Richard Hammond Crash Video
2007-02-02 10:00:01
The high speed crash which nearly killed ‘The Hamster’ Richard Hammond was shown on Top Gear this week and this is the edited footage of that horrific crash. There’s no blood or gore but it’s quite disconcerting to watch so be warned… Richard Hammond Crash Footage - video powered by Metacafe It’s pretty amazing viewing, and even more amazing that he’s sat in the studio talking us through the crash a few months after it happened. For those who are new to this story and aren’t aware what all the fuss is about here’s a short synopsis. 37 year old Richard Hammond (nicknamed the hamster for his short stature) presents Top Gear with Jeremy Clarkson and James May. The show is about everything cars and motoring and has garnered quite a loyal cult following in recent years. Apart from testing cars, and putting celebrities to the test around a track, the team also delve into the weird and wonderful, those stories on the sidelines of motoring.

Manchester Wins Race For First Super Casino
2007-02-01 18:45:44
Manchester has beaten tough competition and the bookies odds to become the first city in Britain to be granted a ’super casino’ license. Seaside Resort Blackpool and London’s Millenium Dome were the front runners and favourites for the honour of a regional Las Vegas style casino resort but lost out to the North West city. Up until now only small casinos have been allowed to exist in Britain, for fear of the effect that open gambling would have on society, especially youngsters who may be drawn in. Until a couple of years ago, bookmakers even had to have blacked out or covered windows so the activities could not be seen from outside. Now that has been lifted and the government has given the go ahead for 17 officially licensed casinos around the UK. The stigma of gambling and the laws surrounding it were looked at after the increase in popularity of online poker and other odds based games. If people could sit at home making (and losing) money from betting, the governm

Victoria Beckham Too Tight To Be Scientologist!
2007-01-31 14:48:33
Claims that Victoria and David Beckham would be converting to Scientology because of their close friendship with Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are premature according to pals of the millionaire former spice girl. thesuperficial.com report the following comments… “There’s no way I’d spend any money on that nonsense,” she told a friend recently about the faith founded by author L. Ron Hubbard. Says another pal: “It’s completely laughable that there’s even talk of her becoming a Scientologist. Just because people are friends with someone doesn’t mean they do everything they do. Scientology is like Kabbala in that it’s become all about money. Kabbala bracelets are now $28! It’s a joke. Scientology is an expensive religion; Victoria is too cheap to convert.” Having seen some of the crap Victoria has bought over the years I don’t think she’s particularly frugal. And if she is then why oh why?!? Ok, so the Spi

Bloc Party - The Prayer
2007-01-30 10:00:25
This is the excellent new single and video from Bloc Party called ‘The Prayer ’… They are one of, if not the best British bands of this century, and this song, the first off their new album, carries on where they left off with ‘Silent Alarm’, The album of 2005. This single came out in the UK yesterday and I’m praying (geddit) it does well in the charts so the band get the recognition they so throughly deserve. This new album, and first single with it seems very natural, with the same style but an increase in skill and maturity coupled with it. I’ll be doing a full review of the album ‘A Weekend In The City’ after a good few listens. But for now as I can’t resist, here’s my favourite single and video by the band… Pioneers Bloc Party , The Prayer, Bloc Party - The Prayer, Silent Alarm, A Weekend In The City

Amy Winehouse Kicked Out For Singing
2007-01-26 10:00:02
Jazz Pop songstress and Brit Awards nominee Amy Winehouse was thrown out of London’s posh Savoy Hotel for singing, according to The Sun. Gathered around the piano with Amy were Jamie Cullum, Michael Ball and comedian Craig Cash, while she belted out jazz standards such as ‘They Can’t Take That Away From Me’. The singer was enjoying herself when the stuffy manager asked her to leave and despite her protestations, was lead away by friends. Earlier in the day she’d attended ‘The South Bank Show Awards’ in the hotel’s main ballroom, where she picked up the Best Pop gong for her album ‘Back To Black’. Changing out of her awards frock and into a plain old T-shirt and jeans, Amy decided to knock back some Martini cocktails in the American Bar. There was a lounge pianist tinkling away and Amy and her gang asked if they could join in. That’s when management stepped in and told her to desist playing and singing. Personally I woul

Children Of Men
2007-01-25 10:00:37
This is a film that passed me by when it was released last summer, to critical but not commercial success. What can I say? There was other stuff going on, such as James Bond and X-Men 3! Plus of course, this blog wasn’t in existence then so I wasn’t so in tune with the releases and buzz surrounding various films, music and TV programmes. Regardless, the Oscar nominations and DVD release of ‘Children of Men’ has made me take a look at it, and I find it’s an incredibly well made and exciting story with a top cast. It is the year 2027 and humanity is coming to an end. The last children to be born were in 1995, now known as Omegas, as fertility levels dropped suddenly to zero. We see how England is run from this moment with democracy rapidly being relaced by a dictatorship. But there is one last hope for the human race, a pregnant woman, belived to be carrying a baby girl is found and the film is a desperate race to save the woman and child’s life. Here

