Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany - Bavaria 2007-12-19 04:10:00 The pictures ENLARGE if you click on them.Rothenburg ob der Tauber is a well-preserved medieval walled town. The name Rothenburg ob der Tauber is a shortened version of Rothenburg oberhalb der Tauber that means Rothenburg over the Tauber. That is because the town is located on top of a mount overlooking the Tauber river. The name Rothenburg comes from the German words Rot (Red) and Burg (burg, medieval fortified town), referring to the red colour of the roofs of the houses which overlook the river. Rothenburg is the inspiration for the village in Walt Disney's story of Pinocchio. Most of the surviving buildings in Rothenburg were built in the 1400's.View of the skyline of Rothenburg. Upper Geyser Basin - Yellowstone National Park 2007-12-15 14:03:00 Catherine and I walked through the Upper
Geyser Basin
by walking along the boardwalks and paved trails in this area. The hike is between two and four miles long depending on which trails you follow. The Upper Geyser Basin contains twenty percent of the world's geysers, the largest concentration on earth. The one square mile basin has several groups of hot springs and over 150 geysers, including Old Faithful. In the background of this photo you can see the Old Faithful Inn. Catherine and I stayed here while we visited the Old Faithful area of Yellowstone National
Park. Along the rim of the caldera in Yellowstone is the Upper Geyser Basin, which has the highest concentration of geothermal features in the park. This area includes the Old Faithful Geyser, as well as four other predictable large geysers. One of these large geysers in the area is Castle Geyser which is about 1400 feet northwest of Old Faithful. Castle Geyser has an interval of approximately 13 hours between major eruptions,
Grizzly Bear - Yellowstone National Park 2007-12-14 22:14:00 When Catherine and I were in Yellowstone National

As early as 1807, Benjamin Latrobe, the principal architect of the Capitol, sought to improve the building by preparing designs for pavilions at either end (added that year in collaboration with Thomas Jefferson), for interior alterations, and
Old Faithful Geyser - Yellowstone National Park 2007-12-12 22:07:00 Old Faithful
is a cone geyser located in Yellowstone National
Park. An eruption can shoot 3,700 to 8,400 gallons of boiling water to a height of 106-184 feet lasting from 1.5 to 5 minutes. The average height of an eruption is 145 feet. Eruptions often occur about 90 minutes apart, but this interval can range from 45 to 125 minutes on occasion. Over the years, the length of the interval has increased, which may be the result of earthquakes affecting subterranean water levels. These disruptions have made the earlier mathematical relationship inaccurate, but have in fact made Old Faithful more predictable. With an error of 10 minutes, Old Faithful will erupt 65 minutes after an eruption lasting less than 2.5 minutes or 92 minutes after an eruption lasting more than 2.5 minutes. The reliability of Old Faithful can be attributed to the fact that it is not connected to any other thermal features of the Upper Geyser Basin.Pictures enlarge if you click on them. When Catherine and I visited
