Princess Charming: Betsey Johnson
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Today is the last day of fashion week, and I'm sort of sad. I have spent my week looking at every single collection and killing my memory space on my computer by saving every single look that came down the runway. This as pointless as it sounds will save me tons of time in the future, at least I hope. Anyway on the the fun stuff.I feel in love with Betsey Johnson over and over again, 61 times to be exact. I went wild for every look. The show started with two models dressed as french maids. This set the mood for the "School of Charm" theme. Each piece was demure in an entirely B.J. way. Yes there was the occasional super short shorts, pin-up style, and the ever present mini, but it was done with such grace. The tiered, plum organza dress was one of my absolute favorites. It screams prom, but the prom theme is Sex and the City. I also couldn't take my eyes off of the satiny blush dress with rosettes on each tier of the skirt. There was also a ton 1/2 of lace and polka-dots. Here are so

Heatherette Takes Fashion "Over the Rainbow"
1970-01-01 00:59:59
I have to admit, one of the primary reasons I got into fashion was Heatherette . It was my rebellious nature coming out. I didn't want to be a fiend for the typical designers like Louis Vuitton or Chanel, though now I do love them. But I digress, Heatherette was and still is the off beat and sort of kooky label that completely mocks everything the "fashion world" is supposed to be. Even to this day, people wonder why Richie and Traver still get to show at Bryant Park, but the truth is people love Heatherette not for the wearablility (totally made that up) of the clothes, but for the show. It's sort of like going to a Panic! at the Disco show, who cares if they only have 13 songs and Brendon squeks sometimes, the concert was great because it was a spectacle. People love to be entertained, and just sending a skinny girl in a pretty dress down a runway isn't entertaining, but enough about the fashion show itself, lets get down to the knitty gritty, the clothes.First off, I do have to sa

Zac Posen: Cute and Talented
1970-01-01 00:59:59
I'm smitten, and this time it isn't with the clothes. Okay, I adore the clothes too, but I think Zac Posen is such a cutie. There's something about tall, dark, and handsome with puppy-dog eyes that makes me swoon. In all honesty, in some cases tall isn't even necessary. This really has nothing to do with fashion, except that he's one of my favorite designers. So, I'll do something constructive and actually talk about his Fall/Winter 2007 collection.Everyone knows Zac Posen for his grandiose gowns with frills and tulle all over the place. I just made it sound like his designs were haphazard, which they weren't, but in the past they haven't been as tame as his fall collection. This collection was extremely structured with sleek lines up the wazoo. The models can down the runway like femme fatales. The clothes were sexy and charming, but gave the impression the model wearing them could quite possible kick your ass. That is my favorite type of outfit; the kind that keeps people gu

For all you Youtubers out there...
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Lately I've been doing a lot of youtubing (I think I just made up a verb) and on the youtube sidebar there is a little section called Director Videos. Well in between watching funny videos of Adam Lazzara and such, I keep seeing tons of fashion week videos pop up over there. I'm a big procrastinator so I finally clicked the link today and have officially ordained IMGVideoClips the best fashion youtube site. So go check out the videos in all their fashion week glory. AND, if you haven't already done so I suggest you check out the NylonMagazineTV youtube site too. There's always tons of great interviews. The recently interviewed Mat Devine from Kill Hannah. I'll do something more substantial later, but for now I leave you with a video on Celebrity Trends.

As Pretty as a Peony
1970-01-01 00:59:59
A look that popped up all over the runways in September was completely gorgeous flower inspired dresses. I know flowers for spring, big surprise. But it wasn't as much of a floral print as actual flowers or dresses that make you feel like the prettiest peony. YSL sent many garden-nymph inspired dresses down the runway that looked like a meadow of violets one of which was a gorgeous purple mini-dress. Valentino, Thakoon, Rodarte and Alexander McQueen both sent down a flowery dress or two. Though McQueen's idea may be the extreme with a dress that looks slightly like a topiary, this flower child trend is one of my favorites for spring. My problem was how do I sport it with out looking like a set piece from the Secret Garden. This question was answered when I saw this uber-cute headband in Glamour. I know the head band is pretty expensive but it's so adorable, and I absolutely need it. The flowers on the headband are made of dupioni silk and accented with white Austrian crystals. The h

