Shoes Making History at Saks Fifth Avenue 2007-05-25 09:38:00 I love shoes more than anything ever created (okay maybe except my cell, car, and computer). This isn't just because shoes are a necessity, but because they are the perfect clothing item. Shoes can create height, perfectly shaped legs, and they will never make you feel fat. Saks FifthAvenue
obviously agrees with me because they are expanding the shoe section of their Manhattan flagship store to an entire floor, more specifically the 8th floor. That's not even the best part. Not only will the shoes get their own floor, but that floor will be the first floor in US history to be granted its own zip code from the US Postal Service. The new zip code will be 10022-SHOE.The expanded department will open in September for all of you shoe fanatics. I almost want to send the shoe department a thank you card for being totally amazing and so I can use their new zip code. I for one am overly stoked! Read more:History

Win a Free Tee with Gen Art Pulse 2007-05-24 11:08:00 Gen Art is one of my favorite organizations because they are all about the unknown. If you haven't heard of Gen Art before, you should Google them, but a brief explanation is they are an organization that showcases emerging fashion designers, musicians, artists, and filmmakers. I think its very important to bring in a fresh point of view to these small highly competitive worlds, and Gen Art is doing a great job.Gen Art Pulse
, is a great blog sponsored by Gen Art and they have come up with a great idea to spotlight fresh t-shirt designers. Its called Free T-Shirt Tuesdays. Each week they feature a different indie t-shirt designer and give readers a chance to win one of their fantastic tees. All you have to do is write them an enthralling email about why you want the t-shirt and send it to editor@genartpulse.com. This weeks stellar tee is by Jason Laurits, the designer behind Plaster. Click here to read all about Jason, and if you scroll down to the end you can see the winning entry fr
Jewelry with a Little Sugar and Spice 2007-05-28 11:45:00 Even though my style has always been a little more tom-boyish than most girls, I have always loved flowers and the color pink. Over the years I've gone through my dress like the guys stage where a couple pointless pair of Airwalk gym shoes came into play, but now I am more into mixing that bit of edge, that would normally be sved for boys, into an overall girlie outfit. Angelique, the owner of Angélique Boutique, makes perfect jewelry for any girl that is equal part sugar and spice.Growing up in a family with a ton of thrift market whizzes has made Angelique the brilliant designer she is today. When Angelique was little, her mom and grandma would take her on their treasure hunts to tons of thrift markets, antique stores, and vintage fairs. She learned the value of little mementos others might pass over, and now uses this love for tiny treasures to create beautiful jewelry. Whether she is using a swashbuckling skull cameo or a beautiful set of floral beads, the essence of past fashio Read more:Jewelry

Superhero Inspiration 2007-05-31 09:30:00 Like the majority of my generation, I'm sort of a slave to social networking sites. For me though, its not as much of a meet new people to be friends with thing, its more of a "oh my, she has awesome style. I wonder where she shops." kind of thing. One of the sites I'm on is called Buzznet.com. I'd describe it, but that's not the point of the story. I saw this picture one of the creators took of Amy Winehouse's shoes from Coachella, and I totally flipped. They are just mules, but I adore the comic book writing on them. It's superhero chic, and who doesn't want to be a superhero? This got me thinking about how I love people who have a style all their own. It was great seeing crazy style choices from people like Mischa Barton, Nicole Richie and Lindsay Lohan, but all too soon these style choices became mainstream and everyone is dressing like them. When this happens I like to turn to indie style makers like Cory Kennedy, Lily Allen and Amy Winehouse. All of them have different styl Read more:Superhero

