Google love
2008-03-07 11:28:00
I heart google. If you've been reading this blog long enough, you already know that. Did you know that googling "pregnancy cyberchondria" brings me up on the first search results page? It's true. Try it. I dare you. I find it so amusing to look at my website tracking tools and see the things that people googled to end up on my site. For instance, back in December, googling the phrase "

As heard while watching the Today Show
2008-03-06 20:51:00
Kyle: What's the big deal about Filene's? Me: It's a store in NYC that has a huge bridal sale today. People line up way early because they can get designer dresses for really cheap. Kyle: Oh, like that episode of Friends where Phoebe and Rachel help Monica find her dress? Me: You know . . . at times like these, I really feel like I'm getting through to you.

Putting away groceries

At some point during putting away the groceries , Jack snagged this from the bottom shelf in the refrigerator door. What a stinker!

I shouldn't be allowed to have nice things.
2008-03-05 00:08:00
So, do you remember my new phone that I got about 2 weeks ago? When I got out of the car to switch drivers while we were driving through a blizzard tonight, I'm pretty sure it fell out. Which means it's laying in the middle of the road at an exit between Lansing and Jackson. And now I can't sleep because I'm so stressed about it. Ugh. I actually have some really good things to say about the

I just want to squeeze him and dangle him from my rear view mirror!
2008-03-03 22:13:00
In case you missed it, the title of this post is what Paula Abdul said to one of the American Idol contestants last week. Anyway, here's yet another video of Jack. It's pretty much 1 minute and 30 seconds of me putting sunglasses on him and him yanking them off and giggling. Oh, and I apologize in advance for my high-pitched baby talk voice. Try singing "Amazing Grace" without the "wretch like me" in it.
2008-03-03 21:48:00
Our pastor referenced an article during Sunday's sermon that made me want to read more. So, I googled the author's name and read it in its entirety. You can read the full article here. You can download his sermon here. Here are some excerpts that he used that made me interested. But really, read the whole article. You'll be glad you did. ". . . my family attended a first communion service.

Photos from Jack's 9th month
2008-03-02 20:12:00
I really feel like I just posted Jack's 6 week photos . . . and now he's 9 months old. Where does the time go? YOu can see all of the pictures from his 9th month here. The rocking horse in the photos was given to my brother when he was born by my Grandma and Grandpa Wietholter.

Dear Jack, Month 9
2008-03-02 18:54:00
Dear Jack, You turn nine months old today. You’ve now been living in our house for as long as you were living in my belly. The trial period is over. We’ve decided to keep you. You’re finally catching on to the whole sleeping thing. You’ve figured out how to fall asleep on your own (though there is still some crying). This past Tuesday and Wednesday you took a THREE HOUR NAP each

Coupons you won't want to miss . . .
2008-03-01 15:18:00
I went shopping today while Kyle was at small group. I've gotta stop doing that because grocery shopping takes about 1 hour longer than Kyle's small group does and he always ends up being the last one gone (sorry, Archers). Anyway, I clipped coupons this week for things that I normally use. I don't usually do this, but I thought I'd give it a try and save a few bucks. I tried to match the

No one ever said it would be easy

Jack's Aunt Kristen and Uncle Brett got him a great toy for Christmas and it's becoming a fast favorite. He loves pushing it around the house, but it's not without a few tumbles along the way. The courtesy laugh
2008-02-29 17:57:00
I give and receive many courtesy laughs every day. You know what I'm talking about, right? They're the "I don't really think you're funny but I'm going be polite" laughs. I've always been able to spot a courtesy laugh when I see one. In fact, I took this quiz and scored a 19 out of 20! Take it and let me know how you do!

Christianity's misbegotten stepcousin
2008-02-29 06:24:00
So, I've mentioned that I'm working on my master's thesis, but I haven't said what I'm writing about. I will say that this post is lengthy and not really keeping with my blog's usual tone . . . but it's my blog and I can write about whatever I want to write about. So, let me get all academic on you here for a bit . . . I'll start from the beginning. A few years ago we had a speaker at camp who

A great snack for LOST!
2008-02-28 19:58:00
Lost starts in TWO MINUTES! Kyle made this for us to snack on while we watch. Except, he substituted brown sugar for white sugar. I can't get over how good it is! Oh here we go . . . previously on LOST . . .

