Dave Goldberg, an AP Sports Writer that I always enjoy reading, wrote a column titled "Anyone can win this year in the NFL," but writes in only the third paragraph, "OK, realistically, drop the plummeting Giants and Cowboys and probably the Chiefs, who were a bit lucky to get in."Though I don't think the Eagles will be going all the way this year, Goldberg ends his article by writing, "So let's send Philly to Miami. The Eagles are on their own once they get there — against the Chargers, Ravens or Patriots."Despite what Goldberg says, it's the NFL Playoffs, and like any other playoff in the world of professional sports, any team can win the championship! NY Giants Are Almost There...

Thanks to Tiki Barbar, with assistance from the rest of the New York Giants , the team is within inches of the playoffs! In his last regular season game, Barbar had a record performance. He carried 23 times for 234 yards and three touchdowns in the 34-28 win over the Washington Redskins.Green Bay basically needs a miracle to make the playoffs now. Not only do they have to beat the Chicago Bears, but Detroit, Miami, Minnesota and San Francisco all have to win and Carolina, Houston and Tampa Bay all must lose.Anything is possible, but that doesn't mean it's likely. Pat Riley Takes Leave Of Absence

Things may be getting worse for the struggling Miami Heat. Pat Riley has announced that he will be taking an indefinite leave of absence, appointing assistant coach Ron Rothstein to fill-in.Riley's leave is due to an ongoing hip and knee problem that has left him in continuous pain throughout the season. Riley is scheduled to have surgery this Friday to remove floating chips in his right knee. The surgery needed to repair his hip has not yet been scheduled.Riley didn't expect to need the surgery this season, but now told reporters, "I'm just tired of the pain and the medication."Miami currently has a record of 13-17. Nick Saban Headed For Alabama

After Dolphins' Owner Wayne Huizenga gave coach Nick Saban a deadline to decide whether or not he is going to coach the team next year, the truth is finally out. Saban will be coaching Alabama next season. Huizenga said he was informed of the decision in a meeting Wednesday at Saban's house, and the announcement came in a press conference that Saban didn't attend.It's not like the Dolphins are losing a great coach (in my opinion.) Randy Johnson Traded Back To Arizona

The New York Yankees and Arizona Diamondbacks have apparently come to an agreement and it looks like Randy Johnson is heading back to Arizona.Though nothing is finalized yet, it looks like the Yankees will receive relief pitcher Luis Vizcaino and minor league right-handers Ross Ohlendorf and Steven Jackson, and shortstop Alberto Gonzalez, a baseball official said, speaking on condition of anonymity, according to the AP article. The Yankees would also only have to pay $2 million of Johnson's $16 million contract.The deal has to be finalized Sunday by 5 p.m. EST. Talks will begin tomorrow, according to Alan Nero, one of Johnson's representatives.As of now, it looks as though the Yankees' starting rotation will include Chien-Ming Wang, Mike Mussina, Andy Pettitte and Kei Igawa.Roger Clemens has not announced whether or not he wishes to return to the Yankees once again. Comcast Sports - Bias In Broadcasting

I've never seen a television station more bias than the Comcast Sports Network. Don't get me wrong, I think it's great that a local network can be so devoted the area sports teams. But to what extent can it be considered going too far?For those of you that don't know, bias is defined by the North American English Encarta Dictionary as an unfair preference for or dislike of something. The unfair preference is the favoritism of Philadelphia sports teams; the dislike is everything else. What brings on this rant? Right now, I am watching the Philadelphia Flyers hockey game against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Philly is winning the game, 4-2, with about nine minutes left in the game (assuming there is no overtime.) A player on Tampa landed on top of a player from Philly and no penalty was called. For the next forty-five seconds after the incident, the game announcers continued on about how it should have been a penalty; in reality, it really wasn't.Two players lost their footing.

The weather in Denver finally calmed enough to allow Allen Iverson to finally make his Denver Nuggets debut. Iverson was welcomed by an arena full of cheers.Though Iverson didn't start the game, he managed to accomplish 22-points and 10-assists in 39-minutes. However, the Nuggets lost to the Sacramento Kings, 101-96.Before the game, Iverson was suffering from jet lag and car sickness."I'm glad it's over," Iverson said. "That's the only thing I thought about, just getting the first one by me. I wish it could've ended with a win. Does anyone other than me find it strange that we celebrate tying a record just as much (and sometimes more) than breaking one?Texas Tech coach Bob Knight tied Dean Smith with 879 wins. NBA officials are upset today after being publicly criticized by both the Detroit Pistons and New Jersey Nets over a game of extremely poor officiating. In return, Nets star Jason Kidd will likely receive a fine for commenting against the refs after the game."We come to work, and we work extremely hard at this, only for the officials to screw us," Kidd told reporters. "We fought, but that doesn't mean anything when you have the officials take over the game like that. You go with the Three Blind Mice, and it's just sad that Tom (Washington) screwed up that game for us."Nets coach Lawrence Frank, who may also receive a fine, had to be restrained from approaching a ref and led off the floor by an assistant coach after the game.Both teams, especially Detroit, were very upset with the officiating. Allen Iverson Fined $25,000

