All My Children and Other Soaps Available Online 1970-01-01 00:59:59 I've never made a big deal out of not watching tv over the past 9 years, but it has come up in conversations with other parents, online in comments or someone at the office when they find out I've never seen a single version of Lost, Desperate Housewives or Gray's Anatomy. One thing about having the internet available to us however, is the fact that you don't even have to watch tv to know what is going on in tv land, know who todays stars are, and/or what the story lines are. It's all in the entertainment news, entertainment blogs, websites and message boards devoted to tv shows and of course magazine sites. Hello? I know Dr. Dreamy's entire lifestory but I've never once watched him on television. So that leads me to soap operas. One of the things that is funny about not watching soap opera's for a few years is how much changes but how much stays the same. When I saw the website for All My Children

I Wish I Had Something Exciting To Tell Ya.... 1970-01-01 00:59:59 I got re-measured at Victoria's Secret yesterday and I'm a 36 D, is that interesting? Well, I thought so! I thought I was a 36 C but apparently this stressful office job not only put 10 lbs. on my butt and thighs but some of it went to my boobs. (Well, I knew that actually because only 2 of my bra's have fit lately.) I caved and bought a 36D yesteday. Egads! I have never in my life spent $42.50 on a bra before yesterday. I'm still a sick to my stomach thinking about it! I hope this extra 10 lbs. comes back off once I'm finally finished at my current job... and with it of course comes the extra boobage too, so I'll be back in my normal C's soon.... I hope.Ok - well, I have no idea how I ended up talking about 'the girls' when I really was just going to tell you that I found some work clothes yesterday. Although I tried to find something at Ann Taylor and the Loft, and even attempted at the Limited Express... it just didn't happen. I couldn't spend $108 on on
If I hadn't already submitted my resignation I would be putting it in tomorrow! 1970-01-01 00:59:59 This weekend I was looking up the CEO of the company I want to interview with next week and on a whim, wondered if the CEO would do the same with my name from my resume so I googled myself to see what would come up. I had the normal hits I would expect (work related) but was surprised to see my current boss has been busy. Apparently going behind my back and doing three more of 'my' jobs... jobs I was prepared to do Monday morning as scheduled. The thing that chaps my hide (I've never in my life said that before!!!) is that we discussed these things last week and I had no idea the boss-person was going to do them behind my back.... and without even mentioning to me they were done! You know I try to avoid details about work here lest I find myself dooced... but I can and will share with you that this was the last straw. I was so angry and frustrated with the lack of communication and respect that I swore to myself that had I not already put in my resignation it would be going in Read more:submitted

Mondo Bongo... An intoxicating Song 1970-01-01 00:59:59 If my laptop (notebook) was white this photo would be just about right.... yes, I am thankfully and happily in bed, sweet bed.... with a headache the size of mt. rushmore from finishing our federal and state taxes. Let me just say that federal is and was a BREEZE. No problem, 2 hours start to finish including printing the forms and e-filing. State taxes however... OMG. Since when do you have to know how much your vehicle WEIGHS in order to figure out the percentage of the annual registration that is deductible!? I swear Iowa is by far the stupidest state I've lived in over the past 20 years. Other Junk: I'm incredibly hooked on the song "Mondo Bongo
" (don't watch that particular version if you have kiddos in the room as it's a clip put together on YouTube) from the Mr. & Mrs. Smith Soundtrack. Today it was just Coffeekid and I home, and he was in the basement. I took a break from multi-tasking (doing our taxes, laundry, getting dinner in the oven and doing a load of
Should I Post If I'm Grumpy? 1970-01-01 00:59:59 I've been sipping coffee and reading the news.... and I just get so grumpy at the stupidity of people today. The feeling that 'nothing' as anyone's fault. Everything (literally!) is someone elses' fault these days. Where is personal responsibility? Where is accepting the facts that accidents DO happen and that there doesn't have to be someone jailed or sued for every accident in life. We can medicate ourselves through life. Every little time you feel sad or depressed doesn't mean you need to take a pill. Humans are not made to be happy 24/7. It's not human nature. What about addictions? Why is that my problem? Or your workplace problem? It's not. It's yours. If someone gives you a party drug (like ectasy) at a party and you choose to take it, that is your choice. If you get sick or die, and no one forced you to take it? Your fault. You get drunk at a bar and drive home and you get in an accident and lose a leg? Not the bar owners fault for serving you! YOUR f
