Yes, that's right: The Impreza, as seen here, will be a hatchback when the new model makes it's debut for the 2008 model year! Just like the B5 Concept. And, we're hearing the Impreza name may even change with the introduction of the new car, but we can't imagine Subaru dropping the WRX designation. with the mantra Bigger! Wider! Safer! As you might imagine, the new crossover is larger in all dimensions, with a more powerful 3.5L V6 now cranking out 270 hp, 55hp more than the old one. It is still based on the Camry platform, although now it's the most recent edition, which is three inches longer and four inches wider. The ground clearance is also increased by and inch and the wheelbase gets three extra inches. As for the new styling, if you squint you can see a passing resemblance in the front end to the new 2007 Tundra. The biggest emphasis though was on safety. All Highlanders now have side curtain airbags for all three rows of seats as well as a knee bag for the driver. All will also get ABS, traction control, brake assist and stability control. We made it anyway and caught this prototype of a facelifted Volvo S40 during a lonely ride through the cold, cold night far above the Arctic Circle. What we can see is the more profiled nose of the car as well as modified air-intakes on the lower part of the front bumper. The black molding bars below the headlights are fake and the actual shape of the tiny spoiler lip on the lower edge of the front skirt as well as the door sills are hidden by black tape - a clear hint that modifications will be done here, too. The rear bumper, on the other hand, seems to be characterized by additional reflectors in the future - likely because there's not enough room anymore in the taillights which themselves will be re-designed.
