Snow Day!! 2007-02-01 15:21:11 Alex’s friend Kari A. during a snow day at her house in New York
We got a snow day, we got a snow day! *Insert annoying childish dance here*. And snow days mean that Daddy gets to stay home from work and play with Alex. Which means Mommy (who is coughing and hacking like [...]
Superbowl Fun for Toddlers 2007-01-31 17:28:39 A few days from now the ultimate test of the Gladiator will take place. Players will bash, beat, smear, pound, and race until only a select few, battered and bruised, will remain standing. Fans will jump, shout, swear, dance, clap, and thoroughly absorb every sweat-spattered moment. Yet there, standing off to the [...] Read more:Superbowl

V-Tech 3 in 1 Smart Wheels 2007-01-30 16:13:00 In the interest of fairness, I thought it was high time I gave V-Tech a little love in the toddler toy arena. Don’t get me wrong, LeapFrog and I are the best of friends, we even been known to trade skin care tips on occasion, but V-Tech pulls up a close second in the [...] Read more:Wheels

Toddler Separation Anxiety 2007-01-29 16:25:40 We’ve all seen it. The toddler weeping as if her little heart will break as she clings to her mother’s pant leg, absolutely determined not to let Mom out of her sight. Meanwhile, teacher, grandparent, or sitter stand by, desperately trying to coax the little Cling-On away with noise making toys, promises of [...] Read more:Separation
You Know You Have a Toddler When … 2007-01-26 17:03:24 It’s Friday people, and we could all use a little humor, because, let’s face it, Friday is the day you realize that all of that stuff you were supposed to get done this past week didn’t get done. But the weekend is on it’s way, so no worries. Ignore the fact that you [...]
Striking a Happy Balance Between Toddlers and Pets 2007-01-25 17:34:11 For many of us, the two legged variety are not the only type of kids we have. Many of us have four legged, furry kids as well. Striking
a harmonious balance between the two involves some work, but done right, it can result in a beautiful friendship.
First and foremost, a couple ground [...] Read more:Happy

Keeping Your Fussy Eater Full 2007-01-24 20:14:24 As much as I love to to try to reason my way through it, the fact remains that my toddler is a picky eater. Food fussiness is a primary issue with most toddlers, and it creates loads of stress for those of us who are ultimately responsible for their nutrition. And since we [...]
Toddlers With Asthma 2007-01-23 15:39:08 This is a subject near and not at all dear to my heart. As a matter of fact I am starting to hate the word “asthma” with every fiber of my being (and trust me, I have lots of fibers). My son has asthma. This of course was only discovered AFTER a [...] Read more:Toddlers
The Ultimate Toddler Toy 2007-01-22 15:24:15 I have found the ultimate in toddler toys. I am seriously considering contracting myself out as a master toy finder person simply based on this one single purchase. It really is that good. Okay, now we’ve all heard of LeapFrog, right? Of course we have. This little frog strives to [...] Read more:Ultimate
Toddler Up All Night? 2007-01-19 16:08:13 Really? Mine too!! We currently have some sort of fever, caused by sickness or teething, we aren’t sure which. It’s just a low grade however (low-grade for you laymen means under 102 degrees and treatable at home), so we enjoyed quite a few late night wake ups that required intensive rocking, singing, [...] Read more:Night

It's a Sunday Night Party! 2007-02-04 16:08:33 Are you ready for some football? The Remeta household sure is. We have our outfits picked out, our cheese dip ready to be made, our beer stocked up, and the tv screen dusted off and looking shiny as a new penny (which, when you think about it, makes no sense - a penny, no matter how new, still looks copper to me).
I had a few additional tips for keeping your toddler happy through this busy and fun day, to go along with the previous ideas from a few days ago.
- Make sure an early or mid-day nap doesn’t get interrupted. I know it’s tempting, especially if you have guests over, but make naptime for your little one a priority today. It’s going to be a long, very busy day, and you want to avoid a mid-evening meltdown if at all possible.
- Keep the food coming. Make sure your football fan gets their regular meals, and let them snack throughout the day like everyone else. Nothing makes me madder than watching someone else eat something yummy and me not getting a Read more:Sunday

UNDERSTANDING TODDLER MEDICINES
Last night as I pulled up what seemed like my umpteenth syringe of liquid medicine for my son, I thought (yet again), how upsetting it is to have to medicate my child on a daily basis. It is the infinite paradox of my life at this time, being an avid believer that America as a whole generally lives in one giant over-medicated haze, and yet wanting to do what is best for my son and thus following doctors orders to the letter. It’s also a constant feeding ground for the green-eyed monster. Why is MY son having these problems? Why do other kids have no problems? Why is my adorable, blue-ey Read more:Understanding

