Game Reviews and the Rating system
2007-12-10 17:04:02
A long time ago, Tim over at the JCG posted a small rant about scoring game reviews. And he mentioned my system of rating games by measuring up their positives, and their negatives and anything above zero is worth a look at. So, I thought I’d explain it a little more. My system of reviewing is in fact particularly subjective — I see things from a more developer point of view and am critical of small details even. I point out glitches, I point out the bad in what could be a masterpiece. Which is not necessarily a good thing. But I thought I’d have a go at ranting about my review format anyway. (more…)

O-oh I, I will surviii-ive!
2007-12-10 14:39:28
So yeah, I survived my first day at my new job — exciting stuff. I found myself pretty tired out from the first day — probably had a lot to do with learning heaps of stuff and going to meetings. In other news, I’ve nearly finished Twilight Princess and Tales of Symphonia looks like it’ll last me another week — the xbox 360 games have been kind of sitting there the last couple of days. Assassin’s Creed is about to be finished though and Unreal Tournament 3’s single player campaign can’t be that big right? Mmm, looks like I’ll be adding a few badges over the next couple of weeks to the Game On! page. I’m bringing my own keyboard and mouse into work today too — an old apple mac keyboard I’ve got and a Microsoft laser mouse funnily enough haha. I did want to bring in my ergonomic keyboard to work but I think I might buy a new one for that.

Gears of Clockage
2007-12-10 05:01:12
I came across this fantastic clock that was made of gears and purely mechanical instead of the pseudo-digital stuff we have today. It’s nothing special in terms of the ability to keep time — it does it just as well as the seiko watch on my wrist right now…. What is cool is the visible gears and cogs that churn and tick, and click, and whirl to keep that those hands moving, and marking the passage of time. It is quite awesome — and getting one for Christmas would be pretty darn cool.

Twilight Symphonia confuzzlement
2007-12-08 17:50:49
I’ve been spending some time on Twilight Princess and Tales of Symphonia on the Gamecube — which would explain my absence from WoW and TF2 and Fury… Interestingly, I find both games to be damn good. I’ll talk more about them later — there’s a world to save But they are both extremely competent rehashes of classic RPG storylines that have executed them well and in a fun manner that has kept me coming back for more constantly so far.

End Game
2007-12-07 07:11:15
Well, the Jaded Corporate Gamer made his post with this title already — but instead I thought I’d focus on what this is. As you all know, recently the addition of the ‘Game On!‘ page has been occupying my attention for some time now. I’ve decided to add ‘End Game’ pages for each Badge I put in the Completed Games section. What this End Game page does is provide a space for me to put some final thoughts or comments about the game that I’ve completed. So people can see what to expect, or how fun a game could be, or just see the mad ramblings of a compulsive gamer. You can access these End Game pages by simply clicking on the appropriate game’s badge in the ‘Game On!‘ page.

Crysis Averted!
2007-12-06 18:00:00
So yeah, cheesy title aside, I finished Crysis this morning after about 11 hours of play-time. I have to say, I hated the start. I hated the alien caverns. But, having never finished far cry, I promised myself I’d at least finish Crysis. So I soldiered on (hehe) and I have to say, after you get out of the alien caverns, the game will only last you maybe 2 hours, but I’ll be damned if it’s not f*cking awesome. I absolutely loved the last part of Crysis. It actually felt like a … crisis… Okay okay I’m sorry I can’t help it, the word play is so tempting. Anyway, as I was saying — it was an awesome final 2 hours for me this time. I loved it, and I think, I could consider it the redeemed just by that play experience. You really felt it was an epic thing towards the end. What did shit me off was the ending and clearly Crytek got lazy and just ended it. Maybe they’re making room for an expansion pack? Who knows. I fucking hate the jungle

Games Games Games!
2007-12-04 06:55:42
I’ve finished a bunch of games on my hand-helds (the psp and ds lite) — which I’m now going to be adding to the Game On! page. The list consists of: [ ds ] Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin [ ds ] Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow [ ds ] Sonic Rush [ psp ] LocoRoco [ psp ] Mega Man: Powered Up On another note, my xbox 360 upgraded itself which was fantastic. It means I don’t need to convert a lot of my anime episodes into .wmv although there are still some of those that need to be done

How do you organize your music?
2007-12-01 21:11:13
Over the years, I’ve slowly built up a modestly sized collection of music. It’s not the most expansive collection, but when one goes through the folders, one cannot help but notice it is a bunch of shit all over the place. Chill and Acid Jazz are in the same folder as Rock and Metal. House is up there with Classical, and heaven forbid that R&B is in the old Church Music folder So basically, I’m in need of a way to organize the music as per my tastes and needs neatly so that I can put it on my Xbox 360 instead of having a steaming pile of crap that just destroys the whole ‘media experience’. That, and I’m in a spring cleaning mood — I’ve been deleting shit off some of my old folders; the question is, why? Well, in case some fantastic crap happens with a kid kicking over my PC. I have my hard drives back, and I’m immediately sorting out my files so that I can back them all up to static mediums like CDs and DVDs. I’ll be do

