2008-06-18 14:22:00
While Tiger Woods won the US Open and provided sports fans with one of those rare moments in sports it comes at a cost. He'll be missing the rest of the golf season."Now, it is clear that the right thing to do is to listen to my doctors, follow through with this surgery and focus my attention on rehabilitating my knee," Woods said in a statement on his Web site.Woods said today he will have season

Scratch 2012
2008-06-24 09:06:00
I see the link on Drudge to Many Dutch Prepare for 2012 Apocalypse.Thousands of people in the Netherlands say they expect the world to end in 2012, and many say they are taking precautions to prepare for the apocalypse. The Dutch-language de Volkskrant newspaper said it spoke to thousands of believers in the impending end of civilization, and while theories on the supposed catastrophe varied, most

Help Wanted
2008-06-24 07:09:00
The Republicans still can't find someone to run against Democrat Richard Cordray in November for Attorney General to replace the disgraced Marc Dann. Jim Petro is the latest to say thanks but no thanks. All the other republican heavy hitters seem to be taking a pass as well after assessing their prospects. It's unlikely Dann's misdeeds will impact the Democratic candidate as most everyone seems to

Israel and Iran
2008-06-23 17:54:00
The recent military exercises by Israel , apparently aimed at Iran, have the international community and others in a tizzy as people try to figure out what that was all about. Got an interesting analysis today from Stratfor.A couple of excerptsThe New York Times article, positioned on the front page, captured the attention of everyone from oil traders to Iran, which claimed that this was entirely p

Real Clear Politics links to a piece titled The Absurd Caricature of Michelle Obama.   Introducing Michelle Obama, Angry Black Woman. What an absurd caricature this is turning out to be.   Not to mention a confusing one. Growing up on Chicago's South Side, Michelle was probably accused of "acting white" because she excelled academically and went off to the Ivy League. Now -- abraca

Kosta Koufos and the NBA Draft
2008-06-22 07:54:00
It will be interesting to see how Kosta Koufos decision to enter the NBA draft plays out Thursday evening. According to the Dispatch he has improved his stock somewhat with his predraft workouts.Once viewed as going 20th or lower in the draft, a reported combination of impressive workouts and better-than-expected athleticism, as well as some other first-rounders pulling out of the draft, have elev

Ted Strickland on Marc Dann
2008-06-22 07:40:00
It appears that Ted Strickland was serious about getting Marc Dann out of office. Not only did Gov. Ted Strickland call for the resignation or impeachment of fellow Democrat and former Attorney General Marc Dann last month, the governor's legal staff also helped prepare a case to force Dann from office if necessary, newly unveiled records show. That included a detailed PowerPoint presentation out

I have this to look forward to
2008-06-22 07:20:00
Looks like my drive to work just got a little more complicated. I-270 between Rt. 161 and Rt. 3 will be reduced to two lanes in each direction from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and to one lane in each direction from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., to install traffic-monitoring equipment. I guess though it is only for a day or so.

In favor of sarcasm
2008-06-22 07:09:00
According to this, those of us who have a streak of sarcasm are more highly evolved. Neurophysiologist Katherine Rankin at the University of California, San Francisco, has also recently discovered that sarcasm, which is both positively funny and negatively nasty, plays an important part in human social interaction. According to Dr. Rankin, if you didn't get the sarcastic tone of the previous sent

According to the Dispatch last year's backup quarterback, Antonio Henton, is transferring. With the emergence of Joe Bauserman in spring ball and Terrelle Pryor's arrival he was looking at being the odd man out, especially since he and Pryor have similar styles.Several sources close to the team said that Antonio Henton is expected to transfer to Georgia Southern. Apparently Columbus police have too much time on their hands
2008-06-19 08:37:00
Columbus City council believing that all the muggings, murders, robberies and rapes have been solved in Columbus wants to pass a mandatory bicycle helmet law the police would have to enforce. A memo from Public Safety Director Mitchell Brown encouraged wearing helmets, but said, "From a police perspective, enforcing the ordinance would be a challenge. Ohio State to Play WVU
2008-06-19 08:22:00
According to the Columbus Dispatch Ohio State is to play West Virginia the next two years in basketball. Bob Huggins gets the matchup he always wanted at Cincinnati. Rebuffed in his attempts to schedule Ohio State during 16 years as Cincinnati basketball coach, Bob Huggins finally will get his long-awaited game against the Buckeyes. Coach Thad Matta confirmed yesterday that Ohio State will play H

John McCain leads in Ohio
2008-07-22 16:22:00
According to Rasmussen he has a 6 point lead.   Last month and the month before McCain held a insignificant one-point lead over Obama.   It seems Barack Obama is bitten by the same bug in Ohio that has been plaguing him in the campaign. He is unable to close the deal. Of course there is plenty of time for these polls to change but it is fascinating that despite this media orgy of a

Carson Palmer
2008-07-22 12:05:00
There's a good bit of outrage in Buckeye land over Carson Palmer 's impolitic statement on Ohio State. About the Ohio State vs USC football game this coming season he said"I don't watch what I say. . . . I cannot stand the Buckeyes, and having to live in Ohio and hear those people talk about their team, it drives me absolutely nuts."It's amazing to hear what those guys think about that university a

How to stay hidden for 10 years
2008-07-22 07:47:00
You have to wonder how a guy wanted like Radovan Karadzic would evade capture all these years. According to the AP, if you can believe what they report, he was there to be found all the time. He grew a beard to change his looks but was out there practicing medicine and even submitted articles to a magazine. This lends credence to my theory that Osama bin Laden is probably hiding as a taxi driver in

Soccer Riots in Columbus?
2008-07-21 05:41:00
How humiliating! Soccer riots have to be a sign our city is becoming too sissified.Yesterday's war of words turned physical at halftime of the Crew's exhibition match against West Ham, when a handful of West Ham fans ventured into the heart of the Crew's supporters section.A scuffle broke out and stadium security quickly pulled the West Ham interlopers to the stadium concourse. The Best Reality TV there is
2008-07-20 06:03:00
Over the last several years has been this scourge of contrived "reality tv". I've never really understood the appeal. To me sports is the ultimate reality tv. A sports fan can watch it all their lives and continue to see things they never thought possible, never saw before or just plain great stories. This has been the year for golf. Earlier this year at the US Open Tiger Woods, while playing on a

Children shall be their princes and babes shall rule over them
2008-07-18 15:12:00
I was going through the book of Isaiah and in chapter 3 something struck me as it relates to our current political climate. Before you all think I’ve joined the Ron Weinland nuthouse or otherwise gone off the deep end. I’m not attempting to specifically apply this section of scripture to the present presidential election. In fact it quite obviously has a different application. It simply highli

National Review on Drilling
2008-07-17 08:10:00
Ed Frank has a must read piece in the National Review on the box congressional democrats have put themselves in when it comes to drilling for oil offshore. He points out that the current ban expires September 30th and explains the politics that will probably lead, with a little republican spine, to a lifting of the moratorium.

Danilo Gallinari Out
2008-07-17 07:29:00
New York Knick fans have our worst fear reinforced as controversial 1st round pick Danilo Gallinari is out with a sore back. New York Knicks rookie Danilo Gallinari has a sore lower back and is listed as doubtful for the remainder of the Las Vegas summer league. This isn't going to quiet the skepticism. Unfairly or not it's a pick hugely unpopular. Combined with the reputation European basketball
