Look, mom! No hands!
2008-03-08 14:19:00
Moments before I grabbed my camera to snap this picture, Jack was standing at the window . . . with his hands folded. He wasn't holding on to anything. I was stunned for a moment and when I grabbed my camera, I startled him and he fell. Someone once asked me how we got Jack to start crawling and standing. I told her that we do what the parents of every 9-month old do: Protein shake for

Sigh.

Bloggers all over the world wide web are talking about spring and how lovely it is. Around this time last year, Pastor Mark said something in church that made me laugh. He said that you never hear about anyone complaining about spring . . . no one ever complains that it's just like last year's spring. He's right. You never hear anyone saything things like, "I'm totally bummed that spring is

One small step for Jack . . . and a much bigger deal for his parents
2008-03-12 21:37:00
Below you can watch my baby's first few steps. They aren't huge, and there aren't many, but they still sent me into a panic about what kind of food we'll serve at his high school graduation party. Later, when he was over looking out the window, he walked from the window sill to the chair and then from the chair he took about four steps in a row to Kyle. Our world is about to change . .

My Kind of City
2008-03-17 21:41:00
Besides a free place to stay, one reason I like having a sister who lives in the city is that she knows all of the good places to eat. In case I haven't mentioned this in a previous post, I like to eat. Of course, we like the more well-known restaurants, too. We went to our usual breakfast destination, Ann Sather, for breakfast on Saturday morning and managed to hit the el while the parade

Enough is enough.
2008-03-21 18:24:00
I should have know that if I wrote about spring's arrival, winter would come back to bite us in the tail. It started snowing at noon and hasn't stopped. We're expected to get 8 inches or so. In college, my friends would refer to Michigan as a frozen wasteland. I'm forced to agree. At least someone's enjoying it.

Older than he looks
2008-03-20 20:52:00
When we go out, people always think Jack is older than he is. I actually think that this happens to a lot of kids because hostesses don't understand that nine month old children don't yet know how to stay in the lines. So, at our most recent restaurant visit, we decided to let the waitress give him the crayons to see what he would do. Yep. That's what we thought.

Oh, Chicago.
2008-03-19 20:04:00
The highlights of our weekend with my sister. We walked in the door to Karina's apartment and within 20 seconds (no exaggeration) the people below her are banging on their ceiling/her floor. I guess we were disturbing them with our walking. We were trying to be as quiet as possible because Jack was sleeping. The irony lies in the fact that in the last five years, Kyle and I have called the

May you be a 'yes' . . .
2008-03-23 08:40:00
"May you be a 'yes' to the question, 'Has Jesus risen from the dead?' And may you come to see - may you understand that you are the good news. You are the gospel." -Rob Bell, Nooma, You, 015 Happy Easter!

The first of many . . .
2008-03-22 22:21:00
I made up an Easter basket for Jack. He's not quite old enough to understand it, but I had some things we bought for him anyway and thought it might be fun to put them all in a basket and call it a gift. Kind of like we did for Christmas. In it, we put a train set from IKEA, some snack items that he likes, two shirts, some stuffed animals (also from IKEA), and a stuffed carrot that I bought

Believe it or not, I didn't mess with the color on this photo at all. This is what your Easter eggs look like when you're trying to do too many things at once and end up leaving them in the dye a bit too long. Next year, my eggs are going to look like this.

Walk this way
2008-03-24 20:55:00
On Sunday, we went to my parents' church. A few people asked if Jack was walking and I said, "Well, he's taken a few steps, but he's not quite walking yet." I kind of feel like Jack must have looked at me at that moment and thought to himself, "Challenge accepted." All day at my parents, he'd cruise around and then take a few steps to anyone who had their hands out. My sister and brother made

In the spirit of full disclosure, I feel that I should confess that I have been drinking soda regularly. It seems that it's even harder to break the habit the second time around. The camp hosts a Easter egg hunt sponsored by the fire department on the Saturday before Easter every year. It started snowing at around 2 PM on Friday and didn't stop until 8 AM on Saturday. We got 10 inches of snow

What I should be doing.
2008-03-27 20:14:00
My friend Sarah (here's where I'd link to her blog if it wasn't set as PRIVATE) just posted a video about how to fold a t-shirt in 2 seconds. So, in lieu of actually folding the piles of clean laundry in on my bed, I decided to instead post a video about folding clothes. Because this takes less effort. Also, I'm pretty sure she's talking with a fake British accent. What do you think?

