My article in Media: on Christiaan Barnard 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Above is my article on Dr. Christiaan Barnard published in Vijaya Karnataka Kannada newspaper on 14th September 2001.
Orkut as a marketing tool 1970-01-01 00:59:59 The Google promoted community portal orkut.com is being used intensively for marketing by many individuals and small companies alike. The modus operandi is very simple: Create a profile in orkut with a female name, join as many communities as possible and then start sending messages to the community members about your product or services. This is virtually cost free advertising and you get to reach hundreds of target customers without any effort. (And success rate is verymuch high)The fact that there's no validation mechanism for orkut profile creation is being misused by most of the people. Many people create fake profiles to gain specific advantages. Creating a fake female profile will help grab attention as most of the male users usually don't ignore the communications sent by lady members. Conventional advertising (say in TV, Print, online etc) being expensive, many promoters have chosen to use orkut to get publicity for their website/product. You can find many fake female profi Read more:Orkut

link search:Google Vs Yahoo 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Sharing a small observation with you:While searching you can use prefix "link:" to find out what websites are linking to the URL you gave. For example a search string link:xyz.com will return sites that link to xyz.com.Out of curiosity I tried "link:http://enidhispeaks.blogspot.com" on Google
and to my horror found that Google is not listing a single website which links to my blog. (Trust me, there're websites that link to my blog). Check the image below or check this URLFor the same search string, Yahoo
is listing 9 results (9 websites that are linking to my blog)(Check here)Why is this? Does this indicate Yahoo is more reliable than Google?

How to select good tender coconut 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Do you drink tender coconut
water? I do. Those used to Pepsi and Coke may ignore this post.If you're buying tender coconut from a road side vendor (its predominantly available at roadside only), how do you select a tender coconut? Why I asked above question is because of following reasons:Tender coconut doesn't come with a manufacturing date, expiry date, batch number, MRP and other such parameters. They're not uniform in their size, content volume, taste and other details. Because it is straight from the tree, each one is different. So when buying one you have to select one. This post attempts to give you some advice on how to select best tender coconut for drinking, while buying the same from a vendor. This helps you get best out of your money.Tender coconut has two parts: Water, and Coconut gravy (I'm not sure of the English name for this creamy eatable substance found on the inner surface of a tender coconut, if you know, please let me know). Many people only drink the water
Security Loophole-Part 2 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Will terrorists always enter through main gate? Most of our buildings are guarded heavily at the main entrance, but are scarcely manned at rest of the places. If someone is determined to trespass and create trouble he can enter the premises from many places other than the main entrance and our security should be tightened to handle this. For example, Bangalore airport is partially surrounded with Wind Tunnel Road, a publicly accessible road which is separated from the runway by a thin wall. Any semi skilled person who can jump the wall or break it can hit the runway directly. Similarly, Hyderabad Airport is also surrounded by slums and public road, again making it vulnerable. What is the response time needed by our security forces to respond from the moment they spot an intruder on the runway? I'm not sure, but if it is more than a minute, that's too much of time for someone to create trouble. If it can go wrong, it will go wrong. We need to be prepared to handle this.Previous Post: Se
Choosing your financial advisor 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Keywords: Financial Planning advice, Insurance agents, wealth management tipsCome March and lots of salaried people and financial advisors or tax planners will be hunting for each other. Many people invest in insurance primarily for tax benefit. How do you select your insurance agent? On what basis do you take a decision of buying an insurance policy of a specific company and from a specific agent?Traditionally, we buy policies from the agent who were referred to you by your friends/relatives, or from agents who are distant family members/friends/relations or from agents who kept bugging you till you bought a policy from him.A bad investment equivalent to financial loss. Because it is your money it is your responsibility to ensure that you're taking advice from right people when investing it. Don't do investments just to gain tax exemptions or to please the agent (or say to get rid of him)This post gives you some tips for selecting your financial advisor and tells you some key points

Freeing Gmail Space 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Google's Gmail
offers 3GB free space but you might run out of this space soon if you're an extensive user. My gmail account exceeded 99% recently and I had to free some space. The main reason for running short of disk space was that gmail saves every forward as a conversation and if you forward an attachment, the attachment is saved twice in each conversation and hence occupies double space. In other email utilities, forwarded mails are stored in sent folder and hence can be easily deleted. In gmail, since the forwarded mail is saved along with the original message, deleting the conversation means you'll loose the original mail also. So if you wish to keep the original mail but delete forwarded one, this post gives some visual tips to do that.Gmail offers several sorting criterion using which you can list mails which meet a specific criterion. I used "has:attachment; label:sent" which listed all the forwards having attachments.Next task is to delete off individual messages in a Read more:Space
Hampi India: Video, Photo and tourist Information 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Along with my colleagues, I did visit Hampi last weekend. It was rather an un scheduled trip, planned in less than 48 hours. We wanted to attend a colleague's engagement ceremony in Bellary, Karnataka and we were not willing to travel all the way to Bellary from Hyderabad (350+kms) just to attend one function. So the nearest tourist

