How should I alert the winner of my giveaway--via e-mail or just an announcement on my blog?
2008-04-24 12:00:07
For my own giveaways, I prefer to send out an e-mail to the winner . That way I know I have tried to contact the winner. I can put a time-limit on how long I'll wait for a response and mailing address from the winner. The next step is to either...

What is 'hotlinking' and what's the big deal?
2008-04-28 00:00:08
Hotlinking is when you are directly linking to another site's graphics, files, video, etc. instead of linking to those items from your own server. For instance, when I share a graphic like this one I encourage you to right-click it and save it to your computer and either insert it...

I accidently published a post in Blogger, but I don't want it to go up yet! What can I do?
2008-04-30 00:00:08
Yep. That happens to everyone sooner or later. We hit "Publish Now" instead of "Save for Later" or "Draft" or whatever. To fix this issue: Go to your Posting tab. Click Edit Posts. Click Edit next to the post you want to change to unpublish. Click Save as Draft.

When entering an online giveaway, is giving an e-mail necessary when you've left your blog link?
2008-05-01 00:00:08
Many online giveaways require that you provide a valid e-mail address so they can easily contact you if you win. I would say you need to leave your e-mail address even if you also leave a link to your blog. My reasoning is that if the host has to track...

I have started a website about "Work from Home" and have been advised to contact webmasters and request to exchange reciprocal links but have not done so because I don't feel comfortable asking. What are your thoughts?
2008-05-07 00:00:07
This is the second part of the question I was asked yesterday. Reciprocal links are a gray area. I don't care for reciprocal links. I don't like to be asked and I don't like to do it. I feel like anything I link to (that's not a paid advertisement) should...

I have started a website about "Work from Home" and have been advised to post comments on blogs. Am I on the right track by posting on any blog or should I just be posting comments specifically on "Work from Home" blog sites?
2008-05-06 10:23:23
This is part one of a two-part question I received this week. Part two will be answered tomorrow. Leaving comments on WFH blogs (or any blogs for that matter) consistently will allow other readers to start to get to know you. They'll recognize you from the comments section on blogs...

Should I ask permission to link to a blog I find interesting, or should I just link to it without bothering the blogowner?
2008-05-08 00:00:08
I don't think you need to ask people if you want to link to them. For the most part, when you link to another blog or web site, you are helping generate traffic for that blog or site. In most cases, you are sharing the link because you think it's...

When commenting, why do some people use a profile name and others use their real name? Does it matter which one I choose to use?
2008-05-12 00:00:07
As you visit blogs and read comments, you will notice that some people appear to have an alias (e.g., chilihead) and some people appear to be using their real names (e.g., Melanie). Whichever route you choose (alias or real name or blog name), that is the name that will become...

How can I make a comment on a blog into traffic for my site?
2008-05-15 14:38:47
You can't make a comment on one blog into traffic for your site. However, you can become an interested part of a community and contribute to conversations in the comments sections of several blogs (also part of that community--whether it's political, parenting, gardening, etc.). The more you comment, the more...

I put a Creative Commons license on my blog, but is my material truly protected?
2008-05-19 00:00:07
Creative Commons allows you to choose conditions you want applied to your copyright. The following is from Creative Commons: Attribution: This license lets others distribute, remix, tweak, and build upon your work, even commercially, as long as they credit you for the original creation. This is the most accommodating of...

How is it possible to make a layout that has movement? I know you need to make your background a gif file, but what else do I do?
2008-06-03 05:01:06
I would advise against making anything (especially the background ) on your blog or web page move. When we read online, it's a bit harder on our eyes than we read paper. Anything that distracts the eye distracts from your main message (i.e., your blog post). Most readers will click away...