Allen Iverson was thrown out of the game on Tuesday against the Philadelphia 76ers. Now, the NBA has decided to fine him $25,000 for his comments against referee Steve Javie.According to Iverson, there has been something personal going on between the two since Iverson entered the league."I thought I got fouled on that play, and I said I thought that he was calling the game personal, and he threw me out," Iverson told reporters. "His fuse is real short anyway, and I should have known that I couldn't say anything anyway. It's been something personal with me and him since I got in the league. This was just the perfect game for him to try and make me look bad."This situation adds to the list of examples why NBA referees have too much power in the league. When is the NBA going to start looking into the accusations instead of consistently penalizing players for possibly speaking the truth?Then again, when will they call traveling again? New Jersey Devils Name New Arena

New Jersey Devils' owner Jeff Vanderbeek announced Friday that the new arena currently being built in downtown Newark, N.J. will be called The Prudential Center.Vanderbeek would not announce the amount Prudential payed for the naming rights, but previously announced it would be about $5 million annually for 20 years, according to the AP article."It's an awesome deal for both parties," Vanderbeek told reporters. NFL Conference Championship Predictions

This may be the most difficult out of all the weeks to predict. In a previous post I expressed how I don't want to see New England in another Super Bowl. Sadly, it is still possible. My prayers of the entire team coming down with a sudden case of the flu weren't answered. I guess things will have to be done the old fashioned way. Below are my predictions:NFC Championship Game:New Orleans Saints (11-6) at Chicago Bears (14-3)Sunday at 3:00 p.m. EST on FOX.This is a tough game to predict. I think the outcome of this game will depend on how well Rex Grossman plays. If he is consistant with his short passes, the Bears should march right down the field. Super Bowl XLI - Indi VS Da Bears

The Chicago Bears defeated the fumble-prone New Orleans Saints, 39-14. This is certainly a day for any Bears fan, especially one who was lucky enough to be at the game. The Chicago defense, as expected, stepped up and caused a number of fumbles that could be blamed for the New Orleans defeat.On the other side of the NFL, the Indianapolis Colts defeated the New England Patriots after an awesome comeback! The Colts were down by 18 points, but still managed to pull off a win of 38-34. Tom Brady's interception in the final Patriot drive ended the game.My predictions were correct! Knicks' Crawford Has 52 Points Against Heat

The New York Knicks defeated the Miami Heat, 116-96. Usually, when the Knicks win a game, that is the entire highlight. However, the highlight for this game was Jamal Crawford scoring 52 points and making 16 consecutive shots from the field.Crawford finished with an awesome 20/30 from the field and 8/10 on 3-pointers. Martin Straka Signs Contract Extension

New York Rangers' forward Martin Straka signed a 1-year contract extension today for $3.3 million. He's stayin' for at least one more season!"I love it here. But it can happen fast. I like to go year by year," Straka told reporters earlier this month. "Then you try to push yourself a little bit more. I guess maybe, if you sign for two years, you're going to say, 'Oh, I've got one more year, I don't have to play as well this year.'"This season, Straka has 24 goals in 47 games. His career best in a single-season is 35 goals. Not Another New England Super Bowl

I am still in disbelief that New England is in yet another AFC Conference Championship. I am just as sick of the Patriots now as I was the Dallas Cowboys throughout the 90's.San Diego was the favored team at the beginning of the playoffs to win the Super Bowl. I can't lie - I was cheering for them against New England , but that's mostly because of my dislike of New England and my enjoyment of watching LaDainian Tomlinson. As an AFC team, I have always enjoyed watching the Chargers play and usually favor them against others.Hopefully, Indianapolis can pull off the win this week, for their sake and mine! The Colts played horribly against Baltimore. Nevertheless, it should be a great rivalry game! But, for the record, the last thing I want to see is New England in another Super Bowl !I'll have my predictions for the Conference Championships posted by Thursday. However, at this point, I think my predictions are obvious.