kerosene Volvo ???!!! 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Is Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) running Volvo buses (Garuda branded luxury coaches) on kerosene?Bangalore auto drivers (Indian auto drivers in general) were famous for running their autos on kerosene (ಸೀಮೆ à²à²£à³à²£à³†, मिटà¥à¤Ÿà¥€ का तेलà¥), due to cost advantage of the subsidized fuel. But internal combustion engines were not designed to run on kerosene and these autos were leaving behind a thick black exhaust, polluting the environment and spoiling health of people around.Last Saturday, on 27th Jan 2007, eNidhi India CBO (Chief Blogging Officer) Shrinidhi Hande spotted a Volvo B7R, owned by APSRTC, running on NH 9 (Hyderabad-Vijayawada route) which was releasing an unusually thick exhaust. I was rather shocked to see that. See the video below, focusing on exhaust pipe. (The bright sun light has reduced the darkness of exhaust gas, tilted video is retained as it is for a change)Technically, Volvo B7R buses incorporate some of t
Redundant Questions and obvious answers 1970-01-01 00:59:59 In life there're some questions, answers
for which are fully predictable and asking these questions never serve any purpose. Still we keep asking such questions. This post list certain scenarios where asking a particular question is meaningless as the answer you get for these questions are obvious.1. To a film star after the release of his/her latest movieQ: How is your new movie?A: "It is an excellent movie, I'm sure it'll be a super hit, you should go and watch it, don't miss" (No film star ever says "This movie hasn't come that well, don't waste your time and money watching it" still news paper and television journalists keeping asking this question and get the obvious answer, mainly because they want content for their media but they'll never follow up with these stars if the movie turns out to be a flop)2. To a fruit seller in a market:Q: Babu are these mangos good?A: Yes madam they're very good. (No seller will ever say "my products are not good, go and b

ICICI Cashback offer-Your Chance of winning 1970-01-01 00:59:59 A mathematical challenges for those who love maths.Few months back, I came across ICICI
Bank's "upto 100%" cash back offer. When you use their credit card for shopping, you get a six digit number and depending on the sum of these six digits, you'll get certain percentage of money back. This post is an attempt to interpret the mathematical probability of winning 100% cashback as well as other combinations. (I do not have a solution for this yet, expecting some help from my readers)The offer works like this: You use your ICICI Credit card and spend more than Rs 2000, your transaction slip will contain a 6 digit authorization code and you've to add the digits in the number to get the total. Depending on the total you get you'll get certain amount of cashback on your purchase. For example, if your 6 digits sum up to say 51, you'll get 100% refund while if its say 29 (i.e., for any sum between 15 and 30), you'll get 1% refund.Refer image for exact range and cash back offered. Soft Drinks vs Natural Drinks 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Heard of the recent news on pesticides in Cola and Pepsi right? This post is about my opinion on these products and the alternative we have. All my life, I've consumed these products minimum number of times. If I remember correctly, I've consumed both Coca Cola and Pepsi just once or twice, and their other products, fanta, sprite etc few more times. (Have consumed Maaza, Slice, AquaFina and Kinley a number of times). Because I'm not a regular user of these products I may not have enough authority to comment on them, but still, I'm proceeding.I understand and agree that these soft drinks are sweet, served chilled, hence quench your thirst. Pesticides or not I'm still unable to understand what value addition these drinks have to our health. Technically speaking, these are just water with sweeteners and preservatives. They contain phosphoric acid and other chemicals. In no way these drinks contribute to health factor. Then why people drink them? The sole reason they're popular is beca Read more:Drinks

To advice or to advise? 1970-01-01 00:59:59 All my life, I have been very careless about the usage of two English words: Advice and advise
. (Not that I was extremely careful with rest of my English vocabulary)These two words are often used improperly. Most of us do not differentiate the meaning they carry, while others ignore the difference thinking one might be UK English while other is US English.Very recently I realized the difference they carry and the context in which we should use each of these words. This post attempts to share the same."Advice" is a noun that means "a recommendation." "Advise" is a verb that means "to recommend." (Examples: Your advice saved me time and energy. I advise you to go to bed early tonight.)Courtesy:www.lausd.k12.ca.us/Van_Nuys_MS/glossary%20index.htmlOne more example:You advise someone or you give them adviceThere're many such words which we often use at wrong places and in wrong context. While such errors might be easily ignored in personal communication, it's very essential that we avoi

At most of the places one has to struggle for signal even within the city.Worried about your mobile not catching signal at certain places? Here's an approach adopted by villagers of Andhra Pradesh. Try this if you dare.In yet another observation which proves Indian brain is the best when it comes to innovative solutions, villagers at a remote village in Andhra Pradesh, some 100 kms off Hyderabad, were found hanging their mobile phones to a pole outside their homes so that the device could receive incoming radio communication which was impossible had the phone be indoors.Picture 1: Villagers hanging their mobiles to a pole outside their home so as to receive signalLast week I was in Parigi, a village some 45 kms off Sadanagar on NH 7 where Read more:Mobile
