My Next House?
2007-02-06 11:38:40
I am in love. In love with a 2.6m3 house. The m-ch (micro-compact home) has everything one person (maybe two people) would need: two compact double beds, each measuring 198cm x 107cm, with covered cushions storage space for bedding and cleaning equipment a sliding table measuring 105cm x 65cm, for dining for up to five people flat screen television in the living/dining space a shower and toilet cubicle a kitchen area, which is fitted with electrical points and features a double hob, sink and extending tap, microwave, fridge and freezer units, three compartment waste unit, storage shelves, cutlery drawers with gentle return sprung slides and double level work surfaces thermostat controlled ducted warm air heating, air conditioning, water heating I have always been fascinated with living in small spaces. There is something fascinating and inviting to me about the forced simplicity of the monk’s cell, the bed-sit, the one-room cabin. I have no doubt that at some point in the futu

Daily Quote… On Traveling Cheaply
2007-02-07 01:00:01
The real fun of travelling can only be got by one who is content to go as a comparatively poor man….it is not money which travel demands so much as leisure, and anyone with a small, fixed income can travel all the time. – Frank Tatchell Share This

Daily Quote… On Camping
2007-02-09 01:00:05
I was determined, if not to camp out, at least to have the means of camping out in my possession;  for there is nothing more harassing to an easy mind than the necessity of reaching shelter by dusk, and the hospitality of a village inn is not always to be reckoned sure by those who trudge on foot. – Robert Luis Stevenson Share This

Daily Quote… On How To Change Things
2007-02-10 01:00:34
To put the world right in order, we must first put the nation in order; to put the nation in order, we must first put the family in order; to put the family in order, we must first cultivate our personal life; we must first set our hearts right. – Confucius Share This

Friday's Feast #130
2007-02-09 17:54:34
Appetizer - Have you been sick yet this winter? If so, what did you come down with? I have had a low-grade cold for most of the winter, but that seems to just come with the territory in London. Soup - What colors dominate your closet? Earth tones; browns, greens, tans… Salad - How would you describe your personal “comfort zone”? A “comfort zone” is an artificially created mental boundaries, within which an individual derives a sense of security, resulting in rigid attitudes and beliefs, which may not necessarily be true. As such, I try to avoid anything that could be referred to by the term “comfort zone”. Main Course - On which reality show would you really like to be a contestant? That’s a tough question, as I completely loathe  and detest not only every “reality tv” show out there, but the entire concept, and all viewers/fans of them. Schadenfreude is disgusting and childish, and I’ll have no part in glorifying it.

Thirteen Vegetarian Meals
2007-02-09 17:25:47
As I have been exploring my relationship to my food again, I have been flirting somewhat with vegetarianism. Vegetarian ism still makes a lot of people wonder what it is that you eat, even though the vast majority of all dishes in the world could be considered ‘vegetarian’. With that in mind, here are thirteen of my favorite ‘vegetarian’ meals and foods. What are yours? Vegetable Soup: What could be better on a winter day than hot vegetable soup and warm crusty bread? Bean Burritos: Mexican food is full of amazing vegetarian dishes… Falafel: The Middle East’s (and my) favorite fast food. Gaeng Ped Pak (vegetable curry): a traditional Thai red curry made with coconut milk Black-eyed peas & Cornbread: Southern goodness! Minestrone Soup: Hearty Italian vegetable soup with rice or pasta - delicious! Pissaladière: Pissaladière is an onion pizza or onion tart from Provence. Ratatouille: The perfect recipe to enjoy fresh summer vegetables and herbs

Bottled Water
2007-02-13 13:37:30
There isn’t a product out there that is as silly (or cynical) as bottled still water. Sparkling water I can understand, it really isn’t available anywhere else, but bottled still water? Does anyone actually think that there is something better about it than plain old tap water? Obviously, yes, quite a lot of people do. That doesn’t however mean that there is anything good at all about bottled water, regardless of what all of the mob rule cheerleaders think. Bottled water is 1% convenience product and 99% marketing. Having a bottle of water with you wherever you go is convenient. Paying every time you want a bottle to put the water in and then throwing it away after one use is retarded. Never mind the lack of inspection, regulation or  testing. Never mind the cost of bottled water being somewhere north of gasoline. Never mind the enormous environmental impact of bottled water. Just keep thinking of how convenient it is to throw your money away buying the same reusabl

First Blogiversary
2007-02-14 02:18:12
‘Twas one year ago today that I began this silliness. One year ago I dropped all pretension of “looking for a job” and began to get comfortable as a self-employed digital hustler of sorts. In that time I have posted 782 articles containing 95,888 words (or about 119 words per post), not including book or movie reviews. Those posts have received 256 comments. I have completely redesigned the interface of the site twice (and changed software platforms once) in an ongoing effort to create something that accurately represents what I imagine it to be. I have wrestled with every aspect of this site, in an effort to develop something more than just another blog - something representative, not derivative. I have added 332 pictures to my photo gallery, and taken many, many more. I have begun reviewing the movies I watch and the books I read. I have branched out into authoring other blogs and broadened the scope of my writing. I have kept right on writing through the complete
