MMA Ninja's UFC 82 Anderson Silva vs Dan Henderson Quick Picks and thoughts 2008-03-01 13:54:00
Not going to get into why posting has been lacking lately, that's for a later post about life getting in the way.....
AndersonSilva
Vs. Henderson
.htm">Dan Henderson
- it's one of those fights for me where it's just very difficult to pick. I really like both fighters. Anderson Silva is really well rounded and only lacks in takedown defense where Dan Henderson excels. Henderson also, in my opinion, has more power to his wild punching style but Silva is extremely accurate with his. That's the beauty of MMA, this fight can end in a number of way. I'm picking Anderson Silva by slow methodical pick apart.
Heath Herring Vs. Cheick Kongo - I really don't like Herring and how perpetually over hyped he is even though he's been show up numerous times for what he is - sl Read more:Ninja

Fighting Fedor - M-1 Global's new TV reality show with the goal of gettting a shot at Fedor Emelianenko 2008-02-12 14:04:00
All the cool kids are reporting it MMA Junkie and MMA Mania, FightLinker and CagePotato, so I thought I'd spread the word about it too since these news are brand spanking new!
Without any warning or even preceeding rumors, M-1 Global
pulls a rabbit out of a hat and presents everybody with teaser video about their upcoming reality
show about 16 heavyweights will train and fight each other for their one and only shot at fighting THE Fedor Emelianenko. The 16 fighters will do all the training and fighting at the Red Devil fight club in St. Petersburg, Russia.
The video made it sound like the show will actually be aired on American television, but I didn't see any clues as to when or where. They used the guy that voices over all of the American movi Read more:Fighting

About damn time, Chris Leben speaks out on Alessio Sakara poor track record in UFC 2008-02-12 11:14:00
I've been wondering for a while now why and how Alessio Sakara has been getting fights in UFC. You just have to question Joe Silva and Dana White's thinking here. With numerous fighters getting cut from UFC due to 1 or 2 bad performances, this guy rides the coat tales of his highly questionable boxing career in Europe and a decision win over Elvis Sinosic (no offense Elvis, you're cool) where his punching looked kinda good. Dana and Joe Rogan just couldn't get over him and his supposedly amazing striking skill when they initially pushed him.
With all the hype about Sakara's "amazing" boxing background, he managed to actually win only 1 fight by TKO out of his 2 wins in six outings in UFC (I'm definitely not counting the James Lee fight Read more:Chris
Igor Vovchanchyn will never return to MMA 2008-02-09 15:31:00
It may not be news to many, but in his recent interview at MixFight.ru Igor Vovchanchyn was asked what he was up to now and if he was asked to come back, would he?
I'm a businessman now. I won't come back. Sure I think about it every once in a while, but I'm 35, you know. The main problem is the injuries. I can't even strike with my right hand. I got three screws in my right elbow and one in the left. I'm about to undergo an operation on my nose as I can't breathe right. To sum things up, there is no sense in my comeback.
With all the news coming out on Fedor recently, I was wondering what was going on with Igor Vovchanchyn and if there was a chance of him coming back to MMA at some point. But he settled it for me. Igor was one of the MMA'
Photos from 2008 Russian Combat Sambo Championship - Kirill Sidelnikov - Dmitrii Samoilenko - Fedor Emelianenko 2008-02-09 10:38:00
MixFight.ru posted a photo gallery of the Red Devil team members from 2008 Russian
Combat Sambo Championship. There are pictures of Kirill Sidelnikov, who fought in PrideFC and who Fedor speaks very highly of as someone to watch for out of Russia, Dmitrii Samoilenko and Fedor Emelianenko doing a quick seminar between the fights.
The photo gallery is here.
MixFight.ru also put a video of a lighter Red Devil fighter Mihail Zayats's fight in the finals for the 90 kg weight category. Mihail Zayats is wearing the RED gi top (kurtka).
Fedor Emelianenko's championship fight against Stanislav Shushko at Russian Combat Sambo Championships 2008-02-08 18:57:00
Head over to MixFight.ru to catch Fedor Emelianenko's championshipfight
at 2008 Russian
Combat Sambo Championship.
It's hard to believe that the other guy was the finalist of the tournament. He looked awkward and couldn't muster anything more than half hearted jabs and an awkward knee.
This was way too easy for Fedor. I'm sure everyone there was disappointed with the obvious disparity in skill. I'm sure it was fun for Fedor though.