Keira Knightley Sues For Being Thin
2007-01-24 13:00:48
British actress Keira Knightley is suing a British newspaper over claims she is anorexic. The Pirates Of The Caribbean star, who was recently pictured on a beach in a series of bikini shots has reached the end of the tether over the constant press attention of her size and weight. The Daily Mail, a British tabloid who seem to specialise in sensationalist front pages, claimed Keira lied about having an eating disorder. Her lawyer says “The article made reference to what it perceived to be Ms Knightley’s very slim appearance. The article then reported the recent, tragic death of a teenage girl who suffered from anorexia and contained an interview with the girl’s mother. We wish to make clear that Ms Knightley has the deepest sympathy for the girl’s family. Ms Knightley has publicly denied suggestions that she might be anorexic or have a similar eating disorder, including in a prominent way at a well-publicised press conference to mark the European premiere of Pi

The Klaxons - Golden Skans
2007-01-23 10:00:52
This is the new video and single by new and upcoming British band ‘The Klaxons’. Called ‘Golden Skans’, it’s out now, having been released yesterday Monday 22nd January. The band from London are soon going to be very busy, with 1st album ‘Myths Of The Near Future’ out on the 29th January. From February, they will be headining the NME indie rave tour which completely sold out in a matter of days. Their music style has been coined ‘New Rave’, part of a burgeoning scene growing in the UK with a mixture of dance and indie beats. HMV described their music as “acid-rave sci-fi punk-funk”, which apart from being a mouthful, describes it fantastically. This band and the scene they are riding the wave of, are destined for big things so see what you think and keep an eye out for even greater releases in the future. Notes On A Scandal - Film Trailer
2007-02-06 10:00:34
This new film, starring Dame Judi Dench and Cate Blachett looks like an incredibly well acted drama. Adapted from Zoe Heller’s Man Booker Prize nominated 2003 novel of the same name, it’s a mean psychological thriller concerning deceit and betrayal. Judi stars as the machiavellian school teacher Barbara Covett, while Cate is a quiet family woman, whose life is changed when she starts an ill-conceived affair with a 15 year old pupil. Judi’s character uses the knowledge of this affair to further her relationship with Cate, in ominous and nasty ways. With two of the best female British actors ever and a stellar suporting cast including Bill Nighy and Emma Kennedy, this looks like a must see for fans of the genre. It was available at limited cinemas around Christmas and is now on at cinemas nationwide. Mika - Grace Kelly
2007-02-07 10:00:17
I’ve resisted the hype for 3 weeks but I can do it no more and have to share Mika’s Grace Kelly with any readers who have not had the pleasure yet… It’s been Number One in the British Chart for 3 weeks now, getting there on Download sales alone until last week when it was finally released on CD. It’s only the second song to manage to make Number One purely on downloads, the first being Gnarls Barkley’s ‘Crazy’. It’s a great tune, with a novelty feel, but with it, still feels like a proper pop song. Beirut born 23 year old Mika wrote the song after a loveless liasion with a record company, where they wanted him to basically be their bitch. It’s an infectious slice of camp pop music, and reminds me somewhat of the Scissor Sisters. Mika’s voice has drawn parallels with Queen singer Freddie Mercury, and I can’t disagree. I think we need to see what the album (which came out on Monday 5th Feb) brings before we give h

The Latualatuka Chain Letter
2007-02-08 10:00:52
Would everyone please stop spreading and copying this vile piece of scaremongering all around the internet! It’s pure and utter bunkum, so just desist from making people crap themselves and tricking them into putting this superstitious claptrap on every MySpace account, YouTube page and blog. For anyone who doesn’t know what I’m talking about, the one thing I won’t do is further the terrible scam by repeating it on Pop Buzz UK. It’s basically a hugely successful but morally wrong chain letter that’s doing the rounds. Posted on various pages, mainly in the comments section, will be a short story, pre-empted by WARNING, PLEASE DON’T READ! It then goes on to tell the story of a mythical murder, and then warns that as you have read the story, the spirit of the murder victim will steal your soul on the next full moon. Unless of course (and here’s the rub) you retype the above message on 3 other videos/blogs/myspace pages. According to Wikiped

