NFL Wild Card Schedule & Predictions 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Dave Goldberg, an AP Sports Writer that I always enjoy reading, wrote a column titled "Anyone can win this year in the NFL," but writes in only the third paragraph, "OK, realistically, drop the plummeting Giants and Cowboys and probably the Chiefs, who were a bit lucky to get in."Though I don't think the Eagles will be going all the way this year, Goldberg ends his article by writing, "So let's send Philly to Miami. The Eagles are on their own once they get there — against the Chargers, Ravens or Patriots."Despite what Goldberg says, it's the NFL Playoffs, and like any other playoff in the world of professional sports, any team can win the championship! The Giants and Chiefs may have been lucky to get in, but nobody can count them out yet! Here are some predictions and explanations:Kansas City Chiefs (9-7) at Indianapolis Colts (12-4)Saturday at 4:30 p.m. EST on NBC-The Chiefs are being considered one of those teams lucky to get in. Give them credit, they won when they needed to. H Read more:Schedule

NY Giants Are Almost There... 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Thanks to Tiki Barbar, with assistance from the rest of the New York Giants
, the team is within inches of the playoffs! In his last regular season game, Barbar had a record performance. He carried 23 times for 234 yards and three touchdowns in the 34-28 win over the Washington Redskins.Green Bay basically needs a miracle to make the playoffs now. Not only do they have to beat the Chicago Bears, but Detroit, Miami, Minnesota and San Francisco all have to win and Carolina, Houston and Tampa Bay all must lose.Anything is possible, but that doesn't mean it's likely. Pat Riley Takes Leave Of Absence 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Things may be getting worse for the struggling Miami Heat. Pat Riley
has announced that he will be taking an indefinite leave of absence, appointing assistant coach Ron Rothstein to fill-in.Riley's leave is due to an ongoing hip and knee problem that has left him in continuous pain throughout the season. Riley is scheduled to have surgery this Friday to remove floating chips in his right knee. The surgery needed to repair his hip has not yet been scheduled.Riley didn't expect to need the surgery this season, but now told reporters, "I'm just tired of the pain and the medication."Miami currently has a record of 13-17. They have lost their last three games. For the AP article, click here. Read more:Leave
Nick Saban Headed For Alabama 1970-01-01 00:59:59 After Dolphins' Owner Wayne Huizenga gave coach Nick Saban
a deadline to decide whether or not he is going to coach the team next year, the truth is finally out. Saban will be coaching Alabama
next season. Huizenga said he was informed of the decision in a meeting Wednesday at Saban's house, and the announcement came in a press conference that Saban didn't attend. It's not like the Dolphins are losing a great coach (in my opinion.) Though he was a hot-shot in college, he is only 15-17 with the Dolphins.According to the AP article, possible candidates to replace Saban include:Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Ron RiveraFormer Green Bay head coach Mike ShermanSan Diego Chargers offensive coordinator Cam CameronIndianapolis assistant Jim CaldwellTennessee Titans offensive coordinator Norm ChowPittsburgh Steelers assistants Russ Grimm and Ken Whisenhut.Huizenga still hasn't ruled out the hiring of another college coach, but nothing is decided yet. Diamondbacks have apparently come to an agreement and it looks like RandyJohnson

The Yankees would also only have to pay $2 million of Johnson's $16 million contract. The deal has to be finalized Sunday by 5 p.m. EST. NFL Week 17 Predictions 1970-01-01 00:59:59 The final week of the NFL season is finally among us! It's difficult to predict this week because some teams will be playing at full-strength, and other teams playing only because they have to. Nobody will know for sure until game time. Also, I will be posting predictions throughout the playoffs. With that said, here are the Week 17 predictions:New York Giants over Washington (Saturday Night)San Diego over ArizonaBaltimore over BuffaloKansas City over JacksonvilleDallas over DetroitPhiladelphia over AtlantaDenver over San FranciscoNew York Jets over OaklandChicago over Green BayIndianapolis over MiamiNew Orleans over CarolinaCincinnati over PittsburghSeattle over Tampa BaySt. Louis over MinnesotaNew England over TennesseeHouston over ClevelandIf you could only watch one game this week, I would strongly suggest Denver verses San Francisco. Comcast Sports - Bias In Broadcasting 1970-01-01 00:59:59 I've never seen a television station more bias than the ComcastSports
