PUCCI WATCH: Lou Taylor Pucci's Fifty Pills
2007-12-11 21:28:45
Young and talented, Lou Taylor -Pucci (http://themovie-fanatic.com/lou_taylorpucci.htm) continues to amaze and amass an audience. He stars in a number of amazing movies, and just like fellow actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt, this young indie star gets better and better. It would be awesome to see him in more funny and serious films. Says Pucci about acting: I have always, always, always been really into experiencing things and not teaching somebody, because I can’t be taught. I tried to go to acting lessons and stuff like that and it doesn’t work for me. Some people can, some people are awesome with it… but I mean I could never go to college for acting or something like that. I would hate it. I would completely be uninterested and I’d never act again. That’s how I did theater. I just did it. I just randomly did it one day. My parents made me audition for a community theater and I did that for like a year and a half, but it was just that experience of doing it f

Here are some of them: From Romania and the recent big winner at Cannes. What's the Movie About: Screen realism rarely achieves such a vivid texture of a country and a time as this excruciatingly tense drama, the Palme d'Or winner at Cannes this year, about two young women living in an all-female dorm in 1980s Romania. The story takes place over one long night. Vague Gabita is pregnant and wants an illegal termination, but she has been dilatory about arrangements with

100 SEXIEST MOVIE STARS: The 'Empire' strikes a goldmine of protests!
2007-12-07 19:44:19
What a shocker! I went to see the top 100 sexiest stars from Empire Online only to find some of the really really sexy stars languishing in the bottom 50! Monica Belllucci is not in the top 10??? Gael Garcia Bernal, Cillian Murphy, Heath Ledger??? The List: Angelina Jolie (http://www.empireonline.com/100sexiest/default.asp?star=1) takes the number 1 spot as the sexiest star in Empire's latest list. But we're more interested in seeing Natalie Portman (http://www.empireonline.com/100sexiest/default.asp?star=2) at no.2! One of the most talented young actresses today, Portman has both substance and form, talent and charm. - - - - - - Says Empire: Sexy, but in a ladylike ‘doesn’t flash her gusset at the paparazzi’ way, Portman is the pin-up for those who like their women as smart as they are slinky. Plus, she’s beautiful enough to make even baldness hot in V For Vendetta. Sexiest Moment : There’s no denying the appeal of pole dancing in Closer. But the m

MAKING WAVES: Why we love Ben Whishaw
2007-12-21 20:56:47
I've been out to LA a couple of times but, over there, the Grenouille in me always comes to the surface. I feel completely terrified, totally flummoxed, like I don't understand what the hell is going on. I've no desire at all to go back there. says the acclaimed British actor Ben Whishaw. While many actors would do anything to become a Hollywood star, here we have someone who is, at most, reluctant to even go to Hollywood! - - - - - - His role in I'm Not There (http://themovie-fanatic.com/im_not_there.htm) is so small, many of his fans (myself included) were simply disappointed. After playing the lead in Perfume, we expected to see him doing more challenging roles. Perhaps we'll get that satisfaction in 2 of his upcoming films: Brideshead Revisited (http://themovie-fanatic.com/brideshead_revisited.htm) and Bright Star (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0810784/). Oh and he got another film coming up: The Restraint of Beasts (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0800177/)!

REALLY??? IndieWire releases Critics Poll
2007-12-21 17:30:38
Says IndieWire: A total of 106 leading North American film critics participated in the second indieWIRE Critics' Poll, surveying the best in film for 2007. Voting was conducted in nine categories during the first half of December. This poll was created to continue the tradition of a national survey of critics, by calling attention to the year's best -- and, in many cases, most overlooked -- films, providing a meaningful counterpoint to much of the year-end hoopla. - - - - - - The top 20 films (http://www.indiewire.com/critics2007/#best_film), according to IndieWire: 1. There Will Be Blood 2. Zodiac 3. No Country for Old Men 4. Syndromes and a Century 5. 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days 6. I’m Not There 7. The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford 8. Colossal Youth 9. Killer of Sheep 10. Offside 11. Black Book 12. Once 13. The Diving Bell and the Butterfly 14. Eastern Promises 15. I Don’t Want to Sleep Alone 16. Regular Lovers 17. The Hos

MAKING WAVES:Khan Chittenden and WEST
2007-12-21 16:43:33
One of Australia's rising star, Khan Chittenden (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khan_Chittenden) in one of his most important films, WEST. - - - - - - What's the Movie About: Pete (Khan Chittenden) and Jerry (Nathan Phillips) are cousins and best friends, going nowhere in the west of Sydney. They are unemployed and shiftless – bored, drunk and stoned most of the time. When Jerry gets a girlfriend and a job at a fast food chicken outlet, Pete moves from selling small amounts of marijuana to selling harder drugs, supplied by an older friend Steve (Tim McCunn). Jerry’s new girlfriend Cheryl (Gillian Alexy) responds to Pete’s obvious interest; they begin an affair behind Jerry’s back. All of them are now using Pete’s free drugs.

