No Joke
2008-04-01 00:43:10
Just a few minutes ago my son said that his dorm mate texted him and said she (the dorm mate) is presently in a hospital in Davao. Why? I asked. The dorm mate said she is confined because a tumor has been found in her lungs. The first thing I asked was, does she smoke? Yes. I felt devastated as the girl is only 17-18 years old. I could feel that my son was rattled too.I said, go and pray for her. I will do likewise later. I feel so sad because at this very moment, a dear cousin is confined in a hospital awaiting her breast cancer removal surgery. This cousin is a very active church choir conductress and pianist. She spent half of her life in the US but opted to stay here in the Philippines after her retirement. I have been praying for her and I do wish my readers will do the same. Her sche

Graduation ?
2008-03-31 08:12:28
It's graduation time in the Philippines. It is a crazy fad here to have graduation rites for students in almost any level. My niece-in-law said that her daughter is at the graduation rite practice. I did a double take since her daughter is 4 years old. The school near our house has a been practicing its prep students ( ages 5.5-6.5 ) their graduation march complete with togas and the changing of the tassle's position. My best friend Eva was not in her house when I dropped by the other day because she attended her granddaugther's kindergarten graduation. Crazy!According to best friend dictionary graduation is a conferral or receipt of an academic degree or diploma marking completion of studies. Thus, you graduate with an undergraduate, graduate or doctoral degree. Graduation is also defin

Edu Manzano's Papaya Song
2008-03-31 02:11:09
Remember the Macarena dance craze from the Philippines that hit the US in the mid 1990's? Well, there is a new dance craze that is reaching great popularity in the old US of A today. The very catchy song with it's overly simple dance steps was even featured in Good Morning America where the hosts tried the dance. What? You have no idea what I'm talking about? You mean you have not heard of Edu Manzano's Papaya Song? Well, it's not actually Edu's song but he made it popular on his Game Ka Na Ba game show. Who sang the papaya song? I don't know. When was this song first released? Late 70's or early 80's? Do you know the lyrics? Duh? Toorooroorooroot, Tiiriiriiriiriit, Toorooroorooroot, too-roo-root-too-root.........I have always liked Edu Manzano. Move over Lucky. Your dad's here to stay.

Jogging Revelry 2
2008-04-04 21:10:45
Daughter #3 (the dentist) and I joined the crowd of joggers and bikers yesterday at the UP academic oval. She went ahead of me as we do not jog at the same pace. She was faster as I was more relaxed. As I started my route right in front of the oblation statue, I noticed that a bonfire was lit up front. Ummm...all part of the 100 years celebration. So I continued. There were less joggers yesterday as compared to last Wednesday. I wonder why. Oooppsss... I almost hit the male jogger running counter as I kept on looking around me while I jog.As I near Palma Hall, rush of memories flash back. I remembered my freshman year where I used to get off from my father's car on this very same spot. I remembered taking the stairs at the entrance at the Faculty Center side carrying my incredibly thick (

Jogging Revelry
2008-04-04 20:56:07
On March 26, 2008, the academic oval (Osmena and Roxas Aves.) of the University of the Philippines became a one-way street going counter clockwise. The oval streets are now divided into two lanes. The inner lane, about 1/3 of the whole width of the road, is off-limits to vehicles. For the past months, on Sundays and Saturdays, the oval is closed to vehicular traffic. Such hassle, I said to myself. Why the scheme?Well, at 4:30 pm the oval's inner lane starts to fill up with joggers, runners, bikers, walkers, and lovers. You can see people running clockwise on the oval, others, counter clockwise. Some are serious runners. They even wear their running clubs' uniforms. Others are jogging as warm-up for their varsity training. Most are combining jogging-walking to lose weight. How did I know

Crash!
2008-04-03 21:48:53
Panic Mode! My cpu crashed! Files corrupted! My files eaten, deleted, trashed! Right now I'm just using my son's laptop. Later, when he wakes up, I will be forced to abandon my post and give up the laptop. What to do? I already took my cpu to my bro-in-law for repairs. He is not a technician but a mechanical engineer with an obsession for fixing anything that runs on electricity and battery. For the meantime, I hope my son wakes up later than usual.

Hoo-Ha 2
2008-04-02 18:51:30
I left.To continue, the cashier department called the room to harass us to pay the additional 5,000 Php.Daughter # 3 answered the call and she basically said the same thing. Send someone up if you want to get paid.As there was no "someone" to send up for the additional down payment ( why didn't they ask for a 10,000 php initial deposit in the first place), the cashier asked the station nurse to do the errand. In the time span that the nurse was moonlighting in the accounts department, woe to those patients who could have called for nursing assistance.I never got the chance to see the event conclude. I have decided to leave when I found out that the patient was being charged for the towels and comforter that were issued to her.

