Valentine's for under $20
2008-02-07 02:52:00
Hmm yes I know what you are thinking....cheap. Am I right? But some of the most romantic things I have experienced have been those long on thought and short on the $$So yes you could do the whole 12 dozen roses, starlight dinner on deserted island and diamond necklace, but your partner might just appreciate the following...Here is our top 3...1. Spend the money on the great wine and get the view for free. Sunset at the lookout on Mt Tamborine or watching the surf from Burleigh Headlands, both are sensational places for downing a bottle.2. A small gift pack with bath salts, massage oil and chocolates. Run her a bath, feed her chocolates and a back massage usually goes down well.3. Chick flick movie and popcorn...yes forgo the guns and bloodshed, take some tissues and watch a chick flick mos

Lush hair treatment
2008-02-05 17:36:00
If you hair is a frizzy mess after all this wet weather, here's the perfect way to turn it into shiny, smoothe locks....Take a tablespoon macadamia nut oil and gently heat. Drop in 5 mls (around half a teaspoon) of your favourite essential oil (I love geranium for my dry hair).Part your hair, and start applying the oil to the ends. Then take around 3 tablespoons of your normal conditioner and apply all over your hair and scalp. Massage right through, pop on a shower cap and leave for 20 minutes. Shampoo and condition as normal.Dead easy...Do you have a favourite recipe for nourishing your hair? Feel free to leave your tips here!

The perfect drink
2008-01-31 14:20:00
If you have been searching for the perfect drink that tastes wonderful, is healthy, has few calories and makes your body look great, then I have found it.It is simply watermelon juice. All through Asia it is readily available and a great thirst quencher for when you are tired of drinking water. (I know as a therapist I'm not meant to say I get sick of drinking water, but I do).And the beautiful part is that it is low in calories (fat free!) whilst giving a good hit of nutrients to your body. It is loaded with vitamins A, B6, and C!Vitamin A is important for your eyes and boosts the immune system.Vitamin B6 is used by your body to manufacture seortonin (which makes us feel calm and relaxed).Vitamin C also enhances your immune system while protecting your body from free radicals.Watermelon i

Time has a habit of slipping away quickly. So I realised when I looked at this blog just how slack I have been. Time last year got chewed up running the business, raising a son (and boyfriend!) and just generally life. But then I went away for 6 glorious weeks overseas and suddenly I had time to spend two hours in a day spa (instead of sneaking in a half hour massage, spending the whole time thinking of all the phone messages I would need to reply to at the end). It wasn't so much the massage or any of the lush treatments I enjoyed (although the Vietnamese four hands was divine), just the sheer luxury of time with nothing to do but be pampered! So this year, my resolution is to take the time. Steal it, sneak it, earn it....some how to squirrel it away to retain my sanity.

Top 5 reasons why a massage is better than chocolate
2007-08-26 15:52:00
Five great reasons why a massage is better than chocolate A massage has zero calories, and is fat and sugar free. Chocolate can't unlock the muscles in your neck or ease the pain in your lower back. It is socially acceptable to indulge in a three hour massage. A 3 hour chocolate feast is something to be done in private. Massage improves the texture of your skin, leaving you with healthier better nourished skin. A great massage usually lasts at least an hour. A block of Swiss dark chocolate lasts around 5 minutes in our house

Get Ready For Spring
2007-08-20 22:07:00
The jasmine is coming out, there is warmth in the sunshine and it's starting to feel that spring is just around the corner. At Ripple we love Spring as it's a time to rejuvenate and shake off the winter chill. There are many springtime rituals around the world that celebrate the end of winter. In India, the Holi Festival includes the throwing of paint, either as powder or paint filled balloons. The streets are filled with people covered in colour. The Japanese celebrate spring in the Setsuban Festival with the throwing of beans to get rid of evil spirits. And spring festivals in China, held around Chinese New Year, include lots of firecrackers and dancing dragons. At Ripple, we don't throw beans or paint, or set off fire crackers during your massage, but celebrate Spring in a different way. Exquisite Hot Stones
2007-06-20 21:26:00
It's pouring with rain, the fire is on and winter has arrived! This time of year our most popular massage is our hot stone and its easy to see why.Imagine warm balls of heated oil slowly sliding down your back and you have a good idea of why our guests love it.The stones are used in two ways.Volcanic stones are heated and placed along the chakras of your back, warming tense muscles and providing a deep sense of relaxation. This is great if you are stressed (and who isn't at the end of the financial year!) and for chronic tension in the lower back and between the shoulder blades. At the same time smooth rounded stones are warmed, coated in aromatherapy oils, and used directly on the skin as part of the massage.Hot Stones have been used throughout history in many different cultures. Exfoliation - the smooth thing
2008-03-20 17:46:00
Cleopatra did it. Paris does it. Even David Beckham does it.Hmm I'm not sure what you are thinking but we are talking about exfoliation. The ancient Egyptians are said to be the first to use exfoliating skin techniques. Kings and queens used alabaster and pumice to remove blemishes and rough spots to make their skin smooth .As your skin ages, dead cells on the top are constantly sloughed off to make way for new ones.Removing these every so often keeps the skin looking young and takes away the dried spots that can build up.The other great side benefit of exfoliating is that it stimulates the lymphatic system which gets rid of all the toxins in your body. Great if you have had one too many big nights out. There are lots of ways to exfoliate your skin.I haven't tried the Egyptian alabaster tech

Affirmations
2008-06-01 20:39:00
Affirmations are a deceptively simple device that can used by anyone. Try to use this method whilst in the meditative state, when you are sitting at the traffic lights or when you are brushing your teeth. I have them set as my screen saver which pops up a couple of times a day.An affirmation is simply a phrase summing up how you want to be.To make affirmations effective they should be made in the

Making pain a person
2008-06-22 17:26:00
I heard the words every parent dreads last Friday..."your son has been in an accident."There is an instant clutch at your heart and the words "Is he okay" automatically come out.Fortunately, in spite of being in a bad school bus crash at Coomera, he came away from it with a broken arm and fractured shoulder. Not great for him, but the mantra "it could have been so much worse" has been repeated to
