Fashion > Rumors
2007-03-14 23:06:00
Every week I get sent sneak peeks of Life & Style Weekly's fashion sections. I only post about the sections I truly like because spam posts are annoying. This week among the montage of other celeb inspired articles is a great article entitle "The Hottest New 'IT' Shoes". I'm a shoe whore so I had to post this. For each category they give you the celeb splurge, the great buy, and the best deal. They feature the cutest peep-toe mary janes by Jessica Simpson; I never really thought about a peep-toe mary jane, but they're devastatingly adorable and I absolutely need them (by "need" I mean want really badly). You can also read their other fashion and beauty articles like "Sexy Bandage Dress" (aka slinky, tight-fitting, Spanx required dresses) or another favorite "Daring Trend: Blue Nails". I paint my nails obsessively and they've been almost every color including blue. Honestly I think blue isn't as daring as it is cute, but we'll just go with it. If you're not really into any of

I Can't get Enough SJP
2007-03-15 15:14:00
Some people may be fed up with the overwhelming number of celebs trying to become designers, but I totally dig it. I think it makes so much sense because the normal person gets most of their fashion inspiration from celebrities and not from looking at every single runway show known to man like some of us do (I have way too much time on my hands). So, when I found out on Tuesday Sarah Jessica Parker has designed a sportswear line called Bitten, I was obviously psyched, but I wanted to wait until I had all the info. I love everything SJP, which is most likely because of my obsession with Sex and the City. She's short like me, but she pulls of some of the most haute couture looks. When I heard about Bitten, I thought it was going to be another one of the many lines on the extensive list Macy's has of celeb fronted clothing lines, but much to my surprise Bitten is going to be sold and Steve & Barry's. Steve & Barry's is already one of my fave stores to buy cheapo tees and jeans (AN

Jewelry from the Skye
2007-03-16 20:54:00
I'm sort of obsessed with Milly's S/S 2007 line. All of the clothes were vibrant, fun, and flirty. I loved that the colors popped, but weren't electric blue or hot pink. Though I love those colors, it was nice to see pastels work in the same way. I'm also quite fond of the necklaces designer, Michelle Smith, paired with many of the dresses. They were big and bold, but not in the giant clock on a chain Flava Flav way (I miss Flavor of Love). So, I went out searching for a necklace like the ones the models were wearing, and I found some cute ones on this great webstore Model Lisse; the necklaces are made by CC Skye. They only detail that isn't there are the big pink satin bows, but I figure that can be easily fixed with a trip to the craft store.PHOTO CREDIT: NYMag.com

Housekeeping is No Fun
2007-03-16 20:33:00
NOTICEI have a few housekeeping things to talk about. First things first, you guys may have noticed a survey in my sidebar. I would love you for ever if you filled it out. It's sponsored by Coutorture and it will help me find out a little more about you guys. It's not very long or terribly intrusive; it doesn't even ask your name (though I do get very giddy when you guys say hi and leave comments). I also think I'm going to be changing the look of PRC up a bit (if I ever decide on what I want it to look like, buh bye Barbie?). I don't think it will be too drastic, I just love playing on photoshop. Thanks Bunches!P.S. Real news coming soon!

Columbus Fashion Week?
2007-03-17 19:42:00
While scrolling through the fashion forums at Style.com, a post titled, "Fashion Week in Columbus , Ohio" caught my eye. In the thread, there was a link to a short video montage about Columbus Fashion Week (obviously). Apparently this past week has been the first annual "fashion week" in Columbus, OH. There is even a website with pictures from some of the fashion shows. The local designers have made the decision to ban together and create an entire fashion week instead of having separate small venue fashion shows. Their hopes are to make Columbus a "fashion capital" that could rival New York, Paris, and Milan. As impressed as I probably should be, I'm still very skeptical. I'm originally from the Midwest, Michigan to be exact, and I just can't imagine Columbus, or any other Midwestern city for that matter, become a fashion capital. There are tons of talented people that come out of the Midwest, but it will be more than a challenge to shake the overall-wearing, cow-tipping persona tha

