Orchid Rise makeover (part 1)
1970-01-01 00:59:59
When we decided to carry out our makeover for the spare room, we didn't have anything specific in mind. However the rooms in our apartment are relatively small so we know for sure that the colours needs to be light and creates spaciousness. Thus white was the choice for the background colour and we have decided to use a lilac purple accent colour for highlight. The inspiration of this colour choice was from the orchid flower we had in the living room which we think would be a nice nuetral break from the Asian contemporary design we had for the Living/Dining. When doing space planning of the room, I scrap the idea of having a large doublebed since we would rarely have visitors and the function of the room will be limited having large furniture. Thus, we decide to move a day bed which we bought sometime back into this room. Cleaning up and packing up the room was a tiring process. Since we need to discard the old wardrobe and other old furniture which were falling to peices, all th

"the travelling ducks" Lyricbox - Iris
1970-01-01 00:59:59
When times like this, when the MentalBlog Monster hits our screen, its best to just sit back, enjoy the music and feel the lyrics. "the travelling ducks" Lyricbox is a posting on Pato & Pearl's favourite together songs that is close to our hearts that is significant to an event, places, moments, reflections or simply songs that both of us love listening to.......... Iris Goo Goo Dolls Verse 1 And I'd give up forever to touch you Cause I know that you feel me somehow You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be And I don't want to go home right now Verse 2 And all I can taste is this moment And all I can breathe is your life When sooner or later it's over I just don't want to miss you tonight Chorus And I don't want the world to see me Cause I don't think that they'd understand When everything's made to be broken I just want you to know who I am Verse 3 And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming Or the moment of truth in your lies

the hunt for "anneke gronloh"
1970-01-01 00:59:59
We're back tackling our Makeover Exercise. Since the toilets will require major long process, we have decided to proceed with doing the Guest Bedroom. And I've decided to do an All White Room since the space is quite small. I'm still considering a feature one wall colour which have yet to be decided. Meanwhile "the travelling ducks" are on a mission which is called - the hunt for "anneke gronloh". Looking for this nostalgic era dutch singer music CD, it's like finding a needle in a haystack... That CD Shop - Zilch Muzika Records - Null HMV - no stock (although I'm not convince yet since I just made a call and not physically go down and "harrass" the staff..) The search continues.......... }Pato & Pearl{

"the travelling ducks" rejuvenated
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Manic week it has been. From our home laptop crash, to Pearl's office moving, Pato's Plant start-up and Pearl's repeat telecast of hay fever - its a rollercoster. Pearl was down with fever again last weekend and was put on sick leave on Monday & Tuesday but she sneaked to the office Tuesday morning after I left her at the "nest" and gone for work. But she's all well now apart from blottiness from time to time. Our laptop crashed sometime on Wednesday whilst Pearl was doing her homework - which also a blessing in disguise so I can have get her rest properly. Meanwhile trying to reboot and recovery our laptop was in vain. The "sounds" coming out from our A50 Toshiba Sattelite was not comforting at all and I suspect it may be a hardrive problem. My hunch was right when I brought the lappy to Toshiba Customer Center on Thursday - it was a hardrive problem. Costing me S$100 just for a diagnostic report, I was even more appalled when they advised to me that I need to wait for 6 t

A Capricorn is born - 88 years ago
1970-01-01 00:59:59
My grandad turns 88 last Saturday. He was my Mama's dad. At 88, he is capable of tending himself and is still healthy. I know he kept himself fit with his daily exercise and eating right. This year he had decided to gather all the children, grandchildren and great grandchildren together at his house to celebrate his 88th birthday. My parents unfortunately could not attend, Pato was working on morning shift and I was also occupied with my packing for the office move so I thought I might have to give it a miss. However, obligations begin to fill my heart and by lunch time I was back at home. Yadi was kind enough to pick me up after he collected the cake and we arrived at Atuk's around 3pm. It was just a small family affair with immediate families and some relatives from further afield. Most of my aunties and uncles plus majority of my cousins were there and we got together for the preparations. Yadi made the poster, the girls - Ayu, Tiara and Habibah were doing decorations and the

