GM's Exec Announces "Global Warming is a Crock of S*&%" 2008-03-06 22:57:00 Last month, General Motors announced their worst quarter in the companies entire history. By a thread, they cling to the #1 spot as top automaker. Am I smoking crack, or why haven't they produced a fleet of hybrids or some smaller, more fuel efficient vehicles so they can turn a profit? Is it because the Vice Chairman Bob Lutz was heard saying that global warming is "a total crock of s---?" Now there's an intelligent leader! This type of stupidity is reminiscent of the leaders of the sub prime mortgage industry, who continuously insisted on making unsound, ridiculous loans even when there was clear and present danger in the marketplace. Clearly, manufacturing more efficient vehicles has been working fantastically for Toyota, the#2 automaker, in terms of increased sales revenues AND benefit Read more:Global

Pump Some Green Iron! 2008-03-03 19:33:00 Yes, it's shockingly true! Even while working out, you could be over consuming and contributing to global warming. Below are the keys to greening your workout.1. Wear organic breathable cotton. During workouts, your pores are opening up and coming as close to your skin as they ever could. Cotton contains high levels of pesticides, more so than some fruits and veggies. Nike makes plenty of soy and organic cotton workout clothes. Give Yoga a try. Finding the right balance in life can sometimes be challenging. Yoga helps you to find inner peace and tranquility in your life. Plus it will kick your ass into shape fast.3. Consider riding your bike or walking to the gym. If time allows. You can workout less at the gym, or just go anarobic. And you reduce your carbon footprint without your auto.4 Read more:Green
Take a Breath of Fresh Air - Inside 2008-02-26 15:56:00 Did you know that in many cases, the air quality outside your house is actually better than inside your house? According to the American Lung Association, many indoor air pollutants are 2 to 5 times higher than outdoor pollutants and in some cases, 100% higher. This is of great concern because many people spend up to 90% of their time indoors! Our home's interior air quality is compromised because many items in the home contain chemicals that off-gas - everything from furniture and upholstery, carpeting, paint, even kitchen cabinets. Besides living in the wilderness, there is not a ton we can do about this. But we can improve the quality of our indoor air by taking a few simple steps.1. Air things out. Cold weather or not, we should do this. Generally, I like to this in the morning af Read more:Breath
The YouBar: Customized Nutrition 2008-02-12 19:23:00 We are all on the go so much these days that having a meal in the sitting position is a true luxury. Skipping a meal is commonplace, and the after effects usually involves strapping on a feedbag to make up for it! I have tried dozens of meal replacement bars on the market, but none of them are made with my specific requirements and needs in mind.Until now, the YOU BAR is here!A brilliant mother and son team in LA began formulating and creating their own snack/nutrition bar recipes for themselves, and when friends and relatives started bringing them their personal requests, they realized that they were onto something. YouBars don't sell these in stores, only online, and you can select all the ingredients personally based on your nutritional needs, tastes and preferences. They offer many all
Green Shopping: An Oxymoron or True Benefit? 2008-02-12 19:23:00 There has been a recent surge in the popularity of green shopping. Several online stores have emerged, none of which impressed us. So we at 'I Dream Of Green
ie' have our own fabulous green shopping site in the works! Unfortunately, there has been some talk lately about how "green consumerism" is an oxymoron, because true greenies would simply consume less rather than buying more. While reducing ones consumption is one of the true cornerstones of environmentalism and the green movement, and I am all for it, the need for green goods still exists and will continue to exist. Here is my argument:1. Green is going mainstream, finally. In the past, living green was reserved for hippie, all natural types and environmentalists. ( We have a deep love for both hippies and enviros btw.)Now the amount Read more:Shopping

A Good Green Clean 2008-01-24 18:16:00 This kitchen is in need of a good all natural cleaning! All of surfaces shown, with the exception of the stainless steel, can use the prescribed ingredients. In my opinion, we are a bit brainwashed into believing that unless we smell the powerful odor of ammonia or other noxious fumes, our homes aren't clean. This couldn't be further from the truth. Natural products are just as effective if not more so.You will have noticed many new "green" cleaning products emerging on market shelves. Many of them are good products and are non toxic to us and the Earth. The Method line of cleansers, Seventh Generation and even the Lotus Clean
ing System are all wonderful products. Even Clorox is jumping on the bandwagon with their Green

Why is the Press Not Asking About the Environment? 2008-01-24 18:16:00 I wish I had a good answer. I guess they have more interest in asking about non-issues like "Was Bill Clinton the first black President?" Ok I kinda enjoyed that one. But seriously, climate change is on the forefront of people's minds. All the polls agree, yet the press continuously stays away from it.If you have been watching any of the debates, you will have noticed this trend. According to the Alliance for Climate Change, A League of Conservation Voters study found that ABC's George Stephanopoulos asked presidential candidates more than 767 questions -- only 5 of which were related to global warming. CNN's Wolf Blitzer asked more than 402 questions -- only 5 were about global warming. Sadly, other political commentators and reporters have shown a similar disregard for this key issue. The Read more:Press

