Real-Time Patriots vs Chargers
2008-01-20 16:23:26
I felt the need to give my 3rd Quarter review of the Patriots -Chargers game after ANOTHER Brady interception.First, Cromartie, what were you thinking running that ball out of the endzone? You lost your team 15 yards against a tough Patriots team.Second, Brady looks almost horiffic. He has shown flashes of the brilliance we have seen all year, but his stupid "Culpepper-esque" mistakes have put the game in jeopardy for the Pats. It's a shame that San Diego couldn't capitalize on the INT, because Maroney has been eating up the clock in the second half.Pats up 14-12 with 1:30 remaining in the 3rd.

Did Rich Rodriguez destory or steal files?
2008-01-15 21:14:18
ESPN is reporting that various files concerning WVU's football program have gone missing. The files detailed every player and the programs activities over the past several years. Rodriguez 's agent, Mike Brown, denies any wrong-doing by his client.Several people reported seeing Rodriguez and an associate shredding papers on December 18th.I would have to think that good ol' Rich would be smarter than that. In the midst of his legal troubles with WVU, any kind of scandal is not good. We'll see what comes of this one...

Jason Garrett response
2008-01-15 15:01:13
Well well, someone decided to state facts instead of just an opinion...Well, let's take a look at the facts...First...Jason Garrett was never the Head Coach for Princeton. Steve Tosches was HC from 1987 - 1999.Second...Mike Tomlin has 13 years of coaching experience to Garrett's 2 years.Third...The Vikings were 5th in the league in Interceptions is '06 under Tomlin and 4th in Passing TDs allowed. In 2005 the Bucs were 2nd in passing TDs allowed under Tomlin. In 2003 they were 4th in Interceptions and 5th in passing TDs allowed. I could continue, but I think my point is made here.Fourth...The Dallas offense looked weak at times, with no variety in the play calling. On Saturday they looked almost stale.I think in the future Jason Garrett has the potential to be a good NFL Head Coach. T

NCAA Division I Basketball Rankings 1/15/08
2008-01-15 12:03:55
Last night's game completely changed the rankings I was going to post yesterday evening. Pittsburgh put on a gutsy performance and dominated Georgetown in all aspects of the game. The Panthers now have two big-time wins over GU and Duke. Watch out for this team come March! Here are Mr. Perfect's NCAA Div. I Basketball Rankings :1. North Carolina (a complete domination over NC State)2. Memphis (still hanging tough at No. 2)3. Kansas (this team is a LOT better than I thought)4. UCLA5. Duke (do they need a big man? UNC Coming up...)6. Tennesee (big win over Mississippi)7. Indiana8. Texas A&M9. Pittsburgh (Big wins: Georgetown and Duke)10. ButlerFell-off - Georgetown, Michigan State, Washington State, VanderbiltWhat a match-up coming...Dicky V returns to the tube to cover the Duke-UNC match-

Ravens close to hiring Jason Garrett
2008-01-15 09:09:00
The Baltimore Ravens are on the verge of hiring Cowboys Offensive Coordinator Jason Garrett . Garrett met with the Ravens brass again on Monday night. This was the second meeting between the young OC and the Ravens. Reports are coming in that Garrett could be announced as Head Coach as early as today. Now, my thoughts -Not to make MPSB(Mr. Perfect's Sports Blog) a Ravens blog, because it clearly is NOT, I want to comment on the last report.Jason Garrett? Are we serious here? 1 year as QB coach, 1 year as OC, and a pretty much horrible career as a player and that means you are Head Coaching material......I think not. The Ravens will be making a HUGE mistake if they hire Garrett before he has a chance to prove himself. They hired an "offensive genious" before, and we see how well that t

Why I Will Smack the Hell Out of Ozzie Newsome if he drafts a QB
2008-01-15 08:37:53
Let me start this post by posing a question....GENERALLY, what happens to rookie QB's that go into their first seasons tabbed as the starter? Unless you're Carson Palmer, normally not good things. To be fair here, with the reports coming out of USC, Palmer may have technically been playing pro ball anyway, or at least paid like a pro :-) That being said, any of the quarterbacks drafted this april, be it your Ryans, Brohms, Woodsons, all the way down to your Flaccos and Dixons, will not be able to step in and play the game at the NFL level. Now, there is no doubt in my mind that more than a couple will be good NFL QBS, but not without time to develop INTO NFL quarterbacks. I look at my hometown Baltimore Ravens as proof positive that this is the case. We traded 1700 picks to get to Kyle Bol

Laurinaitis is staying for Senior season
2008-01-14 19:46:53
Ohio State's two-time all-american linebacker will be coming back to the runner-up Buckeyes in a suprising move confirmed by AP today. Laurinaitis was projecting to be a top ten pick in the draft this year, a possible selection by the New England Patriots. Laurinaitis was the 2007 Butkus award winner for top linebacker and also the 2006 Nagurski Award winner as the nation's top defensive player. Laurinaitis finished the season with 121 tackles, and a record 18 in the BCS Championship game against LSU.Laurinaitis' move should prove to open up a wide space for the nation's other top linebackers that have declared for the draft.

