Save me Jack Bauer!
1970-01-01 00:59:59
My favorite TV show lately is 24. I love this show. No, really, I LOVE this show. How does Jack always manage to save the day?Are you about to be shot by a terrorist? Jack will save you. Being chased by a criminal on the streets? Don't worry, Jack's got that covered. He's just about to swing by and pick you up in his SUV in about 3 seconds. Are you being tortured by people who have an exceedingly large bag of torture devices? No problemo! Jack will save you and bite the neck of your torturer to allow you to escape and run free. I imagine how much I could use Jack Bauer in my life as a Mom. This guy is useful in so many ways... let me give you a couple of ideas...Kitchen Fires:Me: "Jack, help! My skillet caught fire on the stove!"Jack flies into the kitchen, and puts out the fire with a fire extinguisher and his rippling arm muscles.Unwanted solicitors at the door:Me: "Jack help! I don't want to buy meat from this guy... please just get rid of him!"Jack grabs meat man by the collar an

Thinking ahead isn't far enough!
1970-01-01 00:59:59
I just returned from an open house at our local church for preschool enrollment. I am really dumbfounded at how stressful this has become for me and other Moms in the same position as I am.At issue, S. and I are discussing whether David will attend Catholic school or public for Kindergarten and beyond. I am on the fence... I want David to receive a good, well-balanced and thoughtful education. It's really all about the best environment, and S. agrees.Getting in to the local Catholic school is very difficult. It comes down to connections and who you know (and how much you throw into the collection plate week to week). It has a very good reputation. It's not "expensive", well, let me say that I am spending $9-10k a year for 4 full-days of preschool (yup, only four). Tuition for the Catholic school runs about $4k/year. So, to someone not paying already, it's a big expenditure, but to us, it's waaaay less than what we have been paying for the last 3 years. Our public school system is no

On the path... again...

If you have no interest in fertility, you can stop reading here. lol. This blog is going to be leaning heavily to the babymaking business in the coming months... but I promise I will still stay as witty as ever. Lord knows I'll need all the humor I can muster with all that lies ahead. Please hang with me, won't you?I had my RE appointment today. For once, I walked out of a doctor appointment feeling good. The doctor spent an hour and a half with me. It was truly nice to not feel rushed and to be educated on all things fertility related. What a nice appointment. He lifted my spirits, and that is something I sorely needed. You rock, doc!For the next three weeks, I am at the mercy of my new favorite doctor. More blood tests (now S. gets in on the action too), some genetic testing, and finally this month I get my Day 3 FSH testing too see how old me "body" thinks I am (i.e. my eggs). And, this cycle will be fully monitored. Which means, appointments and ultrasounds out the wazoo.I came home

I used to really like John Travolta, but what the heck is going on with his hair lately? And, do you think he's had some "work" done? I just can't figure it out. He's almost creepy. For the football nuts. I am sorry to see Jeff leave the Eagles too. [Insert sad music here]I hated Jennifer's dress too. Poor girl looked like a space cadet at the Oscars. She will be regretting THAT fashion choice for the rest of her life.I am totally digging this as storage for David's playroom. I might just buy it!Happy to report that I lost another 3 lbs. at the weekly WW weigh-in. For some reason everyone in town has decided to join WW. I had to wait in line outside the door, and it took 35 minutes to get to the scale. I PAY for that crap.Oh, and I spent another lovely morning at the lab for a blood draw, but today hubby went with me because he got blood drawn too. Too bad he can't participate in next week's fun at the RE's office. I'll tell you about that later....