Don't Buy New ~ Refill Your Printer Cartridges 2008-01-20 22:39:00 Well, now that we are headed straight for a recession, we need to think about ways to stretch our dollars. One way to save some coin and reduce waste is to refill your printer cartridges. Rather than spending $35 bucks on a brand new black ink cartridge, you only pay $10. Color costs only $15 vs. $55. And contrary to what you might be thinking, there are no messy refills for you to deal with. All you do is hand them the old cartridges and you are done. Sounds pretty good, right? It really is, so check out Walgreen's Pharmacy , which is a national chain. Visit the photo department, and they will refill your cartridges on the spot.FYI The national office supply stores are not selling this service, obviously, since they sell the new ink cartridges. I already double checked for you. Being a gre Read more:Refill

Fast, Energy Efficient Cooking 2008-01-19 14:26:00 No, it's not a campfire or a blow torch.I have a childhood memory of my mother making our dinner using a pressure cooker. It had a small weight on top of it that would bobble around when it reached full steam. I have to admit, it seemed a little intimidating, knowing that if you touched it the wrong way, it might explode all over the kitchen.Fast forward to adult life. One of my holiday gifts was a pressure cooker. ( So much for jewelry and clothes.) Oh no, I thought. I'm not using that thing. It's old fashioned, it's passe, and most importantly, that thing is dangerous! After a few years, I decided to open the box. I read the instructions. I inspected the pot. Hmmm...no more bobble weight on the top. The new models seemed pretty much idiot proof now. So I gave it a try, with careful super Read more:Energy
FDA Claims Cloned Animals Safe to Eat 2008-01-17 21:35:00 Is it just me, or does the title to this article seem disturbing to you? A little bizarre? Unappetizing? The photo is of Dolly, a stuffed replica of the first cloned animal in the world. Yummy! (Ick.)As a self proclaimed "greenie", I have been delving into facts about the food we eat, and the more I learn, the more I become repulsed, especially by raw meat. Let alone cloned meat! Can you imagine going to Morton's of Chicago, the famous steak house, and they bring over the presentation cart, and they offer you the Clone Rib eye?On January 16Th, the papers reported that the FDA declared cloned animals and their progeny safe to eat, and now they can make their way to a supermarket near you. I don't have any scientific evidence to support that drinking milk from a cloned cow or eating it will h Read more:Cloned

Who Cares about Carbon Offsets? 2008-01-16 15:54:00 Apparently, a lot of companies. According to a recent article in the New York Times, individuals and corporations have spent over $54 million dollars last year on carbon offsets, which are credits towards tree planting, wind farm projects, solar plants, and other eco projects. This figure is likely to double next year, with the rising awareness and popularity of the "green" cause. Major corporations like GE, Bank of America, VW, and Dell offer offsets with the purchase of their products. With the growing popularity, skeptics are beginning to ask questions. Who are these little known carbon offset companies? Is the money going to good use? Is this really offsetting carbon in the atmosphere? How is that measured? The FTC, which regulates advertising claims, recently began hearings on the "gr Read more:Cares

Pre-NH Blogger Debate - Obama or Hillary? 2008-01-07 19:37:00 I know this is a blog about the environment but my choice for the next President happens to be Hillary
Clinton. I agree with her stance on the environment, I like her voting record on it, and I do believe she cares about this huge issue. Bill certainly does. He helps to raise awareness of climate change frequently for his foundation, drives a hybrid SUV and they have greened their whole house. One of the main reasons why I like Hillary is because she understand that the problems we face with the economy, jobs, the energy crisis and climate change can be bundled together and solved with the right incentives from government. Take a problem and create a solution - makes sense. Yet she is the only one who says so and has a plan to do it.Now in regards to the televised debates this weekend, am I Read more:Blogger

New Year's Resolutions - Get Green! 2008-01-01 20:25:00 Happy New Year
World!I'm sure, like myself, many of you are thinking about ways to make the New Year much healthier and better than the last one. Maybe add some purpose to your life? Just kidding. So, I have put together a few suggestions that can be simple to implement yet meaningful to your health and to the planet! ( We had thunderstorms on New Years Day in New York, uh hello, not normal weather! Is this getting your attention?)1. Go Organic. First of all, Americans are the fattest people on the planet because we are the richest. In reality, we don't need to buy or eat much of what we bring home, but we do so because its socially more acceptable than a nice drug or alcohol addiction! How about buying less and buying quality, such as organic? Start with staples like milk, eggs, tomato s Read more:Green

