Rising 2008-03-04 11:51:26 RisingWatercolor on Saint-Armand watercolor paper16 x 22", US$ 295 + USPS Priority ShippingThis is a large watercolor made for an upcoming show. I thought you'd like to see the end result of this particular series of variations. The white value issues in photographs drive me crazy. I have gone larger over the past year but this is going to be my maximum occasional large watercolor size. I've recently ventured into other ways of expanding my reach. If you're interested in purchasing this, you can email me. It will be available at end of April.Read about the Encyclopedia of Life today on My Great Day, then see a copy I made of a Eugène Boudin landscape.

Laden with Gold 2008-03-03 10:58:05 Laden with Gold Watercolor on Saint-Armand watercolor paper 4 x 6", archival mat & backing to 8 x 10" US$ 80 + USPS Priority Shipping Choose shipping US International I've laced some Daniel Smith metallic watercolor throughout this. It doesn't really show up in the scan, nor would it very well in a photo. I've added bits of this in a few pieces early on. Sometimes it works very well. Here it really adds a weight to to the look, hence, the title. And the metaphor, eh? In the late 80's I made a series of large pieces on hand made rice paper with iridescent and opalescent paint and metallic markers. The pieces changed dramatically as they were viewed from different angles. There's a pencil copy of a Léon Bonnat landscape at Studies and Ske

If you followed the tail end of my watercolor studies you couldn't help but notice the theme of the path, or the way. This week I am working from a pen and ink form that I particularly liked and posted a while back on Studies and Sketches. A surprise at Studies and Sketches today and you can meet some new friends at My Great Day.

Frankly, I think that's plenty! I am currently working on some larger pieces and want to spend time developing some themes. I'm also working on some writing projects and, beautiful and wonderful though it may be, I have to get out of this studio more! Another project underway is my Squidoo lens, also titled Landscape into Art. It's still under construction but you can go read what I have so far. I'll be changing my posting schedule at Studies and Sketches, but for the next few weeks, those daily posts will continue. Fin

Watercolor on hot press Lana paper 4 x 6", archival mat & backing to 8 x 10" US$ 85 + USPS Priority Shipping Choose shipping US International I seem to be working in mini series of three for the most part with transitional pieces in between. It's mid-February and if you've been following along, you may have noticed that I had the deep winter blues big time and could hardly stand it. Wait a minute, I thought, I have the perfect tools to rescue myself. So I put my darkness down in paint on paper and this week you will see what I came up with. Exhibit A. I have never qualified any posted image with a comment on quality but I have to say that this piece — especially the blues and bits of yellow — is considerably more "jewel-like" than shows up on screen.
