Labor really isn't this bad...
2008-06-10 06:06:44
This is too hilarious - take three minutes to listen. My labor story is coming along and is definitely not as bad as this singer is painting it. In fact, it was really amazing how well it all went, minus the hour where I REALLY wanted that anestheologist to arrive. Hopefully I'll have the post written by tomorrow.BTW, labor is doable, with the help of a beautiful epidural!

Happy belated Father's Day
2008-06-16 11:44:51
My online time has obviously been limited if you've noticed my lack of posts. I know I wasn't on a computer once this weekend, and I believe I wasn't on for a few days before that... not really by choice but limited by time. :) Which is fine by me but don't be expecting blog posts as frequently. I guess I'll be lucky to do one or two a week, at least for a while. The only reason I'm on now is beca

Try this Postnatal yoga DVD
2008-06-24 08:03:01
I wasn't aware of the DVD Postnatal yoga by Shiva Rea until a week or two after Brijin was born. Added it to my Netflix queue soon after and practiced the first two segments of it about four times now in the past week. It's very easy going, which is just what a woman needs after giving birth. Plus it's targeting the abs and the back - key areas postpartum. It's been four weeks since I gave birth

Labor of Love
2008-06-19 20:51:07
Can't believe it's already been almost a month since I gave birth to our baby girl! I've been writing my labor story for weeks, but little Brijin hasn't given me the chance to put all my thoughts together at once.Speaking of which, here's my biggest advice to a new mother: SLEEP WHEN THE BABY SLEEPS. This is not easy to do because you feel like you have so much to do or even just downtime to enjoy

The Patriotism of Yoga
2008-07-07 16:11:08
Obam-asana: Three Essential Yoga Poses for Michelle Obama is an interesting blog post about how Michelle Obama should try some yoga. I'm always a fan of ANYONE trying yoga, but this blogger is suggesting it to Mrs. Obama to allow the world to stop seeing her in a negative light. As a big Obama fan and a yogini, I was drawn to this post, although I totally disagree that she has a negative image. S

New baby - will we ever be normal again?
2008-07-02 15:47:16
Read this close-to-home blog post for any new parents: We Have a New Baby! Will Our Lives and Our Relationship Ever Get Back to Normal?Better take a nap while the little booger is sleeping.BTW, she's starting to smile at me, and no it wasn't gas! I kind of captured a few photos of the Kodak moment.

The weighting game ...
2008-07-01 05:39:00
No, I did not confuse "weight" and "wait" in my post title for today, but tried to make a play on words - thought it was fairly clever for 5 a.m. and between feedings!Today marks five weeks since our baby was born, and I definitely have at least 10 pounds to shed before I'll be back to an okweight - 15 would be ideal. I've been trying to walk at least every other day for 30-40 minutes, but I can t

Lullabies I sing
2008-06-29 14:25:38
I grew up singing in the church choir and am so glad I did now so I have songs to sing to my baby as she falls asleep or when she's fussy.I believe this is a kyrie that our pastor used to sing at the end of the service - I really love the lyrics. I even said this one day at the end of my yoga class, although I totally spaced out on the words for a moment because I spoke the words instead of singin

"The soul is healed by being with children." Fyodor DostoevskyTrue. True. Now that I have my own baby, this quote resonates so deeply. Ironically, I have been receiving in my daily quote e-mail a ton of ones centered around children and how they affect us. Thank you God for our beautiful baby girl! She's exactly what we needed in our lives and in our family.Have a great weekend!

My peace of mind - Baby Wise
2008-07-17 12:28:36
Sorry I've been slacking on my blog posts. It just seems like when I get a free moment from the baby, I either want toa.) Veg outb.) Napc.) EatMaybe not all in that order but you get the point. Usually I end up cleaning or doing other household chores and by the time little missy wakes up, I haven't really had time to relax. Guess I'm not following my own advice to sleep when baby sleeps. So I'm re

Finding Grace in every Day
2008-08-07 08:26:02
I never really knew the meaning of grace until I read Cheryl Richardson's book "The Unmistakable touch of Grace ." Even after reading it and noticing all the wonderful little signs of grace in my life, I still couldn't put into words what grace means. So of course I went to dictionary.com and looked it up.grace [greys] - noun1. elegance or beauty of form, manner, motion, or action. 8. Theology.

Just feeding the ducks with Grandpa
2008-07-29 18:20:00
You've got to check out the Reverisble Bird Seed Skirt GIVEAWAY!!!!Seeing this outfit almost made me cry because it immediately brought to mind my many trips to the local duck pond with my Grandpa Caughlin. Not that I ever had an outfit as cute as this to wear to the pond; probably was wearing my big brother's hand-me-down clothes, which was probably smart considering how dirty I typically was as

Yoga is a journey
2008-07-29 10:01:44
I've been a little shocked with how weak my body feels in my postnatal yoga practice versus before I became pregnant. Heck, even compared to when I was pregnant! I swear I could do chatarunga up until my belly was too big and in the way to do it, which was up until six or seven months pregnant if I remember correctly.Six weeks seems to be the magic number doctors and midwives give for returning to

Back to work - waaaaa (that's me crying; not the baby)
2008-07-24 20:14:30
Started back to work after eight weeks of maternity leave. The moment I've been dreading since I had baby, I must admit. Although I will say, after three weeks I said to myself, "Self, you gotta stop thinking about the future and focus on the present moment." It really did help me to enjoy my time with Brijin so much more and let go, which I couldn't do anything about at that point. It's not like

We need HOPE
2008-08-19 10:12:30
My hubby tells me I've been blog-fading. Well, I'm a little busy these days with my 12-week old, going back to work AND teaching yoga 2 1/2 times per week. (I don't have time to explain the half!).To get myself back into blogging, I'm posting this commercial MoveOn.org is trying to air on MTV. If you like it and want to support Obama, I encourage you to donate to help get it on the air - I'm freak

Happiness is a seed we sow

"Our happiness depends on the habit of mind we cultivate. So practice happy thinking every day. Cultivate the merry heart, develop the happiness habit, and life will become a continual feast."` Norman Vincent PealeSo I'm trying to get back to my Meditation Monday posts. We'll see how well I stick to it! HA!The quote above by Norman Vincent Peale is a great one to utilize during your meditation pra