Recycle your Christmas Tree 2007-12-27 11:32:00 Did you know that, according to the National Christmas
Tree Association, there are between 30 and 35 million Christmas trees cut down each year? They plant another 56 million each each to make up for it, but imagine 30 million Christmas trees sitting in some landfill somewhere, taking up space and taking years to decompose. Not ideal. The I Dream of Greenie alternative: recycling your tree, which is my plan this year. My neighboring town is offering this service. I just bring it to the designated location, and they mulch it up and use it for ground cover on city and Adopt-a-spot locations. Some municipalities actually pick up at your house- what a deal! You can also go to the National Christmas Tree
Assocation and enter your zip code to find a location near you. Read more:Recycle
The Presidential Candidates on the Environment and Climate Change 2007-12-16 17:31:00 There have been several televised debates as well as YouTube debates featuring the Democratic and Republican candidates. I try my best to watch them, or TIVO them, but it's difficult finding the time. Luckily, I found a great site that I would like to share with you.The Election Guide 2008, by the New York Times in their Politics section summarizes each candidate's stance on climate change, what they would do if elected, and what their past actions have been on the issue, including Bill sponsorship and voting records. I found this tremendously helpful in determining who cares and who just pretends to care. Based on my light analysis, it seems that the Democrats care more about this issue, which isn't much of a surprise. Greening Your Year End Charitable Contributions 2007-12-13 15:29:00 Another year almost over. 2007. Gone. Pretty soon, the dreaded tax season will be upon us. Now is a great time to consider offsetting your tax burden by making charitable donations. If you do already, consider rearranging your allocations towards the environment. Here at IDOG, we know its a worthy cause! There are many wonderful green charities that can help us fight climate change and the challenges that face us as a result of it. Here are a few that I found worth mentioning:Carbonfund.org. Their motto is "Reduce What You Can, Offset What You Can't." This organization, along with their partners, offers individuals and businesses alike the opportunity to reduce their carbon footprint by purchasing "offsets." By doing this (which is considered a tax deductible contribution of course), your
Al Gore in Bali - Support the Cause! 2007-12-11 13:37:00 There is a lot of green talk going around. Eco this, green that...on my site, in the papers, and all over the place. The more we hear it, the more it seems like a trend of pop culture vs. an eminent threat to our planet. Not be so serious, but it kinda is. In Oslo, at the Nobel Prize Award Presentation Ceremony, Al Gore urged superpowers like the US and China to step up to the plate and stop using each other as an excuse to stalemate. Mr. Gore reminds us that it is up to this generation to solve this problem, and the future of our world depends on it. These are facts- the scientific evidence has been supported. Right now, delegates from 190 countries are attending the UN Climate Change Summit in Bali. Help me in supporting Gore in Bali by signing the petition found at 's difficult for us t Read more:Support

Eco Xmas Tree?? 2007-12-08 20:01:00 I love a real Christmas tree. The fresh pine scent, the natural aura, to me it makes the holiday extra special. With my commitment to living green, however, I had to ensure that chopping down a fresh tree was in line with my eco moral code. Can a real tree be an Eco Christmas Tree? They grow them for this purpose, and replace them with new trees each season, don't they? The tree at Rockefeller Center in New York City is green, with its 30,000 LED lights and solar panels, but its a real tree. I had to weigh the options. My original plan was to drive 65 miles one way to a Christmas tree farm and cut down my own tree, and make a nice family outing of it. Later I decided against it because of the unnecessary carbon emissions, the cost of gasoline and I wondered, "Do I really need to cut down y Read more:Xmas

Gore Invests $35mm in the Environment - Should You? 2008-03-12 08:59:00 You don't need $35 million to invest wisely. It was recently reported that Al Gore's reported net worth is over $100 million. Back in 2000, his net worth was somewhere in the neighborhood of $800,000 to $1.9 million, according to his tax filings. Boy, he did well for himself, huh! But how?Mr. Gore has been involved in many lucrative projects over the past 7 years, and his ties to Google and Apple are most likely primarily responsible. As the self proclaimed founder of the Internet, Mr. Gore has always been involved in technology, and his friends in Silicon Valley have kept him close during the boom years, resulting in his abundant fortune. Now, Mr. Gore is investing $35 million with EBay billionaire and friend Jeff Skoll at his new venture, Capricorn Investment Group, which is said to invest Read more:Invests

Boost your Kids' Immune Systems with Organic Veggies 2008-03-10 18:04:00 Back in October, I wrote an article favorably reviewing Jessica Seinfeld's new cookbook Deceptively Delicious. This is the "Results" post, so to speak. In the book, Jessica describes how to puree veggies and hide them in your kid's food. While many people criticized the book saying that she copied someone else's idea, and she gave Oprah 21 pairs of Manolos Blahniks for promoting it, I say "Who gives a shit!" It works. I found it to be brilliant and implemented her, or whoever's strategies. The only difference was that I went purely organic. Now this was at a time when my daughter was NOT consuming many (or any I should say) veggies at all. She was in and out of school almost ever other week with one ailment or another, and she would take a tremendously long time to recover. After several Read more:Boost

Getting Hammered Organically 2008-03-16 08:59:00 Not that we condone such behavior! Of course, the mantra of the eco conscsious is to "reduce." So drinking in excess is clearly in violation of that mantra. However, we are human and our nature is to err, and St. Paddy's Day is around the corner, so let's be real. If you plan to cocktail it up a bit, consider some organic alternatives. At this point in time, organic liquor, wine and beer is not found abundantly in stores, bars or restaurants. If you are headed out, an eco eatery will most likely have the largest assortment of libations from which to choose. City dwellers will have many options here. Rural/suburban dwellers should continue their "in house"drinking. These folks can either plan ahead and order online or hit the Whole Food/Wild Oats and sample some of their organic beer select