Spoons: For Eating and Wearing
1970-01-01 00:59:59
The weight issue is something that as been polarizing the fashion world of late. What is skinny? What is fat? On one side there are people like Tyra Banks telling women it's okay to have a little junk in the trunk. She even went as far as to tell her critics "kiss my fat ass" on a recent show. On the other side are shows like VH1's The Agency where on the first episode, agents called multiple female models fat when to me they looked healthy. Which side is right? There is always the argument that clothes look better of skinnier girls, but the problem with that is, we as a people are extremely impressionable. When the media shows us sickeningly skinny girls slinking down the runway, our brain says that's what beauty is and I NEED to bee like that. This is why so many people have eating disorders in today's society. This battle of the bulge brings me to the real reason I'm writing. There is a great company called SpoonFed Art. SpoonFed Art is a company that makes gorgeous pendants ou

I read somewhere that if you write down everything you want and the act like you already have it you'll end up getting it. Honestly, I'm not sure if it works, but I'm optimistic so I tried. One of the things on my list was a ultra cute trapezey dress. I wasn't really specific so I've decided to do a little research on exactly what kind of dress I want. So, I've done a little research and there's so many different trapeze artist style dresses out it crazy. Everyone from Aquascutum to Rag & Bone sent one of the swanky shifts down the runway for Spring/Summer 2007.Réyes showed a super cutesie striped mini, which I'm 136.5% sure I would put on and never take off. I also fell hard for the Rag & Bone jumper. It has pockets and we all know how I love pockets. The only problem was I absolutely love-love-loved the ultra laid back violet dress from DKNY and the glammed up white and black strapless number by Ruffian. I honestly can't decide if I want something I could wear everyday or

Lurk,You'll Learn Something
1970-01-01 00:59:59
I don't usually do news here because in all honesty, I'm never the first to know things. I hate reading news papers, and I don't like the news. I do though read fashion magazines over and over and at least once a day check Perez Hilton and Pink is the New Blog. I'm the person you go to if you want to know all the celebrity dirt or what the new spring pallette is going to be. I'm also the person you go to if you want to hear the ins and outs of the members of most "emo" bands (those quotes are there for a reason). This leads me to the point of this post. I was reading the new Rolling Stone with Fall Out Boy on the cover and while skimming through the article for something I haven't already heard, I came across a little tidbit of information about Clandestine Industries. For those who could care less about Fall Out Boy or the whole emo sub-culture, Clandestine is Pete Wentz's clothing company that basically sells hoodies and tees with witty phrases like "love can't save you, onl

Not Quite Live from the Red Carpet
1970-01-01 00:59:59
I've always been a fan of awards season. When I was younger, I would only get to watch the red carpet arrivals and then I would have to go to bed. I would get so bummed out because I wanted to see if so-and-so won. Now, the only reason I actually remember about an award show is so I can watch the red carpet. I usually try to watch a bit of the warad show in between the show I actually wanted to watch. Yesterday, I can officially say I watched none of the actual Academy Awards, but I watched the entire E! Live from the Red Carpet not once but twice. I was really bummed out that Rome was a re-run so I turned off the TV and went to bed early. On to my favorites. It seems that if you wore a cream/white dress or a deep purple dress I liked it. At first I loved Cameron Diaz's dress by Valentino, but after further inspection I realized I only like the top half of her dress. I totally loved her hair and make-up. My favorite dress by far was the Nina Ricci dress Reese Witherspoons wore. Reese

I Wanna See My Name in Lights
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Maybe it's the extremely self absorbed part of me, but one of my favorite things is seeing something with my name on it. It doesn't have to be something for me, but I get all giddy when I see something with Chelsea on it. There's just a strange amusement I get out of it. You can pretend whatever that thing is that's sporting your name is actually yours, at least for a second. But this doesn't only apply to my name. Every time I see a Blythe doll tee I can't help but smile to myself. Today was the best surprise name sighting I've had in a long time. I was going through the Ron Herman online store and while scrolling through the list of designers, there it was: Rock Candy Accessories. A streak of elation swept through my body. I obviously new it had nothing to do with Pink Rock Candy, but I couldn't help but take a peep. There's only four items, all necklaces, but I really liked them. Two of them were fairly classic. The always present initial necklace that obviously has to cost