Russian Combat Sambo Championship 2008 Day one - Fedor beat all of his three opponents 2008-02-07 16:11:00
courtesy of mixfight.ru
Yesterday I translated a little new blurb from Fedor's official website on what's next for him and his participation in Russian
Combat Sambo Championship, but forgot to check mixfight.ru to see if they posted anything on it. And they did post a picture gallery of the "Red Devil" team preparing for the championship.
Today was the first day of the championship and there is an article on the results at mixfight.ru but it's only in russian. Here is what it says:
The first day of Russian Combat Sambo Championship took place today at St. Petersburg's SKK.
The Red Devil club was represented by 4 fighters in two weight classes.
In 90 kg weight category, Victor Nemkov confidently started his bout versus Alexei Veselovzorov, domin
Russian Combat Sambo Championships and President's Sambo Cup are next for Fedor 2008-02-06 18:46:00
This was posted on Fedor's official website fedor.bel.ru yesterday but only in the Russian
section so I thought I'd translate it.
Fedor Emelianenko will participate in Russian Combat Sambo Championships
.
The Championships will take place on February 7th and 8th in sports complex "Peterburgskii" (St. Petersburg)
Bit of history, the first combat sambo championship in USSR took place in Leningrad(St. Petersburg) in 1939. 56 athletes participated in it. Now, there are Combat Sambo clubs and schools in 53 countries around the world.

Why Fedor Emelianenko tolerates Jean Claude VanDamme's creepy infatuation 2008-02-05 18:52:00
When I came across this picture of Jean-Claude
Van Damme hugging Fedor Emelianenko on CagePotato's It's BFF Friday!!! post I just could not stop laughing at Van Damme's face expression. There are more pictures there, as well as a video of JCVD hugging Fedor at Yarenokka. FightLinker wrote about that episode as well here. It just didn't strike me then cause he had an animated gif of it and I didn't bother waiting for it to load.
I know how creepy
this looks....and how creepy it is.... and felt I had to explain why Fedor is tolerating this bizarre behavior from Van Damme.
Thing people don’t understand is that in Eastern Europe most of the Western actions stars like Arnold, Stallone and VanDamme were way more popular than the
Mr. Sunshine post UFC 81 Frank Mir interview - Mir gives Brock Lesnar credit and thinks he has real potential 2008-02-04 20:53:00
courtesy of Sherdog.com
To all the fans out there that decided to ignore the fact that Brock
Lesnar was a NCAA Division I heavyweight champ and a real elite athlete before he joined WWE to make a living and derogatory comments after his loss to Frank
Mir by submission about him still not being "real", please listen to Mr. Sunshine's radio interview
of Frank Mir to hear what Frank Mir himself thinks about Brock Lesnar after the fight finally took place.
To all the fans to had a clue about Lesnar's athletic experience and his good performance against Frank Mir, also please list to Mr. Sunshine's interview of Frank Mir. It's quite revealing and honest coming from Mir himself. I have to give Mir props for admitting that few times whe Read more:credit
UFC 81 Rodrigo Nogueira beats Tim The Lame-iac Sylvia for the interim UFC heavyweight championship belt 2008-02-03 01:36:00
I think Tim The Lame-iac Sylvia
is lame. Why? This loss to Nogueira is a prime example of why Sylvia is lame. He could possibly have the heavyweight belt all to himself to parade around on his scooter and M-16 in remote areas of Midwest while listening to snappy honky-tonk country songs. Like in his numerous prior outings in UFC he was fighting a hurt fighter and couldn't not finish him no matter what. It was like that against and injured and hurt Arlovski, against a hurt Vera and again last night against a hurt Nogueira. Only this time it was Sylvia who hurt Nogueira, so it should have been painfully obvious to him that he should just go in for the kill instead of just flailing his arms. He has the size and physical attributes that he needs to hurt peo Read more:championship

