Actual Product...Grape Flavored Apples!
1970-01-01 00:59:59
clipped from They say “An apple a day keeps the doctor away” so I wonder what this keeps away, the Grapple, an apple that tastes like grapes. The Grapple is made by adding flavourings to a regular Washington Extra Fancy Fuji Apple, the process uses some “complex” infusion technique and adds no additional sugars or calories. Grape flavoured apples should be in the shops soon (hopefully easier to find than Guinness Marmite) so next time your kids say they don’t like apples you’ve got an answer.Grapple via Funniest Gadgets.feed

Pigeon Mind Control?
1970-01-01 00:59:59
clipped from www.gearlog.com Scientists have become the ultimate back-seat drivers when it comes to pigeon road trips. Chinese scientists have figured out how to control the flight of pigeons with microelectrodes planted in the bird's brains. By mimicking the natural signals in the pigeon's brains, the scientists were able to force the birds to fly left, ride, up and down while the electrode signals were altered through a computer.Does this mean carrier pigeons may soon come back in style? Will governments create WMD's (Weapons of Minor Disturbance) through controlled pigeon dropping raids? The scientists are currently engaged in refining the technology and hope to put it to use in the future. However, time will tell if this new generation of bird will be used for the benefit of mankind or for more sinister purposes. [via Earth Times]Post by Andre Bermudez feed

Too Much Self Esteem?
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Recent study shows current college age students were "over-Barney-ed" when they were young.Study finds alarming rise in narcissism, self-centeredness in ‘Generation Me’NEW YORK - Today’s college students are more narcissistic and self-centered than their predecessors, according to a comprehensive new study by five psychologists who worry that the trend could be harmful to personal relationships and American society.“We need to stop endlessly repeating ‘You’re special’ and having children repeat that back,” said the study’s lead author, Professor Jean Twenge of San Diego State University. “Kids are self-centered enough already.”Twenge and her colleagues, in findings to be presented at a workshop Tuesday in San Diego on the generation gap, examined the responses of 16,475 college students nationwide who completed an evaluation called the Narcissistic Personality Inventory between 1982 and 2006.The standardized inventory, known as the NPI, asks for responses to such

Why Are We LATE so often?
2007-03-02 21:48:00
clipped from www.mentalfloss.com In other exciting Peruvian news, Peruvian president Alan Garcia has declared March the month when punctuality will sweep the nation:“(We must) stop this horrible, pitiful, disastrous custom of failing to be punctual,” he intoned in a speech, inveighing against the $5 billion in annual economic damage caused, he said, by being late.Tallying tardiness, he said Peruvians as a whole were annually late by 3 billion hours. That works out to over 107 hours of tardiness for every man, woman and child.Maybe it’s time to consider the psychological reasons for tardiness. WebMD lets us in on Julie Morganstern’s theories, culled from Time Management From the Inside Out: “If you are literally always 10 minutes late, it’s psychological,” Morgenstern says. “You’re arriving exactly when you want. The question is ‘why?’” Sapadin says the answer depends on your personality type. “For some people, it’s a resistance thing,” she tells WebMD.

Serious Moment...Chesterton Quote
2007-03-02 21:36:00
"For human beings, being children, have the childish willfulness and the childish secrecy. And they never have from the beginning of the world done what the wise men have seen to be inevitable . . . . Individually, men may present a more or less rational appearance, eating, sleeping, and scheming. But humanity as a whole is changeful, mystical, fickle, delightful.Men are men, but Man is a woman."--G.K. Chesterton , The Napoleon of Notting Hillfeed

Oh Come On!

clipped from www.coolest-gadgets.comIf you’re a bit of a radio junkie but also enjoy the odd bout of snorkeling you can now combine the two, with the AQUA FM, a snorkle with a built in radio. The only problem with listening to the radio and not an MP3 is that you’re not in control of the music, I can just imagine swimming when suddenly the Jaws theme comes on making me crap my pants. On a more serious note the other novel technology in the AquaFM is how it transmits the sound to you, instead of using waterproof headphones it uses your teeth:AMPHICOM® products use a dedicated mouthpiece designed to transmit sound by bone conduction. Highly innovative, AMPHICOM®’s active mouthpiece contains built-in electronic actuators that transmit sounds directly through the teeth, bypassing the external ear. Sound quality is outstanding.Further information and availability over on the Amphicom site.feed

Pimp Your Own Peeps!!!
2007-03-08 16:57:00
clipped from Easter marshmallow kit I still have to remind myself to write "2007" on checks and already Easter is looming large. My husband and I normally skip the egg hunt and chocolate-covered marshmallow gorge, but now that we have three beautiful nieces in our lives, we're becoming a lot more holiday-oriented. That's why this Easter marshmallow kit from Williams-Sonoma caught my eye. The kit costs just $24.50 and contains everything non-cooks like me need to whip up some Easter treats: marshmallow mix, bunny and chick molds, pastry bags, and decorations (pink, yellow, and purple sanding sugar and black sugar eyes). Bunny, chick, and butterfly cookie cutters are also included in case one of our nieces cries "trademark infringement" with the Peeps -esque molds. The marshmallows actually don't look like Peeps at all, but the acccusation would still be pretty amazing considering that the girls are 1, 3, and 4 years old.Via I4U News.feed

When Does a Fad Become an Obsession?
2007-03-08 16:38:00
clipped from Need A Cup Of Joe? Text Starbucks! Apparently, Starbucks receives thousands of calls each year from thirsty coffee drinks in search of the nearest coffee spot. Now, the caffeine-craving masses can send a text message with the area's zip code to MYSBUX (or 697289), and a list of nearby Starbucks stores will pop back. Customers using mobile devices with Web access will find a store locater by typing Starbucks.com. I suppose this would excite me more if I were a coffee fan or if I lived in a rural place where coffee shops were few and far between (seriously, there is a Starbucks in my building). As it stands most of the Starbucks cafes I've been to while on the road have looked at me like I was insane when I asked for a nonfat chai with only two pumps. Not to judge, just my experience people. Just my experience. If you're mad, just text them and see if they'll make it for you. It's deliciously light and delightful.feed