The Technical Term is a Thingamabob
1970-01-01 00:59:59
As I flipped through the pictures from the Viktor & Rolf show, I started to have flash backs of the America's Next Top Model episode where the girls had to walk on a runway of floating blocks. I'm pretty sure I screamed more than once just during that one scene, but the Viktor & Rolf show was real life, not reality TV. The models also weren't walking on floating blocks, but they did have to walk in wooden clogs, which is dangerous in it's own right. My first thought was why wooden clogs? I personally think they are odd looking, but when I was really little I wanted a pair. But, that was only because I thought I could clog dance. The clogs, though completely strange, weren't even the most dangerous part, as slippery as they may have been. Latched to the backs of each tiny model was a lighting contraption. Some were single poles with lights and speakers on the top and some were super crazy torture devices in the form of runway accoutrement. The models could barely move their arm

President of the Sperber Fan Club
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Lately, I have been on this crazy lucky streak *knock on wood*. And when I say lucky streak, I am totally discounting the über-harsh speeding ticket I just got. Though that wasn't very lucky, I was lucky enough to get a great internship with 31 Corn Lane. I have talked about Corn Lane before, but after meeting one of the sisters, Amy, and getting great sneak peeks on new products, I can honestly say I love them even more than I already did. I started the internship a while ago, and have totally become a Sperber groupie. I love everything that comes out of the genius heads of these girls, especially their new stuff.31 Corn Lane just released a new tote, wallet, and glasses case. As soon as I saw the new items I swooned like whoa. All the pieces are white and they have a green and a red stripe down the middle. They're lined with a super-cute tennis-themed fabric. By tennis-themed I mean red, green, and brown racquets with little yellow tennis balls on a white background. The tennis-t

It's Not Over 'Till It's Over
1970-01-01 00:59:59
The Oscar buzz won't quit. Everywhere I look there is another article talking about red carpet fashions. You never realize how much influence celebrity fashion has on the U.S. until award season rolls around. Life & Style Weekly just had an article about their faves from the Academy Awards. Some of their categories were "Most Glamorous" going to Penelope Cruz, "Slinkiest Fit" was awarded to Cate Blanchett, and "Sexiest Transformation" went to my favorite, Reese Witherspoon (Ryan Who?). Life & Style also had a spread about the after party styles because everyone knows you can't be seen in the same dress you wore down the red carpet at the after party. This definitely gave Jennifer Hudson a chance to redeem her self after the not so cute gold Oscar de la Renta bolero she wore on the red carpet. I won't hound her because I get it, it wasn't her choice and we all still love Oscar. She moved on to a gold Roberto Cavalli frock from the after party which earned her the title of "Kill

Lacroix, You've been on my Mind
2007-03-02 22:19:00
In light of recent events concerning Christian Lacroix, like the PETA streaker and Helen Mirren wearing a gorgeous Lacroix gown to the Oscars, I decided I just had to check out what he sent down the runway for Fall 2007. At first I was a little bored. I wasn't exactly bored with the clothes, but with the color scheme, if you can call all black a true color scheme. Then all of the sudden the ultra cute minis I was seeing before began to pop. The blacks and gun metals turned to electric blues and hot pinks. It was almost as if the skies were opening up after a gray snowy day. Even after the burst of bright, Lacroix continue the electric them with a bright yellow belt over a little black dress or a hot pink bow to make the cutest black shift dress pop.I absolutely adored the graphic prints on some of the more vibrant dresses. There is the cutest mini dress with a super deep v-neck and a drop waist. It reminded me of the female version of Peter Pan, and anyone who knows me knows I LOVE Pe

Straight from the Dahl-house
2007-03-01 18:49:00
Project Runway is one of my favorite shows, other than America's Next Top Model, which started again yesterday and was hysterical (check out an equally funny re-cap on BFF:Fred Flare). I've watched every season of Project Runway, and I'm actually really sad that I won't ever get to see Tim Gunn say "make it work" again, but that's beside the point. I always get excited when I get to see clothes from past contestants, and Shopbop.com has an exclusive spring collection from season 3 contestant Alison Kelly. You know the little blonde girl with the ultra cute style. Her clothing line is called Dahl and the spring line is inspired by "a Victorian dollhouse draped in tapestries and lace". You can totally see the inspiration popping through in the Alice Mini Dress. This mini comes in white and black and looks like something I dressed my dolls in when I was much younger. (This was before my Power Ranger action figures can kick Barbie's ass stage.) I absolutely love anything with a puff