TODDLER BATH TIME TRICKS
As the curtain opens we are treated to a sweet domestic scene. New parents standing by the sink as they bath their infant in a padded little tub. The infant smiles and kicks his feet excitedly, perfectly content. The parents smile at each other and convince themselves there really is nothing to this bathing stuff.
The scene darkens, then lightens again on another section of the stage. The same parents are now seen, haggard and soaked, helplessly chasing a miniature person around the living room, that same person haphazardly dripping water and shampoo in their wake. Maybe this bath thing isn’t quite t

DEALING WITH THE STATIC CLING
How many of us have dealt with the static cling period? You know what I’m talking about, it’s the weeks, or even months when your toddler decides YOU are the only person in the world they need to be concerned with. This momentous decision is usually followed with incidences of whining, crying, and flailing temper tantrums whenever you are not holding said child. You have suddenly developed a severe case of static cling.
What should we do now? The war wages within our minds … soothe your child by giving them what they want - namely to be held by you 24/7 - or give them certain periods o Read more:Cling
A Treasured Dream 2007-02-08 20:08:54 Okay, I confess. During Alex’s nap times I tend to work on blog entries, check email, and more often than not cruise around checking out other blogs. I love seeing first hand what other parents are going through with their little ones, and have found the best tips to be had usually come from other moms, NOT from pediatricians. Of those blogs I have found some to be hilarious, some to be downright scary from a writer’s perspective, and others to be absolutely educational. I have never found one however, that touched me to the core.
Many of us complain day in and day out of the stresses of parenthood. The fatigue, the constant worry, the lack of “couple” time. But would we honestly trade even a moment? In hindsight would you give up any single bath catastrophe, middle of the night vomit cleanup, or oatmeal splattered dress shirt?
What about those people who want a child more than anything else in this world? Those who want to experience the first temp Read more:Dream

GET YOUR TODDLER TALKING
I distinctly remember mentioning that Friday would be here before we knew it, and here it is. I think there was a week somewhere in between, but I must have missed it as I swear yesterday was Monday. Generally I love Fridays, but today has not started out well. I was awakened this morning by a very insistent (and very smart) cat who determined that cleaning my hair would be the best way to get me out of the bed. Her accomplice was a very large (and NOT very smart) Great Dane, who determined standing by the bed and panting in my face was the best way to rouse me. Either way, as soon as I get up, they Read more:Talking
Mom Leaves Kids In Freezing Car To Go Tan 2007-02-10 18:33:43 Have you seen this??
This absolutely blows my mind! What exactly goes through a person’s mind when they do something this ignorant? Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not going to sit here on my high horse (which is actually not that high because I’m pretty short in the first place) and say I’ve never left my child sleeping in the car while I run in for something before. But I am going to point out that I never leave my child UNLESS he’s sleeping, I ALWAYS leave the heater or air conditioner on, I NEVER leave him if I’m going to be out of the car for more than 5 minutes or if the car will be out of my sight, and I ALWAYS lock the car from the outside so that no one can steal my child or my car.
In this particular case, the woman apparently left her children in the car while she went into a tanning salon to tan. The kids were left in the car for about 20 minutes, in freezing temperatures, and the car was locked but not left running = no heat. You Read more:Freezing
Alex's 100 Things 2007-02-11 14:49:32 Recently, whilst cruising through other parenting blogs I found a post that was just plain neat. It was called Ben’s 100 Things, and was posted on Ben and Bennie Wadell’s blog A Work Of Art: Raising Our Exceptional Son (by the way, if you haven’t checked it out, you should, this guy is GOOD, and his son is just adorable). In any case, it got me thinking. Could I come up with a list of Alex’s 100 things? Are there 100 things I know about him to begin with? Well, I guess we’ll see.
Here goes nothing ….
ALEX’S 100 THINGS
1. Alex has his mommy’s head. Compared baby pictures are almost identical. Scary.
2. Alex has his daddy’s body style. Good thing too, as “breeding hips” don’t look that good on a little boy.
3. Alex loves to talk to his Great Dane, Diesel.
4. Diesel is apparently hilarious in return.
5. Alex also loves our cat, Pandora.
6. Pandora does not reciprocate his devotion.
7. Alex spent 10 days

EMAIL ISSUES
I apologize to everyone trying to reach me, but apparently Yahoo mail has decided my email is no longer worthy. I have absolutely no idea what is going on, but it’s BEEN going on since Friday, and I am quickly running out of patience. I’m seriously considering switching to another account somewhere, which is going to involve a lot of address transfers and bulk emails to notify everyone. What a pain. In any case, I will be updating all this stuff this morning, and will post this afternoon to let you know my new email (for those of you sending in your toddler photos I will also update the email address Read more:Playdate