Time for Me to Cover Up (For Now)
2007-03-20 19:24:00
Each year, I like 158.3% of women (yes, that's all and then some), have the same problem. Summer is nearing faster than expected and my swimsuits from last year are annihilated from hardcore pool and beach usage. What do we do? We go to the stores pick out the cutest swimsuit we can find and then sit in the dressing room criticizing every imperfection. Swimsuit shopping is not fun, but it's something we have to do. I don't have a solution to this problem other than shopping online and doing the body critique at home. But, while I was surfing the web, I found something that made me truly happy. Delia*s has a great set of extended torso one-piece swimsuits for girls (like me) with long torsos. Anyone who has a long torso knows how difficult it is to wear one-pieces because either the swimsuit is too big in the boobs and bum section while it fits your torso, or you buy the size that fits your "lovely lady lumps" but your torso is too long and you risk your bits and pieces falling out.

The Sisters that Model Together...
2007-03-20 16:25:00
In the spirit of talking about myself, since I do it daily, I wanted to share a great experience I had two weekends ago. I've talked a lot about 31 Corn Lane and the Sperbers (and I'm sure I'll talk a lot more about them), but Blythe and I had the opportunity to be their super cute models. First off, the only modeling experience we've ever had is having fakey photo shoots around the house for Facebook and MySpace, so we were really nervous in the most excited way possible. When we got there we got to put on the cutest clothes and play dress up like we did when we were little and playing in our moms closet (she had the hottest stiletto ankle boots). Not only did we get to hang with Amy and Heather, but we met they're super cool beaus. During the photo shoot we smiled and made tons of cute-like faces for the camera (I'm sure some weren't so cute) and danced around to the new Modest Mouse cd which I just bought. It's great! All in all, it was a fun filled day pretending to be a mo

Do You Want It?
2007-03-20 02:42:00
I'm the type of girl that will spend hours skimming through fashion shows trying to find a common thread between them. I think it may have something to do with the OCD my brother claims I have (sometimes things just have to be put in order). It makes me all giddy inside when people do the scouring for me; I love have more time to be lazy! Saks Fifth Avenue is one of the companies that has made me fall because they are doing the work for me. They have started their own trend finder called Want It! , where they find the top 9 trends for apparel and accessories from each season. Want It! not only finds the trends but gives you shopping choices from great designer lines like Dolce & Gabbana, Valentino, Vera Wang Lavender Label, and Jimmy Choo (swoon). There is even a Want It! for guys giving them the top nine styles with designers like Prada Linea Rossa, Diesel, and Ermenegildo Zegna. This is perfect when you want to dress your new style-phobic boy-toy or this is for any guy readers I

Steve Madden Made My Day
2007-03-21 16:51:00
Apparently Steve Madden wants to be my everything. Not only do I continuously obsess over his shoes, I just found out that he is now making dresses. WHAT!? That means I could technically wear head-to-toe Steve Madden and not look cheesey like the people who try to do the same with Louis Vuitton (that's always a laugh). I'm completely speechless and my little fingers have no idea what to type. That is the honest to God truth. I saw it on Hip Candy, flipped out for a second, and then started writing this. The dresses are so astonishingly cute; I just want to buy them all. The only problem with that plan is I'm not sure how I would explain that to my parents. I'm trying to figure out which holidays are coming up that I get presents for, unfortunately there aren't any (unless you count my half birthday). All I can manage to think of is go look at the fantasia that is Steve Madden Dresses.

They've Got a Green Thumb
2007-03-21 15:56:00
I may be really good at most sciences, but I suck at environmental science. It's more of a environmental science doesn't interest me in the least, but I do know that something we are doing has changed weather patterns and may very well continue to change weather patterns. The general term is global warming, but I think that's misleading because it may actually end up being a lack of warmth we find in the end (The Day After Tomorrow anyone?). The good news is, the fashion industry is begining to do their part in solving this issue by starting to use organic materials and some companies have even started a line of completely organic apparel or made their entire company organic. This change is most noticeable in companies like Organic Apparel, Royal Apparel, Zuri Organic Apparel, Anvil Knitwear, and even American Apparel. Each of these companies are starting to sell entirely organic cotton tees, tanks, and with some companies fleece, thongs, bags, and hoodies. Many of theses companies