Fantastic questions this week!Is Ryan Grant the real deal? - Jay D., BuffaloI think Grant has proved that he is the real deal. He has 209 carries for over 1100 yards since week 8. That's 5.4 yards per rush. Real deal? I think so. I felt bad for Grant after his first two fumbles on Saturday, even questioning my feelings about his talent, but oh did he make up for it after that. A 200 yard performance in the playoffs is absolutely amazing!Do the Ravens stand a chance of improving next year or are they looking at a few years before everything is back to good? - Josh W., BaltimoreThe short answer is, yes! The long answer is much more complicated. There are three key things the Ravens must due this offseason to be able to compete next year. 1. Hire an experienced NFL Head Coach, a rookie won't

Tice to Dolphins?
2008-01-12 14:15:46
It seems that the Tony Sparano deal never went through and there are new rumblings around the NFL that Mike Tice is the leading candidate for the Dolphins Head Coaching position. The story even go so far as to say Tice will be named Head Coach following a Jaguars loss to New England this weekend. Tice's return to the limelight is on a much better note than his headline making Superbowl Ticket scam from a few years ago. Tice is known to be hard on his players, but brings a much needed offensive mind to Miami.

Scott Rolen/Troy Glaus Swap
2008-01-12 12:35:38
Ken Rosenthal is reporting that the Cardinals and Blue Jays have agreed to swap disgrunteled 3B Scott Rolen and "Juicer" Troy Glaus. The trade will require both players to drop their no-trade clauses. Rolen will probably do anything to get away from La Russa, but Glaus may be looking for some kind of financial incentive to drop the clause.

Erik Bedard and Brian Roberts rumors heat up
2008-01-09 19:07:42
We have all been hearing the Bedard rumors for a while now, but it seems that a deal may be real close. Varying reports have the O's trading Bedard to the Mariners for a deal centered around young phenom Adam Jones. I find it hard to believe the O's backed down from their demand of Brandon Morrow, but it's looking like it.Another reports says that the Mets may not quite be out of the mix just yet, leaving about four teams still in the hunt: Mariners, Reds, Indians and Mets.A deal is imminent for Orioles infielder Brian Roberts according to various sources. The trade would send Roberts to the Cubs for Sean Gallagher, Sean Marshall, and Ronny Cedeno. According to sources close to the Orioles, it is going to take Rich Hill, Felix Pie, and Tyler Colvin.Frankly, I think you can leave Rich

NCAA Div. I Basketball Rankings
2008-01-08 21:13:36
I am currently watching the Florida-Alabama match-up on ESPN in a hotel room in Filthadelphia(pronounce 'filth-a-delphia'). How sad is it that Florida is only a shell of last years team?Anyway...Here are Mr. Perfect's NCAA Div. I Basketball Rankings :1. North Carolina (what happens if Hansborough goes down?)2. Memphis (very very close 2nd)3. UCLA (beat No. 5 Mich St.)4. Kansas (Darnell Jackson, 67.6%, nuff said)5. Michigan State (Rough early loss to UCLA, but picking it up)6. Washington State (not sold, eassssy early schedule)7. Duke (anyone have someone over 6'8" 250 lbs the devils can borrow?)8. Tennesee (two Top 25 match-ups coming up, Vanderbilt and Mississipi, talk to me then)9. Georgetown (HUGE!)10. Vanderbilt (very strong young team, can prove something with a win over Ten

LSU vs OSU...BEATDOWN IN THE BAYOU!!!
2008-01-08 08:51:00
I wanted OSU to win. I wanted them to prove the pundits wrong. I wanted people to start thinking that the Big 10 could compete with the SEC. Last night, for exactly six minutes, they got me. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice...See, I guess the problem was that I let Michigan beating Florida get to me, making me think it could be done. Beanie Wells running for 65 yards certainly helped make things worse. Than they shut down. OSU's #1 ranked Defense was run over , passed under, and confused to the point that a 260 lb. tight end was standing BY HIMSELF on a pump misdirection to the strong side. HAHAHAHAHA!!!! Well, so ends another fantastic chapter in the storied history of blah blah blah blah blah. Now we get to spend the next 7 months listening to Georgia whine, Florida wh