Our Ghostie Might Be Female... or 'He' has a Friend 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Some time early this morning while laying in bed I was awakened by a womans voice. I don't know what she said but it was a young woman and her voice was clear and loud as if she was in the bedroom with us. I'm a light sleeper at any time, but it's not difficult to be awakened by a womans voice in your bedroom when it's only you and your husband there and the door is closed and it's the middle of the night.I laid there and thought about it. I questioned that I heard anything at all. I questioned if perhaps it could somehow be one of our daughters. The voice didn't match either, it was too old to be one of them and the other one sleeps on the other side of the house in her room, with at least 1 closed door between us. As I dismissed it and turned over to try to go to sleep again, she spoke again. It was brief and took me by surprise so I still don't know what she said. I wondered why she was speaking to me and then I fell back to sleep for just a bit. When I woke I fe Read more:Female

Rockstartup.com and reality tv internet style... for geeks like me 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Even though I don't watch tv it's not like I'm living in a cave. I do know that reality
tv shows are way hot right now. As a matter of fact I'm rather proud to admit that I was a fan (huge fan) of the original that launched the craze; "Real World" - New York. Becky, Norman, Julie... dude, I lived, breathed and ate that show. I thought it was the coolest thing since sliced cheese! Apparently so did the rest of the world because here we are like, what? Fourteen years later? Realty shows are hotter than ever. One difference though is that they have now gone the way of internet. That's good for geeks like me who prefer email to phone calls and building webpages to watching Gray's Anatomy. So here is reality tv on the web. It's Rockstartup and is a crazy ride that shows the ups and downs of launching a web 2.0 company.A little background can be found here. It's one of my fav's only because you all know how much I love to 'move' and I love 'new digs'. YES!!!!!!!! ONE SMALL STEP TO STOP THE MONEY GODS! 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Merck suspends lobbying for vaccineTRENTON, N.J. - Pediatricians, gynecologists and even health insurers all call Gardasil, the first vaccine to prevent cervical cancer, a big medical advance. But medical groups, politicians and parents began rebelling after disclosure of a behind-the-scenes lobbying campaign by Gardasil's maker, Merck & Co., to get state legislatures to require 11- and 12-year-old girls to get the three-dose vaccine as a requirement for school attendance. Some parents' groups and doctors particularly objected because the vaccine protects against a sexually transmitted disease, human papilloma virus, which causes cervical cancer. Vaccines mandated for school attendance usually are for diseases easily spread through casual contact, such as measles and mumps.Bowing to pressure, Merck said Tuesday that it is immediately suspending its controversial campaign, which it had funded through a third party."Our goal is about cervical cancer prevention, and we want to re Read more:ONE SMALL STEP
Gulping... errr... I mean 'sipping' coffee, yeah, that's it..... 1970-01-01 00:59:59 This week it's been a bit of "fly-by" posting whenever I had a bit of time. Our crazy schedule coupled with a computer that was downloading every update known to man in the last millenium made for either no time or no internet connection fast enough to get a page to load. This photo shows what I see a lot of these days... BabyGirl's back as she walks out the door. Our days have been starting at 6:30 (not that we get up then.... of course I'm up by about 5:30 (or 3:00???). I mean our schedules literally have been starting at 6:30 am with places to be, things to do and people to see) and ending around 10:00 pm. Last night BabyGirl returned home from Show Choir practice around 9:50 pm and sat on my bed and we talked about everything and nothing for about 15 minutes. She was so incredibly happy and ... free. This week is 'State Wrestling' which means an incredibly crazy hectic l o n g schedule but by next week we should be seeing more of her. There have been some interesting