I surrender..........Trying to stay afloat with battling the flu, migrane and carry on with my daily routine - its too overwhelming. Thus after seeing the doctor for the 2nd time, I decide to follow doctor's rules and decide to take my sick leave. Called back the office to reschedule my meetings followed by calling my clients to apologise on the changes and later called Pato that I decide to stay home. I guess God must have taken extra measures to ensure I will not even work from home, I found that I could not even access my mails from home!!!!!!!... My admin confirmed that web server is down so feeling handicapp without able to even check my emails, I went on blog hopping for a while and later decided to catch up with my "chick flicks" dvds whilst waiting for the medication to settle me into the LALA-land.Started with "Raising Helen" and followed by "In Her Shoes"....midway, started to feel drowsy so I dragged myself to bed and zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. sniff sniff week for Pato & Pearl
1970-01-01 00:59:59
With the flu bug hovering at the atmosphere, "the travelling ducks" were not spared even with our regimented popping of Centrum Multi Vitamins. Pato was down with fever and flu early last week, followed by Pearl . Our work committment didn't allow us to rest properly thus coming to work with pocket tissues, prescribed 'chlorpheniramine' tablets and the infamous red cough drop mixture had made itself home in our bags this past week. It was a packed week for the ducks - Pato had to come back to the plant during off days and I had to take over "unfinish business". With only Saturday being the only day we had our quality time, no way we're going to be tucked in bed whole day. So by noon we're out of the house to catch a movie...sniff sniff... It was Pato's turn for our movie choice so he got his pick - "TENACIOUS D in the pick of Destiny". I've listen to Tenacious D before and though it falls under Parental Advisory needed due to its content, I would thought it would be crudely f

Pearl's barter trade
1970-01-01 00:59:59
I was anticipating a package to arrive on my desk today. Although I usually receive packages and delivery boxes often, they are normally samples or mock-ups for my projects and approval. This particular FedEx package is different. This package came from a fellow blogger. It actually came from Wan. A fellow blogger that I've befriended through Red Mummy. This was during our post sharing about our house makeover through which we have shared our thoughts about design styles and she had shared her plans and progress of her makeover. As I see that she had great enthusiasm in collecting asian artifacts, I think she has great values appreciating these art ornamental objects. Thus I decided to gave her couple of my collection from the Middle East which I happen to have spare. And I know it will receive great care and will definitely become one of her many display in her home. What I didn't expect from her was that she also had decided to send me couple for her collection to

flea market spree - quickie news
1970-01-01 00:59:59
The flea market along Tanglin Mall of Orchard Road was nothing to shout about. But to support this friend of mine (who recently got engaged with a nice blondie boy from California) and decide to join the realm of "tai-tai"ness has decided to clear her wardrobe and letting go some of her "branded" collections - some of which had not been used....in order to make way for the new. Prada, Fendi, Gucci - you name it, she has it..and she's letting 'em go at nearly steal prices (as low as $5 bucks to some of the stuff) Tina who also designs and sells her own range of watches will also be letting them go at the flea market. For only one day, Tina and her neice will be at Tanglin Flea Market (in front of Tanglin Shopping Centre), Saturday 2nd Dec from 3pm to 11pm @ Lot Number 14... }Pearl{

Calling of the Holy Kaábah
1970-01-01 00:59:59
This year Pato's 2 nephews came to the calling of Baitullah in Mecca to perform Haj - the fifth fundamental of Pillars of Islam. Pato send them off last week to the Airport with the rest of his family but unfortunately I already had prior engagement and only manage to catch up with them few days before at their home with the rest of my in-laws. Zul and Nuriman are the sons of Pato's eldest brother Abang Mahfudz and Kak Marni whom both had perform their Haj in Year 2004. Both of them are going with Shahidah Travels which is the same agent that their parents had taken before and that we have also heard good remarks about this agent. Seeing both of our nephews in their early twenties preparing and sought to the calling of the Holy Kaábah, both Pato and myself could still vividly remember our first time setting foot at the Baitullah - separately. In 1999 I did my Haj with my parents, aunt and Atuk (my grandad that recently turn 88..) and the year before Pato did his Umrah with

Christmas 2006 @ dwp
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Last Friday my workplace had its Christmas Lunch at the new office. Whilst all the renovation works and packing are still underway, the spirit of celebrating the coming holiday was not dampen. The christmas tree was transfered from the old office to the new office and by lunch time it was already up again with the decorations. After our client's meeting, myself and Catherine make our way to the new office. Although Christmas was not celebrated by all, it was a time that we get together and taking the concept of sharing and giving we too had our gift exchange within the office. Each of us had pick out a name anonymously and will need to get a gift for that person in later he or she will need to guess who is it from. The seniors and the directors meanwhile, had gotten all staff presents. I got for the girls each a necklace with a letter pendant - the first alphabet of their name from swarovski crystal and a Barbie doll!..Yes that doll which dated Ken!...the Fashion Fever vers

the lion, the tiger and the ducks
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Last Saturday, the Lions were at Singapore Kallang Stadium at the soccer battlefield against the the Tigers from the neighbouring country. Forget about getting tickets as it was sold out like hotcakes.......so instead, the Ducks had their own agenda. We drove to my parents' place and just over two weeks Dad's little kitty, Sky has grown. And she has a new friend - Rain...... To be honest, I'm not really a cat fan and to hold one would just freaks me out. But a dare from Pato who's the super duper cat lover makes me overcome my fears and those cuties are just so adorable. Rain is more mild than Sky who likes to jump around and would paw at you for attention. I'm not kidding....! I was just standing next to their cage and Sky set her paw out at your leg which of course sets me jump out in shock.. Abah was saying these kitties knows who they can seek attention to play. When they see Abah or my brother, they mew non stop but will keep mum

