Have You Seen Me?
2008-03-13 09:00:00
Maybe Barack Obama has taken my advice. The first thing he needs to do is get his wife, Michelle Obama, off the angry American tour and shut her up.

Prediction
2008-03-13 06:50:00
Elliot Spitzer will reappear in politics in a few years. He's too attracted to power and prestige to not give it another shot, especially since he is relatively young. He'll profess chastisement and say he wants to recommit himself to public service.I know his future looks bleak now but wait and see. Stranger things have happened. If Marion Barry made a political comeback after being videotaped smoking crack with prostitutes ( I know that was in Washington DC, but still...) then so can Spitzer.

When people like Eliot Spitzer and ex New Jersey governor Jim McGreevey end up humiliating their wives and the wives stand by them at press conferences the question is often asked, why? I suppose the answer is different in each circumstance but we may have a reason in one case. Turns out there are some allegations being made about the relationship between the McGreeveys and Teddy Pedersen, the guy who Jim McGreevey had to resign office over. They are more sordid than I care to go into here but it may explain why Dina McGreevey didn’t throw her husband under the bus initially even though she is divorcing him now. Whether these allegations prove true remains to be seen but they have an unfortunate ring of truth to them.

WorldNetDaily Article
2008-03-17 06:47:00
WorldNetDaily has a long article on Sunday vs the Sabbath in which Living Church of God gets a mention. A few excerpts:The issue boils down to: "When is God's Sabbath?" In other words, what is His holy day of rest? Most Christians today think it's Sunday, when the majority of churches hold services. But others confidently say it's Saturday, calling Sunday worship "the most flagrant error of mainstream Christianity," believing Sunday-keepers are victims of clever deception. Most biblical scholars have little disagreement when asked what day the Bible specifically calls the Sabbath.Even the late Rev. Jerry Falwell, a Sunday-keeper and chancellor of Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va., agreed with that timetable, telling WND in 2001, "I personally believe He was crucified on Wednesday evening .

Staying Home
2008-03-16 17:37:00
Looks like the Ohio State Buckeyes did not make the NCAA tournament. They have no one to blame but themselves. Their late wins over Purdue and Michigan State in the regular season were not enough to atone for the lackluster play earlier. If they had beat Michigan State in the Big 10 tournament they probably would have got in.

Are They Responsible?
2008-03-16 17:05:00
Alan Colmes asked an interesting question in the interview of Jerald Aust as it pertained to the controversy with Barack Obama’s pastor. Is Obama responsible or accountable for what Jeremiah Wright said? As I said Jerald Aust mostly danced around it not wanting to get dragged into that. I’ll take a stab at it though. Of course Barack is not responsible. He didn’t speak the words. He is not accountable in the same sense. However it strains credulity to believe, as Barack states, that he had no idea those statements were said and that Mr. Wright held those views. He’s been a member there for over 20 years, was married by him and had his daughters baptized by him. It’s simply unbelievable that he had no idea. In the sense that it is reasonable to believe that someone who listened to

Jerald Aust Interview Posted
2008-03-16 16:37:00
The interview of United Church of God minister Jerald Aust on the Fox News Radio Alan Colmes show is been posted on the UCG members site. Here’s the audio link. It is about 18 minutes long.A little bit more ground got covered than just Easter. They spent a some time discussing the title Reverend and then Alan tosses in a question about his views on the Barack Obama and the controversy over his pastor Jeremiah Wright.. He understandably danced around that a bit. The audience certainly got the full treatment with ground being covered on Passover, Days of Unleavened Bread, the Sabbath as well as some of the origins of Easter, Lent, some of the symbols, etc.Alan had obviously done his homework. He brought up a Good News article on the Passover timeline and asked whether Jerald Aust taught at

It's Ohio State
2008-03-19 11:31:00
Ohio State beats Michigan yet again as Terrelle Pryor signs for the Buckeyes. The signs were positive all along but you never really know what a kid that age is going to do. Now the question is, when does he hit the field? You have to think there is no chance of him starting this year short of a complete Todd Boeckman meltdown. Throw in there that Antonio Henton showed promise in spot duty last year and it's unlikely Tressel will hand the offense over to him. On the other hand it's also likely he will see some time throughout the year, especially since the battle the following year for quarterback will be between he and Henton. It's gives Buckeye sports fans something to talk about since the basketball season ended with such a letdown.

