Short announcement 2005-10-02 13:00:00 I just enabled "word verification" in the comment settings. I just published a post and within a few minutes I had 4 spam comments which invited me to check some sites to make money and other shit. For those who wants to post a serious comment it means a little more inconvenience, but this way I can keep my comments clean from spam. Thanks for your understanding! Read more:Short
No pics today 2005-10-02 12:28:00 I noticed on my brothers weblog (Dutchblog Israel) that he recommended some (Dutch) photoblogs and mine was one of them. I'll return the favor by mentioning his blog. I guess this won't generate much extra traffic to his blog yet, but it's the thought that counts. My brother's weblog gets more visitors so maybe that will generate some more traffic to this photoblog. For those who came here through Dutchblog Israel I would say: Welcome and enjoy!Don't have much time this weekend to post some pics. So I leave it to this post for today. Going to visit my parents later today.Later, don't know exactly when, because next Friday Noriko and I are going on a week holiday to Crete, Greece, I will put some more links to other weblogs and intersting sites. For now: Bye, bye!!
Just one pic for today 2005-09-25 17:45:00 I had some trouble yesterday with uploading pictures to here. For today I'll post just one pic. It was taken at the Tokyo Rainbow Bridge around late April or early May 1998. It was my second visit to Japan and I was drinking beer with two of my Japanese friends on a terrace near the bridge during a nice sunset. I also have some nice pics from Tokyo Rainbow Bridge at night when the bridge is illuminated. Might post these some other time.
Some more B/W pics 2005-09-17 13:19:00 Here are a few more black and white photos. The first two were taken with a Samsung ECX 1 compact camera. The third one was taken with the Nikon F3. This one was taken in Japan about 5 years ago from Noriko and their little and funny dog Ranchan. She was a strong minded doggy with very funny manners. This one was taken about 6 or 7 years ago during a daytrip with my friend Monique to Maastricht in the South of Holland. This is another one from my little niece Iris from the same serie as mentioned in my previous post.
Some black en white pics 2005-09-10 10:47:00 I like black and white pics. Black and white gives a different dimension to pics and requires a different approach than colour pictures. Since I got a digital camera (Nikon Coolpix 5700) I haven't made much black and white series. Here are a few B&W-pics from a serie that I made three and a half year ago from my sister and little niece Iris. Iris was just 9 months old then. I forgot which type film I used (I think it was Ilford Delta 400 ISO and Fuji Neopan ISO 1600), but the used camera was a Nikon F3 SLR, a camera that was given to me by my mother in law in Japan. This camera is already 25 years old but still takes excellent pics. Also got a set lenses and an original Nikon flashlight with it.Anyway here are the pics: For those who get here for the first time. You can enlarge the pics by clicking on them.
The same person 2005-09-02 21:12:00 When I show people pics from our Japanese wedding ceremony (now 5 years ago) like this one and the one from my previous post and when they see "regular" pics from Noriko, they find it hard to believe that she is the same person
. I can guarantee that she is :-).It was a very special and a memorable moment in my life for many reasons, but also because it is so different from what we are used to here in Holland. I'm still grateful to my mother in law for this experience.
