Howard Stern - Prank call with multiple voices
2007-01-26 17:22:33
I am fortunate enough to have a boyfriend who listens to Howard Stern each day, so that I don't have to. For the most part I find that show really hard to listen to. Everybody speaks over everybody else, and yet they manage to say nothing at all over a period of 5 hours. It's like listening to 13-year-old boys converse in the back seat of a bus. Total waste of time. But they do know how to make a good prank call, and Tim is good enough to let me know when there's something worth listening to. The mp3 below is definitely one of those times. The scene: Richard calls an old lady who is advertising 3 items for sale. He responds to every question with three pre-recorded answers, all at the same time. It's so mean, and so awesome.

Koalas aren't hard they some little bitches.

This essay was written by an 8th grader in Pittsburgh in the spring of 2004. The assignment was to pick an endangered species, and explain why protecting it is important. The typos and formatting are preserved from the original. To my knowledge, no aspect of the essay has been altered. via Something Awful Richard XXXXXXXX Draft 2 I shouldn't do shit. I don't care about them they all could die and it won't affect my life. I know a lot about them but I don't need to think about them. They're just a waste of time koalas are stupid they don't help me with shit so why should I help them. If they all die there will be more room for the panthers and all the other hard animals. Koalas are weak a pit will get rid of their whole fucking family. That's why I don't like koalas. Koalas have sharp claws but they are weak. They all small and fat and they be climing trees. Some Things Meatloaf Would and Would Not Do for Love
2007-01-24 19:42:01
Things Meatloaf would do for love: + run right into hell and back. + never lie to you and thats a fact. + be there until the final act. + take a vow and seal a pact. + raise you up and help you down. + get right out of this god-forsaken town. + make it all a little less cold. + hold you sacred. + hold you tight. + colorize your life because you're so sick of black and white. + make it all a little less old. + make you some magic with his own two hands. + build you an emerald city with grains of sand. + give you something you can take home. + cater to every fantasy you got. + hose you down with holy water if you get too hot. + take you places you've never known. D200
2007-01-24 18:40:01
Yesterday it arrived - my brand new Nikon D200 and 50mm f/1.8 AF lens. It's beautiful, and I feel all inspired for the first time in ages. I loved my D70 to death, but it feels like a toy compared to my new camera. It has a magnesium alloy body, it's fully weather sealed and the LCD screen is big and bright. Most importantly, there are dedicated buttons for settings that I could only access via the menu on my D70. Major design improvement in that regard. Plus, I can shoot at ISO 100 for the first time since shooting film, and I didn't realise until yesterday just how important that can be. Shooting with my new prime lens has also made me truly appreciate the value of speed in a lens. The next item on my wishlist is probably the 18-200mm VR, but at close to AU$1000 I have a feeling I'll be waiting a little while. I'm so excited that I don't even care that I'll be living on 2 minute noodles for the next few months :)

The One Million Masterpiece Project
2007-01-12 17:56:44
The One Million Masterpiece project is a fund-raising initiative for various international charities. It seeks to create one collaborative work from one million little square drawings, and raise US$6.5m in the process. If all goes well, it should also break world records. Some people write little messages to their friends, and others draw stunning works of art. It doesn't matter which category you fall into - what's important is that money is being raised for a good cause, and you're contributing to a little piece of history. Go and contribute something yourself, and throw a few dollars their way. It's good for the soul! I've put my favourite one behind this link, because the animation is a serious memory hogger. Enjoy!

A new start
2007-01-12 03:54:36
It wasn't so long ago that I began a new blog, on a different domain. I found out about a month-long challenge called National Blog Posting Month (NaBloPoMo) in November, and quickly threw together a blog in time to participate. 2006 was the year I decided to keep a paper journal each day, and I saw NaBloPoMo as an opportunity to revive my online blogging. It worked, but once the month was up I quickly lost my momentum again. I didn't have much of an audience, and sitting down to write into the great abyss was just a chore. This time I'm taking a new approach. My old site, Scarlet Arts, will become the online store and portfolio that I've been talking about for the past 2 years. This blog at Scarlet Words will have a dual purpose - it will serve as a record for all the neat stuff I find online that I can't easily incorporate into my paper journal, and a discussion place for interesting issues in news and current affairs. I figure that having selfish reasons for keeping thi

Victim mugged for his beer
2006-12-21 06:42:15
The article below needs to be preserved for the sake of history, and to inform those who are unfamiliar with my country. This crime is about as Aussie as a koala fart. A man was punched in the face and had his beer stolen during a robbery in Melbourne's north-east early today. Two men left the Northcote Railway Station and were walking east towards Arthurton Road just before 12.30am (AEDT), when three men approached them, a police spokesman said. One of the trio asked one of the men for a beer, which he was carrying in a plastic bag. The man handed over the beer but when he refused to hand over more the group surrounded the two men and punched the man not carrying the beer in the face. The offenders took six cans of beer before fleeing. "The victims said one of the men had a chain wrapped around his hand and believed that another was also armed with a knife," the spokesman said. He said police were searching for three men described as a Caucasian, Asian and an Aboriginal

Hospital keeps baby until parents pay
2007-01-26 21:27:00
AN Indonesian clinic is keeping a baby until his poor parents pay the bill for his delivery, a report said Thursday. Pedicab driver Sutrisno is 2.2 million rupiah (about $320s) short of the 3.5 million rupiah bill owed to the clinic, The Jakarta Post reported. Mr Sutrisno, 33, has paid 1.3 million rupiah to the Murni Asih clinic near Jakarta after borrowing from friends. "I don't know where I'll get another 2.2 million rupiah from,'' he said. The clinic in Bojong Nangka allowed his wife Sumarni, 30, to leave after she gave birth last week but is keeping the baby boy until the bill is paid, the Post said. "We'll take care of the baby and will return him to his parents as soon as they've paid the 3.5 million rupiah in full,'' clinic spokesman Fendi Sihombing told the Post. He said the parents had initially agreed to the arrangement. "We didn't take the baby hostage,'' he said. via news.com.au

It won't be easy filling her shoe.