My Eyes Aren't Lying Now
2007-03-03 19:09:00
Yesterday it rained-like-whoa all day, and by the time I got home to CT it was Spring. I love that feeling after it rains and most of the snow has melted, and you just know warmer weather is on it's way. So, today I'm dedicating everything to my favorite part of spring, TEES. Technically, I wear t-shirts all the time and just throw a hoodie or even just a winter coat over them, but it's nice to be able to wear a tee and not have my mom say, "you do know there's snow on the ground?"Anyway, on to the best part. I was doing lurking on MySpace or other blogs or God knows where, but I saw this T-shirt with Johnny Depp on the front. I flipped out majorly, except it was in my head because I was at school. I'm such a JD fan; I totally plan on putting my awesome french skills to good use and become his nanny or something. So, when I saw the shirt my little fingers went click, and I was transported to this great site for a clothing company called Your Eyes Lie. I got a good chuckle out of

Which Came First?
2007-03-04 22:13:00
I've loved Rachel McAdams since Mean Girls. Regina Wallace was me in high school except more exagerated. I think she is one of the prettiest actresses in hollywood and she's dating ultra-cutie Ryan Gosling (excpet maybe not anymore, I can't keep up). She's also on the cover of the April 2007 issue of ELLE in all her pink-haired glory. She looks so pretty and I found it absolutely hilarious that she was wearing Beyoncé's oscar dress on the cover. In all honesty from what I can see, I like it better on Rachel than on Beyoncé. I'm not quite sure wat it is, but the dress just works on her. Other than the sheer fact that this is one of the best celebrity spreads I've seen in ELLE in a long time, the spread got ten times better when I realized she was also sporting Kirsten Dunst's Oscar dress too (go peep the last page). Again, I have to say she rocked it 146.8 times better. The dress doesn't look as homely on Rachel as it did on Kirsten. Maybe it has something to do with the mat

Updates: More Odd Couplings

A week or so ago I wrote about Clandestine Industries signing a production and distribution deal with DKNY (here), but I really didn't have much info about it. I just read an article on this the deal and apparently it's not just mass produced Clandestine like I thought. It's going to be a juniors sportswear line called Clandestine Industries for DKNY Jeans and will be out just in time to make you too cool for school, or maybe not (you decide). The line is also a full fledged line with not only tees and sweats but jackets, jeans, skirts, and even dresses. One down side is almost everything is dark, think black tees and dark indigo jeans, which I assume are the killer ones in the picture and if they are, I really like them. Honestly, I'm not a fan of a totally dark outfit, one piece of dark mixed with something bright will keep things from looking to funeral-worthy.I kind of really hate this picture for a couple of reasons. One is the girl in the ugly terrible interesting shoes on t

Kylie + H&M + Charity = Empty Pockets
2007-03-05 21:05:00
Just to change things up, I think I'll just get to the point. Cheap-chic powerhouse H&M have made Australian beauty Kylie Minogue the muse and face of their new beachwear line called"H&M Love Kylie" (that sounds like the opening of a press release). The super cute line is going to be out mid-may and will contain 15 different bohemian but ultra beachy pieces. Now I have to say, I do truly love Kylie Minogue not only because she's really pretty but because she had to fight breast cancer in the public eye. She did it so gracefully and she looks just as amazing as she always has. In all honesty, I will pretty much do anything to support breast cancer because my aunt died of breast cancer when I was little. I'm the person that only buys the pink batteries because part of the profit goes to breast cancer and if there aren't any pink batteries available I will go without until there are. The thing is, none of the profit from the H&M line is going to any breast cancer charities, but th

Night-time is the Right Time
2007-03-06 18:11:00
Ask anyone when the first time they heard if designer Elie Saab was, and most will say the red carpet for some awards show. Though Saab has been a staple on the red carpet for quite a while, his Fall/Winter 2007-08 Collection was all about being a lady of the night. I don't mean lady of the night in a Roxanne way, but in a charity ball, My Super Sweet 16, heading out to the latest "it-club" Winston's kind of night-walker. Many of the clothes were decorated with light-catching sequins and the faux-leather had a shiny-wet look that is picture-perfect just in case you had a run-in with the paps.I've decided to get my gams in shape because I'm determined to rock the mini from the first warm day until they go out of style. Saab had tons of great minis for my inspirational purposes. There is a super pretty violet mini trimmed with black and shiny sequins. I'm also totally feeling an ultra sequiny black tiered mini that Saab sent down the runway. There were tons of extremely short shor

I just got really excited. The brilliant peeps at Fred Flare have decided to make all of their sunglasses $9. I KNOW... This is a big deal and needs to go on PRC, oh wait... I'm thinking they got my subliminal wishful thinking vibe, since it's kind of overcast in CT today and I'm pretty sure the weather isn't that diffeent in NY. The weather isn't going to hold me back though because but they've got really cutelicious sunglasses. They have losts of different types of sunglasses from whimsical heart shaped sunglasses to the classic but cool aviator. My faves are the Swan Lake sunglasses, I think I might just buy them.