FitFlops: A Portable Gym 2007-05-29 17:08:00 I'm an extremely lazy person. I used to be a cheerleader, and that's how I got my workout. It was fun and didn't feel like I was doing work; I'm not the type of person that willingly goes myself to the gym. Lately, the extent of my work out has been walking around NYC or the mall. Sometimes I even add extra difficulty by wearing heels instead of flats, but walking around New York in heels can be quite painful if your not careful.Luckily, my problem may be solved. A UK based company has come up with a genius idea called the FitFlop. They are flip flops that work your legs and bum while you walk, and you don't have to worry about killing your feet in heels. According to the website, "The FitFlop's uniquely built multi-density midsole activates muscles midstep to help tone your thighs, your calves and your glutes. In fact, FitFlops are biomechanically engineered to absorb shock, lessen joint strain, and recreate the gait of barefoot walking - but with a powerful new built-in micro- Read more:Portable
Trend Watch: Celeb Designers 2007-06-01 09:56:00 Recently I’ve caught wind of two new celebrity clothing lines. One is another line for Steve & Barry’s called Dear, and its created by Amanda Bynes. The other is yet another clothing line by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen called Elizabeth and James (goodness they must be busy). There are not many doubters of the twins design skills. They have already proved themselves by creating a successful tween line for Wal-Mart and a gorgeous high fashion line called The Row. Elizabeth and James will be their line to bridge the gap with items priced between $80 and $600 dollars and will be sold at Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, and Intermix starting this fall.On the other hand we have Amanda Bynes’ line for Steve & Barry’s. Many people are extremely skeptical as to how fashionable the line will be. There was tons of backlash to Sarah Jessica Parker’s Steve & Barry’s line, but I saw plenty of quite cute pieces when the line was shown on Oprah. Maybe there was only disappointment because S Read more:Designers

Baby Steps to Nu Rave 2007-06-05 10:01:00 I have never been a big fan of "Nu Rave" (or is it New Rave). Actually, I like the music not the fashion. That's also a lie, I probably dress fairly nu rave sometimes. I wear skinny jeans, leggings, and the inappropriately placed headband most of the time, but I for one am not an advocate of overly-loud neon clothes. For some reason I just can't bring myself to wear neon orange, hot pink, and lime green all at the same time. But, perhaps I've been looking at too many pictures on The Cobrasnake because this Matthew Williamson cropped jacket from Intermix really caught my eye. I could say its the over-sized Peter Pan collar that I'm fond of or even the batwing-esque sleeves and that would all be true, but the main reason I like this jacket its many colors. The colors are quite neon but they are definitely getting there. This may be a mini step toward a complete nu rave transformation. We Wanna Know: What do you guys think about Nu Rave? Would you be caught dead in neon or even this Ma
Donatella talks Style with Details 2007-06-04 12:23:00 I sometimes "read" men's magazines, but only when cute guys are on the cover. Though Tom Brady is quite the looker, he wasn't what drew me to the latest issue of Details. Each month there is a section called "10 Rules of Style
", and this month Donatella Versace fills guys in on her 10 rules. She talks about sporting the ever-popular unshaven look. I completely agree when she said, "Some men look great unshaven, others just look like they forgot to shave. Beards and mustaches can be really distinctive if you go for an earthy, rock and roll look like the Kings of Leon or the Killers." Branden Flowers is totally cute in an odd flower child way (no pun intended). She also gives guys a great tip on buying their girlfriend/wife gifts: "When buying a gift for your wife, do your research. Find out what she wants by subtle interrogation or ask her friends. You can read her other eight men's style tips, like what she thinks about jeans, in the June/July issue of Details which hits newsstands
Jewelry for the Princess in You! 2007-06-04 11:41:00 I'm never one to take my jewelry choices extremely serious. I love fun and sometimes slightly childish jewelry. That's why I was totally stoked to find out the super swank leather wrap bracelets I've been seeing everywhere were from Disney Couture. To be more specific, Kidada Jones, Quincy Jones' daughter designed them for Disney Couture. There has been a ton of talk about over-privileged people getting the opportunity to design pretty shitty lines for companies, but I really like Disney Couture jewelry and I think Kidada has done a great job molding her style to fit theirs. She even went as far as to have a party showing at her dad's for the new line last Thursday. Tons of Hollywood came to support her, but when I saw her jewelry I could care less who came. I was much too busy swooning over all the different extra-cute princess-themed wrap bracelets. After I was done swooning I decided to look for some other great Disney Couture jewelry (not designed by Kidada). I have a thing for Read more:Jewelry