Way Back Wednesday: It's a mad, mad, mad, mad world... 1970-01-01 00:59:59 TWK says: It's a mad, mad world. Old photos where someone looks pissed off! Well... I just found this one on my computer yesterday and sent it to my brother serving in Iraq. He's currently pissed off he is still there. He was supposed to come home in April but his unit is the one that 'gets' to stay until August now. A couple more months of dodging road side bombs and getting shot at. No, I'm not being dramatic, this really is what his unit is doing there. He's not one of the units with a cushy job over there.So... I give you my version of a MAD MAD WORLD. Because he truly WAS pissed off at me when I took this. Here is my 'baby' brother about 2 1/2 years oldlooking in his dresser for clothes to get dressed for the dayHe's 27 now and a Sergeant in Iraq. What kind of a stupid world do we live in? 1970-01-01 00:59:59 I was using the 'f' word a lot after I read this and then re-told it to my husband but I'll spare you the use of profanities and just post this for you....OCONOMOWOC, Wis. - A man says he broke into an apartment with a cavalry sword because he thought he heard a woman being raped, but the sound actually was from a pornographic movie his upstairs neighbor was watching."Now I feel stupid," said James Van Iveren, who has been charged in the case. "This really is nothing, nothing but a mistake."According to a criminal complaint, the neighbor told police that Van Iveren pounded on the door and kicked it open without warning Feb. 12, damaging the frame and lock."Where is she?" Van Iveren demanded, thrusting the sword at the neighbor, the complaint said. "Where is she?"The neighbor told police Van Iveren became increasingly aggressive as he repeated the question, insisting that he had heard a woman being raped. The complaint said that, with the sword pointed at him, the neighbor led Van Iv
Top O'The Morning to Ya! 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Coffee: Highlander Grogg (compliments of the Iowa Geeks who sent it to me for Christmas)Yesterday the Gray Suits did 2nd interviews with two people to fill my position. I fully expect to go to work today and find out that they made their decision, offered it to her and she starts Monday. One of them can't start for 2 more weeks but I think they liked the other one better and she can start immediately. We'll see if they remember to tell me anything at all.One of the shocks at work was coming in on Tuesday morning to find out someone had been... well... I guess the official thing they have been informed to say is; "She no longer works here." I said goodbye on Thursday afternoon and boom! Tuesday morning someone else is sitting at her desk. I still can't get used to the way they do that! Three times now that's happened to me. Someone else has to box up their stuff and clear their desk, etc. they aren't allowed to even enter the room after the ax has fallen. I guess it Read more:Morning
Let's Talk Lights 1970-01-01 00:59:59 I'm sitting at the island 'bar' in the kitchen and because the regular kitchen lights are far too bright I have on a tiny little mini lamp on the side counter. Why don't I turn on the island lights above me? The really cool stainless steel triple island lights? Or maybe the lights like these?Well, because... we don't have any!!!When we moved into this house it was new construction and at the 'final walk through' stage. There are only a couple regrets that we have, but one is that we don't have island lights. Not only because they look cool, but because the regular kitchen lights are so bright and we don't always want to have the whole kitchen lit up.I was looking at someone's blog earlier this week (I'm sorry 'you' I can't remember who you were) but they had installed the omg coolest bathroom sink and counter and were picking out things like Bathroom Lights
and stuff. I admit. I was more than a little jealous.I haven't thrown out the idea of installing an island
Well HELLO! Come on In! 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Hello! Hi! Hey! You over there! Come on in! Hellooooo! Welcome!Bring a friend!Tonight after dinner we had the strangest thing happen!!Are you ready?BabyGirl left for the mall with friends. Coffeekid left to stay overnight at a friends. Coffeegirl left to stay overnight at a friends. Coffeehusband left to go out for a drink with a friend. What did that leave?IT LEFT ME!ME! ALL BY MYSELF!I looked at my husband with my eyes wide and my mouth open.... I may have even gasped. "But... that leaves me by myself! OMG! What AM I going to do? The possibilities are ENDLESS!"So first I waved to everyone leaving from the front door and after I did a happy dance I made a cappuccino. Then I decided to do a payperpost blog entry (I know, I know, but I'm here to try to make twelve cents a day on ads and crap, remember?) and then my friend called to say 'hey' and see what I was doing tomorrow... and then? Well, here I am! Blogging about how I'm ALONE and don't know what to DO about it.
