DO SOMETHING BESIDES WHINING !!! 1970-01-01 00:59:59 I don't know just exactly where this blog will go from this point, but I feel a need to kick the collective in the butt to wake them up. I may fall flat on my face as I have found that most people are very good at complaining but woefully short of doing. Such is the American way.Over the last several years I have sat by and listened to friends and acquaintances bitch and moan about the state of affairs in Washington, and in my case, Austin. Those mangy politicians are tearing the country down and giving it away. Those scurvy scoundrels are taking away all our rights (both real and imagined). The democrats are socialists and the republicans are fascists. We need to get rid of them and get something better.....and so on....endlessly. We are quick to bemoan the state of affairs and slow as a lava flow to get off our backsides and actually get involved.Last presidential election, Bush was elected by about one-quarter of the eligible voters. ONE BLOODY QUARTER! Most voters sat at home and
Bush the Republican? The Democrat? The (GASP) Communist? 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Well shucks. It just gets better and better. I can't seem to stay on my projected course for this blog. Stuff keeps happening that I feel compelled to comment on.Mr Bush once again defies labeling. It should be obvious he is Republican
, he supports big business interests over the welfare of the citizenry. But he ignores the immigration problems in the hopes of currying favor with the largely Democrat
ic Hispanic voter block. Of course big business also likes the cheap labor pool. And then there is the third possibility. He seeks another example of redistribution of wealth, much as any good socialist or even communist would do. Case in point:Mr Bush, in his compassion for the poor, would have everyone who has company provided health insurance taxed to pay for insurance for those who do not have such. If your health care benefit exceeds 15,000 dollars a year (for a family), or 7,500 dollars (for an individual), you would be taxed (as regular income) on the surplus. This new tax money wou Read more:Communist
They're at it Again !! 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Well my plans have gone off course somewhat. Recent events in Congress have performed a blitzkrieg on my sense of organization. I had planned to discuss the recently passed House Resolution 1, but other sinister plots are afoot.Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) has reintroduced an onerous and sneaky bill that will address "hate crime" or at least her take on such things. The bill as she introduced it allows for additional punishment for crimes "motivated by the actual or perceived race, color, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender, or disability of the victim." Ms Lee is consistent if not wise. She has repeatedly introduced the same language since 1999. The attempts never went anywhere, but under the current liberal assault, it may very well be carried to term and born. It's bad enough that the federal government feels it has a right to regulate every scrap of our lives, but the potential for this bill extends beyond the obvious. This is nothing more than the camel's nose und Read more:Again
Fairness My ... uh... Whatever 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Well, I am going to put off discussion of HR1 yet again. The Democrats are at it again. They are incensed at the success of conservative talk radio. They blame it (rightly so) for all the ills that have befallen them since the days of Jimmy Carter. Now that they are in power, they are marching at warp speed to stifle free speech under the guise of "FAIRNESS". It seems that the nasty old radio stations only present the "conservative" side of the issues. Well, yes. And their point is? They feel this is wrong. "Progressives" (translation: liberals, leftists, etc) are being denied the chance to prattle on about their position on any given issue. Well, actually this is not entirely correct. Liberals don't discuss issues. They rant and throw temper tantrums and sling mud. Now they want to pass legislation that will codify the mistakes of the past. The FCC enforced a fairness doctrine until President Reagan saw the light and revoked the joke. From that point on talk radio took a decidedly co
The Minimum Wage Hype....... 1970-01-01 00:59:59 The Washington Post reports that Teddy Boy Kennedy pitched a fit on the floor of the Senate last week. He is miffed with the Republicans for insisting on a tax break for small businesses before signing off on a minimum wage hike. In the middle of his Teddy-Tantrum he ranted, "How many billions of dollars do we have to give you Mr Republican? How many more dollars do we have to give you to get an increase in the minimum wage? It is shocking. It is disgraceful." No Mr Kennedy ( I refuse to dignify him with the title of Senator), what is shocking and disgraceful is that you are allowed to be on the floor of the Senate. It is appalling that an alcoholic unconvicted murderer can even be in the Senate in the first place. That said, let's look at both sides of this ill-conceived bit of trash masquerading as legislation. First, the minimum wage hike. Raising the minimum wage from 5.15 to 7.25 an hour represents about a 41% increase. This also represents a 41% increase in labor costs for an e Read more:Minimum
Ron Paul for President 2008 1970-01-01 00:59:59 Oh Joy! Oh Rapture!Ron Paul
has authorized an exploratory committee to look at his chances for a presidential run in 2008. Nothing could cheer me more.It is almost an impossibility for a third party to field a viable candidate, especially if they are a strict constitutionalist. Ron Paul overcomes most of the problems as he is far from being an unknown. Dr. Pauls dedication to the rule of constitutional law and voting his oath is rare indeed. Most congressional types take the oath to uphold the Constitution and then a few days later they resume tearing down the rule of law it represents. There is no shortage of articles and speeches that show where Dr. Paul stands on just about any issue. It quickly becomes obvious that he doesn't care for the current state of affairs in Washington. Putting Ron Paul in the Whitehouse will be a giant step on the road to restoring the great Constitutional Republic we were gifted with over 200 years ago. It would also serve as a warning to the denizens of Read more:President
