Condi for VP? 2008-04-08 08:59:00 I have to believe the recent news reports of Condoleezza Rice pushing herself as a vice presidential candidate is a trial balloon by the McCain campaign.I doubt it will be successful. I'd have to say she has been one of the disappointments of the administration with little to nothing to show for her efforts in the middle east, North Korea and the Iranian issue. There is enough evidence out there to also indicate she is far from a social conservative which is one thing McCain's running mate is going to have to be, considering conservatives lack of enthusiasm for many of his positions.I understand the checkmate idea of countering the democratic ticket with her demographics but it is foolishness to think throwing a female or black on the republican ticket is going to get many votes. Most of t
Basketball Hall of Fame 2008-04-07 13:28:00 The 2008 class has been determined.Coach Pat Riley, broadcaster Dick Vitale, players Hakeem Olajuwon and Patrick Ewing, plus three others have been elected to basketball's Hall of Fame. Also among the Class of 2008 are player Adrian Dantley, coach Cathy Rush and NBA team owner Bill Davidson. Can't argue about Riley, Olajuwon and Ewing. Never been a Dick Vitale fan but his impact on college basketball can't be denied. Adrian Dantley was a unique player and interesting to watch but I'm not sure he's a hall of famer. Cathy Rush, WHO? pretty much says it all. I'm biased against owners getting in unless they somehow revolutionize some aspect of the game. I don't think Bill Davidson meets that standard.

Woman ticketed for speech 2008-04-09 07:10:00 I see the headline “Obama Delegate Resigns After Remark."An Illinois delegate for Democratic Sen. Barack Obama resigned after using the word "monkeys" to describe black children playing in a tree, the Obama campaign said Tuesday. So I figure another story about someone getting caught up in a poor choice of words, who may or may not have understood that some would take it as a racial insult. I read further and see this.Linda Ramirez-Sliwinski, a trustee in the Chicago suburb of Carpentersville, was issued a $75 ticket for disorderly conduct after neighbors complained to policeOk, maybe an altercation occurred with neighbors or the police when they arrived but then I go further. She said the parents were outside supervising the children, but she went over and told them to get out of the tree
Feast of Tabernacles Registration 2008-04-08 18:51:00 So this Sabbath begins the annual rite in the United Church of God of registration for the Feast
of Tabernacles. Looks like we are sticking with our initial plan of Branson Missouri. There is some information on the UCG festival website pertaining to 2009 plans.Over the next few weeks, there will be some intense study for some new sites in the US. We need a site to replace Cincinnati. The Northeast as usual is undetermined. We are considering an additional Florida site. Central California is requesting consideration as well as Arizona. As far as the site to replace Cincinnati it's not clear from the statement whether that is a result of the pending Home Office move or some issue with the present facility. Also it looks like it's possible the number of sites will increase in 2009. One i Read more:Registration
Asking for a beatdown 2008-04-08 15:54:00 That's what Iran seems to be doing right now. David Patraeus highlighted some of their misbehavior in Iraq as they seem to be supplying the troublemakers again. In addition they announce more centrifuges are operating. They are also apparently arming Hezbollah.Whether it is a good idea or not I still believe it is likely there will be some type of action taken by either Israel or the US by the end of Bush's term.Should it become apparent conflict is inevitable there will be time to discuss the possible ramifications.
I'm on my own 2008-04-11 10:02:00 A few years back I was in the market for a new car and after much shopping around decided on a new Mazda. Today is finally the day new car owners dread, the day the warranty expires and the owner is on their own. I've exceeded the mileage. I have this vision that parts of the car start falling off behind me, leaving a trail as I go. It's an unfounded vision since I've had no real problems to speak of and no reason to suspect any in the near future. Usually I keep a car until I figure it's no longer reliable or I've reached the point of diminishing returns on repair and decide to get rid of it before it sucks me dry. Then I'll go out and buy another new one. I know some say to avoid the depreciation and buy used but spending 7 years in the car business, mostly at the used car
Sometimes the truth is a defense 2008-04-10 07:49:00 From today’s Columbus Dispatch.MOUNDSVILLE, W.Va.—Calling students "trailer trash" for bad behavior is an offense, but in Marshall County, it merits only a one-day suspension, not two. That's the ruling from the Board of Education, which voted Tuesday to override an earlier penalty for John Marshall High School adviser Nicole Shipman. The board says Shipman should be reimbursed for the extra day she was off.Last month, Shipman handed a memo to some unruly students, warning that if they insisted on acting like trailer trash, that's how she would treat them. Her penalty was probably lightened due to the accuracy of her statement. Having been through Moundsville in the past, lets just say there’s a lot of pink flamingos there

Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi would give.Mr Berlusconi, the centre-right's candidate in elections this weekend, was quoted as telling local media that the left had "no taste" in women.Mr Berlusconi was quoted as saying that when he looked round parliament, he found that female politicians from the right were "more beautiful". "The left has no taste, even when it comes to women," the 71-year-old was quoted as saying.
Is Marc Dann Done? 2008-04-13 16:57:00 Anyone want to bet on whether Ohio Attorney General Marc Dann serves out his full term? These sexual harassment allegations against his aide Anthony Gutierrez are starting to raise the stink of a much bigger problem than the allegations against Gutierrez. You can tell there is more out there because after initially promising to completely cooperate Marc Dann is starting to stonewall according to the Dispatch. There also seem to be some odd comings and goings from Marc Dann’s condo that are being revealed in the investigation.I can only guess on where this is going to lead. Now that he has raised the ire of the Columbus Dispatch by refusing to release information, in direct contradiction to what he campaigned on, they are going to latch on to him like a dog on a bone. His political future i
Throwing them overboard 2008-04-14 14:38:00 It appears Ohio Attorney General Marc Dann is throwing men overboard now to avoid the ship going down as he suspends communication director Leo Jennings. The attorney general's office said today that the action resulted from "new information received over the weekend." Spokesman Ted Hart would not discuss the information. It's not feasible that this sexual harrassment investigation involves Anthony Gutierrez and Leo Jennings, all of whom share a condo with Marc Dann, and doesn't end up tarring him. It may be a slow death but the likely result is going to be Marc Dann getting spitzered.
Hillary, Guns and Religion 2008-04-14 06:47:00 If you are going to claim to represent the gun owners and churchgoers it would probably help to actually have fired a gun or walked into a church for something other than a political event. That’s the position Hillary
Clinton finds herself in. After rightfully calling out Barack Obama for his condescending comments equating religion and gun ownership with depression over job loss, Hillary’s comments beg the question she was asked. When was the last time you went to church or fired a gun (insert Vince Foster comment here)? After a weekend spent making direct appeals to gun owners and church goers, Hillary Clinton said Sunday a query about the last time she fired a gun or attended church services "is not a relevant question in this debate” over Barack Obama’s recent comments on small Read more:Religion

There were supposed to be 3 days of council meetings after the GCE. No updates posted on those yet. I'm sure that news will surprise some.