40 years again 2005-08-27 16:21:00 Today it's Noriko's birthdayShe turned 40.Happy birthday and many more years!Love you!EJ
40 years 2005-08-20 21:14:00 Today it was the 40th wedding anniversary of my parents. They didn't want to make a big fuzz of this day. They don't like to be in the middle of the attention. So instead of a big party they took us (that's me, Noriko and my sister, brother in law and the kids) to the zoo. We had a lovely day. Here are a few pics of today. The happy couple 40 years ago The complete selection of today's pics can be found at: link
Some new old pics 2005-08-14 23:35:00 Had a busy week. I didn't had much time to add some new pics.Today's pics are also from last year. They were taken during a daytrip with Noriko and my mother in law to the Keukenhof, the famous flower- and bulbpark.P.s. by clicking on the pics a larger image will be shown. The whole photoselection can be seen at: link 1 and link 2
A fun event 2005-08-07 22:44:00 Yesterday Noriko and I went to Amsterdam Pride 2005, the biggest gay event
in Holland and one of the three biggest outside events of Amsterdam. It's a series of events with the boatparade through the canals of Amsterdam as one of it's highlights. It was a great fun, extravagant and colourful event and the atmosphere was very open and friendly. A real plea for tolerance.Next you can see a few pics that gives an impression of the day and especially the boat parade. Noriko and I took more than 400 pics together. When we still would shoot on film I guess we wouldn't took so many pictures. Here and there I might add some short comment. Here are the pics. At the end of this post I add a link to an online photoalbum where you can check our complete selection. This is Noriko getting prepared Noriko one more time It was not all fun. The first boat at the parade was a protest against the execution of two young gay Iranian teens a few weeks ago (see: link ) and a protest against homophobia i
What's next? 2005-08-04 23:38:00 Had some trouble yesterday adding images but things seem to work okay today.Haven't decided yet what kind of pics I want to add, but I guess most of them will be family/friends pics and landscape/sightseeing pics. I'm going through my photofolders to pic out some nice ones. Later on I probably will post more in a chronological order.I'm also working to figure things out concerning the lay-out. I'm not completely satisfied yet. So suggestions are always welcome. Today's two pics were taken last year May 2004 during a walk with Noriko and my mother in law near Leerdam the city where my parents live.
First post from Japan 2006-01-08 16:28:00 Here are the first pics from Japan
. I also want to introduce you to my little Japanese nephew Taito. He's a cute little guy, but also busy and very energetic. He's now two and a half year old. I saw him for the first time two years ago when he was a baby. I expected that he would be scared for a big guy like me or at least shy, but not at all. Within 10 minutes after we arrived he was already sitting on my lap and asking for attention. Here are a few pics that my mother in law took. This one I took: I was impressed by Taito's chopstick skills. Later this day Noriko and I went into town to check for a new ramenplace. For those who don't know what ramen is check this info. The place we went has a website but unfortunately it's only in Japanese. When it comes to efficiency some Japanese restaurants can't be beaten. Most of those efficient places you don't go for dining the whole evening, you go there to have a quick and if possible a good meal. First
you buy tickets from a vendingm
I'm off to Japan 2006-01-06 08:37:00 Today Noriko and I are leaving for Japan
. We will visit her mother and stay in Tokyo for two weeks. I take my laptop with me, so I will try to update my weblog every now and then.Haven't been posting much the past few weeks, so I'll try to make it up during our stay in Japan.Bye for now!
Pub Cat 2005-12-12 23:54:00 Once, sometimes twice a week I pick up Noriko from the pub. She discovered this typical nearby local pub last summer. She liked the friendly atmosphere and since last summer she often goes there after shoppingon Saturday and sometimes Thursdaynight for a coffee or a beer. When she arrives there she gives me a call and then I pick her up on the bicycle. We drink one or two beers and then go home.In this pub there's a quite big pub cat walking around. He is a former straycat but the people of the pub took care of the cat and now he belongs to the pub interior, always lying on the table (and when it's too crowded lying under the table) or sitting in front of the door begging to go outside. Here are two pics of the cat that were taken by Noriko. BTW the beer next to the cat on picture two was Noriko's. As far as I know the cat only likes milk and coffeecream.
Oops 2005-12-04 22:27:00 About once every 4 to 5 weeks my mom gives me a haircut. She always use a set of clippers and gives me a few millimetres length haircut. So it's always pretty short. Only last Sunday the set of clippers broke down halfway the haircut. I couldn't go home with a weird screwed up kind of short mohawk, so my mother used a device she normally only use for my sidebeards. There are no combs on this device to set any hairlength, so the only model that was available was a model football hooligan. It's not completely but very close to bald as the pictures below will show. It's a relief to see how fast my hair grows back. There is already quite a difference between my hair now and one week ago.