Bobby Hamilton Dies Of Cancer

Former NASCAR Driver Bobby Hamilton died of cancer Sunday at the age of 49. Back in February, Hamilton was diagnosed with head and neck cancer. Below is the schedule and my predictions:Indianapolis Colts (13-4) at Baltimore Ravens (13-3)Saturday at 4:30 p.m. EST on CBSIndianapolis made a lot of mistakes during their game last week against Kansas City. They were similar to the mistakes they made towards the end of the regular season. However, their defense did a great job stopping the run, which was what Kansas was counting on in their game plan. This week will be different. I don't think Indi has any more tricks up their sleeves. He needed just 3.8% more to be inducted!Goose is very close to induction. Nobody has been this close to induction without eventually getting in. Rangers Defeat Flyers, 2-1

The Good News: The New York Rangers defeated the Philadelphia Flyers , 2-1. Plus, the game was on television in my area so I was lucky enough to watch all three periods!The Bad News: The game was televised on the dreaded Comcast Sports Network, the very network I wrote about back in December for being completely bias in their broadcasting.Though Comcast was as bias with this broadcast as they are with all their broadcasts, it didn't matter in the end. The score of 2-1 was thanks to goals by Jaromir Jagr and Jason Krog. Goalie Henrik Lundgvist also contributed with 17 saves.Jason Krog's tie-breaking goal was his second of the season, but his first as a New York Ranger. This was also just his fourth game playing as a Ranger.Though I'm so happy that the Rangers won, and I despise the Flyers, I must give credit where credit is due. Flyers' goalie Robert Esche made 33 saves. This was his first game starting since January 9th.The Rangers next game will be in Boston on Jan. 29th at 7 pm ES


Colorado VS Detroit - An Awesome Game

I'm declaring the Red Wings-Avalanche game yesterday the Game of the Week. I'll admit, I didn't get to watch many games, but this was without question the most exciting that I saw.By reading the article, you may think that Detroit dominated the entire game. In some ways, you are correct. However, it was not an active scoring contest until late in the third period.The first period was scoreless. Pavel Datsyuk scored the first goal of the game at 9:44 into the second period, putting Detroit ahead 1-0. He smoothly skated across the slot until Colorado goalie Jose Theodore couldn't expand anymore.Colorado only had 12 shots on goal. Detroit, on the other hand, had 41! You have to give credit where credit is due. Theodore did a great job making some incredible saves throughout the entire game.I believe it's because of Theodore that the game was as exciting as it was. Every time it looked like Detroit was going to score, Theodore came out of nowhere with a save. However, it


Rangers Defeat Bruins, 6-1

The New York Rangers defeated the Boston Bruins Monday night in Boston, 6-1.In a crushing loss, Boston used both goalies, who equally sucked. Hannu Toivonen made 11 saves on 14 shots, and Tim Thomas made 12 saves on 15 shots.At the other end of the ice, Rangers' goalie Henrik Lundgvist made 29 saves on 30 shots, picking up his 21st win of the season.The Rangers are currently tied for second place in the Atlantic Division with the Pittsburgh Penguins at 54 points. The New York Yankees will host the 2008 All-Star Game."When you think of Yankee Stadium, it is, in my opinion, the most famous cathedral in all of sports," said Commissioner Bud Selig. "You think of all the great Yankee teams to play there, the prize fights, the great football games. It's a fitting way to honor the last year of its existence."The game will take place on Tuesday, July 15, 2008. Super Bowl XLISunday, Feb. 4th6:25 pm EST on CBSI've put it off long enough, and now I must make my predictions.This is the toughest game of the year to predict; Not because it's the Super Bowl, but because of the teams in it.Indianapolis has the stronger offense, but Chicago has the stronger defense. Once again, this game will solely depend on the quarterbacks. Peyton Manning and Rex Grossman are both capable of playing great and horrible. So who will make fewer mistakes?I can't help it… I think that Chicago has the better chance because of their defense. The 2007 NASCAR season begins in less than two weeks. The winner last year, Jimmie Johnson , is competiting for his second Cup title. Nobody has won back-to-back titles since Jeff Gordon in 1997-98. And, if NASCAR drivers have it their way, he won't win his second!"It's hard to win one, much less back to back, and to do anything twice in a row is tough," said Tony Stewart, who missed last years chase.Back in November, I made a prediction that this years Cup winner will either be Kevin Harvick or Matt Kenseth.
