Calton Hill

Calton Hill is a peaceful place in Edinburgh and give you a beautiful view on the city. It has a few monuments on it. One of them is the National Monument, this is the unfinished acropolis you see on the 3rd photo. The photos below show you the view from the hill on Edinburgh.


The Scott Monument

The Scott Monument is dedicated to Sir Walter Scott, a Scottish writer. It's over 61 metres tall and stands on Princes Street. It has a viewing deck on the top that can be reached by a total of 287 steps. The fairground that you see close to the monument is there for the festive season, a nice extra when visiting Edinburgh around Christmas.


Britannia

The Royal Yacht Britannia was the home of the Royal Family while being on the sea. It retired in December 1997 and now lays in the harbor of Edinburgh open for visitors. The entrance to the yacht is via a shopping centre next to it.


Edinburgh Castle

This castle you can find on Edinburgh rock in the centre of the city. A visit to this castle can take up to 3 hours, but it's well worth it. From the rock you can also have a great view on the city. The big cannon that you see on the second photo is called Mons Meg. It weighs 6 ton and last saw action in 1681.

Arc de Triomphe

The Arc de Triomphe stands at the end of the Champs-Élysees. It is 51 metres high, 45 metres wide and is the second largest one in the world.


Place de la Concorde

The Place de la Concorde is a the largest square in Paris, it is situated between the Champs-Élysées and the Tuileries Gardens. On the square are two colorful fountains and the 3300 year old Obelisk of Luxor. From this square you can see the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe.

Notre Dame

The Notre Dame is a beautiful Gothic cathedral in the centre of Paris. It took 182 years to build it and give place to 9000 people. The building has beautiful stained glass and gargoyles on the walls wich give it a special look. There's a metro stop at the Ile-de-la-Cite wich will bring you very close to the cathedal.

The Castle of Versailles

This famous castle in Versailles was designed by the Sun King Louis XIV. Inside the castle you can see the most beautiful decoration you can imagine. In the back you can admire the garden that took about 20 years to complete. Versailles is easy to reach from Paris by train, the journey can take up to 40-50 minutes.

Sacre-Coeur

This Basilique du Sacre -Coeur is located on the highest point of Paris, the butte Montmartre. Inside this Basilica you can see the beautiful painted dome. You can also go in the Dome and have a great view on the city.


Moulin Rouge

The nightlife in Paris is ok, there are many places to have a drink. But it can be expensive... If you want something more you can always have a look in this place. I heard they have got some great shows. You can find them in the Montmartre district.

The Louvre

The Louvre, home of the Mona Lisa, Venus de Milo and many other masterpieces. It really is a great museum where you can find everything. It is divided into 3 parts, to much for just one visit. So you could use 1 day for every part of the museum. Don't leave Paris without having a look in here!


Eiffel Tower

The Eiffel Tower is one of the most famous monuments in the world. There are 3 levels where you can have a look at the centre of Paris. The first 2 levels you can reach by stairs, or elevator if you prefer. And for the last one to the top you have to buy an extra ticket for the elevator. But it's worth it for the view you get there.

Christ Church Cathedral

The Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, commonly known as Christ Church Cathedral. Most of the structure dates from 1871 to 1878 when a huge restoration was undertaken. You can find it in the oldest part of Dublin.


Phoenix Park

The Phoenix Park is the largest urban enclosed park in Europe. Here you can find Dublin Zoo, one of the oldest in the world. The park is a very nice place for a walk or for some sporting activities.On the photo you can see Wellington Monument, the tallest obelisk in Europe. It was build to commemorate the victories of the Duke of Wellington.


O'Connell Street

O'Connel Street is the main street in Dublin. For the best shopping have a look in Parnell Street or Grafton Street. Parnell Street you can find off the main street, Grafton street is a 10min walk from O'Connel Street. But keep in mind that Dublin can be expensive.


St James's Gate in Dublin

The St James 's Gate in Dublin is the home of Ireland's most famous beer Guinness. The brewery was founded in 1759 by Arthur Guinness. Learn more about the history of Guinness or how it's made and visit the Guinness Storehouse. This is located in the heart of St James's brewery.


The Rock of Cashel

High on a hill in Cashel you can see these ruin of the cathedral, the Round Tower and Cormac's chapel. One of Ireland's best tourist attractions. Not so far from the Rock of Cashel(5 to 10 minutes walk) you can see the ruins of Hore Abbey(photos below).


Dungarvan

Dungarvan is a small seaside town on the south coast of Ireland. There is a beach if you would feel like a swim or you can have a look at the small cliffs not so far from the beach.


Mitchelstown Caves

The Mitchelstown Caves deserve a visit, you can see some great stalagmites and stalactites here. The tour in the caves is not that long but it's a nice experience to have a look in there. You can find the caves off the Cahir-Mitchelstown road


Kilkenny Castle

Because of a big renovation most things are new in Kilkenny Castle . But it's still one of the better castles i've seen in Ireland. The big hall that you see at the end of the tour is the most beautiful part of this castle.


Holy Cross

Here you can see the Holy Cross Hill in Clonmel. It's a very peaceful place and very nice for a walk. If you're there at the right moment it can be full of colourful flowers. The walk up the hill is very steep but it's worth the view.


Atlantic Ocean

Palace of Holyroodhouse

The Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh is the Queen's official residence in Scotland. It was founded in 1128 as a monastery. It stands at the end of the Royal Mile and is open for visitors.

Pomeranian Dukes' Castle

This castle in Szczecin was destroyed in World War II and rebuilt after. Now it became the seat of administrative and cultural institutions. Some parts are open for visitors and from the Bell Tower (last photo) you can enjoy the view on the city. From the many benches on the bailey you can rest and have a look at the Clock Tower (first photo) dating back to the 16th century.

Old Town Hall

The Old Town Hall was build in the 13th century and reconstructed in the 15th century with Gothic elements. Today you can find in here a popular restaurant and the city museum.