So cute and fun to watch 2005-11-28 00:15:00 Today I visited my sister and parents. I brought some Sinterklaaspresents with me for our nieces Iris and Fleur. For Iris it were some kind of fairy- or angelwings and for Fleur Sinterklaas brought a wooden puzzle. For those who don't know what Sinterklaas is you can check this link for information about the origins of Santa Claus, which sounds close to Sinterklaas.Anyway our nieces liked their present a lot, especially Iris was very exited about her fairy- or angelwings. She wanted to wear them immediately and they matched very well with a princess outfit that she got some time ago. After taking a picture first with her wings she wanted to change to her princess outfit and wear the wings with this outfit. When Irisi changed into her princess outfit Fleur also wanted to put on her "Pieten"costume which consists of some trousers and a hat. I shot some pics of both of them and they looked really cute on most of them. They are so fun to watch
.Their characters are completely different, but
Colorado (5) 2005-11-18 23:22:00 I returned home last Tuesdayafternoon ftom a nice and exiting two week trip to Colorado
. I promised I would post some more pics, so here they are. The pics are from the last weekend from my trip into the mountains with my friends Julie and Alan. The pics were shot at the top of Pike's Peak and because of the good and clear weather the views were excellent and spectacular. Some more info about the trip you can read in my previous post. Later this weekend I will post some pics from the "Garden of the Gods" where we went after coming down from Pike's Peak. Julie and Alan
Colorado (4) 2005-11-14 06:32:00 The past few days I didn't do much from a sightseeing point of view. A had a very relaxed time these days. Spend my days with reading, watching some tv, sleeping, internet to check the news and some of my favorite websites en weblogs and had some talks with Julie, her husband Alan and Julie's son Brian. I met Julie's sister last Thursday and that night Julie and I went to a sportsbar to have dinner and watch an ice-hockeygame on a big screen with some of Julie's friends. This Saturday Julie and Alan took me on a ride into the mountains. This time a bit more further away than the weekend before. After a nice ride with nice scenery we first checked in at the motel in Frisco where we were suppose to stay for the night. After checking in and a short rest we drove up to Southpark (the real city not from the cartoon). The town itself is not much special, basically it is a kind of ghosttown/old miningtown. I just wanted to have a picture from me with one of the Southpark signboards, becaus Read more:Colorado

Colorado (3) 2005-11-07 18:24:00 Julie and Alan (Julie's husband) took us (me and Becky) for a ride into the mountains last Saturday. The scenery was very pretty. We saw some wildlife like mountaingoats (forgot how they are officially called) and a huge number of elk. I shot some nice videos with my digital camera from the car, while we drove around. And we made two or three short stops to shoot some pics. Here are a few. Enjoy! Read more:Colorado
New items added 2005-11-07 08:50:00 Every now and then I'm trying things out on my template and doing some maintenance on the right sidebar. These headlines will be automatically updated every time you visit here again.I also added two links under the title: "This day in history". Colorado (2) 2005-11-05 02:05:00 During Julie's lunchbreak (she works from home) Julie, Becky (a friend from Minnesota, with a hawribly funny Minnesotan accent) and I took a walk down the trail, that starts from the end of the street where Julie lives. The trail goes down to the foothills. It was really a nice walk. It wasn't as colourful as it probably looks during early autumn or spring and summer, but the scenery was still very nice, at least it was for me, being a cityboy who isn't used to nearby nature. We saw some deer and snakes (one dead, another alive). Also shot some black and white pics. Here are just a few pics to give you an impression. Almost the same pic as the previous, but then B&W These were the deer I was talking about Read more:Colorado
Colorado 2005-11-03 00:35:00 Arrived yesterdaynight at Denver, Colorado
, where I was picked up by my friend Julie. I'm still a bit jetlagged, but I hope I can catch up some sleep tonight.Julie took me this afternoon for a short ride around the neighbourhood to the nearby waterreservoir. The neighbourhood is real nice and beautiful. I can imagine why Julie likes to ride her motorbike around here. If the weather is okay on Saturday we will go for a ride a bit higher up the mountains. The scenery must be very nice up there.I took a few pics, just to get started. Almost have two weeks left to catch up. :-) It has been quite dry lately, so that's why the waterlevel is not very high at the reservoir. More pics will be posted later.