The Clemens Report or Eye for an Eye??
2008-01-07 17:33:43
So let me start by saying this....I think Roger Clemens is an okay guy and a fantastic baseball player. Hell, he is probably the best pitcher of his generation. There, I've said it, now let me tell you what I think about his press conference today. I can completely understand that he wants to clear his name and that he holds Brian McNamee accountable for 100% of whats happened. But I find it deplorable that Clemens has decided to get back at the man who ruined his "good" name by ruining McNamees' life. So McNamee sends him an email and says "Hey Rocket, my kid is dying, and I just thought you should know that." Clemens, feeling for his one time friend, calls him back, but not without the TAPE RECORDER on. Multiple times during the conversation, McNamee asks Clemens "what do you want

Enjoyable/Aggravating Travel Note of the Week
2008-01-07 05:31:53
To take a page from my favorite CNNSI writer, Mr. Peter King...Enjoyable/Aggravating Travel Note of the WeekI am on the 6:12AM Regional Amtrak from Baltimore to Philadelphia this morning. The station was fairly empty, no crazies hanging around, and the cab ride to the station was only about $10. The train is empty, I found a seat and a spot to put my enormous bag. But....I cannot read or type to save my life. The train bounces so much that I'm getting half sick try to look at the computer screen. You would think that after 100+ years of rail service, the ride wouldn't be so bumpy!Oscar Wilde wrote, “I never travel without my diary. One should always have something sensational to read in the train.”Oscar must have been high the day he wrote that because there is NO way you could ever re

Sparano Offered Dolphins Head Coaching Job
2008-01-06 12:29:30
Breaking News...Tony Sparano has been offered the head coaching position by the Miami Dolphins and will accept it at the conclusion of the Dallas Cowboys’ season, according to a source. He was hired at Dallas in 2003 by Bill Parcells, who promoted Sparano to assistant head coach. He was the offensive line coach, running game coordinator and play caller in 2006. Parcells was hired as the Dolphins executive vice president of football operations Dec. 20. He has already hired Jeff Ireland from the Cowboys to become Miami’s general manager. The Dolphins were 1-15 this season under first-year coach Cam Cameron, who was fired on Thursday. Sparano also interviewed Saturday with the Baltimore Ravens and interviewed Friday with the Atlanta Falcons.

Tough day in Pittsburgh
2008-01-06 12:15:36
Well my prediction was wrong, but hey I can't be perfect ALLL the time.My Steelers lost in the final moments last night 31-29 to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Ben Roethlisberger finished the game with over 300 yds passing, 2 TDs, and an awful 3 INTs. Najeh Davenport had a rough night running the ball. He seemed to not be able to find the holes, if there were any, in the line.In the end, the Steeler D could not stop the Jags from kicking a game winning FG with 37 seconds remaining. The Steeler Offense came out for one last shot, but it ended quickly with a Roethlisberger fumble and sack.Great Debut Mr. Tomlin - Draft well my young coach, draft well...I never thought I would say this, but....Let's go Pats

Run Ray Run!
2008-01-05 16:27:49
Ray Rice ran for an astonishing 280 yards and 4 touchdowns in the International Bowl against Ball St. in front of a dismal crowd in Toronto. In the 4th Quarter, the entire stadium was chanting "One More Year!", imploring Rice to return for his senior season at Rutgers. Rice has run for over 2000 yds including the 280 today and 24 touchdowns. That is more rushing yards and more touchdowns than the highly touted Darren McFadden. Rice is commonly considered the 2nd best RB in the draft this year if he declares. My bet is that Rice becomes a better NFL back then Mr. McFadden. He's a bruiser by nature, but has shown flashes of finesse throughout his collegiate career.Good luck Ray! You have been amazing!

Every week the Mr. Perfect crew will attempt to answer all of your questions. On the third day after launching the brand new Mr. Perfect Sports Blog, we have a bunch of questions to get to. Below are some of them...Mr. Perfect, do you see the Reds having a good year or are they still "rebuilding"?-Steven M., Cincinatti, OHSteve, you pose a great question, and I'm not sure any of us know. They have talked all off season about making a trade for Johan or Erik Bedard. The Twins and the Orioles want Jay Bruce, Homer Bailey and either Joey Votto or Johnny Cueto. If they give up the farm, of course they think the can contend this year, but if they hold onto those prospects watch-out next season because the Reds will be dangerous. So to answer your questions Steve, we need to wait and see if a tr

It's Game Day!
2008-01-05 10:25:29
An update on the news and notes of today's Steelers game:Jacksonville @ PittsburghTroy Polamalu is listed as Questionable, but WILL play. He is a gamer and will make a difference in the game. Allen Rossum will be OUT and Marvel Smith will be OUT for the remainder of the playoffs.Trai Essex will be starting at Left Tackle due to the early season injury to Marvel Smith and last weeks injury to Max Starks who had season ending surgery this week. Essex has only been active for four games this year and almost missed the roster coming out of camp. A once dominating Tight End in high school and at Northwestern, Essex was moved to tackle in his sophomore year of college. His play will be the key to the game. If Pittsburgh has to cover the blind side with Najeh or Matt Spaeth to make up for t