I Can't Sew, but I Can Shop
2007-03-23 15:04:00
154.3 cheers for vintage and handmade one of a kind clothing! I love knowing I'm the only one with something. I think it's that catty female side of me coming out. I got really huffy one time because I saw a girl on the train with my exact same coat. It didn't help that she was sitting right in front of me. Fortunately, this problem can be easily solved by buying some extra adorable goodies (for not a lot of green) from SeamSewSwell. This is almost perfect because I don't have very much cash at the moment and since SeamSewSwell is an online boutique, I don't have to deal with crazy crowds at the prepubescent hang-out some people call the mall.SeamSewSwell creator Victoria Martin makes all the clothes and recruits her siblings to be the extra-stylin' models. This makes me so psyched because I love when companies keep things in the family (sibs are great). Though there isn't as many handmade pieces as there are vintage the pieces that are available are fab-u-lous. I sort of have

Anna Sui (almost) at Forever 21
2007-03-22 22:29:00
Forever 21 always finds a way to make me smile. This time my day-brightening smile has been summoned by a simple shirt called the Maven Top. Forever 21 loves to take the cutest, most fashionable things and make them their own. So obviously when they saw Anna Sui's darling sweet and sour Spring 2007 collection they couldn't resist getting inspired and providing the world with the previously mentioned shirt. Sui's collection had two adorable "don't mess with me" white and black striped dresses with large red roses at the bottom. Forever 21 however has taken almost the exact same print and turned it into a flirty inexpensive shirt for us normal peeps to buy. I don't hate Forever 21 for taking ideas, because technically that is what they are supposed to do (right?), but I do find it amusing how it is a blatant knock-off. I almost giggle inside thinking about it. Don't worry though, I still love Forever 21 and would give it a kiss if people in the mall would stare. Since I can't kiss

Marc Jacobs: Part of My Shoe Love Affair
2007-03-26 20:32:00
I doubt you could tell from my past posts, but I'm a shoe whore. My only problem is I'm very particular about what shoes I buy, so many times I end up buying no shoes. There are those rare occasions where I see a pair of shoes and I know I need them so bad I would, trade my first born for them. A while ago I saw one of those devastatingly gorgeous shoes. I honestly fell in love, and when I say in love I mean if I could find a way, I might marry them or maybe just buy them and wear them when I get married. This girl Hanna Beth (right) was wearing them in this article in Paper Magazine which I actually didn't buy, but totally should have. They are white patent leather Marc Jacobs shoes except at the time I didn't know who made them. I've been searching forever and ever to find these shoes. When I say searching, I mean to the point of stalking. MySpace Livejournal, Buzznet, you name it, I checked it. Finally I figured out they were Marc Jacobs , but then realized they are from his Fa

The Great Gucci Raid
2007-03-26 16:33:00
I know I have terrible road rage and have joked about running into things on purpose, but never have I been in an accident on purpose. But apparently, a couple of crazy thieves in Sydney like crashing vehicles into store windows. Early Monday morning in Australia, some fools crashed a stolen car into the store window of the Gucci Boutique on Castlereagh Street. They stole thousands of dollars worth of Gucci goodies and then skedaddled sans the car. This is completely amusing to me. Just imagining someone running through a store window makes me smile a bit. It's almost like something out of the movies. Another thing that is fairly amusing in a terrible kind of way is there have been multiple robberies of couture boutiques on this street. Recently the Louis Vuitton and the David Jones shops where robbed by people wielding sledgehammers. I think these stores need to take a page from the stores in Detroit and get bullet proof glass. That may not stop cars from running through them, but i

Sequins: Not So Scary
2007-03-27 23:34:00
My entire life I have had a love/hate relationship with sequins. Sometimes I completely obsess over them, but others I get those scary flashbacks of the sequin dresses my grandma used to wear with the giant dime size sequins. Though I'm fairly timid when it comes to sequins, I love things that sparkle (I'm like a ferret). When I see these fantastically gorgeous and shiny dresses everyone from Sarah Jessica Parker to Hilary Duff have been wearing, I get really excited and sort of scared. One good thing about sequins is when you have a sequin mini on, you won't have to worry about flashing a little too much tush because the sequins weigh the dress down.Life & Style Weekly has a spread in their April 9th issue showing six of their fave sequin looks. Obviously I love the blue Alice + Olivia mini. SJP always looks so classy and cute. I just want to live in her closet and fondle all her clothes. The gray Michael Kors dress that Eva Longoria has on is totally cute too, but I feel like it d