Anna Nicole Smith Dies At 39
2007-02-09 10:00:47
As the whole world and his dog knows by now, Anna Nicole Smith died last night, at around 8.40PM UK time. I was really shocked when I heard the news while listening to the radio. Maybe because of her young age, maybe because her son died only 5 months ago, just something about it, made me pause for a good few moments. The cause of death is still unknown although a drugs overdose is suspected because of the nature and situation surrounding the tragic case. She collapsed and was not breathing and unresponsive when paramedics arrived at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel, Hollywood, where she was staying with her lawyer boyfriend Howard K Stern. The woman had quite an incredible yet tragic life, courting controversy from the moment she met billionaire oil tycoon J Howard Marshall II while working as a topless dancer. 63 years his junior, it didn’t stop them marrying 2 years later in 1994 despite protestations from his family and worldwide revulsion at the coupling. Marshall died 14 mont

13/02/07 New Single Picks Of The Week
2007-02-13 10:00:51
There’s some great new singles out this week in the UK, so I thought I’d highlight some of the best. Here are my four picks for this week courtesy of YouTube. We start with Snow Patrol and ‘Open Your Eyes’. From the album ‘Eyes Open’, this is a great slice of pop very much in keeping with their tried and trusted sound. The video is great too, with actual footage from the classic cult film C’était un rendez-vous by director Claude Lelouch. Next is Corinne Bailey Rae’s new single called ‘I’d like to’. It’s a beautiful song which really shows off her voice to it’s full potential. The video is a live version from a Radio 1 Live Lounge session she performed last year. The Towers Of London are a historic landmark… but also a band who were notorious for raucus gigs, usually ending in riots. And then lead singer Donny Tourette entered the Celebrity Big Brother house and their notoriety and fame went up.

Happy Valentines Day
2007-02-14 08:00:38
So today is Valentines Day, the 14th of February, and I hope you all have a good time with your loved ones. Whatever you have planned, be it a nice romantic meal out, cosying up on the sofa watching a lovey dovey film, or simply putting the kids to bed early for a quick snog, I hope you enjoy it immensely. Although I have a bit of a problem with the whole idea of one day to celebrate your love, surely that’s every day of the year! And I do think it’s a bit of an invention of the card industry to fill the gap between Christmas and Easter. Apparently 1 billion cards are sent each year, so the vast majority of us take part in some way. I’m not adverse to a bit of romance myself so will be celebrating too, despite my reservations about this particular holiday. Today is also Singles Awareness Day or SAD, a humurous, self deprecating holiday for those of us who may be single at this time of the year. Whether you are alone or have someone to share it with, please see it

Music And Lyrics Preview
2007-02-15 08:00:05
This is the new film starring Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore. Music And Lyrics is the story of Alex Fletcher (Grant), one time big popstar who gets signed up for a show called ‘Battle of the 80s Has-Beens’. With less than a week to come up with a hit song, he enlists his cleaner Sophie (Barrymore) to help him after she exhibits some lyrical skills. Obviously, no Hugh Grant film is complete without a romance, and these two get it on and end up having a working/fun relationship. With supporting roles played by Brad Garrett from ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’ and Kristen Johnston from ‘3rd Rock From The Sun’, this looks like a strong film. While the faux retro music footage fills me with dread, it has the desired effect and just reminds me of Duran Duran. Hugh is his normal cheesy self, but that’s why he love him so and he doesn’t ever disappoint fans of his rom-com performances. And with yesterday being Valentine’s Day (obviously instru

Brit Awards 2007
2007-02-16 09:00:05
Wednesday night saw the Brit awards 2007 take place at Earl’s court arena in London. The annual awards ceremony for the British music scene was shown on ITV, completely live for the first time in almost 20 years. That was the shambolic performance by topless pin-up Samantha Fox and Mick Fleetwood, when almost everything went wrong, and these 2 amateur presenters couldn’t deal with it. No such problems this year, when man of the moment Russell Brand handled everything sublimely, and was funny to boot! The big winners this year were the Arctic Monkeys, with no surprises that they won both Best British Group, and Best British Album for ‘Whatever people say I am, that’s what I’m not’. They shared the top billing and award take home with The Killers, who won both International Group and International Album for ‘Sam’s Town’. The rest of the awards were pretty evenly shared out, with highlights being The Fratellis winning ‘Best Bre

20/02/07 New Music Picks Of the Week
2007-02-20 09:00:01
It’s time for my pick of this week’s new single releases here in the UK, and this week sees some beauties. All courtesy of YouTube of course so without further ado… We start with the Kaiser Chiefs new song ‘Ruby’, the first to be released from the album ‘Yours Truly, Angry Mob’ which is released next Monday. The Leeds band will be hoping to recapture the success of first album ‘Employment’ which gave us such modern classics as ‘Every Day I Love You less And Less’ and ‘I Predict A Riot’. I think ‘Ruby’ is a great comeback single, and pure pop. They haven’t changed their sound significantly but enout to give fans something to chew on. Next up is American beauty and god’s gift to men Beyonce with ‘Listen’ from the album ‘B-Day’. Despite the name of the album always bugging me because of it’s similarity to bidet, I think Beyonce is growing all the time as a

