snack, snack, snack 2008-04-09 04:27:00 Being a research student, I can't escape from the piles of never-ending journals and academic-related books. So does my sis! She has assignments and tests to prepare. However, studying with sis has a tremendous side-effect ~ snacking! Coffee, biscuits, chips... probably it's a way to de-stress and keep one energizes. Gosh, I can't recall myself being hungry this week!Frankly, I don't have the habit to snack. That's probably because I'm stuck in the lab most of the time, where food and drink are not allowed. Late at night, I'm simply too lazy re-brush my teeth again. So I don't snack. I merely get myself to bed if my stomach is growling. With growing concerns for diet and weight control, the habit of snack has always been an issue, since junk foods normally have high calories. And mo
Change of PM? 2008-04-10 20:08:00 As I was reading news from The Star Online a few minutes ago, something caught my eyes.(Click on the photo to zoom in, or simply follow this link)Found anything catchy?Since when our PM changes?? I don't even know!!I think the editor should proof read his/her material first before published. I do understand that careless mistake occurs at times, but measure should be taken to avoid unnecessary confusion. Read more:Change
a simple pork chop 2008-04-12 06:35:00 Representing...My first ever...home-made Roasted pork chop!!With the scarce ingredients that available at home, the pork shoulder was only marinated with oyster sauce and plenty of garlic, for about 6 hours. Grilled in the oven at approximately 210ºC for 15 minutes, flipped to another side and grilled for another 15 minutes. Taaadaaa ~ there goes my freshly made oriental roasted pork chop. :)Drooling?? My first attempt wasn't bad after all! ^_^
Chalking, another form of advertisement 2008-04-14 03:10:00 Nowadays, we stumble upon advertisement
s everywhere, ranging from the traditional newspaper, television, radio, billboard, to modern internet. While companies spent millions to publicize their products or services; non-profit student organizations relies upon free channels, such as distributing flyers, and sticking notices on the board, lamp post, glass, bus stop and basically all over the places! In New Zealand, we have...Chalking!This is another free and creative way to publicize events and looking for new recruits. All we need is a chalk!!See, my friends were scribbling happily on the street!
700 cars, must be a car freak! 2008-04-16 04:47:00 My jaw almost dropped as I read this. Some own 700 cars each.Individual owning 700 cars!! I assume he/she must be a car freak, or simply, a car collector. How on earth can that fella drives all of them and warm up the engines in 365 days? As far as I know, under-usage is not good for a car. Just like a under-used brain, tend to get "rusty".I can understand if it's merely a toy car collections. But real car?? In my opinion, buying real car for collectible purpose is a waste. Instead, the rich should channel the extra $$ to the under-privileges. Isn't that more meaningful?
Autumn wonderland 2008-04-18 23:31:00 I've been shivering in my room these few days. My room is as cold as ice-box. The Weather Channel Desktop showed "feel like 6ºC now". No matter how fairytale the white winter is, I still miss the warmth of the summer."Winter is an etching, spring a watercolor, summer an oil painting and autumn a mosaic of them all."- Stanley HorowitzDespite the chilling breeze, I headed to the university, hoping to capture some colourful snapshots after doing lab work. Soon, I'll be bidding farewell to the rainbow leaves. The trees are turning bald in another 2 weeks. The following 4 photos were taken from the Central Library, which is the highest building in Ilam.As you can see, Christchurch is flat.Cashmere is the only hill that out-stand the flatness."Autumn