Blog Itch
2008-04-07 00:31:29
My cpu is still broken, I think it will have to be reformatted. Shucks! My files are all gone. I will not be able to go blog hopping. Fellow bloggers, pardon my not visiting your sites. My kids are all hugging their laptops to death. It is now 6:20 pm. I'm in my son's bedroom tweaking his laptop while he is outside doing his thing with his skateboard. He thinks I'm cooking dinner. To heck with dinner. I am just itching to check my emails and blogs. It is not the same though. I miss my blogging spot at the basement. I miss the quiet and solitude of the space. I cleaned my computer spot a while back. Gosh, the dust is almost a millimeter thick in the hard to reach places under my cpu. Bloggers, better check under your tables and chairs. Ickabod Crane might be asleep there!Blogging really take

Friendship and Me
2008-04-07 00:31:07
When I was quite young, If I joined a popularity contest, I would surely have lost. At first glance, I am not very likeable. Girls hate me. They hang on to their boyfriends with their sharp claws. I don't know why but I seem to be a threat to them. Some say I have this very confident-assured-aura in me. They say it shows in the way I walk, talk, write, umm.... probably, my essence. Well, is that a fault?I am a no non-sense, no suck-up girl. I do not play nicey-girley-smiley-sweety games. I play straight and fair. I talk straight and direct sometimes to the point of ferociousness: Karinyo Brutal, roughly translated as brutal caring.Anyway, I cannot easily say I have plenty of friends for I do not. Oh I have tons of acquiantances but only a handful of real close friends. The youngest friend

Missing Money
2008-04-07 00:30:45
Do you sometimes feel that you're missing something but you're not really sure if indeed you lost something?Such was predicament last night. As I was rummaging through my wallet, I thought that I was missing 500 Php. I think. No, I don't remember spending any as I did not go out of the house. The delivery made by Wendy's was paid by hubby. Oh well, maybe I just thought I had 2-500 php in my wallet.I went to daughter #3's bedroom. Ethan was there watching TV in his jammies. Hey Ethan, I said. Where's the 20 php I gave you this afternoon? Nowhere, he said. I told my daughter that I was missing 500 php and I jokingly said that maybe it's in Ethan's coin purse. We both laughed and I playfully unzipped the coin purse to check the 20 php I gave Ethan.Lo and behold. Guess what I found? My 500 php

The Sound of Music
2008-04-06 05:14:05
I could not believe it! One of my favorite movies is being shown at Star Movies. Of course I have watched this movies countless times before but I just can't help it. Every time I hear the orchestra build up to the strains of Maria singing the hills are alive to the sound of music............I am hooked! The Sound of Music was released on March 29, 1965. I was 8 years and 18 days old then. Julie Andrews was 30 years old and Captain Von Trapp aka Chrisropher Plummer was 36. I was such a fan. I knew and still do know all the songs of the Musical. My favorite songs are, wait, all! My favorite parts are when the seven kids were entertaining the baroness by singing then the ever regal Captain heard the singing and joined in. I used to imagine myself singing solo then suddenly my papa would be so

Duckpins Anyone?
2008-04-05 06:02:12
The pins perfectly lined upThe mechanical area back of the alleysThe Alumni Center was the newest edifice at UP back in the 70's. The venue has a duckpin bowling alley and billiard tables for the use of fun-seekers like me. I became quite adept at playing duckpins and billiards back then. My best buddy Helen also became a billiard queen much to the consternation of her brother who was also a fixture at the Alumni Center.A few days ago, I went to the Alumni Center to check the place out. The Alumni Center is not to be confused with the Bahay ng Alumni. The center has a full-pledged restaurant now available for functions and catering. The alley was a sorry state though. The alley is still manual; meaning the pins and balls are taken care of by a person located at the back of the pin area. The

Whodunnit?
2008-04-08 08:16:54
I left the house at 9:30 am today to take the dentist to her residency duty somewhere in Quezon city. With me were my son and Ethan. Since the dentist will only take an hour to finish her rounds, we (son, Ethan and I) decided to leave her at the hospital and eat an early lunch at Burger King near the Quezon City Memorial Circle: the one intersecting Rodriquez Ave., Quezon Ave., and Espana Boulevard. After eating, I decided to order take-out for the dentist. I got out of the joint's parking area while son and grandson were happily eating their sundaes. I then proceeded to the rotonda to make my u-turn. Crap! The circle is all blocked up. No more circling the rotonda to go Eastward of Quezon Ave. Okay. I'll just proceed along Espana Boulevard and hope to make a u-turn in one of the intersec

Mouse Murder
2008-04-07 19:40:51
No, that's not Ratatouille. That was a mouse I saw running across my dining room. I threw my right pair lavander and pink crocs slipper at it to scare it away. I did not mean to kill it, but I did anyway. Marksman, that's me.Picking up the dead mouse freaked all my kids. They are all so namby-pamby! Ethan got mad at me. He said, mom! you killed Ratatouille!

