Looking for quilts like these.....
2008-02-24 14:37:13
I have recently embarked upon a new project; I'm searching for the origin of a particular quilt pattern. The quilts are appliqued with two different blocks (sometimes with a third one in the center). All of them use the same two together, combining elements of the fleur-de-lis block with snowflake and Rose of Sharon elements. I've uploaded pictures of three of these quilts, Find more photos like this on I Antique Online If anyone knows of any more, and knows anything of their origins, I would love to hear about it. Fresh Face in the Industry
2008-01-25 09:30:13
My love of antiques started at a young age. I grew up in a home filled with them, and with a family who incorporated frequent trips to antique shows and markets into our routine. Now, at 26, I have entered the antique realm professionally and find it a great fit for me. Not everyone my age is interested in antiques, but I think they can work for everyone, especially the younger generations. With high storefront overhead where I live in New York City, I started my own on-line antiques store where I sell furniture and accessories. I see the trend moving to Internet sales and that it is a platform many younger buyers are very familiar with. We have mastered the use of search engines and can pretty much find anything we’re looking for. Well, antiques are no different. I find it fascinating

Politics and Antiques
2008-01-21 15:50:51
First off, I'm an independant, and can't decide on any candidate at the moment for President. Regardless, in the business it seems that most of the Antiques found out there are in the hands of Republicans. The response from advertising on Conservative Republican Radio talk shows have gained us the best audience when it coming to purchasing product from people for resale. I believe its the Republican mentality that keeps their family heirlooms a part of their lives so long. On the flip side, of those I've talked to in the Antiques business, the lions share of dealers are Democrat or Independant mainly because of their capitolistic nature. Of course there are exceptions to the rule. Anyone see a trend like this or am I just blowing smoke?

Hummels and the current market?
2007-12-23 06:49:10
Hummels. Quite possibly one of the most easiest types of items to post online and great for a Store inventory. Yet the market has slumped to Pit of Vipers lows. How can we honestly tell someone who has purchased a hummel price guide that they're only going to get 10-20% of the book value? We usually end up turning the computer screen right to the person in disbelief and showing them how bad the market is and how overinflated the Book Value is. We end up making excuses about their hummels. "Book Value means New In Box" "This has a little crazing so it's not going to sell well." Just want to get an idea from anyone out there how they might do things differently to maybe get closer to half of book value. Or possibly a way to complain to the makers of the price guide to tell them they are way

I will just jump right in and start with the amazing alternative health successes I have experienced…
2008-03-25 16:29:25
I will just jump right in and start with the amazing alternative health successes I have experienced since my new awaking in the 1980’s. Now remember I mentioned in the last blog my Grandma June and the inspiring influence she and on me as a child. She raised me in a healthy environment and fed me a very healthy diet as a child. I believe that her convictions were instilled in me at an early age and I have been chosen to carry on the torch of helping people to create their own healthy lifestyle. The 80’s began for me with a fresh awareness of the fight for incorporating a healthy lifestyle into my life. My mental health awareness was awakened to a new level of being. In the late 70’s I was so health conscience that I was making my own bread, mayonnaise and soy bean loaves. But somew

Antique Table Lamps
2008-04-09 19:10:51
Antique table lamps come in many styles, values and sizes. The deco period, around 1920, seem to be the most sought after. However, there are also many reproductions of those same styles. I find that an original chord, being two pronged and preferably silk around the outside, is a good sign of an original lamp. Next, check the shade. There should be age and patina along the inside and the glass will always be glass, not plastic. Any other tips?

The easily sculpted, translucent solid used to make porcelain dolls is generally referred to as china or bisque. Collectible porcelain dolls with glazed faces are termed "china," whereas dolls with a soft, unglazed finish that appears more like natural skin are termed "bisque." Any other information about dolls is welcome here.

Antique Paintings
2008-04-09 18:51:29
Original artwork, especially antique paintings are holding their value and are a good item to know about. We find that there are several criteria to evaluating an antique painting. First, is it a quality piece? Is it something that draws you to it when you first see it? Second, is it signed? Third, is it in the original frame? Fourth, does it look untouched from the back? What do you look for when examining an antique painting?

Highwaymen Paintings Unknown Artists
2008-04-11 11:27:40
This is what we know already: The Highwaymen artists are/were a collection of African American artists from Fort Pierce, Florida who painted vivid landscapes and Florida scenes. They painted from the 1950's to the 1970's and their works were sold commercially in galleries but mostly from the trunks of cars to passing motorists. These artists were masters at capturing Florida sunrises and sunsets. The question is are there other artists out there other than those listed in many websites. We got a few Carribean Style paintings, and we don't believe its hatian art.