Taxes, Debt and Credit Cards 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Earlier this week I finally found made the time to sit down and actually do our taxes. I knew we would most likely be getting a return and still couldn't find the time to MAKE myself sit down and do them. But... I did and it's done and now we just have to wait for the return to hit our account and I'll transfer it to our savings account. For the first time ever in our marriage we actually have a savings account. It's a tiny itty bitty thing, but we have one, for which I'm thankful. For years I was a SAHM (stay-at-home-mom) and we were living on what would average out to be about 40K a year throughout that time with 3 kids, 2 cars and a mortgage. Needless to say at times money wasn't just tight... it was non-existent! It wasn't sitting down to pay 'the' bills, it was sitting down to decide 'which' bills to pay and which could wait until the next month. Ouch. During those years there are a few years that I will admit that all formula, diaper and groceries went on the cre Read more:Taxes

Googling Our French Visitor 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Regular readers of the Coffee Talk will remember we have a French
student coming to stay with us the first part of April. We know little to nothing about them other than a 1 page questionaire they filled out in their own school/class and we have a copy of it their teacher emailed our French teacher. There were 4 students that needed a host home yet when we were approached and I said 'oui' so my oldest daughter looked at the four papers with little 1 inch photos at the top, and that is how we got "Samy" who will be our 'cousin from France' visiting in April. Leave it to my daughter to pick the teenage guy with long hair, skull t-shirt and interest in guitar and skating. Although he should fit right in, seeing as he is just 8 months older than my son, Coffeekid, and he will be happy to see four guitars hanging on the wall in the basement family room.Since the information page is in French I have to pick and choose what I can understand. I Remember the Feeling 1970-01-01 00:59:59 There is a guy from a city 3 hours away that BabyGirl and Best friend have been crushing on since they first spied him about 6 weeks ago when he video taped the wrestling meet when his school played ours. I heard all about this guy that night. His very tall hot body. His long hair. His Heath Ledger jaw. Apparently he was perfect eye-candy. Unfortunately it seem all the cheerleaders from every town and city in the state felt the same way. The poor guy was constantly surrounded by giggling nit-wit 5 foot tall bumbling, eye-lash batting bimbo's. BabyGirl said it looked as if he was trying to avoid them and getting pissed because he couldn't film the meet with all these little short, perky pests around him. She, being un-perky and un-pesty never approached but only oogled from afar.Imagine the breath taking surprise BabyGirl had to see him at the State Wrestling Tournament today. Yes, among 90,000 bodies she managed to spy him. A fellow cheerleader took it upon herself to appr Read more:Remember

Ice Ice Baby 1970-01-01 00:59:59 For those not in this part of the world you would think you are looking at rain. A rainy deck. Mmm ok. No! You are looking at ice. Pure freakin' ice baby. And I've already had to drive on it this morning. Good thing most people were still at home huddled under their blankets in bed AND good thing that we have 'no parking' signs throughout the side streets of the neighborhood because otherwise it would have been a crash-and-go kind of morning.I had to take BestFriend home this morning to get ready for cheerleading (she spent the night last night as her first-ever-boyfriend broke up with her by text yesterday. BY TEXT! Yeah, he has no balls.) So BabyGirl brought her to our home and fed her lots of chocolate and pizza. She was much better by midnight. This morning I told BabyGirl I would bring Bestfriend home as it looked icey out. I had NO idea. I put inched my way out of the drive and backed slowly down the drive. I always like to 'test' how the streets are slamming Read more:Ice Ice

Little Miss Sunshine is back with The Ultimate Gift 1970-01-01 00:59:59 "Little Miss
Sunshine" won the top prize at the Spirit Awards, the art world's equivalent of the Oscar's. The 10 year star of the screenplay is Abigail Breslin, who already has another movie coming out that seems to be making waves even before it's release."The Ultimate
