2007 NFL Draft Prospects from the Dakotas
2007-02-06 19:04:00
2007-nfl-draftWR Dusty Hovorka, 6' 1" 207 lbs. Sioux Falls, SD (NAIA)This senior wide receiver from McCook Lake, S.D. earned his third consecutive All-American selection. Hovorka tallied 76 catches for 1,304 yards and 19 touchdowns. His 19 TDs on the season breaks the old mark of 17, held by current USF head coach, Kalen DeBoer. Hovorka was also recently named to the coaches' All-American team. Hovorka ends his career holding five of the nine USF receiving records, including career, season, and game records. He is also the only receiver in USF history to record 1,000 plus receiving yards as a freshman, sophomore, junior and a senior.WR Desmond Allison, 6' 4" 234 lbs. South DakotaVery inexperienced, but an interesting prospect for the 2007 NFL Draft . Allison played and started for the University of Kentucky basketball team prior to transferring to South Dakota, so you know he is a talented athlete. Can you say Antonio Gates, the great Charger receiver, well maybe that's a st

Small School All-Star Performances
2007-02-22 20:34:00
Here are some notable small school players that were invited and/ or played in recent College All-Star games. This list is not all inclusive so don't be offended if I left someone out.Cactus Bowl (DII)http://www.cactusbowl.org/The Cactus Bowl was postponed this year, but hopefully will be back in 2008. Intra-Juice North-South All Star Classichttp://www.intajuiceallstars.com/2007 RosterThe Inta Juice North-South All-Star Classic was a brand new All Star Game this year and it was played on January 13th in Houston Texas at the Galena Park ISD Stadium. Georgetown College (NAIA) quarterback Jeff Smith really looked good in the game; he was 4 for 7 in the first half, including one touchdown. Smith is an interesting NFL Prospect in that he is 6-6 and 245 pounds. He had a great year at quarterback for tiny Georgetown College throwing for 2,367 yards and 21 touchdowns, which ranked him 11th in the NAIA. Dylan Lineberry is a 6-3 310 pound offensive guard from North Texas, and was a man amo

Small School Prospects at the 2007 NFL Combine
2007-03-01 19:15:00
Small School NFL Draft Prospects at the 2007 NFL Combine :Laurent Robinson, Wide Receiver, Illinois State2007 NFL DraftAfter watching the NFL combine and going over all the numbers, I can safely say that the small school prospects held up very well against the big boys, posting some of the best numbers at their respective position in the entire combine. Especially the tight ends, where as many as five could be at least role players in the NFL next year. Since Tight End is the top small school position this year; that is where I will start.Kevin Boss from Western Oregon jumped to the front of the tight end class with a scintillating combine performance. Boss weighed in at 6’ 6” 252 pounds and ran a 4.78 second forty yard dash, which in itself isn’t great, but if you look closer at his agility scores, he was awesome indeed. Boss had the top 3-cone time of 6.96 seconds, a 4.41 second 20 yard shuttle run, a 11.81 second 60 yard shuttle run, and a 9’ 8” broad jump. Michael Allan fr

Small School Risers for the 2007 NFL Draft
2007-03-17 16:24:00
The 2007 NFL Scouting Combine is in the bank and the Pro Day workouts are starting to come in, so we are seeing some movement on the draft boards from some of the elite small school prospects. Here is a brief rundown on a few of the small school prospects that are seeing considerable improvement in their 2007 NFL Draft Grade.Jacoby Jones, Lane CollegeWR Jacoby Jones from Tiny Lane College (Division II) has had quite the post season ride. Jones was invited and played in the prestigious East-West Shrine game where he looked outstanding catching 4 passes for 57 yards. He then moved on to the 2007 NFL Scouting combine where he measured in at 6’ 2.5” 210 pounds. At the combine he looked very good running routes and catching the ball, he ran a 4.53 second 40 yard dash, a 7.06 second time in the 3-cone drill, and had a spectacular broad jump of 10’ 9”. Jones kept his nose to the grind stone training twice a day and on March 5th at Lane’s Pro Day he improved his speed. He gained 4 po

Small School Running backs for the 2008 NFL Draft
2007-06-25 13:58:00
It’s been a while since I posted here in this Small School NFL Draft Blog. I have been busy working on my NFL Draft Web site and my NFL Draft Blog, but the 2007 football season is almost upon us and I will have to step up my game. We can’t ignore the small school prospects now can we? I will be covering a new position each week or two, starting with the running backs. On a side note, Division 1AA is now officially called the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), but I am going to keep referring to it as the 1AA.Calvin Dawson, 5’ 10” 207 lbs, Louisiana MonroeYes the Sun Belt Conference is still Division 1, but Louisiana-Monroe (ULM) is still considered a small school program, at least in my eyes. However running back Calvin Dawson should be considered a big time talent. Last year ULM had a prospect invited to the NFL Scouting Combine, Safety Kevin Payne, and he was subsequently drafted in the 2007 NFL Draft in the 5th round by the Chicago Bears. This year they have Dawson, as

Spotlight on Safety Corey Lynch
2007-08-11 07:23:00
One of the best small school prospect in college football is Appalachian State All American Corey Lynch . He is bar none the best free safety in the D-1 Championship series (1AA), and ranks among the best in all of college football. Lynch has been among the best at every level he has played. In high school, he was named best defensive player in SW Florida (31 career interceptions). He has been a college stand out from the day he turned down a walk-on invitation from University of Florida, for a full ride scholarship to Appalachian State. Lynch is no slouch in the class room either with a double major in Physics and 3.0 GPA.Major Accolades: * Started free safety (10 games) as Freshman (2003)* Only Freshman named to the all Southern Conference team* Six interceptions as a Freshman (2003)* Thirteen interceptions by the end his Sophomore year* One National Championship in 2005* 2005 all American team* Eighteen interceptions (18) totaled by Junior year* 2006 all American team* Helped Appalac