Photo Hunters - Subject : WILD
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Living in an apartment with the 'concrete jungle' setting omits us from experiencing any backyard moments or having that stroll in the natural forrest setting. A garden city this red dot is, its far cry to seeing a nature reserved which is left in the wilderness. So where we try to find 'wild' - in my parents mini "zoo" across the causeway (in their backyard or rather sideyard, looking at the orientation of the house........) So I decided to post this picture for this Photo HuntMy dad's little ducklings Pearl & Little Duckling This is the new addition át my parent's place. A stray kitten that we named Sky. There she goes......
1970-01-01 00:59:59
She's starting her busy schedule again and she's off to Phnom Penh to tend to her project. So I teased her.."I guess now "the travelling ducks" will be sleeping for a while...With a laugh she responded ..- "there's a will there's a way...".... Sending her to the airport Monday morning was a drag...I really dreaded the days she needs to be away. Its not that I'm not used to it but when someone becomes your next half the feeling is different. So my dear Pearl......next time " Can you please tell me early early your schedule so I can apply leave and piggy back with you..." She's touching down tonight at 9.10pm..tick tock tick tock...... }Pato{ - forget about posting any pictures, I have no idea how to do that..that's Pearl category......

Phnom Penh @ Work (solo pilot)
1970-01-01 00:59:59
After nearly 4 months of mending projects in Singapore, 2007 kicks off with my involvement with Maersk Sealand project in Phnom Penh. I think Pato is getting used to having me around the nest and going back to frequently sending me to the airport is not a fun activity for him. Anyways, the 3 days trip to Phnom Penh was jam packed for work. As I'm still involved in several projects in Singapore, the schedule was a bit last minute since I have postphone the trip for 2 weeks due to my commitment in the office. Eversince Pato has been sharing my nest, I have been very complacent when I need to fly solo, even to new places. I would only check the temperature to ensure the type of attire I would require....Vanity is priority..... But it will be Pato that would fuss from A to Z in every single detail...(I think him being in Guards previously servicing National Service did some justice). And typically I would pack my luggage last minute (this is a habit that I just cannot kic

A dedication to Lala - from Pearl with LOVE
1970-01-01 00:59:59
There is another special woman in my life apart from my Mama. Who is she ??...Known as Ramlah, Ram or Lala, she's my Mama's younger sister - the number 7 of 9 siblings. Somehow she took the role by default as a "mother" to me here whilst my birthmom is across the causeway and typically as most mothers does, she would fuss over me now and then. And fuss with a capital F, that she would buzz me constantly to chase me out of the office when I stay overly late or nag infinitively if she found out that I skip my meals and fall sick. Basically she's the 'matron' when Pato is away. But she is full of love to those she cares dearly. Thus, this post is dedicated to her as she is my faithful reader since the birth of "the travelling ducks". Coincidentally, "the travelling ducks" was born on the same birthdate as hers - 29 September. from left : Opah, Aunt Rohaini, Aunt Sabariah, Mama, Auntie Lala on bike, Aunt Zaleha Her nieces and nephews called her Auntie Lala but don't eve

Orchid Rise makeover (Part 2)
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Trying to hit the deadline to get Orchid Rise ready by 31st December 2006 but it was simply wishful thinking. Although it's lesser works but its taken a wee bit longer compared to our Ramadhan's makeover. Nevertheless, the show must go on. I finished all painting works on Wednesday night. The feature colour of the lilac purple had also been accomplished. I ended up painting all the walls since Pato will be taking all the "intensive labour" jobs - fixing the furniture, window furnishing installation and hanging picture frames. for 3 nos. furniture it took 2 IKEA lorries?? This morning, IKEA dropped by our place in the morning of Eid to deliver the furniture. Yeah!..I know some may label me as a cheapo designer but I can tell you 10 rational reason behind getting IKEA furniture. 1. it's affordable..i won't say cheap because you can get cheaper ones at the heartlanders 2. it's white (which we wanted for the furniture) and at least has a decent design compared to the other les