Brock Lesnar dominates Frank Mir but gets caught in a kneebar submission 2008-02-03 00:40:00
So wow, yeah, all the anticipation that led up to this fight, all the speculation and questions were sort of answered. I picked Brock
Lesnar to win in my UFC 81 quick picks. He lost the fight unfortunately, but he won respect of many MMA fans that doubted him as being a legitimate threat in MMA. It definitely turned out that way.
The fight started of with Mir low kicking Lesnar and Lesnar catching the kick and immediately taking Mir down. They ended up in Mir's half guard and Lesnar immediately started putting pressure on Mir by vicious looking strikes from the top. In the process of trying to avoid Lesnar's pressure Mir turns his head a little too much toward Lesnar and Lesnar accidentally punched Mir to the back of his head. It was one single punch t Read more:Frank
MMA Ninja's UFC 81 quick picks Brock Lesnar vs Frank Mir Rodrigo Nogueira vs Tim Lame-iac Sylvia 2008-02-02 15:08:00

Brock
Lesnar vs Frank
Mir - Brock Lesnar will run right through Frank Mir. Lots of people are writing Lesnar off against but his wrestling experience and Mir being artificially hyped up by Iole's types will expose Mir and his mediocrity. His biggest win to date is still against another mediocre The Lame-iac Sylvia
and even that was a freak accident.
Rodrigo
Nogueira vs Tim Sylvia - I want Nogueira to win and really hope he will catch Sylvia with something. He'll punch his way inside and take the find to the ground.
Marvin Eastman vs Terry Martin - I think Martin will take this one with his power
Richardo Almeida vs Yuntd - Almeida, he was really good at one point
Jeremy Horn vs Nate Marquartd - Horn should take this one with some e Read more:Ninja
Microsoft to buy Yahoo - will Kevin Iole get the boot? 2008-02-01 15:04:00
So the whole world is buzzing about Microsoft
bidding 44 billion dollars to buy Yahoo
. All the cool kids are blogging about it, so I thought I have to blog about it too. Yahoo's been doing pretty bad business wise and show very poor results in this past quarter earnings. There has been talks of Microsoft looking to scoop up Yahoo and actually become a competitor to Google if it'll be able to pull resources of both together, but it's been all talk till yesterday. Microsoft saw an opportunity to come in and put an unsolicited bid for struggling Yahoo. I think this is great for Microsoft and will help them establishing at least some type of competition for Google and forcing both to come out with better products and offerings. I know not a lot of people pay attenti Read more:Kevin
MMA Ninja's Top 10 Tim The Lame-iac Sylvia pictures 2008-01-31 23:32:00
Tim "The Lame'iac" Sylvia
is fighting a former PrideFC champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira tomorrow night at UFC 81 for UFC's interim Heavyweight Championship belt. Can't say I'm too excited for the fight, you know, being that Nogueira isn't fighting Randy Couture and because Randy's was substituted by incredibly boring "fighting not to lose" Tim Sylvia. I'm mildly interested in seeing Nogueira because of all his past glory, durability and experience in taking out a few giants like Semmy Schilt, Bob Sapp and Zuluzinho. For his debut in UFC he already had to fight a crappy fighter, now he has to do it again.
I can't stand Tim "The Lame-iac" Sylvia. He, his public and private persona, even his nicknam Read more:Ninja

New The Ultimate Fighter show featuring Quinton Jackson and Forrest Griffin off to a great start with new formula 2008-04-02 21:34:00
So apparently Dana White is so sick p**sies sneaking covertly on the show that couldn't take it any longer and for this block buster season of The Ultimate
Fighter show featuring
the first Ultimate Fighter winner, top light-heavyweight contender and a big fan favorite Forrest Griffin
versus the current UFC light-heavyweight champion and Pride FC veteran Quinton "Rampage" Jackson