Blair Announces Troop Withdrawal
2007-02-21 16:06:49
This morning, Tony Blair announced a part withdrawal of troops from Iraq over the comeing months. Unfortunately the rumours from late last night of a full withdrawal being announced by No.10 Downing Street were unfounded. Britain will withdraw about 1,600 soldiers from the Southern part of the country, handing control of it over to Iraqi forces. This will bring the UK’s forces in Iraq to under 5,000 by the summer, down from nearly 40,000 at the time of the conflict. Last night, the proposed press conference and announcement of withdrawal was leaked, which lead to many false accounts of what could actually be on the table. The rolling TV and radio news channels were full of speculation that Blair might have at last capitulated to the British people’s stance on the war. All opinion polls and surveys on the matter show that the majority want out, and as soon as possible. But it seems this was much ado about nothing. British troops are now committed to staying in Iraq until at

Hot Fuzz Film Preview
2007-02-21 09:00:41
This is the new film by Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright, best known for the excellent ‘Shaun Of The Dead’. Coming out last Wednesday (Valentines Day) in the UK, March 15th in Australia and April 20th in America, it’s another comedy very much in the same mould as SOTD. The pairing of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost again get together as a brilliant double act, playing off each other and delivering some classic lines. The cast also includes former Bond Timothy Dalton, the brilliant Jim Broadbent and Billy Whitelaw. Hot Fuzz follows the story of Nicholas Angel (Pegg), a London police officer with such a great arrest success record he makes the rest of the force look bad. So his superiors ship him out to the sleepy suburb of Sandford, virtually crime free. He’s partnered with Danny Butterman (Frost), who longs for some action, gun fights and big time crimes happening in his vicinity. As the two form a friendship, so some weird occurences start to happen, culminating in som

Heroes Finally Hits The UK
2007-02-22 09:00:20
It was a long time coming but finally, the biggest show on US TV has finally hit the UK airwaves. Heroes debuted on the Sci-Fi channel on Sky and Cable TV on Monday. Even though the Americans are up to episode 16 already, us Brits have had to wait until now to see what’s been touted as “the next Lost”. For those few who don’t know anything about the show, this hit drama follows ordinary people with extraordinary powers. During the series, characters from all walks of life discover that they have individual super powers, such as teleportation, time travel and flight. Over time, these people become aware that they are not alone, and must unite to save the world. That’s it in a nutshell but obviously the plot twists and turns and is even more convaluted than Lost if that’s possible. The show already has a stellar cast including Ali Larter and Hayden Panittiere, which has now been swelled by Christopher Eccleston (Doctor Who) and George Takei (Star Tre

Prince Harry Going To Iraq
2007-02-23 09:00:28
It looks as though Prince Harry , member of the British royal family and 3rd in line to the throne is going to Iraq to fight. The Ministry of Defence confirmed today that Prince Harry and his unit, A Squadron The Blues and Royals, part of the Household Cavalry Regiment, would be serving in Iraq from May or June. Over the past few days there has been intense speculation as to whether his unit would be one of those chosen to take over from already serving regiments in the gulf, and of course whether even if they did, Harry would be allowed to join them or kept back in this country as a matter of national security. It was claimed that Prince Harry had threatened to resign his commission if he was not deployed with his men. The last member of the Royal Family to serve in a war zone was Prince Andrew, who was sent to the Falklands in 1982 as a Royal Navy helicopter pilot. Sources within his regiment report that Harry was “Over the moon” to be given permission to join the fight an

Chelsea Vs Arsenal - 2007 Carling Cup Final Report
2007-02-27 09:00:33
On Sunday, the Carling cup final was played at Cardiff’s Millenium stadium. Contested between Arsenal and Chelsea , to say it was a hard forught and exciting match is somewhat of an understatement. The game started genially enough with both sides playing their normal attractive foortball. In the 16th minute, 17 year old Theo Walcott gave Arsenal the lead by ghosting around Ricardo Carvalho and deftly slotting the ball home. Arsenal’s advantage only lasted 6 minutes though before Chelsea’s on form Didier Drogba snatched a goal after being given the benefit of the doubt and judged onside. To me it did look like offside, with only a defender Manuel Almunia’s leg possibly saving the goal from being disallowed. Until half time, Arsenal looked the better side, with their inexperienced young team asking questions of Chelsea’s expensive all star cast. In the second half, the game levelled out into a midfield tussle, with few chances at either end. Then the scary