blind does not mean colourless 2008-04-18 05:07:00 Some of you may have watched the clip in Facebook or YouTube before. I was truly touched by the little girl talent. The old phrase saying "God is fair". Although the girl was born visually impaired, but she has another amazing gift - to touch one's heart, and let the music heal one's soul. I believe, with proper education, love and nurture, she'll become a superb pianist one day.
my luggage is flooded 2008-04-22 05:36:00 Gosh, can't believe that my luggage is overloaded! I'm only going away for 5 days!! This is definitely the very rare occasion which I pack so heavily.Well, I'll be attending AIESEC NZ's Autumn Conference (previously known as New Zealand Motivational Seminar) on 24-28 April 2008. The conference will be held at the Waipuna Hotel and Conference Centre, Auckland. So, I'll be flying to Auckland by Pacific Blue tomorrow, in order to register on Thursday early morning.Apart from normal comfortable clothes (jeans, shirts, sweater) and toiletries, there're still formal outfit for 30th Anniversary Celebration, and dresses for prom night to bring along. Which means, more shoes and accessories!I travel frequently, and I personally think that rule number-one is to pack lightly. I simply don't fanc Read more:flooded
yesterday was AKL, now CHC 2008-04-29 03:47:00 I'm back in Christchurch! The conference was awesome, but I'm too tired. Gosh, I only slept about 4-5 hours per day, the whole week through. I'll write about Autumn Conference later, after I recover from the weariness. As for now, I'll summarize our pre-conference night with some photos.waiting for Airbus at Auckland Domestic AirportAuckland is very much like Kuala Lumpur, with high rise buildings and congested traffic. Due to the heavy traffic (after office hour), it took almost 2 hours for us to reach Auckland City. We ended up reaching the backpacker around 6pm, although we flew from Christchurch at 2.15pm!We stayed in Conor's Topfloor Hostel during the pre-conference night. We were greeted by the old elevator, which we had to pull the iron bar manually, in order to open and clos
Autumn Conference: Evolution in 4th Gear 2008-05-04 02:21:00 Autumn Conference 2008 ended last week. After a week of recovering from the much needed sleep, and lots of catching up in university, here am I, highlighting the journey that we had traveled during the 5 days 4 nights conference. Evolution
in 4th Gear, that is, the theme of the conference. The conference started as we arrived at Waipuna Hotel & Conference Center for registration...See, my luggage wasn't big after all!Red and black, that's Canterbury!Line dance from the delivery team during the opening plenary. The "modern" technology that we had..Team building activitiesMy vision...Training sessionsApart from strategic planning, stimulation, skills building and training sessions throughout the conference, we had heaps of fun!Imagine squashing 20 marshmallows into your mouth! No, you're Read more:Autumn
For once, I wish I am cold-blooded 2008-05-08 04:08:00 Perhaps I should be cold-blooded
. Not in the sense that I'm heartless or cruel, but to be slaves to the temperature these few days. The weather in New Zealand changes drastically. It was bitterly cold in the past few days. I woke up with -2ºC yesterday morning, the ground was frosty. It was so freezing that I had to wear 4 layers of clothes (including 90% down winter jacket) to the university.I almost gear up like this...But today, I woke up with 9ºC, and the temperature shot up to 19ºC in the afternoon. In comparison, it was hot!! I wonder how am I going to adapt to the subzero and double-digit temperature that varies from day to day...Perhaps being an ectotherm wasn't bad after all. Then I will be able control my body temperature according to the weather. No matter how cold or
Happy Mother's Day! 2008-05-10 17:36:00 I've read this award winning essay a few years ago. Entry by Suituapui, again, brought back the heartbreaking story that happens in the world of globalization these days.Suddenly my thoughts were interrupted by the shrill ring tone of the mobile phone. “Yes? Britney speaking!” I cringed in discomfort. Never had I given her that name. But somehow the young people these days would rather b Read more:Happy

