Mid week 2008-02-27 02:19:00 It's the 3rd day of new term. Heaps of people wandering in the university. It was sort of weird at first, since there was hardly anyone in the campus during summer break. Yet now, students are everywhere! Those who hold a map while walking are first year students for sure. It reminds me of my first week of both undergrad and postgrad. Hehe! ;pWith orientation week running, Clubs Day at the lawn, and lift construction in my school, it was all noisy. I can't help being distracted by the noise out there. Thanks to my new iPod shuffle, it is all good now. :)While I was doing lab work this afternoon, I can't help but glance at my labmate who was smiling cheekily, with all the questions in my head. So here goes...Me: Huh? What's so funny?H: Enjoy being single!Me: Huh??? (Obvious, I

after massive cleaning = sore 2008-02-16 22:36:00 Cleaning up sis's house for 3 consecutive days wasn't fun. With inches thick of dust and stain, a massive
spring cleaning was much needed, from the room, to kitchen, laundry area, toilet... Grrrr!!! My whole body is so sore now. How nice if there's jacuzzi or spa available! Even a simple massage will do.No wonder my friends always commented about the houses in Dunedin in a single word, slump. Well, Dunedin is a student town. Probably that's why most owner doesn't seem to care about the condition of the house. As long as it's near to the university, it'll be occupied. But I think the owners should be more human lah.. they're only students mar..Ok, should focus on my report.. Ciao..
Winter in summer month 2008-02-15 01:24:00 It's freaking cold today. Drench, wet, gusty, chill... that was all I can think of. It has been raining since yesterday night, in Christchurch. This morning, it was 8°C. Mind you, it's still summer month at the moment! NZ is well-known for its unpredictable weather. Sometimes, there can be 4 seasons in a single day. So, checking weather forecast is a daily-must-do for me.It rained all the way from Christchurch to Dunedin. On top of that, it was very gusty! Gotta hold on to the steering tight before it got blown away. Well, sis and I drove down south to Dunedin just now, with a whole full load of stuff, as her new semester will begin next week. Gosh, I wonder how she accumulates all those stuff in just 3 months! The whole 4WD was full with hers and her friend's stuff!! FULL L
Love is on the messenger 2008-02-14 00:18:00 Being 5418 miles (or 8720 km) away from home, internet messenging client is the main medium for me to keep in touch with family and friends. Calling can be quite a hassle at times, taking time-zone difference into consideration. For example, when I'm free at night, my family and friends back home might still at work or school (NZ and Malaysia is 5 hours difference).MSN Live MessengerWith internet messenger application, I can just leave an offline messenge for the other party to reply (but never attempt this if it's urgent!) . Besides, both caling and texting will burn a hole in my pocket if I don't keep them to the minimum. So, MSN Live Messenger, Yahoo Messenger and Google Talk is still my best option!Yahoo MessengerTechnologies bridge the distance, especially on special occasion like V
New Year Eve on Waitangi 2008-02-08 04:30:00 This year, CNY eve was a public holiday. Surprise? Well, just because it fell on the same day as Waitangi Day, a public holiday in New Zealand on February 6th each year to commemorate signing the treaty.Sis, Rong and I went to Willowbank Wildlife Reserve during noon. Since the entrance was free only on Waitangi, between 10am-3pm, the traffic was so congested! I started to wonder if we are visiting the wildlife, or the animals are watching at us human! Nevertheless, we saw 2 kiwibirds. That was the main purpose of the visit after all. :)Pineapple cookies, baked by sis of course!Back home, and prepared dishes for reunion dinner in the evening. Although ours was not the traditional-must-have such as abalone, fish, pork..., we had the modern style reunion dinner instead. Hehe. We had v Read more:New Year

What does your birth date mean? 2008-02-05 00:21:00 I got this explanation from one of the applications in the ever popular Facebook. For those who still kinda "outdated", Facebook is a social networking website, just like Friendster, Hi5, Bebo, Multiply, etc. Facebook has expanded globally and earn a revenue of US$100 million (2006 estimated), in just 4 years!Anyway, my birth
date, 15 Sept, means..."You find happiness in a lot of things and believe in living life as it comes. You are close to family and friends. But it's hard to get into your inner circle. You believe in the little things that make people happy and you probably like an inviting home and a cozy bed. You try to be in harmony with others, but occasionally you have a very stubborn streak."True.. very true leh.. especially the occasionally stubborn part.. hehe.. ;p
North Island Road Trip - Finale 2008-02-03 02:42:00 Wellington – Picton – Blenheim – Kaikoura – Christchurch After checking into Interislander, we took a 3 hours ferry, crossing the strait between Wellington and Picton. Not much visiting was done on this day, as we hoped to reach Christchurch by evening. The journey from Picton to Christchurch took about 5 hours, such a long drive!InterislanderFor a comparison, I think the scenery in South Island
is more breathtaking than North
Island. The Southern Alps stands up above all. North Island is more lively and developed. Unlike North Island, South Island seems more deserted and lack of human. The scenic setting along the way was magnificent. We even had the opportunity to sight NZ Fur Seal on the rocks of Ohau Seal Colony Point. We were so excited! Not only a few, but a whole colony Read more:Finale

