I stumbled upon Tumblr not to long ago. At first, I dismissed it as yet another online blog software. However, looking closer, it has many subtle differences. The analogy that they give is perfect, “if blogs are journals, Tumblelogs are scrapbooks”. Tumblr is not meant to be a blog (or to replace it) but an unorganized compilation of quick short messages, links, photos, quotes, dialogues used to share author’s creations, discoveries or experiences without any commentary. It is meant to be simple way to quickly publish things you run across in the web or in your daily life. Created by a web development company in New York called Davidville (also the creators of Senduit), I see Tumblr as something you would use before you write a post on a blog - a creative scrapbooks with links, photos and RSS. It has been reported today that Wikipedia ’s cloak of anonymity will soon be put to an end with the free Internet encyclopedia planning to ask contributors who claim certain credentials to identify themselves. It’s about time Wikipedia does something like that. They should have done it a long time ago as that may have minimized the controversies and the slandering practices we have seen lately. Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales said in interviews by phone and instant message Wednesday from Japan that contributors still would be able to remain anonymous.