Sometimes Water can be Evil
2007-03-27 17:30:00
I'm a gossip fiend on top of being completely obsessive when it comes to fashion. So when there's fashion gossip, I go bonkers. I mean I get almost as excited as I would if Ryan Reynolds was standing on my door step (a girl can dream). A couple of days ago Sir Elton John turned the big 6-0, and in celebration he had a giant bash at Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine. It was super rainy, but that didn't keep tons of a-listers and not so a-listers from heading out to party with the original divo. Unfortunately the rain caused a little bit of a commotion when Donatella Versace arrived and slipped while going up the stairs. Poor girlie her dress was so pretty-ish and the stupid rain tripped her. This sort of reminded me of last nights The Hills when Whitney fell down the stairs on Good Morning America. It's all good though because both of them dusted off the dirt/water and embarrassment and got up with grace and poise. Being a super clumsy person, this makes me really proud of the

Out with the Old, In with the New (sorta)
2007-03-29 15:45:00
Today marks the end of an era, at least for me. I’m sure this didn’t actually happen today, but it did happen in the recent past. Anyway, I read on Vogue.uk Hedi Slimane is officially saying goodbye to Dior. After rocky negations over his contract and reports saying he wants to start his own label, Dior and Slimane are parting ways to make room for a new creative director. Who will be the new creative director, you ask? Obviously it will be Kris Van Assche. LVMH has picked Assche to head Dior because of his extensive knowledge of the ins and outs of the company. Asscche previously worked under Slimane for about 7 years. According to WWD Dior wants a change in direction, but want to keep they’re heritage. In my opinion, everyone always tries to change but stay true to their roots and that barely ever happens. I think if they are going to change directions then go all the way, and stop with all the timid baby steps. I loved Slimane’s out there style and will be sad to see him go.

He's a Model and Rockstar
2007-03-28 22:41:00
Anyone in my family can atest to my fairly strange obsession with FUSE. I will turn it on at 11 in the morning and let the TV watch me all day. I don't truly care about the music videos, though I do like seeing Adam Lazzara and Frank Iero's cute faces constantly basis. I just like listening to music, and the radio starts to piss me off after a while. I like top 40 to a point and then I start to wonder where's all this other great music that may not have made the list?I know your probably like, "Okay Chelsea, this is a fashion blog...", but music and fashion mix so much I can't even begin to explain it. Music shows up everwhere from the runway shows to inspiration for designers to musicians actually becoming designers. In an article I just read this on Style.com music and fashion collide in the form of a model also being in a band. The band is called Bloody Social, and is fronted by Calvin Klein model Jaime Burke (second from left). The article was about a recent show they had that

Something I'm Good At
2007-03-30 16:34:00
Yesterday Blythe and I had a very interesting convo about the best jobs. We officially decided that the best job in the world is a mobile band tee display. For those of you who don't speak bull-shit that would be a professional band tee wearer. Sure there are models for print adds/web stores, but models don't go on tour with them (just go with it). We figure we practically live in t-shirts anyway, it would be awesome to tour with a band, and on a fairly shallow, pig-headed note, we have the perfect size boobs for tees (What!?). We figure if we are pitching this idea to bands which usually consist of all guys, adding something about our chest might distract them long enough to agree. This led me to think of the different types of band tees I could wear.First there is the band tee for bands that are currently touring. That means any of the millions of signed and unsigned bands as long as they are creative enough to throw their band name on a t-shirt. I have mixed feelings about these s

Look at All the Pretty Colors
2007-03-31 18:21:00
I remember in the 90s colored jeans were all the rage. I'm pretty sure I had at least a green pair, a pink pair, and a red pair. I was pretty stylish for barely knowing how to pick out my own clothes (my mom dressed me well). Then all of the sudden I was sporting my green jeans and some girl in my class was like "eww, who wears colored jeans?" Well guess what random girl in my 4th grade class, I bet you're going to be wearing colored jeans really soon, and I will be laughing inside knowing that I have my sweet revenge thanks to the trend cycle. I personally love wearing color, so why should I restrict the brights from traveling below the waist and above the ankle? The first place I looked in my search for the cutest pair of colored jeans was Urban Outfitters. It seemed so obvious to me, but I can't really understand why. I'm glad I visited their site though because they have tons of cute colored skinny jeans from Lux. The colors range from pastels to ultra-bright "technicolors". I c