North Island Road Trip - Day 7 2008-02-02 21:11:00 Paekakariki – WellingtonWellington is well-known as the windiest city in NZ. The capital of NZ, is situated at the southern tip of NorthIsland
. I had visited most of the attractions in “Windy Welly” 1.5 years ago. This time, I was just bringing sis around the city. We visited the famous Te Papa Museum. There is a huge Maori collections, NZ’s history, culture, exhibitions, captivating stories of the land, environment and people, etc, to discover in the national museum. Located at the waterfront, the museum is certainly a must see.spectacular harbourTe Papa MuseumThen, we took a guided tour of parliament buildings. This time is my second tour too. It refreshed my memory about the government, history, artworks, architecture, activities, and everyday life of parliament. The i Read more:Road Trip
North Island Road Trip - Day 6 2008-02-02 20:52:00 Napier – Hasting – Palmerston North
– Woodville – PaekakarikiAwaken early dawn, to catch sight of the beautiful sunrise of Hawkes Bay. The sun, soaring gradually from the sea, is one of the picturesque moments I ever had. I enjoyed the coastal scenery in Napier. Napier, known as Art Deco Capital of the World, certainly has many architectural heritages to offer in and around the city centre.Botanical Garden in NapierTaking a slow drive while mesmerizing the beautiful bay, we visited Classic Sheepskins. There, we experienced a unique tour of the tanning process, from how the sheepskins being washed, dyed, treated, and processed, in order to produce a variety of items including toys, car seats covers, rugs, and others.Tanning processAfter visiting the Silky Oak Chocolate Company, Read more:Island

North Island Road Trip - Day 5 2008-02-02 04:50:00 Rotorua – Taupo – Napier Early morning, we departed to Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland, so that in time for the spout off of Lady Knox Geysers which erupted at 10.15am daily. At first, I thought nature is doing wonders for the punctuality of daily eruptions. A bit disappointed lah, when I got to know that the geyser is actually erupted by adding soap, in order to release the surface tension. No wonder it’s so punctual! Nevertheless, it’s quite an eyes opener to see the geyser shoot up with my own naked eyes.Lady Knox GeysersThe visit in Wai-O-Tapu was worthwhile. We caught sight of many interesting features, such as the beautiful Champagne pool, craters, blowholes, and colourful mineral terraces. North Island Road Trip - Day 4 2008-02-02 03:18:00 RotoruaSince it’s summer now, Rotorua is very pack with tourists. There’re so many backpackers in the city. Our dorm-mate from UK, Sarah, is one of them. She stays and travels from town to town, and works when short of $$. Sometimes, I really envy their carefreeness. Being an Asian, there’re so many perceptions to oblige, expectations to fulfill. As a kid, I dreamed to travel the world. Even now, I would love to explore and travel the world whenever I can. Just that, there seems to be more and more commitments that restrict me to do so.Rotorua City CenterTe WhakarewarewaAfter walking around the city center, we went somewhere further. Driving along the scenic Tarawera Road, we passed Blue and Green Lakes, as well as Buried Village of Te Wairoa, before reaching Lake Tarawera. Read more:North

