything, one very useful tip I discovered lately for creating depth, for example with 2 trees, is placing one below the horizontal line representing the horizon and the other closer to the line, as in this sketch. I am so glad I figured this out, I am proud of myself !!! :)" Swallow your pride occasionally, it's not fattening " - Unknown Author

Tonal differences in watercolors 2008-01-12 12:17:00 I am late for work, but I could'nt go without posting, so I'll do it quickly, this is the advice of a friend of mine, he told me that painting in monochrome is a good exercise, especially with blue color, because it provides good tonal differences
, so here it is my first monochrome test .....!!!!!!If you have tips for me .....would really appreciate them. Thanx

How to paint glass 2008-01-11 14:58:00 This painting is done based on another painting, that's why this time I almost succeeded in getting the glass vase and reflections right. But the result will not be as good, if I was to paint a real vase which is in front of me. Translating color reflections in glass is really like magic, and I haven't reached this level yet.

Hagia Sophia pencil sketche 2008-01-08 09:32:00 Hagia Sophia
in Istanbul which means the “Holy Wisdom” was constructed in 532 AD as a church, and later in 1453 it was turned into a mosque when constantinople was conquered by the Ottomans on the orders of Sultan Mehmet II, four minarets were then added to the church as well as other Islamic features as the minbar which was used by holy men (Cheicks) to perform their preaches and sermons. Well unfortunately the four minarets are not visible in my sketche, but they are there I am sure. What I really like about this (former church, later mosque, currently mueseum) is that the Islamic features and especially the 4 slim minarets outside do not appear to be a later addition to the initial body, on the contrary they blend in beautifully. Its Amazing !!!!!!!!!!!!!Please post your comments ab Read more:Hagia
Wet on wet watercolor 2008-01-06 14:26:00 This is my first wet on wet watercolor painting, I just took the concept of doing the flower from a tutorial book "Painting class Watercolor from A to Z" and made several flowers, trying at the same time to make a nice formation. So the flowers are to painted in red and yellow... first the red color is applied with a big amount of water and a big amount of red color in order to create a strong colored area. Then the yellow color is added with brushstrokes also full of color and water on the still wet red color. After that watermarks will appear (not everytime), various unpredictable effects will be seen, these effects are out of our control but are very interesting and produce very dynamic combinations of color, and that is the beauty of painting in watercolors. You can add more effects just
How to learn shading with a pencil 2008-01-04 05:14:00 Well, I am working with a book called "de l'esquisse à l'aquarelle", its a great book done by Peter Woolley, he is a genius artist, and his book is about starting with a sketche and turning it into a final painting in watercolors, so for me its just PERFECT.Thanks Peter, you don't know me, but I am a very big fan of your works. You can see the works of Peter on this site : as I am starting to do a sketche, well the most important thing is to learn
shading with a pencil, this way I could make tonal differences in my skecthe and give it a real 3D feel.Technorati Profile

Old country house 2007-12-30 13:07:00 Country House sketche done in pencil.Pencils used : 5B for 90% of outlines and 2H for shading ( I don't know if the word shading is in place, well I mean the dark effects on the left side of the house, away from the sun)It's really easy, the secret is the little stone-like shapes on the shaded areas of the house that give it a real feel of an old stony house (as simple as that :) ). And the light lines on the areas facing the sun, well Its actually one area :) The most important part is that I am enjoying every moment, even if sometimes I really really fail totaly my drawings........I don't give up.PS: Actually I drawn this sketche based upon a picture in a book teaching how to draw in pencil. So its not my imagination or anything like that ........heheheheThat's about it Folks !!! :)

Minarets du Caire 2008-03-13 11:51:00 I've always been fascinated by tonal differences to create depth, and especially with blue colour because it give such great tones, so here it is my first authentic painting of Cairo, inspired by a photo that I had to park my car in the middle of the street creating such a mess, in order to take this photo of the ancient Cairo site viewed from a slightly high point. So I used French Ultramarine Blue... the middle tone was mixed with Chinese White and the very soft blue in the background was just heavily diluted...... I wanted to use another colour in this painting so I used in a way the complementry colour of the blue and Violet tones which is the yellow cadmium... so I think i turned up rather nice giving somewhat of city lights in the bottom...Hope you like it.

One thing that I really did bad in this painting is that the water reflection isn't really coherent with the hill itself...!!!! Sorry for that :) but I am rather satisfied with my water reflections shapes, do you agree ????