Network. Don't get me wrong, I think it's great that a local network can be so devoted the area sports teams. But to what extent can it be considered going too far?For those of you that don't know, bias is defined by the North American English Encarta Dictionary as an unfair preference for or dislike of something. The unfair preference is the favoritism of Philadelphia sports teams; the dislike is everything else. What brings on this rant? Right now, I am watching the Philadelphia Flyers hockey game against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Philly is winning the game, 4-2, with about nine minutes left in the game (assuming there is no overtime.) A player on Tampa landed on top of a player from Philly and no penalty was called. For the next forty-five seconds after the incident, the game announcers continued on about how it should have been a penalty; in reality, it really wasn't.Two players lost their footing. NFL Week 16 Predictions 1970-01-01 00:59:59 The end is drawing near and some temas still have something worth playing for! With that in mind, here are my week 16 predictions:Indianapolis over HoustonChicago over DetroitNew England over JacksonvilleBaltimore over PittsburghSan Diego over SeattleDallas over Philadelphia (Monday - X-Mas)Kansas City over Oakland (Saturday)Atlanta over CarolinaCincinnati over DenverSt. Louis over WashingtonSan Francisco over ArizonaTennessee over BuffaloNew Orleans over New York GiantsMinnesota over Green Bay (Thursday)Cleveland over Tampa BayNew York Jets over Miami (Monday - X-Mas)The only game this week that has me on edge is Tampa Bay verses Cleveland. All together I believe Cleveland will win, but who knows what Tampa is going to try!Like many teams, Tampa is having tons of quarterback woes. This week, Tampa will start the next back-up quarterback on the team, Tim Rattay. Rattay played late in the game last week and was able to salvage what Bruce Gradkowski and company managed to screw up, ne Read more:Predictions
Allen Iverson Debuts In Denver 1970-01-01 00:59:59 The weather in Denver
finally calmed enough to allow AllenIverson
to finally make his Denver Nuggets debut. Iverson was welcomed by an arena full of cheers.Though Iverson didn't start the game, he managed to accomplish 22-points and 10-assists in 39-minutes. However, the Nuggets lost to the Sacramento Kings, 101-96.Before the game, Iverson was suffering from jet lag and car sickness."I'm glad it's over," Iverson said. "That's the only thing I thought about, just getting the first one by me. I wish it could've ended with a win. I felt it could've ended with a win."There's no questioning the way he played last night. Not only did he play good, he looked happy. Bob Knight Ties The Record 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Does anyone other than me find it strange that we celebrate tying a record just as much (and sometimes more) than breaking one?Texas Tech coach Bob Knight
tied Dean Smith with 879 wins. The victory came as Tech defeated Bucknell, 72-60."Winning does miraculous things," Knight told reporters. "It's an elixir beyond belief."There's no questioning now that Knight will be the all-time wins leader for Division I basketball.Knight also told reporters, "I hope those kids that played [for me] at Army back in '65, I hope some of them watched the game today and can look at themselves or their grandchildren and can say, 'I was there when that son of a bitch started.'" NBA Referees Criticized In Detroit 1970-01-01 00:59:59 NBA officials are upset today after being publicly criticized by both the Detroit
Pistons and New Jersey Nets over a game of extremely poor officiating. In return, Nets star Jason Kidd will likely receive a fine for commenting against the refs after the game."We come to work, and we work extremely hard at this, only for the officials to screw us," Kidd told reporters. "We fought, but that doesn't mean anything when you have the officials take over the game like that. You go with the Three Blind Mice, and it's just sad that Tom (Washington) screwed up that game for us."Nets coach Lawrence Frank, who may also receive a fine, had to be restrained from approaching a ref and led off the floor by an assistant coach after the game. Both teams, especially Detroit, were very upset with the officiating. But in the end, it was the Nets that felt the wrath of the refs after they failed to call a game-deciding foul."It's obviously a foul," Frank told reporters. "But that's how the game works. Allen Iverson Fined $25,000 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Allen Iverson