All Accessories, All the Time
2007-04-02 20:35:00
I've just been informed of the most amazing thing ever. I know there are tons of all accessory webstores, but I think Rimistyle may be my favorite. Unlike many solely accessory driven websites, Rimistyle doesn't stock it's hypothetical shelves with cheapy plastic jewelry (not to say I have a problem with cheap and plastic). Rima Shah is a world traveler who has expressed her love for fashion doing everything from retail to styling. Rimistyle sells tons of extra charming belts, bracelets, earrings, handbags, and necklaces. And if you don't know what you should buy for a certain event or outfit, you can use their personal shopper! Having a personal shopper on line is potentially the best thing ever. Quite honestly Rima is a woman of my own heart. We both love to travel and have a soft spot for cute accessories.I've got a thing, yes "a thing", for necklaces and earrings, and I've found some really great ones on Rimistyle. The first necklace that caught my eye was the Black Beaded R

Just Don't!
2007-04-04 19:12:00
What do you do when you are the Ex-Vice President of Dior's Japanese subsidiary company Christian Dior K.K.? The obvious road would be to bask in the glory of helping perfect an amazing company, or I personally would spend my oodles of yen on cute clothes from every other design house just because I would find it ironic. But, after reading this article, I have realised the error of my ways. When you become an Ex-VP of Christian Dior K.K. like 37-year-old Guillaume Monnier, you are supposed to get arrested for smuggling 8.8 grams of cocaine into Japan. No, your eyes are not deceiving you. The genius that is Monnier decided it would be smart to mail himself the cocaine from his house in Paris to his house in Japan. Personally, I find you should try to keep your mail free of any sort of white powders legal or not; otherwise the packages may not make it to you, and if they do, they may be hand delivered by a couple of nice guys in uniforms. Guillaume admitted to the police he has used co

Words Are Cute...Sometimes
2007-04-04 17:28:00
When it comes to t-shirts I'm sort of picky. I love them to death, but there are things that I usually try to avoid when buying them. One is the potential of having a bad 90s flashback. I hae it when the once perfectly fitting shirt has now become a midriff tee reminiscent of something Cher would have worn in Clueless. The other thing I'm wary about is tees with words. Actually, it's more like tees with phrases. Walking around with "Boys Suck" or what not plastered on your chest wasn't cute when it was IN a couple years ago and it isn't cute now. This is why I was timid when first hearing about a company called Crooked Monkey that primarily markets to the college crowd. The first thing that comes to mind when I put the words "college", "t-shirts", and "funny slogans" together are the idiotic shirts you see on all the stereotypical frat guys in movies. Though Crooked Monkey has it's fair share of those tees that I'm 157.4% sure would be best sellers to half the guys I know, they

Better Than a 4-Leaf Clover
2007-04-04 01:26:00
Yesterday I took a little jab at plastic jewelry, but the truth is I really like plastic jewelry. This is partially due to the fact that I'm a five year old and will constantly play with anything I wear that dangles or has the ability to make noise. This leads to a box full of broken jewelry that needs to be taken to the jeweler to get fixed. That's why places that sell inexpensive sometimes plastic jewelry like Claire's, Forever 21, and Target are the perfect places for me to shop. But, this time it's not about the big guns. I found this amazing bracelet from a UK webstore called Lady Luck Rules Ok. It was truly lucky that I found this bracelet. It's called the Paris Bracelet and is a plastic bangle that's 4 cm wide (about 1.5 inches) and has "Paris" emblazoned across it in Swarovski crystals. The bangle comes in 3 colors (blue, pink, and yellow). I think the blue one is the prettiest because I like the pink Swarvski crystals. As soon as I saw it, fond memories of a super cute

