Oomphatico’s - Mould of their Own! 2008-03-06 10:13:24 Stepped into Oomphatico’s and you would imagine yourself transported to another world – lush and whimsical, the place was brightly and warmly lit with colours – a mixed of modern yet vintage feel. Furniture were well spaced so one would not feel confined. The fixtures were very cosy with thick cushioned armchairs, in a myriad of colours and tones, and there's a stylish casualness about the place, without being pretentious, it gives customers a very peaceful ambience to dine in. Pride itself of serving “Good Food”, the outlet comes with many interesting items on the menu – organic, Thai, noodles, Raw, gluten-free, raw and even ZEN to name some of them. You probably need time to scrutinise the menu to fully understand the kinds of items available to delight your palate. For start
How would you like the "Doneness" of your steak to be? 2008-02-26 11:15:13 After this post by ieatishootipost, where he mentioned in his comments "Kalos - I never said the steak was medium rare in the post. Actually I asked for somewhere in between Medium to Medium Rare. Too much rare on a thick steak like this and I feel like I was eating sashimi."I felt strongly that he was wrong. My reply to him was "... any good piece of steak not done medium rare is a waste of natural juices to the meat, as this is the time the meat begins to release alot of "red juices". Also, I feel a medium rare steak have a "springy" feel to the firmness." -- He did not reply after that.I stood for what I believe in - that steak are meant to be done medium rare at least. This especially after suffering two unfortunate incidents at Friends@Jelita & Aston Prime for overcooking my steak
Da Paolo's Pizza Bar - Italian Pizza At It's Best! 2008-02-24 11:59:16 For me, there is nothing more Italian
than a piping hot & thin crusty slice of pizza. At Da Paolo
, you find a stylish Pizza
Bar like no other – with its long strip of dappled brown and white cow hide running along the ceiling and down one wall, bronze panels, a wall of wine-bottles and a stylish glass kitchen – Da Paolo’s choice of location for the Pizza Bar was premeditated – the bohemian status of Chip Bee Gardens lends itself to the Pizza Bar’s concept of providing a friendly and inspired environment to dine and wine. The Pizza Bar pursues closely to Da Paolo trademark cooking that is using fresh ingredients to elicit the taste. Ingredients to make the pizza dough are sourced directly from Italy and toppings are made from fresh ingredients only. For starters, we decided on
Friends @ Jelita 2008-02-16 11:21:17 Having read a few rave reviews about Friends
@ Jelita, and armed with their $50 voucher (for every $150 spend), I was looking forward to spend a wonderful evening with a few of my friends. A causal fine dining restaurant, the owner of Friends, Thomas Chiam decided to open a second outlet at Jelita, minutes away from Holland Village after the success of its first outlet at Serangoon Gardens. We were surprised to find the restaurant empty on a Thursday evening when we arrived. After ordering, we were served the complimentary bread, and unlike the dip I had @ Wild Rocket, this one comes with Balsamic Vinaigrette along with olive oil. However, the food took surprisingly long to arrive considering that there were only 2 other tables that arrived after us. After 40 minutes, the starter of Pan-fr

Hai Kee (Soy) Sauce Chicken Rice & Noodle 2008-04-22 12:21:20 Across the road from Katong Mall – at the corner before the traffic light lies a coffee shop with a signboard that screams “126 Beer Garden”!!! Situated along East Coast Road – a gem is holed within this very cosy coffee shop – Hai Kee (Soy) Sauce Chicken
Rice & Noodle
.Formerly from Upper Cross Street, what strikes me amid the new and colourful signage was the doggy looking yellow board placed behind – rustic and oily facade – a trademark of tradition!I proceed to order a plate of Dry Soy Sauce Chicken Noodle ($3) and I wasn’t disappointed by the noodles. The texture of the noodles was very pliable and bouncy – cooked just right to give it that extra bite. However, I was a little dismayed that some of the chicken pieces were smashed before being chopped up, so what yo
Frolick - Politically Incorrect but Rightfully Yummy 2008-04-25 22:54:27 Turned into Holland Village, one would probably missed a minimalist store furnishing decked in white – but with its colourful slogans and buttons SCREAMING on the exterior walls, one cannot help but stand up and take notice of this new outlet in the vicinity – Frolick. Following right after another icy haven that opened in the surrounding area – Cold Rock Ice Creamery, run by savvy young owners, May Chan and Lynn Ong, Frolick opened by Mr John Tan, 25, is essentially pursing the frozen yoghurt route. At Frolick, customers are given free buttons with naughty slogans with every purchase, with mine suggesting “I Like It Topless”. This politically incorrect theme – an appeal to the now younger and rebellious generation – is also adopted in their various tabletops – “WE STAY H Read more:Incorrect