Get LOST
2007-03-01 15:20:00
As in the TV show, that is. I have been addicted to this show just as much as I've been addicted to walking in the kitchen and opening my fridge for no reason (if you are not an emotional eater on WW at the moment, you will NOT understand that comment)...Anyway, since Lost now airs at 10pm ET I go through this weekly ritual now. Watch American Idol (Antonella still can't sing btw) and then TRY to stay awake until 10pm.I've only been able to keep my eyes open twice, but thanks to DVR (love ya honey) I can now watch it whenever I want in its HDTV glory. Before I started work today, and after I dropped off David at school, I watched the episode with my Dunkin Donuts coffee (shhhhhhh....)I am one of those Lost viewers that has been slightly annoyed that the writers still can't throw the TV audience a bone lately. I am all for mysteries.. but I get a little peeved if I don't get some sort of ability to connect the dots on an outstanding question.Hello? Remember Penny Widmore at the Nor

I knew my addiction to Ben & Jerry's ice cream would help me some day.New news that ice cream can lower the risk of one type of infertility."The idea is not to go crazy and start to have ice cream threetimes a day," said the lead author, Dr. Jorge Chavarro, a research fellow at Harvard. "But it is certainly possible to have a healthy diet with low saturated fat intake by having one serving of high-fat dairy a day."Come on Jorge, state the obvious. lol.The good news is now I know what to go with my optional 35 extra WW weekly points.

Remembering to not forget

Dory: No. No, you can't... STOP. Please don't go away. Please? No one's ever stuck with me for so long before. And if you leave... if youleave... I just, I remember things better with you. I do, look. P. Sherman,forty-two... forty-two... I remember it, I do. It's there, I know it is, becausewhen I look at you, I can feel it. And-and I look at you, and I... and I'm home.Please... I don't want that to go away. I don't want to forget. This line, if you haven't figured it out already, is from Finding Nemo. One of David's favorite movies. One of mine too.I remember hearing this line for the first time, and my stomach just twisted in knots. It struck a chord with me. It reminded me of so many times in my life when I just was grasping at straws wondering how did I get here? Am I on the right path?Wanting to be alone sometimes, and yet not wanting to truly be alone.Fearful of forgetting... past mistakes, regrets, the highs and lows of my life.I have always been a reflective person. A little inspiration
2007-03-06 14:42:00
Yesterday, I had my u/s at the RE's office. The good news, no cysts or anything that may be hindering me on the fertility front. Bloodwork, all done. Results still not known.Next Monday is the HSG, which will complete the picture for testing. After the HSG is done, we will have a bonifide plan of action.I am happy that Dr. P has me on this accelerated pace. It makes me feel like I am moving towards my goal.As I was driving home yesterday, I passed the most peculiar sign on the way home. It was a quote that someone put on the local elementary school announcement board (you know, the kind of sign that you can slide letters on and off)."The world says it's not possible... but hope whispers to try it one more time."To be honest I would expect to maybe see that in front of a church, it was odd that someone spelled it out on the school sign.Nevertheless, it was a dose of inspiration well received!

They don't call it hump day for nothin'
2007-03-07 16:17:00
I have so much going on in my life at the moment. All the hub-bub has dried up my inspiration for blog topics.Which is funny since I rarely have an occasion where I have nothing to say. What been on my mind you ask? Did you ask? If you didn't, just keep your mouth shut, lol. Stress from the gazillions of doctor and lab appointments in the last couple weeks. Promotion at work (blessing and a curse). Training replacement at work (because I wasn't smart enough to leave the divison entirely, so I still have "ownership" to my old position). Toddler David has been exercising his free-will in the last couple of weeks to challenge EVERYTHING we (S. and I) say (hmm, bet there's a good bloggy topic in there).Okay now, everyone think in unison.... awwwwwwwwwwww.It's Wednesday, friends.Talk amongst yourselves.

The upside to not being pregnant, yup there is one...
2007-03-08 15:16:00
Wine.In copious amounts. Preferably red, or my favorite Riesling. I don't discriminate. As long as it doesn't come in a box, that's alright with me.Now, don't get any ideas in your pretty little head. I am definitely a social drinker "on-occasion". I'm not swilling the bottle every night (although lately, the thought has crossed my mind, lol). I like to indulge in a new bottle on the weekends. After 2-3 glasses I am pretty much shot anyway (cheap date, sue me). Nevertheless, I do like wine, and recently I have also converted hubby to wine as well.We just recently cleaned out the unfinished side of our basement, and for the first time since we moved here 7 years ago, we finally have everything in order. In fact, we did such a good job cleaning the unfinsihed half, I am now wishing we finished more of the good side.Anyhoo, the reason I mention this is our basement has served as our wine cellar. I had a couple assorted wine racks for the reds (because we mostly buy red), and a couple