THE KITE RUNNER: Readers reacted negatively to NY Times review
2007-12-20 17:13:35
I always look forward to film review s at the New York Times (http://movies.nytimes.com/movie). Aside from the intelligent take on many recent movies, the film reviewers are excellent writers- not only are the articles insightful and informative, they are also entertaining and offer unique perspectives on how films were made, how the actors portrayed the roles and other technicalities I have yet to discover about movies. One of the most awaited film (in my list, anyway and I guess in many film lovers) is The Kite Runner (http://themovie-fanatic.com/kite_runner.htm) and I absolutely looked forward to seeing the review at the NY Times. To my big disappointment, the reviewer Ms. Darghis failed to impress. In both novel and film form, “The Kite Runner” recounts a simple yet shrewd story about that favorite American pastime: self-improvement. Amir’s childhood mistake isn’t a careless juvenile offense; it’s a human stain that must be scrubbed out through self-a

CASHBACK: Naked girls, Sean Biggerstaff and why Sean Ellis is one hell of a filmmaker
2007-12-19 22:40:36
Cashback (http://www.cashbackthemovie.com/) is so cool, so visually appealing and so damn good, I can still remember many of the scenes until now. It's been more than a week since I watched it. - - - - - - Says Ellis : I think I was always a frustrated filmmaker who worked in the medium of photography… I think these days it’s become easier to become a filmmaker because with the invention of high def or home video or DV cameras. If you’ve got an idea for a story, you can pretty much go and shoot it. Whereas fifteen or twenty years ago people weren’t into looking at home video films. I have the same feeling and gush of emotions when I watched Ditto Montiel (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1996918)'s 'A Guide to Recognizing your Saints' another awesome movie from another young filmmaker who really made waves with his film.

WHY DO WE LOVE SWEENEY TODD? Let me count the ways...
2007-12-25 21:36:25
- - - The dynamic duo of Tim Burton and Johnny Depp is simply...awesome! In their latest project, they succeeded in bringing to the screen the magic and the horror of The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. One film reviewer (http://www.firstshowing.net/2007/12/18/sweeney-todd-a-masterpiece-wrapped-in-death-and-covered-in-blood/) even went to the extreme and declared: Perhaps the greatest director and actor duo in film history, Burton and Depp again show us what can be achieved on the big screen. Even Time has this to say: Burton and Depp infuse the brilliant cold steel of Stephen Sondheim's score with a burning passion. Helena Bonham Carter and a superb supporting cast bring focused fury to this musical nightmare. It's bloody great. Says the Hollywood Reporter (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/film/reviews/article_display.jsp?rid=10285): The blood juxtaposed to the music is highly unsettling. It runs contrary to expectations. Burton pushes this gore into his audiences' faces

HUNTING AND GATHERING: Tautou and Canet teams up!
2007-12-25 21:11:30
Before starting on the script, I wanted Charlotte Gainsbourg to play the role, because I wanted to work with her again. As I said, life is all about chance. Shortly afterwards, I went to New York and Audrey Tautou , who I had never met, was on the plane sitting next to me. We got to know each other, but didn’t talk about the book. She already knew that Charlotte had the role. However, two or three weeks later, Audrey told her agent that if Charlotte could not do the film, she would like to play Camille. As she is a generous girl, she did not want to take the role from Charlotte. says director Claude Berri. - - - - - - The acclaimed French director is talking about how he cast French star Audrey Tautou ( A Very Long Engagement, Amelie) in the lead role for his new film, Hunting and Gathering (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0792965) (Ensemble, c’est tout). What's the Movie About: In mid-2004, Anna Gavalda’s best selling novel Hunting and gathering was brought to the at

PARIS, Romain Duris and Cédric Klapisch
2007-12-25 12:17:28
European cinema, more particularly French cinema boasts of the talented team of director Cédric Klapisch (http://www.cedric-klapisch.com/) and awesome actor Romain Duris (http://themovie-fanatic.com/romain_duris.htm). Duris, regarded as one of the most exciting and talented actors today, has been a regular in Klapisch film- playing the lead roles in both The Spanish Apartment (http://www.cedric-klapisch.com/index.php?page=aubergeespagnole lang=eng) and Russian Dolls (http://www.cedric-klapisch.com/index.php?page=lespoupeesrusses lang=eng)- two films highly successful at the box office. Now another collaboration. Says european-films.net: French director Cédric Klapisch wowed both French and international audiences with his quick-witted charmer L'auberge espagnole (The Spanish Apartment) from 2002, which introduced Romain Duris and Cécile de France to legions of new fans. The unsure student and his lesbian best friend returned for the sequel Les poupées ru

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
2007-12-23 06:29:47
Starring: Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Alan Rickman, Sacha Baron Cohen Director: Tim Burton Release Date: December 21, 2007 Running time: 117 min MPAA Rating: R Distributors: DreamWorks Pictures - - - Review by David DiMichele - - - The color red is the only element you'll find synonymous with Sweeney Todd and its Christmas holiday release date. Red as in the color of blood that squirts impressionistically out from the necks of the helpless victims by ways of Sweeney himself. Adapted from the Broadway musical hit that Stephen Sondheim made famous, it’s only fitting that Tim Burton, the most creative director we have today, is combined with this dark, romantic, comedic and yet terrifying script. He must’ve been licking his chops when he got his paws on Sondheim’s musical. Glad he did. The two go together perfectly. This isn’t like your stage version. Burton’s dark, creative, and comedic direction proves a perfect fit for Sondheim’s melo

Atonement
2007-12-23 06:21:30
Starring: James McAvoy, Keira Knightley Director: Joe Wright Release Date: December 7, 2007 Running time: 123 min MPAA Rating: R Distributors: Universal Pictures and Focus Features - - - Review by David DiMichele - - - “It’s like something out of Heaven.” -soldier The quote is referring to a scene of an Army base which is made up of thousands of soldiers, both wounded and healthy, and huge boats stationed on the ocean front of France. A soldier expresses his feelings and this quote emphasizes his comfort because he and two others have been walking clueless by themselves during WWII after being split up from their brigade. We eventually find ourselves uttering this quote during this scene because sophomore director Joe Wright (first film Pride and Prejudice) captures it as if it’s gold, and that’s exactly what it turns out to be. For a solid 5-7 minutes the camera gives us, the audience, a first person point-of-view of the base. As if we’re o
