How can I make show/hide links for my posts?
2008-02-26 16:37:00
Note: This article assumes you are using a classic template (without the Layouts features). This is a trick that's particularly useful on blogs with very long posts . What happens is that a reader will only see the titles of your posts at first, so they can skim through and see what they want to read. Then, when they want to read a post, they can click a link to see the full text. The text can then be hidden again when they're done reading. This all happens on one page, so there is no extra navigating to or loading of other pages. You can give it a try here: This is a Long Post Well, okay, it's not really all that long, since I don't have a whole lot to say here. But I ought to put at least a decent paragraph here so you can get an idea of how this will all work. Anybody know any good jok

2008-02-26 14:33:00
I think you have seen "What Next" on many blogs like Problogger and Blogger Buster. As these blogs are hosted on wordpress I thought this to be some wordpress plugin. But its not. It is neither a wordpress plugin nor blogger widget. But its just a blog hack or trick which you can do it in your blog template. What is the benefit of using "What Next" or something alike in blog? It’s essentially a collection of social bookmark links (StumbleUpon, Digg, and del.icio.us), a link to add a comment, and a link to subscribe to your RSS feed. You’ll notice it on every single article and template download on this site at the bottom of the entry. Here’s a screenshot of what it currently looks like:The benefit is if a user wants to subscribe on your post or digg it or Stumble it, he can do it at one

Add Adsense Referral to blogger
2008-02-24 09:00:00
Unlike normal contextual advertisement, in Adsense Referral you can choose which ads you want to display in your blog or website. Thus you can put the referral adsense going with the theme of your site. In blogger.com you can easily put the normal adsense ads with help of blogger widgets. But you cannot add a referral or a search box with these widgets. In this article I will show you how to add an adsense referral to your site while adding a search box is similar to this but still I will show that in another article.Steps to put a referral ad in your blog.1. Earning through Adsense Referrals
2008-02-24 05:28:00
The main difference between the Google Adsense Referral program and their normal advertising program is that you can actively promote and encourage readers to click your referral links. This is because you don’t get paid per click but only when the reader meets the required action. So no one is out of pocket if you encourage your readers to click or label the buttons as recommendations. In fact if you do recommend the product (genuinely) you’ll increase your chances of conversion as you’re really pre-selling the product (and all affiliate or CPA programs work best with some pre-selling). By encouraging users to click the link does not mean that you can put an arrow or put a tag click here right beside the adsense ad. By doing this your adsense account may get terminated. Go

Benefits of Social Bookmarking
2008-02-20 17:16:00
Monitoring social bookmarking services like Del.icio.us, StumbleUpon and Ma.gnolia can help search engines in multiple ways by: Indexing Sites Faster : Humans bookmark sites launched by their friends or colleagues before a search engine bot can find them.Deeper Indexing : Many pages bookmarked are deep into sites and sometimes not as easily linked to by others, found via bad or nonexistent site navigation or linked to from external pages.Measuring Quality : Essentially if more users bookmark a page, the more quality and relevance that site has. Preparing Your Blog for Search Engines- Steps to optimize your blog
2008-02-20 02:10:00
The theory behind optimizing a blog and a regular website are the same, but there are some very distinct differences in setting up the system. So in Today’s post, I will show you the right way to set up and optimize a blog.Initially buy a domain name (Though not important but improves serach engine traffic) Often, when people first set up their blog, they will get the free blog setup (yourblog.wordpress.com or yourblog.blogspot.com), and blog like this. It works hust fine, but by buying a domain name and setting your blog with it and hosting on a paid server will not only change look and feel of your blog but also greatly help in getting listed on search engines. Purchase a domain through godaddy.com. Domain should have the main keyword you are optimizing for somewh

Search Engine Ranking Factors
2008-02-19 14:14:00
Steve Rubel points to a useful resource over at seomoz on Search Engine Ranking Factors which is one of the better descriptions of how Search Engine s rank pages that I’ve seen recently. It lists 93 factors to keep in mind. Sounds like a lot to remember - so luckily they’ve arranged them into different levels of importance (only problem is that on all three of my Mac browsers the symbols that tell what is important or not don’t seem to be working at the moment).

Google Ranking Factors
2008-02-19 14:14:00
I want to give a prize today to one of the most ugly yet useful sites I’ve seen for a while. I hope I don’t cause any offense by saying that - but the prize goes to Google Ranking Factors. Don’t let the ugliness factor put you off because if you scratch a little under it’s spewy color scheme and boxy look you’ll find some very useful information on factors to keep in mind as you think about optimizing your blog for Google. The factors are divided into four sections. 1. Positive On Page SEO Factors - things that you should consider including on your blog/web page2. Negative On Page SEO Factors - things you should avoid including on your blog/web page3. Positive Off Page SEO Factors - factors that you should seek from other web pages that point to your blog4. Negative Off

How Much Is a Blog Post Worth? A Formula?
2008-02-19 14:12:00
Interesting post over at Steve Pavlina’s which takes up the question that How Much Is a Blog Post Worth ? In the post Steve decides that posts on his blog are worth $2400 calculated over a 10 year life span. He calculates this by taking the total earnings of his site and dividing it by the post numbers and then multiplying it by the lifespan of the post. It’s actually an interesting formula and one that I used on my own blogs for the first year or so. The only problem is that after 18-24 months of my own blogging the increase in my own earnings began to slow each month and the post numbers continued to rise at a similar rate. I’m about to run out the door for the morning but I’ll make a few further brief comments on it (note - Steve and I agree on these things and he says

Selling your Blog
2008-02-19 14:11:00
Lorelle has written a comprehensive post (does she write any other kind) on Selling Your Blog: What Are Blog Buyers Looking For? which explores questions like: When is the Right Time to Sell Your Blog? How Much is Your Blog Really Worth?Selling Points for Selling Your Blog I agree with everything she says but would simply add that ultimately a blog is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. There are many factors that different buyers and sellers will use to determine value (Lorelle outlines most of those that I can think of) - but in the end it is like selling anything - it is about demand and supply. I’ve seen some blogs sell in the last year that had selling prices well above what I’d have paid personally for them - however the buyers had their own agendas in mind. At other

Valuing a Blog
2008-02-19 14:10:00
Duff McDonald of Portfolio.com writes a piece on the Valuation of Drudge Report and tries to come up with a valuation based upon three methods (eyeballs, ad value and ‘ask his mother what it’s worth’). Somewhere between it all they value it at between $10M-$20M.

Selling Blogs - Factors of Valuation
2008-02-19 14:08:00
The last couple of weeks have seen some real action in the selling of blogs in the ‘make money online’ part of the blogosphere with the sale of Blogging Fingers ($6000), Ryan Shamus ($2500) and One Man’s Goal currently up for sale and with the bids up to $6000 (update: this auction had to restart). Add to that NorthxEast selling a few weeks back ($8200) and there has definitely been something in the air. Mark at 45n5 did a little analysis of the sales based upon subscriber numbers and points out that the blogs are selling for between $27.78 and $35.16 per subscriber (not including NorthxEast who sold for around $4 per subscriber). I’m not sure subscribers numbers are the best way to value a blog - but it would definitely be one factor. Other factors would include: Traffic (a