was thrown out of the game on Tuesday against the Philadelphia 76ers. Now, the NBA has decided to fine him $25,000 for his comments against referee Steve Javie.According to Iverson, there has been something personal going on between the two since Iverson entered the league."I thought I got fouled on that play, and I said I thought that he was calling the game personal, and he threw me out," Iverson told reporters. "His fuse is real short anyway, and I should have known that I couldn't say anything anyway. It's been something personal with me and him since I got in the league. This was just the perfect game for him to try and make me look bad."This situation adds to the list of examples why NBA referees have too much power in the league. When is the NBA going to start looking into the accusations instead of consistently penalizing players for possibly speaking the truth? Then again, when will they call traveling again? NFL Conference Championship Predictions 1970-01-01 00:59:59 This may be the most difficult out of all the weeks to predict. In a previous post I expressed how I don't want to see New England in another Super Bowl. Sadly, it is still possible. My prayers of the entire team coming down with a sudden case of the flu weren't answered. I guess things will have to be done the old fashioned way. Below are my predictions:NFC Championship Game:New Orleans Saints (11-6) at Chicago Bears (14-3)Sunday at 3:00 p.m. EST on FOX.This is a tough game to predict. I think the outcome of this game will depend on how well Rex Grossman plays. If he is consistant with his short passes, the Bears should march right down the field. Though the game will not be a blow out, I think that it is a lock.Predicted Winner: Chicago BearsAFC Championship GameNew England Patriots (14-4) at Indianapolis Colts (14-4)Sunday at 6:00 p.m. EST on CBSI don't think I need to type a paragraph on this prediction, but I will. I think that New England is going to pass 75% of the t Read more:Predictions
Super Bowl XLI - Indi VS Da Bears 1970-01-01 00:59:59 The Chicago Bears
defeated the fumble-prone New Orleans Saints, 39-14. This is certainly a day for any Bears fan, especially one who was lucky enough to be at the game. The Chicago defense, as expected, stepped up and caused a number of fumbles that could be blamed for the New Orleans defeat. On the other side of the NFL, the Indianapolis Colts defeated the New England Patriots after an awesome comeback! The Colts were down by 18 points, but still managed to pull off a win of 38-34. Tom Brady's interception in the final Patriot drive ended the game.My predictions were correct! However, predicting the Super
Bowl winner will be more difficult. Last years was a horrible game - Pittsburgh verses Seattle. From phantom touchdowns to phantom penalties, the game was horrible in every aspect (including the half-time show.)Here are some things to think about when predicting the winner of Super Bowl

Cowboys: Parcels Out - Steelers: Tomlin In 1970-01-01 00:59:59 In an announcement that some found shocking and others found expected, Bill Parcels has retired."I am in good health and feel lucky to have been able to coach in the NFL for an extended period of time," Parcells told reporters. "I leave the game and the NFL with nothing but good feelings and gratitude to all the players, coaches and other people that have assisted me in that regard."Parcels had 1-year left on his contract worth more than $5 million. His record in Dallas was 34-32, including an 0-2 postseason record.Despite the loss of Parcels, Pittsburgh, on the other hand, is celebrating the signing of their new head coach, Mike Tomlin. His contract, at the time, looks to be for 4-years at $2.5 million a year. However, I am sickened with the type of media this is attracting.Tomlin was just announced a head coach of an NFL team. That right there should be enough to promote greatness. However, it seems as though the media is lowering his reputation by commenting on his skin color. The fa Read more:Steelers

Knicks' Crawford Has 52 Points Against Heat 1970-01-01 00:59:59 The New York Knicks