Xbox as a media centre? NO WAI!
2007-12-01 20:11:42
Recently, the viability of my xbox replacing the gigantor pc I’ve got for my media centre has become ridiculously awesomely viable. Mainly due to the existence of an epic network cable that is 50 metres long! (It has a lot of stuff and corners to weave around, so it needed to be very long). So I went about looking through my media to share and to my horror I couldn’t find anything about playing mp3s and xvid on my xbox 360 (legitimately) — so what happened? It only supports (shitty) Microsoft Proprietary formats. “fair go…I’ll give it a whirl; a fair compromise for size and convenience.” I think. So ladies and gents, I’ve just spent the better part of an hour finding an acceptable converter etc. and I still haven’t. I think I’ll make an article when I do find these things…

you wha?
2007-12-01 08:14:02
I’ve added the ‘Game On!’ page to my blog — this page basically documents games I’ve completed, and games I’m currently playing. It’s kind of like Tim’s side columns except I wanted to make something akin to Top Gear’s “Wall of Cool” except “Wall of Gamed!”. Hopefully my server won’t burn down like their headquarters did

Guess who’s back?
2007-12-21 08:02:31
THat’s right. I forgot to pay my hosting bill. That’s all done now. I am back. I am buzzed… Corporate Christmas Parties for the fucking win.

More games down.
2007-12-23 08:33:30
Recently I finished Assassin’s Creed after playing it almost religiously everyday (heh, sounds quite ironic given the game’s storyline — but no spoilers here). I also managed to get Unreal Tournament 3 and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles out of the way. I’ll update the Game On! page with the badges and End-Game comments when I get the opportunity. For now, I’m just going to update this blog. I’m a little tired — all that Christmas cheer. o/

This is a test to show wini how awesome wordpress is.

Gaem!
2008-01-27 03:40:15
holy crap, I’ve updated the Game On! page, and added some extra games to both the completed list and the stockpile waiting to be played (it’s growing! ) So, it looks like I’ve got some busy gaming sessions ahead of me, sadly, RL likes to get in the way hehe.

Mass(ive) Effect
2008-01-24 02:06:04
I contribute to a little project I launched with one of my colleagues here at the office called The Broken Joypad. A gamers’ ranting site of sorts (much like this blog! :D) I recently wrote a small rant (called an ‘EndGame’) about Mass Effect. Click here to read the End Game article for Mass Effect

in soviet russia, game plays you!
2008-01-21 06:23:50
one player kills another over a lineage II grudge in Russia — I think this is a prevailing issue with our current generation (my age, the younger ones, and maybe a couple of years older). People nowadays have an over-inflated sense of self-worth. I know I’m very much guilty of this, and they seem to be [...]

epic dancing win!
2008-01-15 04:55:27
Quite possible the most awesome dancing chick in the world – Song: Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger — Daft Punk And with a mushroom hat here that makes her look totally adorable… Song: Justice — Phantom Damn…she’s limber?

200 get!
2008-01-11 20:53:46
my site is borken. borken indeed. there’s a few errors that pop up with the ajax crap now and posting is a matter of retyping my url to get back to my blog after i click the ‘publish’ button. – this is the 200th post however and in the spirit of being bitter, I’ve decided to bitch about [...]

geeetar generation.
2008-01-09 04:47:26
THere’s a couple of things recently that kind of piss me off. The first is this appears to be a guitar based generation. Thanks to Guitar Hero, Rock Star etc. They’re completely fucking up natural order by making people think they can play guitar. Every single neighbour on all sides of my house now own guitars [...]

Gamers Inside Track @ SF:4 first look

1UP, EGM, and Gamevideos.com editors all met up to interview Ono (producer and project lead) for SF:IV (Street Fighter 4)

SF: IV — soooo goood…..
2008-01-05 21:17:27
I’ll let the videos do the talking, starting with the official trailer: To be honest, I like that SF has stuck to a ‘traditional’ approach, without adding in customization and random crap like tekken, doa, or even virtua fighter. It’s a nice feel to know I”m going toe to toe with age-old moves, with smoother more [...]

dregs of society.
2008-03-24 06:23:42
I was on the bus today coming home from the City. Now, there’s a local where I live who I happened to catch the bus with. This guy’s a known criminal and quite literally, a psychopath. What he is doing outside of our state’s fine correctional facilities is something most of us locals want to [...]

it’s been a while…
2008-03-24 04:01:14
Wow, I have sort of neglected this blog for quite a while eh? I was recently fiddling around with the startup and shutdown sounds of my PC while customizing its themes. Now usually I’m not one for eye candy; or for fiddling around with the appearance of Windows, I generally use the Windows classic theme, default [...]

taboola rahsta?
2008-03-28 06:11:23
Okay, so apart from retarded phoenetic spellings and mispronunciations aside; I’ve been playing this game. I recently took it on after a dear friend decided she’d give me a year’s subscription to it. Fantastic. But here’s the interesting thing, this game has managed to, for nearly a week, single-handedly wean me off my WoW addiction. [...]

This was a triumph! I’m making a note here… Huge Success!
2008-04-01 17:49:06
I’ve managed to update the blog. I’ve fucked up the sidebar on the right though… It’s going to be a painful time fixing all this up. But at least I haven’t lost everything and had the site completely die on me…