Welcoming 2007 - A PSP, A DVD & an MC
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Abbreviations - that's how we can relate to our welcoming 2007. 1st January 2007 Pato got himself a new toy for the New Year. Another boy's toys............ A PSP = Pearl Sayang Pato aka Play Station Portable......duh!!!! Since he's been eyeing it for quite a while we came to a mutual agreement that this will be Pato's advance Wedding Anniversary gift. But it has to be yours truly choice of colour - white, which I think looks more classy. 2nd January 2007 I had to step into the office today. Auspicious day/date for opening of business. So at precisely 9.38am with Mark, Mona, Peter and Nas, we entered the office lead by Mark the MD, ushering the new vibe into the office. I didn't stay long since the network was still down so it's pointless to get any work done although it was not my intention to do so. Pato was on MC = Medical Certification, a term commonly used when you're on sick leave. He was a little under the weather with the extra days he had to come back to

The magic marker
1970-01-01 00:59:59
At work last Wednesday - 3.30am in the morning....Dang!!..i'm getting bald.. The plant is soooo smooth.....cos NOTHING IS RUNNING at the moment..wakakakkaaka.. So I took a marker and let my creative juices flow to the tip and onto my torchlight. I drew this OCTOPUS with this Pilot marker. My colleague was asking what the hell are you doing....I said if this company ever fold, I can open up a Tatooing shop using henna - Halal certified. There's a super short story to it : This picture shows a monster dog chasing a baby elephant........THE END (ran out of space) Although I can't remember how the "sotong" came into the story. Maybe if I can find a larger torchlight I can make a picture novel. }Pato @ Work{background music used : paint it black by rolling stones PP Dictionary : sotong : squid in Malay but this is a sotong kereta meaning OCTOPUS

Secrets in Small Places
1970-01-01 00:59:59
While Orchid Rise is receiving its final touches, I decided to do this post instead. There are many "secrets" in our apartment. Like I mentioned before, living in a small apartment, every inch of space became very sacred. So its no drama that we create these 'Secrets in Small Places '. We bought this clay pot with a lid in Barang Barang store at their warehouse sale. It was advised for gardening accessories but I think it'll look just as fine indoors. I thought this could be a good space for all those adapters for digicams, USB cables, i-POD cables, phone and battery chargers which easily gets misplaced. Also this force you to neatly tie the cables as the pot as limited space so to avoid getting tangled. Keeping the dresser neat and tidy has always been tricky. I found this lacqured tiered chinese basket, normally used in Chinese wedding which you can find quite easily in Chinatown area. A unique piece itself, we turn it into a home for the clutter on the dresser. I keep

a diamond wedding is created
1970-01-01 00:59:59
On 5th February, 60 years ago, two lovebirds from Ipoh, Perak had solemnized their vows as husband and wife. 60 years later, they are still together with 7 loving living children, 18 wonderful grandchildren and 3 great grandsons. From Perak, they've migrated to Singapore and this little red dot has been home ever since. This couple is my grandparents - parents to my dear Mama. I call them Opah and Atuk as Grandma and Grandpa respectively. Opah has always been a homemaker whilst Atuk retired from Kodak after 25 years serving as the Customer Service Manager. During his Kodak days, he travelled quite a bit - to Europe, Russia, Australia and the Asian region as well. He was also a stenographer before that. Atuk retired in year 1974, (the year Pearl decided to be their first grandchild) when Atuk is at 58 of age. After retiring, he had been active in the community scene both in building the society and in the Malay muslim community. He was a volunteer counsellor for drug addicts and

a busy week ....ending with a farm retreat
1970-01-01 00:59:59
A manic week it has been. Several win of projects and overtime at work, the last thing we wanted when we reached home, was to have a cold shower and dragged our feet to bed. We were looking for a long haul weekend of sleep when Kak Nong smséd on Saturday - Want to visit the farm? We look at each other and said oh well, what the heck....lets not waste a good Saturday. So by late morning, we drove to Lim Chu Kang, to the many farms out there. Sunny morning which was getting hotter by the days, we met Kak Nong and Pato's nieces Nur and Aminah + their mother, Kak Nisa who is Pato's sister-in law. So after scaring Kak Nong at the side road whilst she was driving her Forrester, we made our stop at Hay Dairies. Hay Dairies is a small goat farm with about 1000 goats of mixed breed producing milk for sale. Welcome to Hay Dairies Kak Nisa and Nur - she looked like a Japanese tourist lost in Lim Chu Kang Nice goat....Nur, come touch its head....eerrrr NO THANK YOU

So let's try this out, painlessly: - 1. Pearl hates roses. Yes, any flower except roses. Yes, even Venus Flytrap or the 'Corpse Flower' (well not that she ever would like to receive those but you get the picture - NO ROSES!!) 2. Pearl is faithful to her stationaries. She will use them to the last drop, especially pens. She mutinized them so no one will ever want to take it - even by accident. Jus