Yeah, I've officially been sucked into this season of American Idol.I try not to, I start out "casually" as a viewer, tuning in occasionally in the beginning, until I reach the point of no return. So, here we are, the Top 12.And were you as surprised as I was as to who made it? .... and who didn't?The upside, Antonella is finally gone. I'm sure she is a nice girl, don't get me wrong- but she just can't complete with everyone. Looking good can only take you so far, and I'm sure someone will hire her to do something.. as long as it's not related to singing. HARSH....I was surprised that they kept Haley instead of Sabrina. Haley can sing, but Sabrina was much, much better. That being said, I don't think either will make it past the top 6, so it's pretty much a wash there.Where do I start with Sanjaya? sigh....... I will feel bad when he is kicked to the curb, just because he seems like he has the most fragile of egos. Someone out there likes him. I think they may be voting on his

Too bad it's Monday, I could have called it Torture Tuesday
2007-03-12 20:32:00
What a better way to start the day than subjecting oneself to an outpatient procedure on a Monday .After the DST time change, when you are grumpy already because you are -1 hour of sleep. So, I had my HSG today. It was pretty uneventful, except for the fact that I have a cervix that likes to hide (thanks Doc). After 15 minutes of playing hide and go seek with my female parts, Dr. P inserted the dye and discovered that my left tube is wonderfully open. My right tube is questionable. No dye traveled into the right tube, so the assumption is that it is blocked. Dr. P is an RE brimming with positivity, so he proclaimed that just because the dye didn't travel through there, all hope is not lost and there's a significant possibility that it is just fine. Could be a spasm or the dye just liked traveling to the left better........ and then.....why exactly did I torture myself this morning then?Ok, I'm not being sarcastic. I love my RE. I guess that all this diagnostic stuff is what it is, (this

It's the top 12 week. Read on for my take of this week's performances... Brandon: “You Can’t Hurry Love”. I do like this guy, but he is just playing it too safe. It was a boring song for me. I keep waiting for him to really sing the heck out of a song, but I am afraid he may be eliminated before he gets there. Melinda: “Home”. I really, really love this girl. She is such a powerhouse and

It's a beautiful day
2007-03-14 15:09:00
For my concerned readers... I am feeling much better today. And, it's sunny and warm in the Northeast today, which puts me in a pretty darn good mood. Nothing like opening a window and breathing in the fresh air for a change. Listening to the birds singing in the trees. Spring is here. Put down the windows, turn up the car stereo, and rock it out.

My Mom gave me this picture a few weeks ago. This is a picture of my Dad and me at my 5th birthday party... see the Barbie doll cake on the table???? My Mom took a cake decorating class to make that (somewhere around the time she also dabbled in ceramics... my Mom was crafty for sure). That was the year my Mom and Dad bought me a Barbie Corvette. After everyone left the party, I just drove and

The latest addition to BagMomma's closet

Here's my latest addition to my ever-growing closet of handbags... This was a biggie (dollar wise), and I rationalized my purchase because... 1. I got a VIP invite to the Coach store for 25% off anything I bought yesterday. 2. I had a $200 Amex GC from the holidays. 3. I am using my bonus from work to cover it. I also picked up sunglasses too. You should feel the suede, very nice. I don't

Well, S. and I went to our 2nd consultation with the RE yesterday. I was hoping that there would be a "smoking gun" that would put all the questions to rest. Everyone would say "aaaaaaaah, so that's why your can't get pregnant quickly and hold onto a pregnancy!" , we would treat it, and go on our merry way. But of course not. We talked about the issue of my one tube being "possibly" blocked,

Last night David was brushing his teeth (S. was in there with him) and he came out of the bathroom and said... "Mommy, Daddy said he's f*&king done." "I think we need to wash his mouth out with soap!" You know, it's bad enough that David knows the bad words, thankfully, I have gotten it into his head that he should not speak them.