Tim's Back, Let's Party!
2007-04-09 17:33:00
A while ago I received a friend request on MySpace from Tim Gunn's new book, Tim Gunn: A Guide to Quality, Taste & Style. I got all giddy inside because I love Tim Gunn. I have even adopted "Make it Work" as my mantra (it's good in every situation). After the initial wave of excitement, I remembered my fave host might not be a host anymore. What would I do without his dry sense of humor and crazy anecdotes only he understands. Truthfully some of the funniest things happen during Project Runway marathons because who doesn't love hours and hours of Timmy, Michael, and Heidi. One night I made this hysterical rap using "make it work!", "underwhelmed", and "Where's Andre?"; I laughed until I cried, and then my abs hurt for a week. Anyway, I got really bummed out that I would see crazy Tim Gunn on the TV and then proceeded to have a 30 min convo with Blythe about Tim and how much we love him. Thankfully, today I read on People.com, Tim Gunn is coming back! I think I may throw him a

No Sewing Required, Just Click!

I'm way envious of people who can sew. My mom tried to teach me when I was in grade school, but the only thing I ended up making was sucky beanie baby-esque things for one my brother's 1st grade projects. I have tons of patterns for clothes I was going to make, but that fell through; I can't even figure out how to thread the bobbin anymore. My mom is a great seamstress. She has made dresses for both me and Blythe for homecoming and she made the skirt of my first prom dress after an unfortunate internet shopping experience. This envy tends to steer me to clothing companies that remake vintage clothes like the one Eve Chrust created called eve*lynn. I think being able to take something you find at a thrift store or Salvation Army and make it totally stellar is something everyone should learn to do. Eve started selling eve*lynn to classmates in 2004. She ran her business right out of her college dorm room, and just last year started her first RTW line. She likes to experiment with dif

Shoes are a Dirty Habit
2007-04-10 22:25:00
My entire life I have been a collector of all things unnecessary. When I was little it was stuffed animals. I had at least 50 stuffed animals, and I had no idea what to do with them. On the rare occasions when I actually cleaned my room, I would pile them at the head of my bed, but they'd end up on the floor just as soon as I decided to hop my tush under the covers. Fortunately, I have grown out of my stuffed animal stage (an 18-year-old with tons of stuffies is kind of strange), but I now collect something more expensive than a teddy bear. Currently, I like to buy super cute shoes that I end up wearing only once and on some occasions I never wear them at all. I think it may be a right of passage for women to buy shoes unnecessarily because shoes never make you look fat, but it's a terrible habit none the less. I've fallen hard for these two pairs of Christian Louboutin shoes. Thank God I can't seem to find a place to buy them because I would find some naive person that I could co

Memories...
2007-04-14 01:42:00
WARNING: This is relatively un-fashion related!I just flipped a little because Nylon TV interviewed Hanson. Yes, I'm talking about the long-haired, "Mmmbop" singing, brothers that were my first musician-type crushes way back in '97 (that would have made me 8, wow!). No, they're not dead! I totally loved them and spent excessive amounts of money on mags like Teen Bop, and whatever other teeny mags there were, just so I could have every single article and poster of them. Blythe and I honestly had a binder with 3" rings FULL of Hanson stuff. Anyway, I saw that Nylon TV "interviewed" them and I just had to watch it. Fond memories came floating to the surface and that giddy feeling in my stomach begin to form, but then I remembered they're all married with 3264856 children or something like that, so the appeal wore off. But, I can say Hanson inspired my first sort of faddish shoe purchase. I was so obsessed with those boys (especially little Zachy), I had my parents buy me a pair of cla

"Interns Do It For Free"
2007-04-12 16:15:00
I recently posted about tees with witty slogans from Crooked Monkey, and Blythe made a joke about the "Interns Do It For Free" tee. She said, "I totally need that "Interns do it for free" tee shirt---it's the story of my life. lol :) Actually, it's the story of yours too, Chels.". The Fashionista from That’s Chic read that comment and wondered where we had interned and how we went about getting these ever-elusive internships. I know this might not apply to some of you because you’re already super sexy and successful in whatever field you may be in, but this is a great question and can be used not only when trying to get an internship but when applying for almost anything.Blythe has known she wanted to be a writer for… I can’t remember how long, but she has wanted to be an editor for a major magazine at least since she picked up her first CosmoGirl with The Toos as editor-in-chief. She is also my idea of the super intern. When we lived in Mich, she interned with a local magazi