Peparing for Battle? 2007-06-08 09:27:00 There has been a lot of talk on Pink Rock Candy about the growing number of celebrity designers, or should it be "designers"? There is obviously a growing trend of celebrities getting into the clothing business, and it seems now that many young designers are feeling the heat. There is a great article in the New York Times about the ever ominous shadow of the celebrity designer. One of the designers they talked to is Phillip Lim, who was honored with the award as fashions top emerging designer on Monday night at the CFDA Fashion Awards. Though this was definitely a great honor for him, he couldn't help but feel slighted. He was presented his award my Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who are obviously trying to take over the world one commercial industry at a time. After reading an article from WWD announcing the Olsens would be expanding their empire with yet another fashion label Lim says, "You think, 'Wow, how unfair.' " Even seasoned fashion designers like Vera Wang recognize the impact Read more:Battle
Forever 21 Follows the Leader 2007-06-07 16:07:00 Forever 21 is one of my favorite stores to find trendy items. I'm not one to pay big bucks for something I know will go out of style within the next six months, so the cheap prices at Forevs is perfect for my wallet. One thing I don't like about Forever 21 is the "a bomb just exploded all over", super-ADD disorder of the store.Well WWD spills the beans on how Forevs is trying to take the same approach stores like Target and H&M have taken, and it is adding a cohesive collection to the store in addition to their giant collection of mix-and-match items. Their new collection is called Twelve by Twelve and like the rest of the clothes from Forevs is quite wallet-friendly with every item under $100.Though most of the clothes for Forevs aren't appropriate to wear after you stop qualifying your self as a junior, the designer of Twelve by Twelve, Zanjani noted that the line is targeted for the "new 30." Which means everyone from the young Hollywood club because"...they all look like the Read more:Forever

Be a Bra Expert 2007-06-10 13:08:00 I think the most important piece of clothing for women is the bra. The wrong bra can turn an otherwise gorgeous outfit into a monstrosity. When I say "wrong bra", I not only mean the wrong style of bra, but I mean the wrong size. Even with this being such a giant issue, about 80% of women don't wear the correct size bra. This can cause back problems and aid in gravities terrible plot against a perky chest.I've seen entire episodes of Oprah and The Tyra Banks Show (I only watch them sparingly, I swear!) dedicated to finding the perfect bra for you including band size, the shape of the cup and the width of the strap (all important factors). There are a couple of great videos on a newish video site called VideoJug. It's sort of like YouTube except all the videos are instructional videos. In the Beauty and Style section there are two great instructional videos on bras. One teaches you how to measure your own bra size. If you go to places like Victoria's Secret, they will measure it for Read more:Expert

Colored denim can be worn so many ways, and I think the bold colors are great for summer. This outfit reflects my casual trendy style and is something I'd wear for lunch or shopping with friends on a sunny day.The gray cotton babydoll top is from H&M, the yellow skinny jeans are from Forever 21, and the ice cream cone necklace is from Oasis in London. Tarina Tarantino: My Secret Obsession 2007-06-14 09:30:00 I love, love, love Tarina Tarantino
jewelry. Tarina isn't a new find (for me at least), but this is the first time I've actually admitted my affection for her super-sparkly pieces. They are sort of a guilty pleasure because the frugal, probably sane, part of my mind tells me paying $300 for a cameo and some beads is absolutely loony, but the little girl in me that wants to be a princess and/or Barbie and wishes she had the money to blow. Most people know Tarina Tarantino because of her famous Pink Head collection. I'm sure you've seen at least one piece before. Pink Head is the spawn of a genius collaboration between Tarina and Sanrio. Its everyone's favorite kitten, Hello Kitty, with Tarina's signature pink hair. Tarina also designs super girlie Barbie jewelry. Ribbon, Swarovski crystals, and Barbie cameos are perfect together. It reminds me of being little and begging for a My Size Barbie.Though I adore all of her collections that remind me of my past, I can't help but to swoon Read more:Obsession

Addicted to Lulu's 2007-06-18 11:32:00 Its blazing hot outside, I'm out of school and my pool is totally clean and just warm enough to swim in without getting frost bite or hypothermia, but what am I doing? I'm perusing through the many pages of ultra swank clothes on Lulu's Fashion Lounge. If you haven't heard of Lulu's then you have been missing out, and thank goodness I'm here to inform you.The first time I went on Lulu's Fashion Lounge felt like the time I went to the Louvre in Paris. There was so much greatness I was overwhelmed. And, just like when I was at the Louvre I ended up looking at a few choice items then skedaddling because I knew it would take me forever to look at everything. There is that little phrase people like to use when rationalizing super expensive purchases, "quality over quantity", but at Lulu's you can get both quality and quantity. Most of their clothes are under $100 and are so cute I can't even explain. They also get tons of new stuff in all the time. The only downside is they don't Read more:Addicted
Remixing My Wardrobe with Rocawear 2007-06-22 12:11:00 The other day I was driving to this super far mall with my siblings. It was a really nice day, and we had the windows down and were blaring the radio. (I know, so obnoxious.) Blythe and I are obsessed with Amy Winehouse. The obsession is pretty much because she laughs in the face of her problems, but I digress. "Rehab" came on the radio and we realized Jay-Z was in the background, so we turned it up louder. Apparently, he did a remix to Amy Winehouse's "Rehab". It was sort of amazing, and my siblings and I started talking about how much we respect Jay-Z. He doesn't pigeon hole himself into solely being a rapper or even to solely represent black culture. We all decided if one of our children ever told us they wanted to be like 50 Cent we'd flip, but if they said they wanted to be like Jay-Z we'd totally be okay with it.Since I've officially decided I really respect Jay-Z, I went on Rocawear
.com to see what clothes I liked. Even though my style is not typically "urban", I think ther Read more:Remixing