Walking Spree

What a peaceful way to spend a lazy afternoon! Walking a long a tree-shaded lane with nary a care at that moment. Walking is good for you. It need not be brisk to make it aerobic; just walk at a leisurely pace. Clear your thoughts. Breathe in good ideas, exhale the bad ones.See my humongous bag? When walking or jogging, remember to bring money just in case you or your companion gets thirsty or too tired to continue.Ethan posing at the bike and jogging lane at the UP academic oval. The tree shaded lane proved to be a free and popular spot for health conscious walkers, joggers and bikers.

"Stolen"Pictures
2008-04-11 09:12:34
With my picture file still missing, I thought of using my son's laptop to scour for pictures. At this very moment 5:20 pm, my son is not home.Look what I found. This is Zoro. He is often seen traipsing about UP Diliman in his cape and mask. He is harmless. He just wants to be IN the middle of every activity in the campus. Some say Zoro was a Math major who went berserk. Umm.. due to the perplexing nature of Math?WADDAA??? What the heck? Who is the girl? I recognize the dorm's reception hall though.Figure this out. I think they are lying on the floor, wearing costumes. My son is the one in the green "thing". Oh I get it! He and his friend ( in the blue "thing" ) are tetris blocks.Ethan? Isdachu?Oh well. That's it. Enough intruding.

Michael Johns Out of AI-7
2008-04-11 09:10:26
Michael Johns is out! But-but-but why? He is a real good singer with his own style. He looks good and sounds good! This further proves that the voting populace of good ol' US of A choose by popularity, not by talent.Remember when Bo Bice was kicked out in AI4 with Carrie Underwood emerging as winner? That was a shocker. What about the time when Taylor Hicks won in AI5 against Katherine McPhee? That was a double shocker.Johns sang Dream on and the ever mighty Simon thought it was a very good performance. Jason should have been the one voted out. However, due to his cuteness, maybe next week?Good bye Michael Johns. Luck be with you.

It is Friday , again. Where did the rest of the week go? I have not done anything of consequence! I have my computer back but all my files are gone. No word documents. No pictures. No music. Nothing!I have to take my cpu back to Joel. He said all my files are intact. Umm... but where? Just found out that there's no Office set up too! Is it TGIF for me? I don't think so. It's more like IFGAIHNDAC... acronym for: It's Friday again and I have not done anything concrete!I would have inserted a picture here but, I still have to locate my picture file.

Math Agony
2008-04-10 04:19:59
I have a been in a state of agitation and stress for the past four weeks. Before Holy Week came, my son had informed me that he was failing in Math 17. Why? You were fine the first two months of the second semester. Well, things happen, he said. Yes. More like, I haven't been studying? Before the finals, I was constantly breathing down his neck for him to study. His teacher said he needs to perfect the take-home exams ( which I swear, is highly impossible for mere mortals like us to do) and get at least 66% in his finals. My son did not reach the limits but got a 4 instead. A grade of 4 entitles a student for removal exams. A student has a year to take his removals.Oh no! You will not dilly-dally with your removal exams. Ask your teacher when and where is the removals: April 9, 3:00 pm-5:00

Oprah Church Exposed ?
2008-04-12 09:31:05
I bet you have heard or watched in YouTube the Oprah Church . It is not actually a physical church where believers congregate to worship, rather the beliefs that Oprah, with the help of Eckhart, are propagating.I read that these are the core beliefs.1. Who you are requires no belief.2. Heaven is not a location but refers to the inner realm of consciousness.3. The man on the cross is an archetypal image. He is everyman and every woman. The teachings are:1. My mind is part of God's. I am very holy.2. My holiness is my salvation.3. My salvation comes from me.4. Let me remember that there is no sin.5. Do not make the pathetic error of clinging to the "old rugged cross".6. The only message of the crucifixion is that you can overcome the cross.Wow! Years ago, Oprah even denied that Jesus is the o

Gas at $1.20 per Gallon
2008-04-14 06:15:54
Ten ago, the price of premium gasoline was at 10.00 Php per liter. If I fill up my tank 100.00 Php of gas, that's 10 liters, was more than enough for me to consume in two days. Long drives then were not a problem. I was more than willing to take my children, my mother, my mother-in-law, my friends, my friends' kids , anywhere. Gas was cheap! Not now! Gosh! Gas is Gold! Diesel used to cost 7.00 Php per liter. Today, it's 40.15Php. Why? Why does the gas price keep 0n increasing? A neighbor of mine recently came home from the Middle East. He works in one of the leading oil producers in that region. He said, he too is baffled as to why gas price keeps on hiking whereas oil producers have not upped their prices. He said gas is 30 cents per liter in the Middle East: that's $1.20 per gallon: that