My Floral Fixation
2007-03-07 16:09:00
I was never the girl who would willingly pick out anything with a floral print much less put the flowery garb on without a fight, but things have definitely changed. When I'm not gravitating toward the swashbuckling (but not really) sailor look, I've found myself ogling items with pretty floral prints. When the weather goes crazy and can't make up it's mind like it's been doing lately, I start to think if I dress for the weather I want it'll come faster. That's a little thing I call wishful thinking. So, I just wanted to share some of my fave finds.I found a couple of great flowery tops at Forever 21. I love that the shirts are dark because it proves floral doesn't always have to be light and pastels. On the flip side of the almost anti-floral is the extremely girlie and Springy Puella dress at the top. I've talked about Puella before and all her stuff is amazingly cute and casual. My other floral needs were met by some super delectable heels. I honestly haven't gotten a new

Calvin Klein is a perfectly respectable company who has just lost their way. I'm sure your intentions were good when creating CKin2U, but you made a few mistakes. Don't worry, I'm here to help you and maybe next time you try to target my generation, we won't eat you alive.Mistake 1: You can't always recreate a great.CK1 was the scent for the 90's. Why try to make another? It's like Einstein was cool and all, but here's Einstein 2.0 he'll IM you his essay on the photo-electric effect. That is obviously not going to happen; nothing can replace a great.Mistake 2: Whatareyouin2.comWe've got enough social networking sites. I probably have at least ten of which I only use about half. Unless this one offers thousands of dollars to everyone who signs-up, it's going to tank like so many others.Mistake 3: Don't EVER point out our obvious flaws. You are correct in the assumption that we spend exuberant amount of time on the internet and use our own "internet lingo", which even I need

When Science and Fashion Mixes
2007-03-09 23:38:00
If you haven't realized from the 165.3 other times I've said it, I absolutely love new things. It could be a new TV show, movie, band, clothing designer, food, or even the cute new guy that works and the drugstore down the street. Fresh things just excite me, and MySpace is a great way to find things I would never have known about in regular situations. Yes, these novel finds do come from lots of time spent lurking on the interweb, but that's just a hazard of the job. On one of my lurking excursions, I found this great clothing brand called pH by Phillia. The clothes are a great mix between mod, space, and traditional asian dress.pH by Phillia was started by Phillia Downs and bestie for life Nanako Mori. Phillia was originally an ultra smart science geek, like yours truly (she got her B.S in Biology and Genetics), and also like me, she found that her true calling was a more artistic one. With a little prodding from her friends and family, she started pH by Phillia and eventually go

If I Only Lived in London
2007-03-12 17:59:00
Newsletters are awesome, especially if you have a desperate need to know everything about everything. I get a well rounded dose of fashion daily and all I have to do is go to my inbox. Today I received a newsletter from Fashion Trendsetter, and there was a link to an extremely interesting article about the new Fashion Retail Academy in London. Honestly, I'm the first person to rant about how the only true reason to attend school after a certain grade is to get a good job and make money, but I think it's a good idea to have the Fashion Retail Academy. My major problem with college is having to take all the fluff classes that have nothing to do with what I actually want to do, but at Fashion Retail Academy their is a very focused curriculum in whichever career path you wish to pursue. The school concentrates on such careers as: branding, buying, consumer services, marketing, merchandising, public relations, and visual merchandising. They also provide tons of great work placement or co

I found this amazing online store called The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. One reason I love the store is because all the colors are super bright and are great for spring; another reason is they make clothes to accentuate all your great curves or make it look like you've got tons of great curves. It doesn't matter if you're super skinny or awesomely curvy all the clothes from The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly will make you look fantabulous!Judi Rosen is the super cute clothing designer and founder of The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. She started making clothes in 1997 and opened her first boutique called The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly in 2001. You may have seen Judi's lace driving gloves in DKNY's Spring 2005 runway show. She has also dressed tons of celebrities like: Chloe Sevigny, Christina Milian, Courtney Love, Eve, Fergie, Gwen Stefani, Kelly Osborne, and Maggie Gyllenhaal. In 2003, she also received the exclusive rights to start creating her own version of the iconic "Polly" mu
