Summer Show House 2007-06-27 21:20:57
Dear Readers,
On behalf of the staff of AH&L, I would like to extend our
sincerest apology for the unannounced closing of the 2007 Summer
Show
House
at The River Club this past weekend due to external factors that
were unfortunately outside of our staff’s control.
We truly regret any inconvenience this may have caused to our loyal
audience. We have sponsored showhouses and home tour events for more
than 26 years and pride ourselves on the professional execution of
them.
I sincerely apologize to you. Your opinion of our staff and our
magazine matters very much and I hope you will support our magazine’s
events in the future.
Sincerely,
Gina Christman

Deja Vu 2007-07-13 18:20:02 The staff of Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles had a deja vu moment this week when we spotted the September 2007 issue of Traditional Home magazine on the newsstand and arriving in our mailboxes. It is an almost exact copy of a cover we published in October 2005, a whopping two years ago!The similarities are endless: the image itself, with the exception of a pear they added to the tabletop (nice touch!), as well as the composition of the cover. The bold "before & after" blurb and typeface are the most shocking likenesses. The producer of the story was Atlanta-based Lisa Mowry. This is not the first time for a Trad Home repeat. A similar image from the cover of AH&L's June 2005 "Color" issue appeared on Traditional Home's May 2006 cover. Again, almost identical. If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery....
A Chance to Cook with Chef Robert 2007-07-16 11:52:59 Park 75 at Four Seasons Hotel Atlanta is offering three hands-on cooking classes with Executive Chef Robert
Gerstenecker, beginning with Indian Techniques on August 7 from 6:00-8:30 p.m. Tempting Tapas class is September 11th and Pizza and Pasta on October 9th. I still prepare dishes that I learned in this kitchen...I'd like to know your your most memorable in-restaurant cooking class.
NBAF & Embrace Kick off Tomorrow 2007-07-19 12:56:29 On NPR this morning I listened to National Black Arts Festival producer Stephanie Hughley give the lowdown on what's in store for this weekend's festival. Click here to listen to her take on Atlanta artist Radcliffe Bailey's exciting installation, DNA, which traces African ancestry, (or here for AJC's Catherine Fox's critique). And, of course, AH&L's own Lisa Kurzner profiled Embrace, the fine art fair of NBAF in our July issue, which is profiled on our Web site..
52 at 52; 12 for 12 2007-07-18 22:56:31 I love over-the-top birthdays. Monday night 12 of us were invited to celebrate the 52nd birthday...I know, it can't be possible...of author-extraordinare Carolyn O'Neil. Chef Clifford Pleau, Director of Culinary Development for Seasons 52 flew in just for the occasion to prepare 12 luscious courses to honor his special friend Carolyn (they met in 1999 when Carolyn, then with CNN, visited the restaurant group in Orlando) Lot's of wonderful food, wine and laughter. Makes me wish I could be 52 again.
Re-Discover Ray's 2007-07-24 14:55:22 Last night was the grand re-opening of Ray's on the River
(they opened for business at the beginning of the month). And let me
tell you, the place looks fantastic! The first time I went to Ray's was
to celebrate my new job (THIS ONE!) so it was pretty great to be
invited to Grand Re-opening to see the incredible changes the place has
undergone. It previously felt a bit dated and very dark, but not any
more! Now the restaurant is bright and feels rich with walls of
mahogany wine coolers -- the perfect way to showcase a killer wine
collection, an intimate banquet room, new slate-grey floors, iron
railings -- and best of all: the view! The restaurant backs up
to the bank of the Chattahoochee River, and the gorgeous landscaping
and walking path allow you to truly appreciate its beauty. Not to
mention the food, which is always fabulous. If you've never been or
haven't visited in a while, this is definitely the time to make a
reservation at Ray's on the Rver! 6700 Powers Ferry Rd NW Read more:Discover
Bittersweet "Closing Sale" 2007-08-22 18:53:16 Kilim Collection's owner Grace Sentell, one of our favorite Southern
mavens and a loyal supporter of AH&L from way back when our magazine was named SOUTHERN HOMES, is retiring at
77 to enjoy life with her friends and family in the mountains. The good
news in all this is the 40% off "closing" sale starting on
September 4th through the end of the year. Make a point to go buy
and scoop up some phenomenal bargains on flatweaves and other textural
goodies for your home.