scoring 52 points and making 16 consecutive shots from the field.Crawford finished with an awesome 20/30 from the field and 8/10 on 3-pointers. The Knicks total shooting percentage for the game was 53.6.For the news article, click here.Additional Notes:Crawford also had 3 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals.Miami Heat's Dwyane Wade had 37 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists and 1 steal. Martin Straka Signs Contract Extension 1970-01-01 00:59:59 New York Rangers' forward Martin
Straka signed a 1-year contract extension today for $3.3 million. He's stayin' for at least one more season!"I love it here. But it can happen fast. I like to go year by year," Straka told reporters earlier this month. "Then you try to push yourself a little bit more. I guess maybe, if you sign for two years, you're going to say, 'Oh, I've got one more year, I don't have to play as well this year.'"This season, Straka has 24 goals in 47 games. His career best in a single-season is 35 goals. He will likely break that record this season.Straka has 859 NHL games with the New York Rangers, Pittsburgh, Ottawa, the New York Islanders, Florida, and Los Angeles.Though Straka likes to sign his contracts on a yearly basis, experts (and fans) think he will be around for at least a few more seasons. For a news article on his contract extension, click here. For Straka's career stats, click here. Not Another New England Super Bowl 1970-01-01 00:59:59 I am still in disbelief that New England
is in yet another AFC Conference Championship. I am just as sick of the Patriots now as I was the Dallas Cowboys throughout the 90's.San Diego was the favored team at the beginning of the playoffs to win the Super
Bowl. I can't lie - I was cheering for them against New England
, but that's mostly because of my dislike of New England and my enjoyment of watching LaDainian Tomlinson. As an AFC team, I have always enjoyed watching the Chargers play and usually favor them against others.Hopefully, Indianapolis can pull off the win this week, for their sake and mine! The Colts played horribly against Baltimore. Nevertheless, it should be a great rivalry game! But, for the record, the last thing I want to see is New England in another Super Bowl
!I'll have my predictions for the Conference Championships posted by Thursday. However, at this point, I think my predictions are obvious.

NFL Divisional Playoff Schedule & Predictions 1970-01-01 00:59:59 This Saturday & Sunday will be the NFL Divisional Playoffs. Below is the schedule and my predictions:Indianapolis Colts (13-4) at Baltimore Ravens (13-3)Saturday at 4:30 p.m. EST on CBSIndianapolis made a lot of mistakes during their game last week against Kansas City. They were similar to the mistakes they made towards the end of the regular season. However, their defense did a great job stopping the run, which was what Kansas was counting on in their game plan. This week will be different. I don't think Indi has any more tricks up their sleeves. Though the Baltimore Ravens may have a challenge in front of them, they have had two weeks to prepare for this game and now know what Indi is and is not capable of.Predicted Winner: Baltimore RavensPhiladelphia Eagles (11-6) at New Orleans Saints (10-6)Saturday at 8:00 p.m. EST on FOX.I still can't believe the Eagles are in this game. Martin Brodeur To Play 9th NHL All-Star Game 1970-01-01 00:59:59 New Jersey Devils goalie Martin
Brodeur is going to participate in his ninth NHL All-Star game. Brodeur is enjoying his 14th season in the NHL with 26 victories, 7 of them shutouts.Without Brodeur, the New Jersey Devils would be in trouble. Don't get me wrong, they have an awesome team. However, Brodeur has made saves that were simply outstanding. Rangers Defeat Flyers, 2-1 1970-01-01 00:59:59 The Good News: The New York Rangers
defeated the Philadelphia Flyers
, 2-1. Plus, the game was on television in my area so I was lucky enough to watch all three periods! The Bad News: The game was televised on the dreaded Comcast Sports Network, the very network I wrote about back in December for being completely bias in their broadcasting.Though Comcast was as bias with this broadcast as they are with all their broadcasts, it didn't matter in the end. The score of 2-1 was thanks to goals by Jaromir Jagr and Jason Krog. Goalie Henrik Lundgvist also contributed with 17 saves.Jason Krog's tie-breaking goal was his second of the season, but his first as a New York Ranger. This was also just his fourth game playing as a Ranger.Though I'm so happy that the Rangers won, and I despise the Flyers, I must give credit where credit is due. Flyers' goalie Robert Esche made 33 saves. This was his first game starting since January 9th.The Rangers next game will be in Boston on Jan. 29th at 7 pm ES