PLAYDATE ETIQUETTE FOR TODDLERS
Some months ago Alex and I joined a local group here in Greenville and we now have the privelege of attending playdates on a regular basis. Luckily, I am part of a wonderful group, and never had to give playdate etiquette a second thought until I started hearing horror stories from relatives and friends regarding their experiences in their respective playgroups. Apparently there are actually parents out there who don’t know what’s expected of them (and their kids) when attending a playdate.
So I pulled out my handy dandy parenting books, searched the internet high and low, spoke with Read more:Playdate

PREPARING FOR THE DOCTOR
I have to ruin Alex’s second Valentine’s day. More specifically, his doctor has to ruin it. Poor child has had a bad track record so far with Valentine’s, his first year he was in the hospital projectile vomiting and unable to eat anything. This year might be almost as bad. We’ll be headed in for a full tune-up, and Alex will have to tolerate the weight torture machine, the annoying tape measure head check, the pokey ear thing, the cold chest domajiggy, and worst of all, the owwy sharp sticky things at the end. Afterwards we’ll have stickers (like they REALLY make the owwy’s better, s Read more:Doctor

VALENTINES DAY FOR TODDLERS
It’s time to hire a babysitter, and get some well-deserved couple time for you and your significant other. If you don’t have a significant other, it’s still time to get a babysitter, and get a manicure, a massage, or something just for yourself. But the babysitter usually doesn’t stay all day, so whatever will you do with your mini Cassanova in the meantime?
Here are a couple of ideas.
Let your little one help you in picking out their clothes for today. See how many clothing items your child can find that are red or pink.

SHOTS = SLEEP ISSUES
Yesterday our doctor’s visit went fairly well. Alex loves his pediatrician, and he tolerated the shots fairly well. We had no real problems until last night.
It went something like this:
6pm - Alex is sound asleep on my lap - dogs barking, tv on, etc. doesn’t matter
6:15pm - I put Alex in the bed to catch a short nap (he doesn’t usually nap that late in the evening, as he goes to bed at 8 )
7:00pm - I get Alex up so he can eat dinner - he’s hungry, and eats well, but still sleepy
8:00 - Alex goes back to bed - but doesn’t lay right down like he usually does, so I rock him for a bit and he doz Read more:Sleep

TODDLER TEETHING PROBLEMS
First and foremost, for those of you who have children who cut teeth quicker and easier than Justin Timberlake changes girlfriends, I envy you. I also need you to pick out my next lottery numbers, because apparently you are one of the luckiest people on the planet. The rest of us are tired of feeling helpless when our little ones are uncomfortable, tired of trying to choose between thousands of “possible” teething medicines, and just plain tired overall.
The doctors, the books, and the experts say there is no direct correlation between teething and having a runny nose, diarrhea, or slight fever. As all Read more:Teething
Icky Sicky 2007-02-18 14:11:18 Alex and I are miserable. Nefer won ob us kin breafe out ob owr dose. We are also both achy, have tummy problems, and generally just want to curl up into a little ball and stay there. Well, at least that’s what I want to do. Alex is a firm believer that the show must go on, and despite rocketing what looks like cream of chicken soup out of his nose every few minutes, his morning is proceeding as usual. Yummy breakfast, yummy juice, fun playing with toys, clean behind. What more could a guy possibly want? I do have a sneaking suspicion however that we will both be taking longer than average naps this afternoon.
I’m just hoping mine gets to start in the next half hour or so.
Family Fun and Flu 2007-02-19 14:34:43 WELCOME TO OUR TODDLER OF THE WEEK, COLE!!

FAMILY FUN
Yesterday, as I lay half-dying with the flu, I discovered something that I will treasure always. I found something that keeps Alex entertained for hours. That’s right, I said HOURS. What was this beacon of perfection to all of toddlerhood?
Our aerobed.
In an effort to get some type of rest and yet still be a part of the family yesterday, I pulled our aerobed out into the living room so I could relax and still be in the midst of things.
Obviously I didn’t get much relaxing done (what mom does?), but I did get to Read more:Family

ANGELS WALK AMONG US
I’d like to introduce everyone to Morgan Kathleen Ownby. Morgan was not really a little girl, but actually a beautiful angel, given to this earth for only a short time to bring joy and happiness to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. I never had the privelege to meet Morgan face to face, but I kept up with her Mom (a high school friend of mine) and enjoyed regular photos and updates.
Over the course of four years, I developed an attachment to this angel. Every time I saw her photo, regardless of what was going o Read more:Angels