Back to Blogging 2008-05-22 18:29:00 After a brief hiatus I'm back to blogging. I stepped away for a while to see if I really wanted to continue and where it fit into my limited schedule. After work, home responsibilities and other neccessary activities I really don't have much spare time but blogging is an enjoyable diversion for me.In a little over a month a lot of water has gone under the bridge. As I originally predicted from the Read more:Blogging
Wow, talk about stepping in it. 2008-05-23 19:22:00 So Hillary Clinton basically says one reason she is staying in the race is because Barack Obama could always end up dead.“We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California,” Considering how many Clinton associates and even poor Buddy the dog are pushing up daisies, that's an unfortunate thing to say. Some conspiracy minded person or John Hinkley want to be might even take th
Traded for a bunch of bats 2008-05-25 06:55:00 I guess it could be worse. He could have been traded for used towels or something. Here's a minor league baseball player traded for bats. During three years in the low minors, John Odom never really made a name for himself. That sure changed this weekhe's the guy who was traded for a bunch of bats. Perhaps Isiah Thomas has taken control of that team now.
Thoughts after the GCE 2008-05-24 18:36:00 I haven’t posted anything about the decision by the General Conference of Elders of United Church of God to overturn last year’s approval to move the Home Office to the Dallas-Ft.Worth area. I was waiting for a couple things. First, for the dust to settle somewhat and things to sort themselves out since mostly what flies around the internet after this sort of thing is a lot of speculation, inn
Memorial Day Jaunt 2008-05-26 18:44:00 We made one up to Youngstown and back (about a 400 mile round trip) to see my wife's birth mother (she was given up for adoption at a few days old). Maybe 20 years or so ago they were able to locate one another and the relationship has gone through it's ups and downs. Right now its good. The Chattering Class 2008-05-26 17:31:00 Over the last few years we've seen the emergence of a chattering class as it relates to the Church of God movement. They haunt the blogs and the forums. Most of the class consists of those who used to be affiliated with it in one way or another and generally takes a jaundiced view of events. I guess they use it as some form of therapy or believe they are performing some type of service. They'll re
Where Do We Go From Here? 2008-05-28 07:50:00 The report from the 5-22 UCG Council of Elders meeting is on Victor Kubik's site. On the United Church of God home office relocation is this:Whereas, in light of the passage of the resolution to rescind the 2007 relocation decision, the United Church of God must yet address the strategic issues and questions that led to the 2007 proposal,Therefore, it is hereby resolved that the President bring re

How close did we come? 2008-05-29 14:51:00 Anyone interested in how close we came to a financial meltdown over the Bear Sterns collapse needs to read today's Wall Street Journal. It could have been pretty ugly and most would have never seen it coming.
Flipping on Flopping 2008-05-29 11:14:00 Now the NBA is supposedly going to fine "floppers" next year. You know, the people who when an opposing player runs into them go flying like they have been hit in a Jackie Chan movie. Great, so who is going to determine what is a flop and what isn't. Just what is needed, another judgment call. Now the NBA is going to attempt to apply the laws of physics to determine whether a flop was a flop.Flopp Read more:Flipping
De Facto Gay Marriage in the US 2008-05-29 07:22:00 With California joining Massachusetts in the gay marriage club and New York set to recognize gay marriages it's clear that we do have de facto gay marriage forced on the country by legislatures, the judiciary and now by the gubernatorial fiat of David Paterson in New York. It's clear most voters don't want it as it usually gets trounced on the ballot. Short of a constitutional amendment it will en
Watch those speed traps 2008-06-01 08:55:00 Get ready for a blitz of speed traps here in Columbus over the next month or so. From the Columbus Dispatch. Barack and his church 2008-05-31 20:05:00 NBC is reporting that Barack
Obama is resigning from his church after the scorched earth sermon given there by Michael Pfleger that's been all over the internet and TV. This resignation has to be looked at as little more than political convenience, after all Barack was there for 20 years while Jeremiah Wright preached the same stuff. His resignation will not plug that gaping wound. Since he likes
Back to the Future 2008-05-31 20:03:00 With the vile Boston Celtics defeating the Detroit Pistons we have a return to a traditional NBA finals of the Lakers vs the vile Celtics. I have to root for the Lakers. Why do I call them the vile Celtics? As a long suffering Knick fan dating back to the days of Frazier, Monroe and Reed its impossible to do anything but detest the Celtics.

The Attorney General's Office; the state septic tank 2008-05-31 20:01:00 The Ohio AttorneyGeneral

Now an employee was rounded up in a drug trafficking scheme.According to the 33-page indictment, the allegations involve three people -- an employee of the attorney general's office and her two roommates, NBC 4's Tacoma Newsome reported. The indictment names charges ranging from drug trafficking to wire and mortgage
Rebounding? 2008-06-03 09:04:00 Is the question that has to be asked about the economy. Oil prices have been in a steady if slow retreat over the last week or so. It's just been announced factory orders are up when a decline was actually expected. GM announces a new production strategy designed to coexist with higher gas prices, which is a change for them (acting sooner instead of later). The dollar has been gaining some strengt