Colorado VS Detroit - An Awesome Game 1970-01-01 00:59:59 I'm declaring the Red Wings-Avalanche game yesterday the Game of the Week. I'll admit, I didn't get to watch many games, but this was without question the most exciting that I saw.By reading the article, you may think that Detroit
dominated the entire game. In some ways, you are correct. However, it was not an active scoring contest until late in the third period. The first period was scoreless. Pavel Datsyuk scored the first goal of the game at 9:44 into the second period, putting Detroit ahead 1-0. He smoothly skated across the slot until Colorado
goalie Jose Theodore couldn't expand anymore.Colorado only had 12 shots on goal. Detroit, on the other hand, had 41! You have to give credit where credit is due. Theodore did a great job making some incredible saves throughout the entire game.I believe it's because of Theodore that the game was as exciting as it was. Every time it looked like Detroit was going to score, Theodore came out of nowhere with a save. However, it
Rangers Defeat Bruins, 6-1 1970-01-01 00:59:59 The New York Rangers
defeated the Boston Bruins
Monday night in Boston, 6-1.In a crushing loss, Boston used both goalies, who equally sucked. Hannu Toivonen made 11 saves on 14 shots, and Tim Thomas made 12 saves on 15 shots. At the other end of the ice, Rangers' goalie Henrik Lundgvist made 29 saves on 30 shots, picking up his 21st win of the season. The Rangers are currently tied for second place in the Atlantic Division with the Pittsburgh Penguins at 54 points. Overall, the Rangers are in eighth place in the Eastern Conference. For the article on the game, click here.Additional Notes:Rangers Left Wing Brandan Shanahan scored his 25th goal of the season. He scored on a Penalty Shot in the third period. The Rangers scored two short-handed goals out of four chances. One was Shanahan's penalty shot.
Yankees To Host 2008 All-Star Game 1970-01-01 00:59:59 2008 will be the last season for Yankee Stadium, and tbe MLB is saying good-bye in style! The New York Yankees
will host the 2008 All-Star Game."When you think of Yankee Stadium, it is, in my opinion, the most famous cathedral in all of sports," said Commissioner Bud Selig. "You think of all the great Yankee teams to play there, the prize fights, the great football games. It's a fitting way to honor the last year of its existence."The game will take place on Tuesday, July 15, 2008. Festivities will begin the Sunday before. There is no word on what the price of tickets will be. I'm predicting that I'll have to pay out-the-ass just to sit in the cheap seats. For a very good article on this, click here.
Super Bowl XLI Prediction 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Super Bowl XLISunday, Feb. 4th6:25 pm EST on CBSI've put it off long enough, and now I must make my predictions. This is the toughest game of the year to predict; Not because it's the Super Bowl, but because of the teams in it.Indianapolis has the stronger offense, but Chicago has the stronger defense. Once again, this game will solely depend on the quarterbacks. Peyton Manning and Rex Grossman are both capable of playing great and horrible. So who will make fewer mistakes?I can't help it… I think that Chicago has the better chance because of their defense. They almost always have great field position and always come through late in the game.SO - My long awaited prediction for the Super Bowl is in favor of Chicago… but don't count out Indianapolis. These are two great teams and anything can happen! I think the game will be very close, but I've said it; I believe Chicago will come out on top. Read more:Super

Jimmie Johnson To Defend NASCAR Title 1970-01-01 00:59:59 The 2007 NASCAR
season begins in less than two weeks. The winner last year, JimmieJohnson
, is competiting for his second Cup title. Nobody has won back-to-back titles since Jeff Gordon in 1997-98. And, if NASCAR drivers have it their way, he won't win his second!"It's hard to win one, much less back to back, and to do anything twice in a row is tough," said Tony Stewart, who missed last years chase.Back in November, I made a prediction that this years Cup winner will either be Kevin Harvick or Matt Kenseth. However, I wouldn't be upset if Johnson wins another.I'll make my predictions for the Chase once we get into the 2007 season. For a recent AP article on Johnson, click here. Read more:Title