Transformer Shoes 2007-06-21 09:42:00 I'm the type of girl that wears heels all the time, and when I say all the time I mean I would forsake safety and comfort just to sport a cute pair. I also drive a lot. I'm sort of the unofficial (unpaid) taxi in my family. So when I saw that there are high heels that convert into flats for a safer driving experience, I just had to check it out. There are two different brands that I've seen. The first is Camileon Heels. These shoes were created by Dr. David Handel, after he noticed how we women like to do a shoe change when walking in NYC. Honestly, the only reason I even dare to carry a large bag when I go to the city is so I can wear heels and then change into flats while I'm walking. He got the idea from the Transformer
s toys his sons were playing with. He decided to create a transformer shoe except it didn't come to life, it just converted from a 3 1/4" heel to a 1 1/2" heel. The other convetable shoe is by a company called Sheila Wheels. They are a UK insurance company and have
Music, Tees, and Myspace 2007-06-20 08:41:00 Yesterday I read on Vogue.uk Stella McCartney has designed a tank for UK's Glastonbury Festival (the biggest music festival in the UK). The tank is ultra hippie chic and screams "peace and love". Stella says the design was inspired by "all the Seventies airbrushed T-shirts my mum and dad used to get made." There are only going to be 5,000 printed, and you can only buy them at the Oxfam stall at Glastonbury. Even though the tanks are super limited that doesn't bum me out. The thing that gets me down is I don't live in the UK, and even if I did if I haven't snapped up tickets yet I won't be able to because they're sold out. So, instead of creating a game plan to lurk ebay after Glastonbury hoping one of the tanks will show up for a billion dollars, I decided to do the next best thing. I scoured through our friends on MySpace and found some great t-shirts for everyone. One of my favorite t-shirt companies is Glamour Kills. I've talked about them before, but they just released their Read more:Music
Its Never too Early to Start Planning 2007-06-26 09:24:00 Yesterday I spent the entire day with my mom an sister in this terrible bridal salon. Actually, the salon was small but quaint and the dresses were quite pretty. The horrible part as the ownerthe owner. She was terribly pushy and didn't even bring out the gown we came in for. My parents are renewing their vows next summer for their 20th anniversary, and my mom wanted us to see her in the dress she picked. Unfortunately, we never had the opportunity to view the gown she and my dad think is so fantastic, but I did develop quite a taste for cake (wedding cake in particular with lots of frosting-flowers and fondant). I also started thinking about what I wanted for my wedding. After going through the heaps of wedding mags we have, I decided finding the dress would be easy (I love, love, love the Amsale gown on the left), but finding the perfect shoe would be a feat in itself. My criteria for the perfect wedding shoe is a high heel that's affordable and can be worn after the wedding. Rock Your Style: Joni Ong 2007-06-29 09:23:00 We have our second Pink Rock Style
Icon. She's a world traveler, is totally crafty, and is such a fashionista! I give to you...JONI ONGName: Joni Andrea OngAround the Interweb: LimeBasilHer Style:I'm wearing a pink H&M tank top with a purple pouf balloon skirt from Xanaka (high street chain in France). I added some style to my basic top by wearing a long charm necklace I made out of an Eiffel Tower keychain (bought it when I was studying in France) and an old flower charm (from my mom's teenage days). Not seen in the picture are my purple snakeskin ballet flats by Sapato Manila (a local Philippine store). I think I wore this outfit to a family dinner.I love this outfit because it epitomizes my style of glamorized basic. It's the perfect mix of casual and chic. I like to wear trendy, fashionable pieces but I try to balance it with classic, everyday basics. I believe that amongst all the chic clothes in a girl's closet, there should always be perfectly fitted tees and tanks.
Playing Dress-up for "The 4th" 2007-06-28 13:04:00 The 4th of July is next Wednesday, and my parents have made a reservation at their favorite restaurant. They literally go to this place at least twice a week; everyone knows their names, and they have a specific waiter and table. Its actually really awkward going with them because I hate feeling all posh because to me my parents seem really fake when they go. Other than the initial awkward feeling I get, I actually really like the restaurant because its right on the Long Island Sound, the food is amazing, and the chef (whom my parents have made friends with) is extremely nice.Overall, I'm quite excited for the Fourth. I love fireworks (loud noises and sparkles...such a winner) and I love getting dressed up. Since I'm so stoked about this, I've decided to make a dream outfit, and by dream I mean if I had an infinite supply of money or just $562.95 to blow. I wanted the outfit to be something I would actually wear, so I didn't want to make it too glamourous. I also wanted the colors
We Will Always Love You Liz Claiborne 2007-06-27 16:22:00 Its odd for me when I find out a designer has died. A lot of times I debate on whether to write about it, but I usually don't because I don't have enough to say. Today though is different, I just found out Liz Claiborne died yesterday morning, June 27, 2007, at 78 years fabulous. Right now the cause of death is unknown, but the shock hits all the same. She started her fashion company in 1976 Art Ortenberg (her husband) and two other parties. In 1989, Liz and Art retired as active managers, and in 1989 I was one. That fact may seem pointless, but it means everything to me. When she retired, I was too young to even read, but at one-year-old I probably knew what Liz Claiborne meant. She was the first designer I ever heard of, and when I was younger I'm sure I thought she was the be all, end all. I went shopping and my mother and grandmother would ooh and aah over a Liz Claiborne this or that. I'm not sure I've ever personally purchased anything Liz Claiborne, but the respect in her st Read more:Will Always
Red Hot...Seeing Red...All of the Above 2007-06-27 15:23:00 When I was in 6th, I wore the same pair of sunglasses almost everyday. They were small, pink sunnies with plastic frames and had rhinestones on the sides. I thought they were so hot and would wear them rain, snow, sleet, or shine (those are the four weather patterns in Mich, and sometimes all four happen in the same day). I pretty much had 3 different styles when it came to wearing them: on my face blocking those rays, strategically placed in in my hair as an accessory and nothing more, or as a headband keeping my hair out of my face. The funny thing is I just found them in a box about a month ago. That makes my 6th grade sunglasses the oldest pair of glasses I own (UV blocking or otherwise). (Un)fortunately, Chelsea of today is different than 6th grade Chelsea. I'm much more knowledgeable about important and unimportant things, I know what I want to do with my life (I think), my style has changed drastically, I have these great boobs that I for sure didn't have before, and I can't Read more:Seeing