Gift" is a movie not only starring the young 'up and coming' Abigail Breslin, but also a favorite of mine, James Garner. The movie is based on the book of the same name that has been an underground hit around the world and sold 4 million copies, "The Ultimate Gift" movie, like the book, is based on the message: "The only way you can truly get more out of life for yourself is to give part of yourself away"The official release date of the movie is March 9th but more than 300 pre-screenings of the movie already resulted in over $5,000,000 in donations to charities and schools have already been incorporating the message of the movie into their curriculums. There is a initiative by teenagers that was started (ww Read more:Little Miss Sunshine
Good Morning! 1970-01-01 00:59:59 DisclaimerYou know what is stupid? When the weather is doing strange things (like it is this weekend) I find it very difficult to write about anything... but the weather! I sit here at the laptop at the island in the kitchen and I intend on writing about a number of different topics, but instead I find myself staring outside and wanting to write about the weather! I hate to read about the weather on other peoples blogs... but here I am doing the same darn thing!Actually I've tried to get some cool photos and even video this morning, but when I look at the pictures and video afterwards it just doesn't capture the moment like I want it to. The city trucks did a quick pass through the cul-de-sac and we have literally 5 foot mounds of snow blocking our driveways (I have NO idea how Coffeehusband is going to handle those with our tiny little microscopic snow thrower) but the pictures don't do it justice. The videos didn't capture it the way I see it from the windows either... so I Read more:Morning

What a Beautiful Mess We're In 1970-01-01 00:59:59 This post is mostly "progression" photos of the last 12 hourswill take a break and come back to post anothermorning 'coffee talk' post for thosewho don't care about ice and snow(like me)Coffee: Really STRONG Folger's GourmetMug: Tall Starbucks (favorite)It's a beautiful mess out there... a full half inch of ice covering everything with almost a foot of snow on top of it. Only beautiful to me because I don't plan on going out into it, and because we still have electricity and heat. Either of those things change and I won't think it beautiful anymore!(Sam Adams watches the ice storm last night)I had posted a photo of the grill yesterday with ice cicles hanging off of it. Just for comparison I took another last night when we had a full half inch of pure ice covering literally everything outside and then this morning (12 hours later) to show the progression of snow that is now covering the ice. Something Growling This Way Comes.... 1970-01-01 00:59:59 In our current house we don't seem to have too many strange occurences. Then again, maybe one a month is a lot to some people. I don't know. It's nothing major and usually it's just strange whistling or voices. The room that gets the most bumps and thumps would be my 16 year olds room. Again, nothing major and most of the time we just ignore it. From the time we moved in BabyGirls room has had unexplained banging from one of the walls. It's an outside wall on the 2nd floor and it's a new subdivision so there are no mature trees (no trees over 6 feet tall for blocks around us!). There are no tree's or bushes on that side of the house at all, yet at least once a week you can hear banging and thumping on her bedroom wall. Also, BabyGirl has grown so accustomed to her computer turning itself on in the middle of the night she doesn't even hardly pay attention to it anymore. It happens about 2 or 3 times a week and yet her computer isn't 'scheduled' for any scans or anythi

The First Gigantic Invisible Crash 1970-01-01 00:59:59 We were living in a home in a suburb of Minneapolis, MN when the first 'huge invisible crash' happened. It was night time and we were upstairs sleeping. We had three small children at the time, all under the age of six and they were all in bed asleep. From the main floor below us we heard a huge CRASH and an enormous amount of glass breaking. As the inital crash and glass breakage died out the sound of the last remanents of glass tinkling and falling and smashing finally died out. We rushed down the stairs, me saying "I just know it was the big picture window, I just know it!" But it wasn't! The picture window in the family room was intact. As was the living room windows, the dining room patio door and every other window in the house! We searched high and low looking for anything that had fallen and broke but we found nothing. Absolutely nothing. I would like to have blamed it on ice falling off the roof or something else similar but it was May and there was no ice. We Read more:First