Keep in touch
2008-02-26 13:53:00
I've had a lot of cell phones. When I started at camp in 2000, the staff all had cell phones the size of bricks (I am not speaking hyperbolically). Then I had the slightly smaller phone with the interchangeable blue and silver faceplates. This was cool for about two weeks. Following that I had a series of four flip phones. The speaker quit on the first. The second was stolen. The third had

Squeals
2008-02-25 16:23:00
On Saturday morning, Jack started babbling with really high-pitched squeals. He hasn't done this in about 5 months. We have no idea what triggered it, but I suspect it has something to do with the hideous dinosaur pajamas that we made him wear to bed on Friday night. I'll be honest, this video might be kind of boring if you're not one of his parents. But if you make it to the end, Jack has

Triple the fun
2008-02-24 17:40:00
I took some pictures of the Hammond triplets last week. Despite my poor composition, lack of experience and trouble with my autofocus, there were a few that turned out to be good. But with kids this cute anyone is sure to get a few good shots! You can see them all here.

The new coat
2008-02-23 19:20:00
Of course his winter coat couldn't last him all winter. That would have been too easy. Luckily, we found this coat from Baby Gap for only $15.00! You may say it looks too big for him. I say it looks like he won't outgrow it in two weeks. Shoot, if this kid had more hair, he could give those Baby Gap models a run for their money!

My life is good . . .
2008-02-23 17:23:00
A few highlights from my day: Our lodge guests at camp calling at 5:30 AM to let us know they were out of coffee. If I had answered the phone, I think I would have said something like, "You don't need coffee at 5:30 AM. Go back to bed." But Kyle answered and responded more graciously than I would have. He got dressed, hopped in the car and drove to camp to get them coffee. These are the same

Wax on, wax off
2008-02-22 20:58:00
I watched The Karate Kid for the first time last weekend and I kid you not . . . it was awful. My husband thinks it's the greatest movie ever made, and I had to keep myself from audibly booing and hissing. Bad acting? Check. Horrible script? Check. Lame soundtrack? Double check. I think maybe it's because I waited until I was 29 to see it for the first time, but honestly, I don't see what

Kyle and I invented our new favorite sandwich. Here's what we did: We marinated chicken breasts in teryaki sauce for about 4 hours. Then, we threw the chicken and pineapple rings on the grill in 20 degree weather (the frigid temperatures are not required). We melted swiss cheese on the chicken at the end of the grilling time.We threw the chicken and pineapple on buns with a little Miracle Whip and

Deadlines
2008-02-18 18:40:00
I'm feverishly working on my thesis so I can meet my first March deadline. Pray that I'll be able to focus and not find a bajillion other important things that I'd rather be doing. Also, I'm experiencing a lot of frustration because of some things that have come up as a result of my research and I'm trying to deal with that without turning into a whiny four-year-old. I know . . . that last

Be mine. XOXO
2008-02-13 21:50:00
When I was a kid, Valentine's Day was an actual holiday. I mean, we ate candy, had a party at school, people exchanged cards and I usually got a small gift from my mom and dad. I've created oodles of photo Valentine's Day cards for kids to take to school this year and it's reminded me of the Valentine's card boxes that we used to make. Do you remember the boxes that I'm talking about? The

The newest character on Heroes?
2008-03-11 14:36:00
Phil just posted something about this news story on his blog. It's about a boy who has some sort of body chemistry that causes computers and other electronics to crash. How annoying would that be? He could be a character from Heroes. Anyway, it got me thinking . . . What if I couldn't use a computer? What if I had no access to the Internet or e-mail? My life would be completely different

She needs a name
2008-03-10 20:26:00
Now that it stays light out for longer we've finally been able to figure out what Murphy barks at incessantly in the evenings. This lady's been bedding down under a tree in our back yard every night. Can you see her? How about now? Any suggestions for what I can name her?

Plagiarism in Blogland?
2008-03-10 10:56:00
I like blogs. I am so comforted to know that there are people out there who think like I do. I'm challenged by people who think differently than I do. I like seeing the parts of people's lives that they don't mind putting out there for everyone to see. When I can't sleep, sometimes I'll just blog hop and see who I'll discover. Sometimes I find old friends. Sometimes I find complete

Soda free since . . . March 11, 2008.
2008-03-10 09:04:00
Have I mentioned that I had soda last week? I hadn't had any since December 30 and I was hoping to go the entire year. But my long drive home in the blizzard at night on Tuesday warranted some caffeinated goodness to keep me alert. Too bad it didn't keep me alert enough to pay attention to where my blackberry was. By the way, I went back to the exit where I lost the blasted thing and was not

God's gracious gift
2008-03-09 21:47:00
Jack was baptized today. I love infant dedications and baptisms at any church, but especially our church (I'm probably a little biased). I don't know if they do it anymore, but one thing that I loved when I attended the Greenville FMC was that they talked about what the child's name meant and how that might relate to their faith. "Jack" means "the Lord is gracious" or "God's gracious gift."