I just want to be safe 2008-02-01 15:28:00 I had the most nerve-wrecking morning in my life! Ok, let alone roller coaster, space shot, abseiling, or any other extreme sports. This is simply s.c.a.r.y.!Well, one of my friend who just got an 'L' (learner license) wanted some practice sessions. So, I was 'obligated' to accompany and teach. He has yet to learn to hold the steering properly. My heart was going from dupdup.. dupdup.. dupdup.. to dupdupdupdupdupddup...!! You can imagine that we hit into a few dividers, and going like a 'S' on the road instead of straight line! Oh man, I wish there's a brake and steering at the passenger side! Luckily, there weren't many car on road on a Saturday morning, and I brought him to drive around uni. No wonder AA charges 50 bucks an hour. Perhaps I should next time.Still another session
North Island Road Trip - Day 3 2008-02-01 04:47:00 Tauranga – Te Puke - RotoruaI should say, one of the highlight of this road trip was getting to know fruit trees more! Being brought up in a tropical country, I only know how apples, oranges, kiwifruits, etc. look like, since we can buy them in the market. But, not the REAL fruit trees. I was certainly thrilled to see nectarine, peach, apple, citrus, avocado TREES, as well as kiwifruit and grape PLANTS!! And most importantly, kiwifruits don’t grow on tree! I know it sounds hilarious, laugh all you want. But hey, it’s still not too late to witness the real fruits growing on the real trees/plants now! =pLooking Glass Garden, one of the lookout point on our wayTe Puke, about 20 minutes drive from Tauranga, is the kiwifruit capital of NZ. For the sake of the title 2008-03-14 00:36:00 Sorry people, I have not been updating my blog for quite a while. I'm too occupied~ trying to rush lab works, editing report, lab demonstrating and preparation, meetings and all. On top of that, one of my friend was here for the weekdays, so gotta layan a bit too.Warning: Don't continue reading if you think that you might be offended.I was quite disappointed with the mentality of the minority. You see, one of my friend took honours (undergraduate) this year and has been complaining about the amount of work loads, such as assignments, papers to read, or such. Yet, always thought that Master is easier, and PhD is the easiest. I can only shake my head and laugh at his ignorance. If climbing up higher qualification is easier as such, everyone will have a PhD by now. The truth is, the f
God Pinged Me... 2008-03-17 04:20:00 A forwarded mail, which I found it inspiring. This is an excellent conversation between the 'God' and the unknown 'Me'. I might not believe in God, but I think the reading is worthwhile. Hope you are motivated in some way too. :)(I've highlighted the phrase that I found particularly stimulating)God : Hello. Did you call me?Me: Called you? No.. Who is this ?God : This is GOD. I heard your prayers. So I thought I will chat.Me : I do pray. Just makes me feel good. I am actually busy now. I am in the midst of something.God : What are you busy at? Ants are busy too.Me : Don't know. But I can't find free time. Life has become hectic. It's rush hour all the time.God : Sure. Activity gets you busy. But productivity gets you results. Activity consumes time. Productivity frees it.Me : I underst
Assessment Center 2008-03-21 04:12:00 AIESEC's assessment center was held 2 days ago. After much time spent on screening of applicants by the recruitment team, about 18 potential recruits was selected to attend the assessment center. I'm one of the assessors of that day. :)I can't remember how many times I have participated as an assessor. Nevertheless, each time was a learning experience, where I observed the candidates, compared their abilities, as well as knowing more in-depth about the competencies that companies are looking for. No doubt, leadership quality is important. At the same time, a whole range of activity was designed to evaluate the candidates' communication, problem-solving, good judgement and reasoning skills, ability to work well as a team, passion, willingness to learn, enthusiasm... and so on.Som Read more:Center

Earth Hour '08, a small effort that makes a difference. 2008-03-24 04:34:00 Extreme weather intensity, drought, severe storms, rising sea levels, species extinctions, greenhouse gases emission, and massive climate change are some of the effects of global warming. Blue, u got me! 2008-03-26 02:25:00 Merely 7.5 hours after i booked my flight to Auckland, to attend AIESEC's Autumn Conference end of next month ..I received a newsletter from Pacific Blue..Grrrrrrrrrrr... Arghhhhh!!Maybe I should wait till "last minute" next time!!
March 29 2008-03-29 03:55:00 60 minutes of turning off the light can actually be a little difficult. I guess, that's because we've taken the luxury that we have, in this case ~ energy, for granted. We're so used to have electricity at home. Although I must admit that blackout does happen occasionally in Malaysia, but there's almost none in New Zealand (at least I haven't encounter any during my 20 months here).Probably I'm that kind of person who just can't sit there, and do nothing. In my definition, do nothing = waste time. If I really have nothing to do, I'll still find something to do. *lolz* I might read some non-academic books or news, surf the net, go out... but simply not laying around and let my mind go blank. I will get very restless. ;psee what i mean?Anyway, today's exam was very difficult, it was Read more:March

Dr. Doolittle 2008-04-04 02:53:00 Just watched Dr. Doolittle
: Tail to The Chief with sis a moment ago. It's a heartwarming American comedy. It's all started when Maya Dolittle went for an adventure to help US President with his out of control first dog, Daisy, up to saving the country from its national crisis. I know most guys prefer action movies, and might not enjoy this type of "slower" and "less exciting" one. But most gals find it interesting! I personally think this movie is worth watching, as there's valuable information about valuing the environment, protecting animals and rainforest throughout the story. Simple and direct message about wildlife preservation!!Another part which I enjoyed most is: With the expectation to live up her father's reputation, the uncertainty to deal with the dog, the unfruitful effort

It's only my second time.Somehow, I was very tired today, due to the only 4 hours sleep last night (I normally need 7-8 hours sleep per day). So, I wasn't feeling well to enjoy the scenery from the top. I should have taken the photo of the bus this morning. Blame all on the fatigue! Port Chalmers 2008-04-05 02:58:00 In order to take a break from studying, my sis and I "endure" the chilling breeze on a sunny day by visiting Port Chalmers. The remarkable harbour of the olden days is situated about 10km from Dunedin city. Fueled by Otago gold rush, Port Chalmers became an important trading port in the 19th century. Today, it is the main export port of South Island. The town is home to many galleries, design boutiques, and antique stores. While exploring the port, we enjoyed the charm of the Otago's harbour and coastal landscape, as well as the historical buildings.our first stop at Port Chalmerremarkable view from Flagstaff LookoutSculpture Gardenmain export port of South IslandLady Thorn Dell ~ once a blue stone quarryCarey Bay - perfect for sailingthe historical towneating yummy Eclairs on our way