The Recruit
2008-03-19 07:01:00
Media outlets in Columbus yesterday were reporting that mega football recruit, quarterback Terrelle Pryor, is to announce a decision today at a noon press conference. Although the waters have been muddied to some degree it still seems likely his choices come down to Ohio State or Michigan. As I see it if he makes his decision based on immediate playing time he goes to Michigan. If he makes his decision based on a program he comes to Ohio State. Either one is a legitimate choice. I suppose Penn State could sneak in there for the same reason as Michigan but there you have the Joe Paterno issue coming to a head.

The Speech
2008-03-19 06:45:00
I didn't watch or listen to any of Barack Obama's speech yesterday although I have read a few excerpts. In a way the speech doesn't matter. He has staked his candidacy on the statement that he didn't know of Jeremiah Wright's views. The more I think about it the more ridiculous the notion seems. What, no one in the congregation talked about it? You see the video. The congregation is eating that stuff up! Hard to believe Barack wouldn't have heard about it unless he just walks through life oblivious to what is going on around him and I don't really believe that. Maybe he was there for the theology. Maybe he was there for the social networking. Whatever the reason it defies logic to think he wasn't aware of Jeremiah Wright's opinions. You can be sure people out there are scouring records, vid

David Paterson
2008-03-18 06:52:00
Last week I posted about the now new Governor of New York David Paterson. He's got a Wikipedia page worth checking for a brief bio. I doubt I'll like his politics but he's certainly an individual worthy of admiration for his hard work and drive to overcome his disability. Of course I was talking about his ability to overcome a disability and not necessarily his morality. It appears he is opening the closet to let the skeletons fall out before someone else exhumes them.In a stunning revelation, both Paterson, 53, and his wife, Michelle, 46, acknowledged in a joint interview they each had intimate relationships with others during a rocky period in their marriage several years ago.In the course of several interviews in the past few days, Paterson said he maintained a relationship for two or th

Bear Stearns
2008-03-18 06:22:00
Some comments on the bailout from Stratfor:It is important to understand what the Fed was trying to achieve. In essence, its goal was not complicated. It was trying to manage the collapse of a financial institution — Bear Stearns — such that it did not default on its clients, individual and institutional. The threat it faced was of bank failures, in which depositors would lose their savings. If Bear Stearns had been unable to carry out financial transactions on Monday morning because of a lack of cash, its clients effectively would have found their assets frozen. And that would have touched off a ripple through the financial system that might have caused a series of uncontrollable failures. The Fed did two things to prevent this scenario. First, it engineered a buyout of Bear Stearns by

Curious State Department Employees
2008-03-21 11:33:00
As I suspected when the news broke yesterday about Barack Obama's passport information being breached at the State Department the motive appears to be curious employees rather than some nefarious scheme, especially now that Hillary Clinton's and John McCain's information was accessed as well. This is really no surprise. It's human nature to want to take a peak at that stuff. Celebs have had their medical records exposed. IRS employees have been known to access high profile returns. That's pretty much standard operating procedure. Not to say it is correct or that those people do not deserve to be fired, they do, but this is not the second coming of Watergate. I saw Dan Abrams last night apparently trying to make the case that this is all a result of government intrustion after 9-11. Ridicul

US no longer world's largest economy?
2008-03-19 17:42:00
Here's something some are sure to make much of. Whether it's of any real importance remains to be seen.   The European Union has overtaken the U.S. as the world's No. 1 economy due to the continued dramatic fall of the dollar, according to a Reuters report.   The U.S. Gross Domestic Product, or GDP, for 2007 is officially estimated at $13,843,800 billion. The 2007 GDP for the 15 EU countries is estimated at 8,847,889 billion euros, the report said.   That means when the euro yesterday topped $1.56, the EU officially became the largest economy in the world.   Today, before the opening of the New York Stock Exchange, the dollar was trading at a new low, $1.5787 against the euro

If the Columbus Symphony shuts down would anyone care?
2008-03-24 08:15:00
Is the question that has to be asked. The Columbus Dispatch has an article on the possible shut down of the Columbus Symphony due to a lack of money and interest. Of course the musicians bemoan the possibility of a musical holocaust.   Jim Akins, lead tuba player and a representative of the musicians, has downplayed talk of the symphony's demise, recently suggesting that an orchestra-less Columbus would "lose its soul."   "If you lose your symphony, you lose a great deal of what makes a city great," said Stephen Kougias, spokesman for the San Diego Symphony, which disbanded for two years in the late 1990s. "I think you do lose a little bit of the soul of your city."   Really? If the symphony withered up and blew away how would it impact the average person in Columbus