More Crete pics (5) 2005-10-24 23:38:00 Today some more houses and historical stuff again. The first three pics were all taken in the old part of Chania. If you ever visit here avoid the main (shopping and souvenir)streets. Slip into the small alleys near the Venetian port or the Turkish Market, get lost (which is hard to do) and walk around. There you find the most gorgeous, colourful and picturesque houses. This pic was taken at Knossos. The guide books already warned us a bit, so we weren't that disappointed, but it was a bit disappointing. No question that it is an interesting place. It always give me a special feeling to walk around a place with remains that go back for about 4000 years. But it seems (also by what I read) that by todays standards Arthur Evans, the amateur archeologist who uncovered the Knossos palace the beginning of the 20th century, used a bit too much of his imagination when he tried to reconstruct parts of the old palace. Some parts look a bit too fake and sometimes it's difficult to tell which p Read more:Crete
New links added 2005-10-23 21:53:00 Today no new pics. This time I have added some new links
at the right sidebar. Some time ago I already announced that I would add some new links. Little by little I will add some new ones. This time I have added a few newslinks to news(paper) websites. Sites that I visit on a regular basis. Also added a link to a Dutch weblog that I often visit called Verbal Jam. It's only in Dutch unfortunately, but is is well written and often with a good sense of humour. Recommended for my Dutch visitors. Finally I have added some movie websites. As everybody can see in my profile I have a more than average interest in Asian movies. I like Japanese cinema for quite some time and since a few years I also discovered Korean cinema. It won't surprise much that I have added some Asian movie websites. Most of them offer reviews and some other backgroundinformation. I'm still looking around for more interesting moviewebsites. If I find I will add them later.Enjoy!
More Crete pics (4) 2005-10-22 18:16:00 This time some pics from houses and (historical)buildings. Besides the first pic from the apartment where we were staying, the others were shot at the lovely old part of Chania on West-Crete
. For some history of Chania and Crete you can check link 1 and link 2 (on the right side of this page you can find more specific info about the different ages). This was the apartment where we stayed during our time at Crete. It was located at Agia Marina, just 9 kilometres away from Chania. It was a very nice, clean and comfortable place with an excellent view on the sea from both the terrace downstairs and the balcony upstairs. The houses at the old part of Chania often are very colourful. Most of the time when you took a closer look they looked a bit weather-beaten and in not so good condition, but it also gives the houses an authentic feel and look. Some occupied houses are forming one organic part with ruins or just partly demolished houses The harbour of Chania The old Venation port of
More Crete pics (3) 2005-10-19 21:05:00 Today I'll show some animal pics from Crete
. There were loads of cats and dogs and many of them were straycats and -dogs. You saw many cats at the restaurants begging for food. Most of them looked well fed, probably because most of the tourist gave them food at the restaurants. It surprised us that the cats were tolerated and weren't chased away at the restaurants, because I always understood that at most of the Mediterranean countries they are not so friendly towards animals, especially towards straycats and -dogs.Anyway here are some of the pics. A cute cat couple at the traditional mountain village of Milia Noriko and the watchdog of Milia A sheep near the cave of St. John the hermit, a greek-orthodox saint This dog at the old Venetian port of Chania looked a bit too well fed For some reason this horse reminded me of Mr. Ed This cute and very energetic little dog belong to the captain on the boat from Kissamos to Gramvousa and the gorgeous beach of Balos Finally some dead an
More Crete Pics (2) 2005-10-18 00:14:00 Today some black and white pics from our holiday at Crete
.The first 5 pics were all taken on Tuesday, October 11th. It rained most of the day. It was lousy weather to go swimming, but it gave me some nice photo-opportunities. Noriko went to a city spa and took a bath at the hamam and had a massage after that. In the mean time I took a walk around the old city walls around the old Venetian port of Chania or Hania (there are different ways of spelling according to which transcription is used) and decided to shoot some black and white pics. With the clouds at the gloomy sky it gave some nice contrast for B&W pics. I like old junk The rustier the better Views at and from the city walls part 1 Views at and from the city walls part 2 Views at and from the city walls part 3 And finally a pic from Noriko shooting pics from the balcony of our apartment at Agia Marina.