News reports have confirmed that Paul McCartney has separated from his wife Heather Mills-McCartney. Mrs Mills-McCartney is said to be distraught over the split. "He has been my crutch for so long"! She said in an earlier briefing, "I have no idea why this has happened, I'm really stumped" "She's running around in circles", according to a close friend, "she will need all the support she can get. It's not like it's easy for her to walk out on a relationship like this" It is not known whether a pre-nuptial agreement was signed prior to the marriage. Paul McCartney is one of the richest men in the world, and if an agreement has been signed it is believed that she won't have a leg to stand on. Rumours abound over the split, which have suggested that infidelity may have been the cause. "She's terrible" a source stated, "always trying to get her leg over". Another source has suggested that her battle with alcoholism was the cause. "Macca couldn't handle it anymore" a friend said,

American Idol Viewers Petition To Bring Back Sixty-Four Year Old Sherman Pore
2007-02-02 16:37:55
Every once in awhile, an American Idol contestant touches the hearts of Idol viewers in a special way. The latest contestant to pull off such a feat was none other than sixty-four year old Sherman Pore. Even though Sherman was 36 years over the American Idol age limit of 28, he showed up at the auditions with a petition to be an American Idol contestant. While American Idol has let contestants over the age limit audition in the past, most of those auditions have been for comic relief. However, Sherman Pore said the reason he was auditioning was he had worked on a letter and petition to become an American Idol contestant with his lady love of twenty years while she was in the hospital because of cancer. Sherman choked up as he said, "I believe that it helped her to keep a positive attitude, and I think it smoothed her passing and made it a little softer" Before his Los Angeles audition, Sherman also revealed to the judges that his lady love had passed away two days before the aud

Snow
2007-02-04 00:24:59
Last night we had our first proper snow since I arrived. It's apparently very weird that we went through December and January with just a couple of dustings of snow, so there were little kids outside throwing snowballs and being all excited. Their cat was bouncing around in the snow too, it was really funny. Tim and I decided to go for a walk down to the gas station, so that I could experience in properly. But first, I had to make my first snowman in about 15 years... ... and I have only just noticed that he has nipples. I'm pretty sure that wasn't intended. Also, a (hand-held) long exposure of the beautiful tree outside our bedroom window: Life is good :)

Prehistoric lovers found locked in eternal embrace
2007-02-07 23:02:29
ROME, Italy (AP) -- It could be humanity's oldest story of doomed love. Archaeologists have unearthed two skeletons from the Neolithic period locked in a tender embrace and buried outside Mantua, just 25 miles south of Verona, the romantic city where Shakespeare set the star-crossed tale of "Romeo and Juliet." Buried between 5,000 and 6,000 years ago, the prehistoric pair are believed to have been a man and a woman and are thought to have died young, as their teeth were found intact, said Elena Menotti, the archaeologist who led the dig. "As far as we know, it's unique," Menotti told The Associated Press by telephone from Milan. "Double burials from the Neolithic are unheard of, and these are even hugging." The burial site was located Monday during construction work for a factory building in the outskirts of Mantua. Alongside the couple, archaeologists found flint tools, including arrowheads and a knife, Menotti said. Experts will now study the artifacts and the skeletons to d

I've decided on a plan of action to build up my photography portfolio, with a view to promoting myself as an event/portrait photographer - and I need your help! Upon my return to Brisbane I will be offering portrait sessions free of charge. I need to gather a variety of faces to put together a diverse portfolio, and am interested in photographing as many of your friends, family and pets as you can gather. Be photographed alone, with your partner or best friend, have a family portrait with your siblings and parents, or let me capture your band / netball team / book club / trivia team in action. You will receive a high resolution selection of the best photos on CD, and I can arrange commercial grade prints at a very cheap, profit-free rate. You are also welcome to use the images on your personal/team/band's website, in exchange for a small link to my online portfolio. In return, you would sign a release that grants me permission to use the images for promotion (and publication, but

"Australia" up for sale
2007-02-08 17:44:00
A Kuwaiti firm has said it was negotiating with regional and international investors to sell all or part of the "Australia " segment it had purchased in Dubai's The World property project. Investment Dar, a publicly-quoted company on the Kuwait Stock Exchange, two years ago bought the Australian continent on The World, some 300 islands shaped like a world map off Dubai's coast. The company said in a statement posted on the KSE website that its subsidiary, Oqyana Real Estate, which is managing the project is "holding talks to sell all or significant parts of Australian continent." If the negotiations were successful, the company expects to make profits of about 1.5 billion dollars or more "based on available information," the statement said Sunday. The company had been planning a 3.5-billion-dollar real estate and tourism development project on its part of The World islands. The project would comprise more than 1,500 apartments with panoramic views, 90 water homes, 170 canal hom