Summer Shoegasm: Steve Madden 'Tinah' Pumps 2007-07-03 09:51:00 A couple days ago I found my new shoe obsession. I was just walking around Macy's shoe department with Blythe, whining because I knew I would never be able to find the Marc Jacobs shoes I want, and then BAM! There they were in all there nu-rave glory. They were the most adorable shoes I'd seen in at least a month. At that moment I was inspired to write a letter to SteveMadden
thanking him for creating my perfect summer shoe. That letter was never written, but the shoes have their own post now so I guess that's better. The Steve Madden
'Tinah' pumps not only give off the perfect 50s flare, when I tried them on they totally made my feet look small. I'm not really sure why that's such a draw, but I do know I hate when shoes make my feet look hobbit-size. These patent leather shoes would be compliment any otufit amazingly, and not only come in pink, teal, and yellow (though that is my favorite). They also come in black and red, silver, white, gold and black, and snake skin and black Read more:Summer

Fourth of July Sales 2007-07-02 10:03:00 The Fourth of July is one of my favorite holidays. This isn't just because I love the loud boom of the fireworks or the smell of my dad's charcoal grill (the taste of the food is so much better than with gas grills). The Fourth of July is awesome because it inspires our favorite stores to have major sales. One of those stores that is having a major sale is Shopbop.com. In this sale you could receive up to $100 off your purchase price from now until 11:59 p.m. CST on July 4. This is how it works: for orders of $100 or more you get $20 off your order, for purchases $250 or more its $50 off and for purchase $500 and more you get $100 off your purchase. So, by my calculations if your spending limit is $500 you could technically spend $600 on clothes at Shopbop.com since you would get $100 off.