Flu jab 2008-05-15 03:15:00 I've been missing for quite a while. I was too caught up with labs, meetings.. Gosh, I just need to persist on and keep going!I happened to pass by UCSA building (UCSA=University of Canterbury Student Association) after helping out at UC Careers & Employment Fair yesterday, and the $2 subsidized flu shots were still available. Needles normally draw me back, but winter is just around the cor
Read more:Prayer
Venue, logistics and I 2008-05-17 05:06:00 Recently, I'm pretty much familiarize with venues available in Christchurch. A few months ago, I've been sourcing for venue to host AIESEC New Zealand National Spring Conference, which will be held on 20-24 November 2008. After that, I'm looking for venue to hold Canterbury Malaysian Students Night, which falls on 30 August 2008.Being the Organizing Committee President of Spring Conference, I vis Read more:Venue
Male dominant circle 2008-05-22 05:41:00 Boy, I just realized that I'm almost officially working in male-dominant groups. ;pWell, in Spring Conference organizing committee team, I'm the only female (out of 7). In CMSA's Malaysian night logistic team, again, I'm the only female. Among my "brothers", yes, I'm the one and only.I don't intend to discriminate. And I'm ready to argue with you on gender equality. However, sometimes, working
Here in my home 2008-05-23 05:15:00 I learned about this song, Here in My Home, from Daniel.A simple song, which really touch my heart. This project was put together by Malaysian Artists For Unity. It's all started from love, a love to our homeland, a gift to our nation, Malaysia. An anti-racism national unity song, which transcend political boundary. Meaningful lyrics, lively music, pure initiative.. blended all into perfection
Winter is almost here 2008-05-25 02:26:00 6 more days, and it will officially be winter! Man, I wish the sun comes out a.s.a.p. It has been raining these few days. As a result, I can't dry my clothes. Now, I can even "blow smoke" in my own room. See, how cold it is? Despite wearing thick layers of clothes, I still have the urge to hug my heater. This is also one of the reasons for me to love university. It's so much warmer in the scho
Tiramisu on face 2008-05-30 03:02:00 I'm back. =)After a week of battle, I'm back, at least for the weekend. I hope.Last Monday was Bob's birthday. So, we had a celebration dinner in the city. After dinner, it was time for cake and candles!!We had tiramisu for his birthday! I like tiramisu.. yum yum.. In New Zealand, candles are not complimentary with birthday cake; which means if you want to blow the candles, you have to buy t
Hometown 2008-06-01 03:02:00 Hometown, or kampung, is a city or town in which someone was born in or grew up in. It is also the place of someone's origin.Among fellow Malaysian, people tends to ask "Where is your hometown?" or "Where are you from?" during the first get-to-know session. In fact, this is a good way to bring up a conversation, as well as getting to know more about your friend. For me, however, hometown is co
Petrol price hike 2008-06-05 02:27:00 Now what? Petrolprice
in Malaysia increased by 78 cents, becomes RM2.70/L. I have been complaining about the 25% rise of petrol price in New Zealand over the last 4 months; but now, 41% in merely 24 hours in Malaysia! Avalanche from heaven 2008-06-07 02:45:00 Waking up at 14ºC at 8 o'clock in the morning was considerably hot. Sun shone brightly as I walked to attend Malam's meeting. However, rain started to pour around 1pm as I went to the university for some lab work. Oh well, working Saturday. As I took a break to quench my thirst, I saw white flake falling from the sky. Perplexed, I stared outside. Snow!! I can hardly control my excitement!! Read more:Avalanche

Ubuntu 2008-06-10 03:03:00 I received this parcel 2 weeks ago, all the way from The Netherland. A parcel that I anticipated earlier. Ok, I'm always excited whenever I receive any letter or parcel, excluding bank statements of course (because the amount of $$ keeps becoming less, which is sad)! Lol.
A parcel for me.

Not knowing where I'm flying to.. 2008-06-14 04:05:00 Have you ever bought flight ticket to any place, without knowing
where exactly you're heading to?
Yes, I did.
Last Thursday, it happened that I clicked on grabaseat website while waiting to fetch my friend from the airport. Grabaseat, operated by Air New Zealand, offers limited low flight fare daily for those who book in advance. Mostly, domestic flights.
That day, flight to Norfolk Island

Bean sprouts planted on gold 2008-06-17 03:03:00 Talking about bean sprouts, that was my first shock in New Zealand. A massive one.
During my first day of arrival in the garden city of NZ almost 2 years ago, our residential assistance brought us to Countdown (a hypermarket nearby) to get some commodities. Back then, I stayed in Ilam Village, one of the university's hall of residence. You can imagine the everything-is-so-darn-expensive
What astrology says this week? 2008-06-22 03:56:00 Well, I'm not really into astrology, or horoscope; but since astrocenter sends a copy of horoscope into my mailbox weekly, there's no harm reading it. Mostly, it's just for the fun of it, and spice up with a little curiosity. Or so, I thought. Haha!
This week, my horizon says: Persevere.
Your friends, associates, and colleagues may be the ones urging you to try new things. There is no doubt