He must have though to himself real hard - "hmmm.....no matter how hard the coaches make the contestants work out in the opening show, some how the "p**sies" still make it through....I got it!.... it's cause may be possibly "pu**sies" can be good at working out and be al
Ultimate Fight Night Joe Lauzon vs Kenny Florian Results and Quick Review 2008-04-02 20:47:00
First half of round 1 was pretty good. In fact the beginning started out kind of like I predicted with Lauzon taking it to the ground and Florian immediately looking to cut with an elbow from the ground. The fight was stopped for a warning to Florian because supposedly he was elbowing the back of the head. Myself and Joe Rogan, as I'm sure thousands of MMA fans were a bit perplexed with Herb Dean's call. It's nearly impossible from that position and angle to elbow the back of the head directly, kind of like trying to bite your own elbows - highly unlikely.
It'll be interesting to see if this sets a precedence for fighters being in the top guard of trying to really bury their head to defend elbows from the bottom or even try to turn the back of their Read more:Kenny

MMA Ninja is Not Really for sale and my last minute pic for Ultimate Fight Night's Kenny Florian vs Joe Lauzon 2008-04-02 20:24:00
Ya.....so....I have had zero to none time to write last 2 months due work, extensive work travel, excellent paying part time work that I wanted but just couldn't get until, of course, I started to get into regular MMA blogging posting and actually getting a few readers. I mean it's been over a month since my really good picks for UFC 82 and I didn't even get a chance to pat my back in writing for them. I've got a lot to catch up on and as soon as my part time gig's money well will run dry I'll be back on here spouting opinions.
It's old news of course in the fast moving blogging game, but I gotta say... how freaking dumb and clueless Heath Herring's after fight comments at UFC 82 were? If the fight was in Pride he'd kill Kongo? WTF ar Read more:Kenny

MMA Ninja's UFC 83 Georges St Pierr vs Matt Serra quick fight picks 2008-04-19 18:35:00
I am really excited for the main event of this UFC. UFC went with the one big main event carrying the rest of so-so fight
s. Many fighters are coming off losses but because it's the first Canadien UFC card their local appeal will certainly help the event. I'm surprised they didn't get Patrick Cote fighting on this card though. Check out Fightlinker.com for local Montreal coverage
Matt Serra
Vs. Georges St-Pierre - I'm betting the lightning will not strike twice for Matt Serra and his 15 min are over. I'd like to say that St. Pierre's performance against Hughes should be a good indication of what kind of mental and physical state he is in, but I won't because he beat Hughes convincingly right before the first Serra fight too. WEC Featherweight Champion Urijah Faber vs Jens Pulver will be great 2008-05-28 20:51:00
I just got a chance to watch UFC 84 and can't wait to write a bit about - it was one of the better overall UFC cards in a while. During the broadcast UFC's smaller weight cousin World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) ran a clip for a featherweight (145) blockbuster fight between the very energetic Urijah Faber and UFC/Pride Bushido veteran Jen's Pulver. WEC is a great promotion that
UFC 86 Results - Joe Daddy Stevenson beats Gleison Tibau by guillotine choke 2008-07-05 22:36:00
Gleison Tibau is a tough guy at UFC's 155 who has size, strength, great ground game and some decent striking to go with it. He had a very close and competitive loss to Tyson Griffin recently. His strength and striking advantage definitely showed in the first round, but when it hit the ground at the end of the first he was quick to throw up a tight omoplata on Stevenson. UFC 86 Results - Josh Koscheck decisions Chris Lytle 2008-07-05 22:13:00
When the fight was standing Lytle did have the advantage even if only a little in the beginning and a little at the very end of the fight. Unfortunately for Chris
Lytle, Josh Koscheck was instructed better and took the fight to the ground where he was the much stronger of the two. It was very apparent as Koscheck was easily controlling and damaging Lytle from the top.

UFC 86 Results - Tyson Griffin decisions Marcus Aurelio 2008-07-05 21:34:00
Turns out Aurelio didn't have jitters for his UFC debut against Clay Guida, he just didn't have the tools required. Tonight's fight with Tyson Griffin
definitely cemented that fact. Aurelio seemed to have no game plan and just kind of of stood there throwing a random punch or two.
I forgot how much of an aggressive little tank of muscle Tyson Griffin was. He has some g Read more:Marcus