3 - 5 inches tonight

Sometimes, I wonder if God is up there thinking Himself, "I promised not to send anymore floods to destroy the earth . . . but I said absolutely nothing about not burying Michigan in snow."

The daily click!

I made the daily click at Shutter Sisters. Maybe some people do that all the time, but it's my first time. Yay for me. :)

We're hosting our annual "Crop 'Til You Drop" scrapbooking weekend at camp this weekend. I'm hosting the weekend but I don't scrapbook, though I do love to walk around and see what they create. I am AMAZED at how much stuff that these ladies bring with them to these weekends. It must take them days to pack the car. Since I have to be here, but I don't scrapbook, I'm left with a lot of time

A note about my deals below . . .
2008-04-03 10:29:00
Well, I’ve had quite the morning! I went into town to pick up a few things I needed and I was armed with my Excedrin coupons. I know that people have used them successfully at the Airport Road Meijer, but they were out of Excedrin. So on my way home, I hit the East Jackson Meijer. When it was my turn to be rung up, the cashier looked at the coupons and said that he had to call a manager for

Why pay full price?
2008-04-03 07:16:00
I've been trying to post the best of the best easy deals I get here. There are a lot of them and there are some great ones that require a lot of coupon clipping and several purchases, but I don't want to make grocery shopping stressful! I didn't get a chance to post any deals last week. I'm sorry about that because I got 6 bags of Dove caramel and almond chocolate for FREE and 6 bags of Chex

A little bit of this . . .
2008-04-02 20:37:00
I'm sort of stuck between the stress that I feel because the upcoming summer and the total relaxation that I often fall into when I feel the warm temperatures. Therefore, my temperament tonight is mildly bipolar. I'll bet you didn't know that two months from today, Jack will turn one year old AND we'll be in our first full day of staff training. The summer is coming so quickly and I feel way

Dear Jack, Month 10
2008-04-06 19:43:00
Dear Jack, I am stunned at your capacity for showing love and compassion at only 10 months old. I didn’t realize until now that children your age were capable of demonstrating these qualities. I'm not sure why that's such a surprise to me . . . you've been created in God's image and you are able to reflect His qualities just like the rest of us. Your mild temperament and sweet disposition

A day in the park
2008-04-06 08:29:00
Jack was in the office with us on Thursday and he kept staring out Kyle's window. His window overlooks the "tot lot" playground. We decided Jack was trying to communicate his desire to go out and play, so we did just that! You can see all of the pictures we took here.

Fact:
2008-04-05 16:43:00
When you're pushing a stroller and you look down to see your baby standing up in the stroller staring back at you, it's time to start strapping him in. How on earth did he do that without me even noticing?!

Emma @ 6 months
2008-04-04 16:32:00
My, how times flies. My niece Emma is 6 months old and it's hard to believe how fast the days have gone. Remember when she was new in the world? I took some pictures of her on Wednesday. I really like the way they turned out with two exceptions. First, the ISO on my camera was set at 800. I have no idea why. I have never set the ISO to 800 in my life. I only checked it after the fact

All this for a team that is 0-6
2008-04-07 09:22:00
Jack and I were out all day Saturday. "All day" is defined as 9:30 AM until 5 PM. He didn't fuss once. In fact, he's even got a bit of a cold and he was still happy the entire day. I am the luckiest mom in the world. We went to Lansing in order to find ONE THING. I knew I'd be buying Jack some summer clothes too, but there was ONE THING I was specifically looking for: A Detroit Tigers shirt

I could have told you this
2008-04-09 21:25:00
The University of Michigan could have saved themselves some research money on this study and just asked me. I've been saying it for five years now. It says that husbands create 7 extra hours of work for their wives each week. I'm not even sure how this happens, but it does. I know that Kyle doesn't try to create extra work, but I see it happen week after week. We've had numerous

The spread of spring
2008-04-08 21:14:00
It's been close to 70 degrees the past two days. Oh and, by the way, it's supposed to snow this weekend. Mother Nature is a bit of a tease.