Peach Garden @ 33 2008-04-27 11:41:51 ... was the venue for our dim sum lunch today. The brainchild of two ladies, Angela Ho and Veronica Tan, this latest outlet resides within the 33rd storey of the Executives’ Club of OCBC Centre at Chulia Street (the flagship being at Novena Garden
s and their second outlet at Thomson Plaza), and exudes modern sophistication while preserving an oriental charm vis-à-vis Chinese wooden furnishing, paintings and valued objet d'art.Diners should also reserve beforehand to grab one of the limited tables beside the windowpane that offers a sight of the central business district and panoramic view of the Singapore River.Food came fast and furious and before we knew it, our table was filled with the many baskets and plates. Allauddin’s Briyani - Tekka Most Famous 2008-04-29 11:54:45 After sampling the SHIOK Yakader Chicken Briyani a few months back, people all over has been asking me to try the most famous briyani stall at the other side of Tekka Food Centre instead. The queue at this stall meant nothing as I stood there waiting (Can you see the guy in front of me getting impatient). And waiting for a whole of 20 minutes. For those who still do not know, this stall is none other than Allauddin’s Briyani (no prize for those who guessed it correctly though). For $4.00, what you get is also another plate of orangey red looking plate of Chicken Briyani that gets zero marks for presentation. At least Yakader’s serving came lined with banana leaf, what you get from Allauddin is just a Styrofoam plate with no achar (spicy pickled salad) in sight (not that I eat them anywa Read more:Famous
Aston Prime - The Reprieve 2008-05-04 02:23:25 After a very unfortunate experience previously, I was surprised to receive a personal call from the owner, Mr Aston
Soon, whom invited me back to Aston Prime as a mystery diner as a way of compensating my last dining experience as well as to help provide feedback to him. So with that in mind, I rounded a couple of friends (in view that a biased review will not take place) and off we went to Katong for our Sunday lunch. Lunch took place at 1.30pm and there were only two tables – us and another table (2 more tables were occupied by the time we left). With the review in mind, I ordered most of the items that was ordered previously. As always, the meal began with the Complimentary Bread and Homemade Garlic Spread. For a good start, the bread was served slightly warm and soft, however, the sp
Going Om - An Alternative Home 2008-05-06 11:22:21 Tucked in the corner of the eclectic Haji Lane, there lies a café in a simply refurbished shophouse that you may seek harmony, peacefulness and bliss within the confines. Set up by Mr Barry Tan and Mr Oliver Pang, Going

What Turns You On... 2008-05-08 10:58:03 … as a customer that is (for the rest of you that chanced upon this site due to other *ahem* reasons, well shame on you… but I hope you enjoy your stay nevertheless). You see, for those who know me well enough knows I always wanted to start my own food business – café, restaurant, hawker, etc, you name it and I bet you I have thought about it. I was just chatting with a friend recently who had prior experience to operating a café and we were debating on what would make a customer tick, what turns a customer on, that they would give your place a try, till the point you convert them as a repeat customer, that they would frequent your outlet again and again. My friend said that it is food that will eventually draw the people, but my argument was hiring a chef is costly and risk

Coffee Club @ Holland V - The NEW Has Come 2008-05-12 12:07:20 With its own on-site coffee roasting facilities in its flagship gourmet coffee house at Holland