2010 Governors Race Taking Shape?
2008-03-27 06:58:00
The 2010 Ohio governors race is already getting set with this revelation.Former U.S. Rep. John R. Kasich says he's prepared to leave a lucrative private-sector career and run for the Republican nomination for governor in 2010.He's probably the republican's best chance of defeating Ted Strickland in 2010. Most candidates with the stature to knock off Strickland were mortally wounded in the republican massacre of 2006.It is widely expected that Democratic Gov. Ted Strickland will run for a second term, although he hasn't committed to it. If Kasich runs, he might not be the only Republican in the race. Former U.S. Sen. Mike DeWine and former U.S. Rep. Rob Portman of Cincinnati also have indicated interest in the governor's office.I can't see DeWine being a factor. I suppose Rob Portman could

I went to work under sniper fire
2008-03-26 07:21:00
Sorry I misspoke. Actually what I meant to say was that there was a lot of traffic.Just amazing that Hillary Clinton would make something up like landing under sniper fire in Bosnia when she has to know there is footage out there, afterall virtually every public appearance by a 1st lady has cameras rolling.I'd love to know what John McCain's reaction to that was. There's a guy tortured as a POW and Hillary is out there apparently making up her own war.

Searches
2008-03-30 10:01:00
Occasionally I find it interesting to look at the searches that sometimes lead people here. Most of the time it's what I might expect but once in a while I am baffled. Some time back I was getting a bunch of hits from various ip addresses in Italy under the search terms "Paul World". That went on few a couple weeks. Never could figure out what that was all about. At one point I was getting hits from all different kinds of searches in China. That hasn't happened for a long time. I must be on their banned list now.   The oddest to me is the continuing searches on how to make a molotov cocktail. Back in July I commented on a newspaper article that was essentially a how to manual. Seems a lot of people want to know how to make one. Glad to know I'm providing a service.   There us

Rounding up the usual suspects

Congress is dragging in their favorite whipping boys again, BIG OIL.Big Oil is once again being called on the carpet. Senior executives of the five largest U.S. oil companies were to appear before a congressional committee Tuesday where they were likely to find frustrated lawmakers in no mood for small talk. "These companies are defending billions of federal subsidies ... while reaping over a hundred billion dollars in profits in just the last year alone," complained Rep. Edward Markey, D-Mass., in previewing the hearing. No one really wants to defend the oil companies' huge profits while people are paying $3.50 a gallon. The average person sees that and comes to the obvious conclusion. The oil companies are ripping them off. It's more complicated than that though. Those profits on the surf

Opening Day
2008-04-01 08:31:00
There was a time the opening day of baseball season was a big deal to me. Over the years I've paid less and less attention to baseball. It's gotten to the point where last year I didn't watch a single inning of the World Series. I couldn't care less about it.Baseball lost me with the last strike and I've not returned. Seeing frauds such as Barry Bonds break sacred baseball records like Hank Aaron's doesn't help matters.

Spoke too soon GO BUCKS!
2008-04-02 08:53:00
Ohio State had an impressive win over Ole' Miss last night in the NIT. I know, I said earlier their season was over when they didn't make the NCAA, thinking the NIT was, to borrow a phrase, not worth a warm bucket of spit. This impressive run in the NIT is allowing their young players to get tournament experience and develop chemistry. This should pay off next year.

Bloc Voting
2008-04-02 08:47:00
There’s been a good bit flying around on the internet pertaining to some documented concerns expressed by the United Church of God Council of Elders on the subject of bloc voting on issues and selection of Council of Elders members. Thiel as well as Ambassador Watch and others put posts up on the topic. From the 3-2-08 Council Meeting ReportMr. Dick presented a historical review of this topic. During the 1998 GCE meetings in Louisville, Kentucky, the Council ran into the only verifiable incidence of attempted bloc voting. A group of elders determined they would vote as a bloc for an agreed-upon group of candidates. It was brought to the Council's attention at that time, and the chairman of the Council and the chairman of the Ethics Committee were instructed by the Council of Elders to tal

Of Skybus. The city made a huge deal about Skybus opening at Port Columbus. As soon as it was announced people in the office got immediately online and starting booking their cheap flights. You had to figure it couldn't last. We've seen these kind of startups come and go. So now we have a bunch of people wondering around the airport with tickets they can't use or stranded out of town. At least it didn't happen on a holiday or a bowl weekend. I could see it now, a bunch of Buckeye fans with tickets for a flight to a bowl game on an airline that doesn't exist.Fortunately some airlines are trying to help stranded passengers to some degree and I've heard of at least one car rental company giving half price one way rentals to stranded passengers. There will be the immediate outcry about Skybus b
